Came across this place after my sister and I went on a Barnes and Noble sister date. I didn't realize there was sushi close by and I believe this is a pretty new spot based on reviews. It's a small quiet well lit restaurant. All the waiters were attentive and helpful. My sister and I took a few things off our sushi when ordering and they were accommodating. To the point that they made sure to ask if any of the take outs were okay and was willing to fix if it wasn't. Everything was delicious! My salmon sashimi was so buttery I wish I got more! Definitely will be coming here again and trying other rolls. They had a great selection. My husband and I were looking for a quick lunch spot on our way to Santa Barbara, and this restaurant was open until 10 pm on the fourth of July. Pictures looked good and the prices seemed right, so we made a quick stop off the 101. The restaurant was full with small and large groups but we were able to be seated right away and the service was prompt. Lunch chirashi was only 18.99 and 3 sushi 4 sashimi and 1 roll combo was 17.95. I heard positive feedback about this new place. I'm always up to try. I ordered the lunch special of 6 pieces of sushi and a roll, $16.95. It came with miso soup (very nice) and a watery drenched salad. I sent that back. All the sushi was good except one piece of tuna that was mostly grisly. Tried the chilled oysters, spicy tuna on crispy rice and ramen. We also had mackerel, yellow tail, and salmon nigiri. All of the fish was extremely high quality and very fresh. It rivals all of the sushi spots I frequent in LA. The crispy rice was probably the best I've had. It was very crispy yet light and airy. All of the other places I've had it at are usually pretty dense. Not a big fan of the ramen, it was a little too sweet for my taste but I won't fault them for that. Special thank you for changing the content on the big screens to family friendly cooking show reels. Previously I was unable to bring our daughter in as the huge screens were playing extremely disturbing cartoons that had violence and offensive content. Now the atmosphere is so enjoyable. Checked out this new sushi place and liked it enough to come back the next week with my parents. We tried a couple rolls, sashimi, and the udon -- everything was really good. The sashimi in particular was amazing; very fresh and great cuts of meat. Service was friendly and the manager was great. The indoor space is pretty small, so if you want to sit inside it's probably a good idea to call ahead. They have outdoor seating too. Overall, great sushi spot. I'll definitely be back. read more

Sushi was amazing, everything was so fresh and delicious. Chaos roll was my favorite (the roll in the bowl like long plate) the no rice really helped it. Staff were so nice and attentive and it wasn't just one single server helping, everyone was helping and it wasn't chaotic. My mom and I will usually share 3 or 4 rolls together but all 6 sounded amazing and we're okay with leftovers but it was so delicious we didn't have any to take home. We have wanted to try this place for some time now and finally had the opportunity to do so. I have read some of the reviews about the service and how they sometimes take a long time to service you or acknowledge you. Regardless we wanted to try it, I think every restaurant has good and bad reviews. We got seated rather quickly (2 of us), but there after it all went down hill. We were sitting there for a good 10 min and nothing. Another 2 some sat next to us shortly after, within 1 min they got their drink request and shortly after they get their drinks. Us, nothing, not even an acknowledgment from the waitress as she is literally right next to us as we are still holding the menu. Never turned around to bother with us and check in. We waited another 10 min and finally decided to walk out and still no acknowledgment from staff. I didn't want to look too much into the bad reviews but they are on here for a reason. I would not recommend this place at all, service is terrible. Don't waste your time. Good thing other restaurants are within the area. read more

My son and I came here for lunch on a Saturday. The place was a bit full so we sat at the counter. The staff were so friendly and checked in on us often. My son loved his pork ramen. The broth was delicious and i liked that there were two egg halves in it. I got the lunch special with two rolls. Salad and miso soup were pretty standard but good. Kuu Sushi is the newest sushi restaurant to this side of Ventura and they are off to a great start! Located in the sprouts shopping mall it's located on the side by Sharkys. It's a busy center but I can always find parking. Kuu sushi is tucked off to the side which is nice because it's quieter and gives a little more privacy. This restaurant inside is super clean and impeccably styled. I love the look of this place, very modern and very cool. Back splash's of blue and purple neon lights - this spot is giving trendy yet casual. There are plenty of tables but I opted for siting at the bar which was a nice touch as it was more intimate and quiet. The ambiance and decor here is 5/5. Staff and service were 5 stars! The staff were all so nice and very attentive. I felt immediately welcomed and was taken care of like a VIP. I was also impressed that I was able to get in and out in under 30 minutes. Great for a quick lunch break. It wasn't super busy when I went but still a good six tables. Makes me feel confident that the service would always be this good. Everyone was so nice though which is ultimately what sticks out. It's also the little things. Anytime I finished a plate or had little paper wrappers from my chopsticks they would clear it right away. So attentive and considerate. Even when I was leaving the establishment one of the servers opened the door for me to say goodbye and to show me out. Like WOW. I don't even get service like this at 5 star steakhouses. Very very impressed, service was 5/5. Now on to the sushi. The sushi was super fresh and very delicious. I love sushi that's cold and fresh tasting, definitely they are serving quality over quantity here. That would be my only small critique is some of the rolls were a little on the small side. If you look at the picture of my scallop roll, there was definitely a lot of cucumber compared to the ratio of scallop but the reason I would still rate the food five stars here is it all had wonderful flavor, texture, and really was just super fresh and presented nicely. I ordered a simple cut scallop roll And it was refreshing. My favorite bite was their OMG roll which is a riceless roll. Salmon was melt in your mouth. Also started with a miso soup which was perfect, nice and warm, comforting. For soup and two rolls my bill was just under $30 which doesn't seem bad for sushi, especially like I said as the quality was there. They had a super big menu here so I would be interested in some of their lunch specials and Bento boxes. But they did have over three pages of sushi rolls so I would definitely come back and try some other bites because at least I know the food will be really good. I'm really glad that Ventura has a cute new sushi spot with exceptional service and fresh fish being served. I will definitely be back and I hope some friends will check it out with me next time because this is a business deserving of your patronage. read more

Went here for the first time to check out the new sushi spot and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food tasted and impressed by the service I got. I got the crispy rice with spicy tuna on top (which I always get because to me how a restaurant makes it says a lot about the place) and the 2 rice-less rolls which were all delicious by the way. Our server was Mai, she was always attentive and didn't forget to keep checking up on us even though we were sitting outside in the patio area. Cozy little nook tucked into the corner of the shopping center, across from Makenna. Delicious rolls which were pretty large and worth the prices. Tried the Jessica and the Big Mama, both of which were a pleasant surprise. Winding down the weekend. We hit this for a early dinner on Sunday night about 530. By 545 every table was full at 6m People were waiting for tables. That should tell you something. We ordered agedashi tofu for a hot appetizer, tempura udon noodle soup, and several nigiri sush The soup came out first and quickly, it was delicious. Thick odon noodles in a light,savory chicken broth and the tempura was on the side, coating was fluffy, not greasy and a little sweet. I really enjoyed it. The appetizer arrived after the entree. It was probably the best agedashi I have had since Hanada closed. The sushi came last. It was super fresh, super clean. They did not have Uni. We forgave them because it's Sunday. Staff is very friendly and business was brisk. All ages, all color, families with kids and the tables turned pretty quickly. We were in and out in about 40 minutes, fat and happy! They have a huge menu!!! Many fusion sushi rolls that were tempting. Really good looking boxes for dinner, the adjacent table order a dinner combo that was served quickly and looked beautiful. We will have to come back because I need to try more of the food. Or maybe just more of those noodles. read more

Nice welcomed addition to Ventura! This place has one of the best sushi out there. We were able to speak to (I believe) the manager. She was very sweet and told us that the owner always uses premium fresh fish for the sashimi and sushi. Plenty of parking but be prepared to wait a little for a table during the rush, it is a smaller place with limited seating but worth the wait. If you are a sashimi lover, highly highly recommend the sashimi combo C which is a great deal. All the fish was fresh, and the uni that came with the set was nice and creamy and sweet. The salmon was melt in your mouth buttery and thick slices. Pork katsu was not dry at all, very juicy and flavorful, loved that it came with two choices of sauces. The Japanese pancake is a must try if you like savory appetizers. Very flavorful, sweet but not too filling. Since this place is new I will not ding them on the servers (yet). Our server was great, checked in on us, he admitted he was new and wasn't that familiar with the menu yet after I had to correct him when we were missing some things. I read the other reviews on this place, while visiting Ventura. Surprise to learn that there is a Happy Hour that starts at 8pm daily. Cannot go wrong. It was the best sushi and best value. Salmon, spicy tuna, yellowtail all excellent. The handroll is best I ever had with more fish than rice, and a large seaweed wrap. Tempura, teriyaki chicken bowl, miso soup, all excellent. Highly recommend everything. Happy Hour is a must visit in Ventura. read more
