The menu on Yelp differs from the menu from the website. This made it difficult when I first tried to place a phone order as the sushi tray I wanted to order was not familiar to the staff on the phone. She couldn't understand that the menu I was looking at was from Yelp and started to make recommendations at price points that differed substantially from what was on Yelp. I hung up to review the menu from their website to place an order for a large sushi tray. The on line order process was easy and I was quoted a order ready time of 20 to 45. Based on the tray I ordered I estimated 35 minutes to prepare but was surprised that when I arrived just over 20 minutes the order was sitting on their on line order table by the front door. The sushi was just standard. The mango roll lacked sufficient mango (more a sauce) and the tuna roll was not fresh (dark in color). It was fine but will probably not order from here again. read more

They also tried to charge us for the miso soup that we ordered but never received. We arrived 2 hours before closing, but it seemed like they were trying to rush us out of there. The sushi is fresh, good temperature and the specialty rolls are always great. They also have a few hot dishes like teriyaki and hibachi. The wait staff is not very good for a few reasons. Fantastic food and service at Kyoto. Two adults and a baby for an early dinner on a Saturday night. We had a few appetizers including tuna pizza which was exceptional. One of our favorites in Somerville/Hunterdon county. My family has been here at least two dozen times and we've never had a bad experience. The sushi is fresh, the house rolls are creative and yummy. Before covid they used to run a promotion on Wednesday nights. I miss that, but costs are increasing so I understand. Kyoto might just be my new go to sushi spot in the Hunterdon area! Amazing food + BYO + affordable prices = a winner in my book. It is a cute and clean place with simplistic decor. It's small and intimate, making it a nice place to go for a casual date night or dinner with a few friends. It is probably not the best place to choose if you are with a large group. There is a decent amount of seating but it did seem to get pretty full by 7pm (I went on a Friday night). Prices are very affordable. Appetizers range from $3-12 and speciality sushi rolls average around $13. They also have coupons and a 20% off discount code you can use for takeout! If I'm being honest, I have to admit that service was.... mildly irritating to say the least. Our server was attentive but borderline too attentive. When we asked for more time to look over the menu, she must have come back at least 3 times within a 7 minute time span. I definitely felt rushed at times. The food tasted good and was made fresh. All of the food was plated really nicely. For appetizers, we ordered tuna wraps, salmon taco, and kani salad. The tuna wraps were little difficult to eat since it falls apart so easily but the flavor was amazing. I was in awe of the presentation... how the heck do they make it look so pretty?! The kani salad was very good and a bit spicy. The salmon tacos are served on Tostitos scoops which was an interesting combo to say the least. The inside filling was good but I wasn't sure how I felt about it being paired with tortilla chips. They definitely had a very spicy after taste. I'd highly recommend the first two appetizers. However, I wasn't 100% sold on the salmon tacos. I'd say order them and let yourself be the judge of that. We ordered four different sushi rolls. Most of them were good. For dessert, we got the peanut butter mochi ice cream. It was ok but nothing special. I've definitely had better mochi elsewhere. read more
