[Note: I am posting this Yelp because my wife is not a "Yelper".] This is a fantastic group of professionals. My wife cracked her tooth while eating some nachos today. She did not want to go back to her previous dentist who she called the "butcher". My dentist who I found in Carson City had retired so I was looking for a dentist too. So we searched Yelp and found Reno Dental Associates. Fortunately, Dr. Nelly Hashem had a cancellation and we went in the same day. We were very happy to see how professional, CLEAN, and happy her offices were. The emphasis here is Clean and Happy. Check in was very pleasant and surprisingly quick. I watched the entire treatment especially since I need some dental work done in the near future. Regina, the dental technician was extremely friendly and obviously knew what she was doing. Dr. Nelly examined my wife and talked pleasantries to both of us. She followed her husband, a cardiologist, to Reno and has fallen in love with the community. My wife has "white coat hypertension" (she is unnerved at going to a dentist). Regina had very nice Spa music going in the background and never left the treatment area. This was the most relaxed I have seen my wife of 30 years be in a dental office. Dr. Nelly took the time to explain her practice, education, and her background. Regina was a 2nd generation Reno native. Both were very clear, friendly, and kind explaining every step involved in capping my wife's tooth. As small business owners, we are cash payers. Bottom line, the practice explained each item to be billed and offered a 10% discount to cash payers. They gave us the worst case scenario BEFORE any treatment began and we were surprised at how competitive their pricing was. Given this impromptu visit, we have decided to both have Dr. Nelly and Regina be our dental professionals going forward. FYI. I am 60 and my wife is 55. I am a retired medical researcher (UC Davis) and my wife is a managing editor of a medical journal (also a UC Davis alum). We moved to Reno from CA eight years ago when our youngest daughter went to UNR for her undergraduate degree. We elected to stay in Midtown when she went to Columbia University (New York) for her graduate degree. We love Reno and plan to fully retire here. We both hate going to the dentist but absolutely love Reno Dental Associates / Dr. Nelly Hashem & Regina specifically. This place is extremely overpriced and they often suggest unnecessary treatments or services. For an example. A simple filling turns into a crown and root canal. A dentist who is overeager can cause a patient to need a root canal by drilling out too much tooth and getting close to the nerve. They will say they have to remove all the decay but it's really a judgement call and their calls are solely based on money not the patients health. Go elsewhere read more

My mother and myself have been going to this dentist for an extremely long time. We have never had any problems until now. The front staff can be very abrasive and unfeeling. My mother and I took my daughter to see the dentist before Christmas. My daughter is a victim of crime and as such asks me to stay with her. She might be 21 however again she is anxious around people. My daughter also has celiac disease and has had 3 to 5 CT scans and multiple mouth CT's. She doesn't like X-rays as she has had too many. So before Christmas we go in and my daughter said they took multiple x- rays because the technician could not get the x-ray correct. At that time they found 2 cavities and fixed them. The dentist kept pushing a "plan" for my daughter. My daughter and I work part time and we do not have dental insurance. And I didn't understand what a "plan" was. My mother was paying with the care credit which I pay off with every check I receive from work. They set up a full mouth x-ray and cleaning for after January. We couldn't afford that. So my mother canceled it. My daughter went back in on Tuesday because of sore teeth. They took two X-rays and we waited. The dentist N came into the room, sat down, and tells my daughter who is 21 that she can't afford to get her teeth fixed by him so she needs to go to the welfare dentist " hawk clinic" and if she doesn't her teeth will decay and she will loose all of her teeth in two weeks. Hu??? He looks at me, her mother, and tells me because of my fear of dental I RUINED my daughter's teeth. Are you for real? My daughter has celiac and throws up a lot. So first of all he never asked about her medical and never asked about why her teeth might be bad. Just I am a worthless mother and it is my fault. The rooms are entirely open in the back and EVERYONE heard him insult me and humiliate me. My ex-husband went to prison for abuse of my children. I have struggled to provide for them. He KNOWS this and I told him and he said Ya ya I don't care. He kept repeating we can't afford a plan. So his plan is full mouth x-rays and then teeth cleaning which we would have done but he wouldn't do anything. So he tells us that a root canal might or might not work and it will cost 3thousand or more. He decided to pull my daughter's tooth then fill 1 tooth not even the one that needed it. Before he did anything he looked at me and tells me to get the F out. I asked my daughter if she was going to be ok and he said she will or you both can f'ing leave. He said this is my office and if you don't like it f'ing leave. I was so humiliated. My daughter said he bad mouthed me the entire time, defamation of character badly, told my daughter she is an adult get over whatever she is doing, pay for herself, and make decisions. My child is a victim of violence and sir you just revictimized her! Why? Is your ego boosted now? How can you call yourself a dentist and berate people especially poor people? You have no idea what people go through. This dentist shattered my daughter's tooth in her mouth and caused so much dental trauma. My daughter is still having issues. After what this dentist did I felt like less of a person. I felt so degraded and bad about myself. My baby girl is so terrified she will loose her teeth too. She cried for days. Yesterday my daughter called the office to get her x-rays only to be told I sent a nasty untruthful letter (I did not) and they could no longer see my daughter. So they took x-rays without the intent of doing the work! Me, my mother, nor my daughter sent any letter. I have no idea what they are talking about. They told my daughter the dentist is concerned about her dental health but can no longer see her. Does that make sense to you? This entire ordeal centers on this dentists hate for me and I do not know why. One thing I will say is I did ask if my daughter could be developing trigeminal neuralgia and he told me to not put that sht off on my daughter. He doesn't even have a clue that it is hereditary and my grandmother, mom, and I suffer from it. This dentist office, staff, and dentist is highly incompetent, rude, unwilling to help, expensive, and extremely unprofessional. We paid in full each visit and yet we are too poor to go there according to the dentist. He owns the office and will throw you out mid treatment. We did absolutely nothing! I said nothing even as he called me welfare trash! I went to the waiting room and cried yet said nothing. Mr N is this the reputation you want or the way you want to run your office? We are not scum, we are people and you had no right calling us anything but humans. If you go here be aware! If you can't afford a "plan" he will throw you out! read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Folgner's office, which was previously Dr. Clement's office, for decades now. They are very nice people and contentious. I never feel like they are trying to upsell me on unneeded services. I also never feel rushed. I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I had to find a new dentist in Reno! I came in thinking I had a cavity and turned out I needed a root canal. My dentist did a great job taking care of me and making sure my procedure was as comfortable as it could be. I got a temporary cap right away and went in for the permanent one a few weeks later. Do not go to this dentist! I had a horrible experience here and was very upset with the people that work there. First off, when I went in I didn't know how much dentist charged for a check up so I asked because I don't have a lot of money. Nobody could give me an answer. Thy acted like they had no idea what money is or the costs of their devices are. Secondly, they didn't do a great job. I've had better whitening of my teeth at the college from my friends. Third, these people were very confused about dealing with insurance. It felt like it was their first time or something. I asked before I went in for my second visit to see how much it would cost and the lady there that deals with payments told me that FOR SURE I wouldn't have to pay until my third visit. I said great! 2 days later I receive a bill for $500. I called and all they could tell me was "Oops, let me look into it and I'll call you back." I never got a phone call and ended up moving. I finally got a phone call from someone there and they told me that my bill was going to collections if I didn't pay at that moment. They bullied me into paying the bill which they told me I wouldn't have to pay. I would never go to this place again and recommend you do the same. I've been going to Reno Dental Associates for two years now and I see Dr. McElroy. All the front office staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. My experience with the hygienists have all been great! Dr. McElroy always provides amazing service and goes above and beyond to make sure all your questions are answered to the fullest as well as any concerns you may have. This is my third dentist in Reno as I couldn't find anyone I liked. Now I won't go anywhere else! read more

Reno dental associates and Dr. N. is great. I really had a pleasant experience while I was there. I has to switch from my dentist in CA to a new dentist here and it is always nerve wracking trying to find new good people to go to. I was greeted in their clean office and taken back to get x rays. Their machine is really old, the metal pieces are large, but it was okay. Then I was taken back to get my teeth cleaned and the dentist came in and checked my teeth. It was a fast and easy visit. Left with new toothbrush, paste, and some flossers. Would recommend and they are very easy to work with around your schedules. They book out pretty far, but they have many people working and will get you in! Great, kind staff on the phone. read more

While her father (Monty) was EXCELLENT, he has retired and left his practice to his daughter. She is a NON CARING, RUDE dentist who when I complained about the fact that her hygienist (who cleaned my teeth) accidentally knocked out an old filling (not her fault, it was old and just got loose) Tamra was "just to busy" to bother to put in a temporary filling so the nerve would not be exposed. She had me wait with a hole in my tooth TWENTY THREE DAYS! Meanwhile the exposed hole got more sensitive, now I need a root Canal! Horrible non caring service! She has cost me a $350 copay for a root canal I would have never needed, plus a crown which will be even more! Now the kicker.....She sends ME a letter of resignation as my dentist! (don't worry Tamra, I would never go back to you anyway!) ;-( read more

I've been seeing Dr. Monte Neugebauer of Reno Dental Associates for about nine years now. He was referred to me by a coworker after I had a bad experience at another dentist in town. Dr. Monte is wonderful, and unfortunately, retiring (sort of). He only works Mondays and Tuesdays now, but he is still there for the time being. All of his patients can still see him if you go on Mondays or Tuesdays, or they've moved us over to Dr. Tamra Neugebauer for visits during the other days of the week. Dr. Monte has done a few fillings for me and a root canal over the years. I can't say it's never been painless (let's face it, a shot in your gum is going to hurt regardless), but he does try to take the sting out of it. He's very fast with his work but you don't feel that he's ever rushing either so you feel confident that everything is getting done right. His assistants are great too, very friendly and helpful. The hygienist are okay, good or great. I've had quite a few over the years, and some I absolutely love, while others I could do without. I think it comes down to personal preference really and what you expect from a cleaning or x-rays. They take many different kinds of insurance too - I think I've changed insurance four times in nine years, and they've taken all of them so far. Dr. Cody McElroy and the staff at Reno Dental Associates are amazing! I had a dental emergency while staying at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno on a late Friday afternoon (fractured a tooth). Dr. McElroy and the office stayed open past their normal business hours to take care of me! Everyone from the terrific receptionist to the caring dental assistant, to Dr. McElroy himself were terrific. Some of the dentists in this office are probably OK, but watch out for Cody McElroy and his receptionist Wendy L. I did all the legwork and brought them the preauth insurance forms. We paid $54 for a consultation where Dr. McElroy was supposed to complete the preauth to our insurance company, to find out our cost of my wife's upper denture replacement. Well Dr. McElroy wants to sell all kinds of services, including dental work for the lower teeth, which we did not want. To make things worse, after we pre-paid the $54 for the agreed upon results, he refused to fill out the form for our insurance company. We complained to the office manager and it fell on deaf ears. I would probably stay away from this whole office, since our experience with the manager went nowhere. P.S. Don't have faith in RateABiz either, since their reviews can be removed if the company objects. (Company possibly has to pay some money?) This was the BEST dental experience that I have experienced in my 50+ years alive. Dr. McElroy is such a kind and compassionate medical provider and I will not go to another dental provider as long as I live in Reno, Nevada. I have been with Reno Dental Associates for a few years now and while they were good at first, ever since Neugebauer Sr. retired they have gone down hill. My only advice is pay close attention to your billing statements and keep your insurance on speed dial. read more

Extremely disappointed! I saw Dr. Monte N. for years, and when I came back for a regular cleaning Tamara N. suddenly started seeing me without any explanation or communication as to why Monte was no longer my dentist!? Tamara has been by far the worst dentist I've ever been to in my life! No bedside manner, unprofessional, and inexperienced. She gave me 6 shots of lidocaine with epinephrine to numb my mouth and my heart was racing! Tamara said, "I have never given anyone this many shots".Then why would she do it to me?! On a tooth she thought only needed a filling but really needed a root canal. I went to a new dentist for a second opinion and he said that there were years of decay in my mouth that she should have taken care of years ago and never did! I wanted to cry, I felt like she took advantage of me and did the bare minimum. Just awful! read more

This is a review not on Dr. McElroy being a good dentist or not. It's about the kind of a person he seems to be. That is one of greed!!! I have been going to Reno dental for 15 years.I Started with Dr. Crouse who was very good & I think honest . He retired and McElroy can in. The first thing out of his mouth was to talk about a expensive procedure he could do. I said no. Earlier this year I had a deep cleaning done. Two weeks ago I had my first regular cleaning. I received my bill last week and instead of the normal fee of $100.00 I am being charged $149.00. A 50% increase. I called and ask why? He told me it was because I had a deep cleaning and from now on I had to have a periodontal cleaning! Making it sound like it was something different then I have been having for the last 15 years! Total bullshit !! I had a deep cleaning with Dr. Crouse and he never said, "now we have to do a different kind of cleaning". I have been having my teeth cleaned the same way, 3 to 4 times a year for 15 years and I think I would know if the cleaning was different ! This last cleaning took less time then normal. I don't know if he thinks people are stupid. I'm not! I can only wonder what other kind of things he is trying pull.This is one reason why medical in this country is soon screw up.Being Greedy & Dishonest is not helping ! So-- for $49.00 - He loses my business. But I guess he will make it up on other people ! read more

Dr. Folgner is by far one of the nicest and most profession dentists I have ever encountered in the Reno Area. He is very understanding and compassionate. I am very pleased with this dental office and excellent staff. I am amazed how kind and accommodating they have been.
