Decided to visit with family in search of something new. Ordered steamed shrimp shumai, tuna tarte, shrimp&veg tempura udon, and the Kusshi Roll boat for 4 hungry individuals. Upon arrival, the staff could be confused for regular customers as there is no uniform or staff t-shirts which was not a great first impression. Our server was also too quiet and mumbled her words so we could barely hear but I understand that it's hard to hire people anywhere so I wasn't too bothered. The appetizers were nothing special and just ok, tartare presentation was cute and simple. The udon was straight up inedible though, sooo salty and all the toppings that go in regular udon were not in there. The tempura that came with it was pretty good though, but I wouldn't recc any of their kitchen items based on how the udon tasted. The roll boat came out at a reasonable time and the fish quality was very good. The sushi made up for the nasty udon and mid appetizers so that's a plus. I would give 3 stars solely based on the sushi but most likely would not make the trip here again due to all the other factors: service, kitchen items, inconveniences in parking. read more

Had the pleasure of eating here twice during our weeklong stay in Washington. Always on the lookout for a really fantastic Japanese restaurant in my travels and Kusshi Sushi Pentagon did not disappoint. Starting from when you walk in the door, this place is top-notch. The ambience is incredible with colorful and lively murals on the wall. A well appointed bar and nice open area encourages interaction between the customer and the staff. There is a fantastic patio that is great for a social vibe. From a food standpoint you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu we enjoyed some of the freshest sushi, amazing ramen and if you are a fan of Japanese pickles a must try here. My wife has a couple of severe food, allergies, and they went above and beyond to make sure, everything is safe. I wish I could give 0 stars. my experience was so poor that I've not been able to stop thinking about it. I'm new to the DMV area and live in Pentagon City so when friends came into town, we thought we would try Kusshi on Pentagon Row. I won't even get into how long it took for someone to come to our table or how the pickled vegetables were inedible. Our table ordered 4 beers. When the waitress came over to deliver our drinks, one of the beers fell from her tray, breaking plates on the table and getting beer in our laps. In trying to help correct the situation, a ripple effect began for the waitress, more glasses and beers continued to spill and shatter on the table and the floor. Now, this isn't the poor, concerning experience. Stuff like this happens, no big deal. What was horrible enough for me to email about was how the situation was handled. As the waitress and myself got up to help clean up, the bartender ran over and yelled "don't touch the fucking glass". Two to three people who worked there came over to help clean up, but NO ONE acknowledged us or asked if everything/everyone was ok. There were shards of glass on our table and in our seats, my friend was sitting there with her finger cut and bleeding. NOT A SINGLE PERSON, checked on her, asked how they could assist. They didn't try to reseat us even though glass was everywhere. We finally asked if we could be reseated and if they would bring us new beers because we weren't sure if there was glass in our beer. After we moved tables, the waitress came back with new beers but crying, clearly upset. We spent several minutes telling her it was ok, that these things happen. We never saw her again after that, the manager never came over to check on anything or apologize. They never came back to take our order so we finally asked for the check cause we had enough. FYI - we were charged full price for that experience. My concerns aren't over the wait, the food, or the accident itself. I'm concerned it's a toxic and poor work environment because of the way that young waitress was talked to. If they will talk to her like that in front of customers, I would hate to know how she was treated behind closed doors. And the customer experience was the worst I've seen or experienced. For not a single person to check on us or apologize or offer assistance when my friend was clearly bleeding, is inexcusable. read more

Food is horrible here. When we went inside it was almost completely empty, (around 12) and now I know why. We ordered the spicy miso ramen, Tonkotsu ramen, 12pc sushi sampler, spicy salmon roll, Shishito pepper, and pork gyoza. First, the sushi was dry and looked artificial. When you pick it up the fish doesn't even move and it's hard. Shake it as hard as you can, that thing is not moving. There were strange things loaded on the fish, and the ginger was strangely sweet and dry. To the touch, the fish was oily and felt like a persons skin. It tasted strange, and for the price I would go to an Hmart and get better quality fish. spicy miso ramens taste was weak, no flavor, and the noodles were definitely instant. The chashu was chewy, hard, and tasted burnt. Bamboo shoots tasted bitter, and left a bad taste. Tonkotsu ramen wasn't even like Tonkotsu soup. It was more like a Kmart instant ramen, or Shiyo ramen. Shishito pepper was okay, but it wasn't as juicy as I would prefer. Pork gyoza had no juice inside, and was also dry. I don't know what is up with this restaurant, are they scared of moisture? The gyoza did not taste Japanese, it tasted like a knock off. Trader Joe's has better gyoza. The spicy salmon roll was great, and the sauce was amazing. The server was polite, but the decoration could use work especially with how dark and how bright some areas of this restaurant are. read more

I felt like I was eating fish that had sat at room temperature for a bit too long. We each tried each roll, and both decided we didn't want to eat any more. I've been to Kusshi Sushi twice in the last month. Once for the ramen, which was just what I needed when the high outside was in the 30s! The portion was enough to fulfill my boyfriend's appetite and both of the flavors we tried were delicious. We went back a few weeks later to try some of the sushi. Everything tasted very fresh and made for a great late lunch. The restaurant is larger than it looks from the outside with some high top tables in the bar and some booths and regular tables in the back. The wings were good for the first 2 bites with the sauce but then I slowly realized they weren't that good once I really focused on the taste. Just deep fried and that was pretty much it. The ramen was so bland. The noodles had no taste and the broth was so watered down. Really was not a fan of any of the food but I ate it because I was hungry and didn't want to waste food. My friends and I ate here for the first time tonight and it was really great! Part of the group ordered the smaller boat and the rest of us got an assortment of maki and speciality rolls.
