I went to Kyma, with three friends, on Sunday. I am sorry I do not remember the waiter's name, but he was fantastic. We enjoyed the food, but we also enjoyed the pace that the appetizers and main courses came out. We order two appetizers, the Eggplant and Zucchini Chips, thinly sliced, crunchy, freshly fried, very nice. When we were done with the zucchini, the next appetizer came out. That was the, Grilled Octopus, with Onions and Capers. Grill and seasoned just right, the Octopus melted in your mouth, some of the best octopus, that our table had enjoyed. Then four main courses came out, Dover Sole, Moussaka, Bronzini, And the Seafood Linguine. Let's start with the Dover Sole, a Large size piece of Dover, incredibly cooked, flaky, perfectly seasoned, can't wait to come back, to try again. Then there was the Moussaka, a wonderful stack of Wagyu Beef, Eggplant, Potatoes, and Sauce, incredible taste, perfectly seasoned. Each portion is individually baked, I have to give the Moussaka a WOW. Now the Bronzini, also a nice portion, flaked just right, season perfectly, incredible taste. Then there was the Seafood Linguine, the portion was okay, but the Seafood was perfectly cooked, seasoned just right, Clams, Muscles, Scallops, and Shrimps, very enjoyable, taste and season just right, perfectly cooked. The Decor, takes you back to a restaurant in the Mediterranean. There is a beautiful fish display. Everything was perfect. The Valet Parking was very good. I don't think I've been to a better restaurant in Long Island. I'm the type of person who loves seafood and fresh food, and that was definitely available here! First things first: the atmosphere. It looks like you're transported into Greece in this restaurant. There's comfy yet upscale seating, white brick walls with a blue-ish hue that looks so cool and romantic. Our server, I believe his name was Christof, was amazing. He was very kind, explained all of the dishes, and the specials. Absolutely adored our waiter. We were served hummus with bread and grilled pita, which was delicious. We ordered the special grilled eggplant as our appetizer. That appetizer was probably one of the largest appetizer I've ever had. We were given two heft portions of roasted eggplant topped with tomatoes and onions and it was absolutely delicious! The eggplant was cooked perfectly, and wasn't mushy. Loved it! We ordered the pompano fish ($41) with rice and the special cauliflower with yogurt sauce. Man. That fish was huge and SO GOOD! It's a great size especially if you wanted to split it. The rice was also cooked well. I absolutely loveeeeed the cauliflower dish. I hope they decide to put it on their actual menu because I would order that all the time. It was roasted deliciously and it's topped with pistachios which were perfect and so unique! The experience was awful from before we even sat down. Hostesses at the front were arrogant and snobbish and literally threatened to cancel an older couples table because the rest of their party had gotten lost trying to find the place. The poor old woman almost passed out from the stress they put on her. Then we sat down, table of 9, and the stop watch started. You cannot order without being totally ready with appetizers and entrees, they will not just start with apps. Food was just okay. As we approached the 2 hour mark you could absolutely feel the staff breathing down your neck. They started removing plates/ drinks even if you were still eating. They literally started removing the placemats as we sat there. They began pulling the tables apart before we even left the area. Our waiter immediately poured us water, and introduced himself. Throughout the night he was super helpful in making recommendations, refilling our drinks, bringing us bread, and anything else we needed! I believe his name was Chris but I can't remember clearly! For food we started with 2 plates of Kyma chips (fried zucchini and tzatziki sauce), and grilled octopus. Man my favorite part was the appetizers!! The kyma chips were crispy, fresh and light! Super delicious paired with the sauce! The grilled octopus was also delicious and perfectly cooked. For my meal, I ordered the lamb-chops with fries. It was a generous portion and was seasoned to perfection. I'm usually picky with lamb options, but the meat was SOO juicy and tender that I was so glad among all my friend that I ordered it! There prices are on the higher end, but in my opinion you get what you pay for here! The atmosphere, the food, the drinks and all! The Kyma chips taste great and are not overly oily. I got the lamb chops cooked medium and it was cooked perfectly. They were really juicy and seasoned well. The side of fries also was delicious. My parents both ordered fish and from my past experience all of their fish dishes are excellent as well. Overall Kyma is an excellent place to go for special occasions. I felt the need to write this review. My last experience with Kyma Roslyn was very disappointing. We had a reservation set for dinner on Christmas Eve for a party of eight. Upon arrival for our reservation, the hostess was about to seat us and told us to follow her outside. Right away we got upset. When the reservation was originally made, we were never told we would be sitting outside. If that was the case, we wouldn't have accepted in the first place. The poor communication upon this restaurant shows the lack of professionalism. Even after seeing how upset the whole party got, they didn't even TRY accommodate us. I also need to state while sitting for dinner, my mother in law and fiancé were getting the draft the whole night due to being seated in a tent. It's reason like this why restaurants needs to understand why customers, especially large parties wouldn't be thrilled to be seated outside- mainly on Christmas Eve. I always enjoyed my visits to Kyma and their food. I've been to both locations- Manhattan and Roslyn's many times but this last time it's just left a bitter taste in my mouth. I finally made it here - been meaning to come for years. All in all it was a great meal but maybe didn't live up to the expectations I had in my head, especially for the price. The octopus was excellent as was the feta dip. Might be one of the better octopus dishes I've had. I also enjoyed the swordfish entree. The lamb was overpriced and nothing special. I expected the baklava ice cream to be better but it was really just honey flavored ice cream. I'm glad I went and the place is gorgeous but I think there's better Greek spots. read more

My parents, brother, and I went here to celebrate my mom's 50th birthday. All of us decided this is the type of restaurant you go to not to have a culinary experience, but "to see and be seen," where, according to my father, "women wear shoes that are bigger than they are." Yes, it's filled with the fancyschmancy residents of Long Island's Gold Coast, where once it hits 8pm, the men walk in wearing blazers with their wife who has had just one procedure too many done on her face, done up in Prada shoes and a Chanel bag. Personally, I don't care for this type of fluff so let's cut to the chase. APPETIZERS: The Bread Basket- Though this is technically not an appetizer it deserves a shoutout- the two types of bread in there are FANTASTIC and they don't skimp on the olive oil. The bean paste it's served with I could've gone without. Kyma Chips- thinly sliced zucchini and eggplant, deep fried, with tzatziki sauce and FRIED CHEESE. Good. I think the slices are a little too thin so you taste more of the "fried" and less of the vegetable. Sauce was good. BUT THE CHEESE. Lord have mercy. CHEESE. Did I mention CHEESE? Octopus- Good, not spectacular, but good. I think the whole dish would've tasted better cold. ENTREES: Seafood Linguini- My brother ordered this, but he's always the least adventurous one when it comes to ordering food. It was okay, I didn't like the sauce but he ate the whole thing. Tsipoura- My parents split this with a side of potatoes. They thought it was too plain and bland. I thought it tasted fresh and not much had to be done with it to make it taste good. Then again, I'd never order a dish like this for myself so it's difficult for me to comment on what I would've expected otherwise. The side of potatoes was "meh," for lack of a better term. Moussaka- I am pleased to announce I ordered the best dish out of everyone. It. Was. Delicious. It had the perfect balance of ground meat and eggplant, with a hint of creaminess. YES. Order it. DESSERT: Galaktoboureko- I'd give this a 6.7/10. It was a custard with pistachios on top and a shredded phyllo dough crust. I enjoyed it but I felt like something was missing. I kept thinking "when is it going to be sweet enough?" Cheesecake- Superb. Not too sweet, and a little tart from the fruit topping. It's the chef's secret recipe. DRINKS: White Sangria: Upon first sip I thought it was delicious. Second sip, not so much. It had so much ice in it which automatically started melting so the whole drink was watered down within minutes. OTHER: The service at Kyma is definitely good. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable. However, the place gets really busy and LOUD, so it was hard to hear him half the time and we kept asking him to repeat himself. We were also seated near the bar, where overgrown 40+ year old "bros" were SCREAMING at the TV's because of the football game. If you're going to come to a place like this, leave the "bro" at home and come here like a man, please. There's mandatory valet parking which you don't pay for but obviously have to tip, but that's pretty standard at these Long Island joints. My final comment and biggest annoyance of the night was that earlier this week I tried making a reservation here using Opentable, which said there was no availability until 10pm, which was obviously way too late for us. My mom called and they said they'd accommodate us at 9:30. In the meantime, I made a reservation for a nearby restaurant at 7pm. On the way to our 7pm reservation, we pulled into Kyma's parking lot because my mom wanted to see if they'd seat us and LO AND BEHOLD, we were seated immediately. We were ordering dessert by the time both tables next to us were filled, so it goes to show their reservation system is complete BS. read more

This restaurant is a friggin hidden jewel.. I'm telling you ..I really enjoyed the time here. The valet parking lot is good and upon my entrance I say hands down. The ambeiance is comfortable and romantic with just the right music. The music makes this place come alive. For my meal I had grilled calimari. I've had it before but not grilled. I didn't know what to expect but when it arrived I couldn't eat it fast enough and I wanted to order one to go but I held back. I had white fish and potatoes. Really satisfied with the waiter's recommendation. It was mouth watering and tasty. My wife the seafood linguine. I love Kyma. I prefer the NYC location because of the different drink menus. But the Roslyn location is just as good. The grilled octopus was made just right, little crispy, perfect. Kyma is definitely a scene. I went on a random Tuesday night and it was packed. All the ladies were dressed to the nines. It's rare that a restaurant on Long Island has a more upscale unofficial dress code so i came "under-dressed" in a summer dress and flat sandals. You live, you learn. We were served an assortment of breads and hummus. The breads were extremely greasy, but this was a blessing in disguise as I was able to save prime belly space for the real food :) It was a while before our server came to take our drink orders. I HAD to have the Elit Martini ( a martini made with Stoli Elit Vodka and a truffle blue cheese olives). It was expensive at $24, but worth it considering the pour. Elit is one of my favorite vodkas. It is super smooth. The truffle blue cheese olives were unreal. It was a long time before our food orders were taken also. My friend and I split the Kyma Chips (Paper-thin zucchini & eggplant chips with tzatziki sauce) and the Octopus (Sushi grade mediterranean grilled octopus, onions, capers). The chips were amazing. They were surrounded by little pieces of fried cheese that were just to die for. The octopus was cooked and seasoned perfectly. As my entree, I had the whole bronzini which was simple but just right. It comes with your choice of sides. I had the lemon potatoes but they were very, very salty so I didn't have too much of it. We ended our meal with a huge slice of baklava. I wasn't a fan. It was all nights and barely any phyllo dough. It tasted like a hardened form of cinnamon oatmeal. It was overly sweet, even for me. Upon arrival My boyfriend and I were seated at a table on the terrace in the front of the restaurant. This table was perfect as it provided us with some intimacy.
