We LOVE Kyoto! We've been here a few times since we moved here and have always had a fantastic experience. The sushi is great (it compares to the sushi I'm used to living on the coast of California) and they have lots of options for those that don't eat sushi. My boyfriend always gets the hibachi steak which is delicious, and they have a decent little kids menu. The restaurant is extremely clean and the staff is very efficient and friendly. This most recent time we went we just had to leave a review, thanks to the amazing service we received from Steven. He was very friendly, prompt, and professional, and he noticed immediately upon our steak being brought to the table that it was made wrong and had a new plate made for us right away. We will definitely be back, and recommend this as a great place to go for a special occasion or a family meal. read more

This is one of my favorite places anywhere for Japanese food. I've gone dozens of times and never had a meal that wasn't wonderful. The service is good, even if the waitstaff aren't super friendly, they are competent and professional. It's hard for me to try different things on the menu because once I love a dish, I stick with it. Occasionally I try a different thing, and it's ALWAYS great. Not cheap but I'd say typical Japanese restaurant pricing. I'm glad to have this restaurant here in Bastrop. read more

We went there for the lunch this week. The miso soup tasted like from yesterday. The seaweed were so hard that they just put in without the soup boil. The soup is not even hard at all. So I have to mentioned to one of people there. He said " it needs to soak for a while"! I was shack! With the price they charged totally not match the quality of food they served on the table. The sushi is also terrible too. The person seems doesn't know how to make Rolls correct! Fantastic sushi, especially for rural Bastrop with a wide selection of dishes. I always order WAY too much food when I eat here because the portions are huge. This is far from the cheapest place in town, but a great spot if you like Japanese food and are willing to splurge a bit. Sushi is always alittle pricy they always charge extra fees when getting take out never eaten in so maybe not when u fine in. And it's never ready when it says. Other than that it's good sushi and the orange chicken is amazing and always order it spicy. They have a bento box of it and so much food it's shareable depending on who it is. Kyoto is the genuine Japanese restaurant I didn't dare to dream for in Bastrop, Texas. Honestly, I like this place even better than my go-to spots in Austin. The environment was clean, cozy, and very attractive. Small, but that makes the feel even better, in my opinion. The staff are quick, understanding, and very friendly--the owner is always nearby with a smile. I've been there twice now, and everything I tried was homemade and delicious. The gyoza (potstickers) was good, the onion soup was lick-the-bowl awesome, the fried rice was as epic as any hibachi house, and the sesame chicken was crisp and juicy and perfect. The only thing that was kinda average, in my opinion, was the egg drop soup. But my favorite part was the "Bastrop" sushi roll: - Shrimp tempura (fried shrimp) - Snow crab - Avocado - Cream cheese - Whole thing fried in sweet batter - Covered in subtle, delicious white cheese They also offer hibachi, many other sushi rolls (Texas roll, Austin roll, cowboy roll), and huge menu. The menu is very clear about what fish is cooked or uncooked, and about what's spicy. They also offered sashimi and classic Chinese/"Asian" favorites, like General Tso's. Five full, shiny stars. We go to Kyoto in Bastrop often and always have a pleasant experience. The food is great and their lunch deals are a great deal!

We love this place. Literally the only sushi place in Bastrop but definitely really great food all around. We have been a few times and I haven't been disappointed yet. They are consistently good and always really friendly, even when we come in 30 minutes before closing they were welcoming and didn't rush us to leave. They did a great job handling covid. Wipes and sanitizer available at entrance inside. Everything looked clean and the host was wearing a mask plus there was a huge curtain separating us. I work in Bastrop so just discovered they had a good sushi place. I haven't been able to eat sushi since the restaurants closed so I was so thankful for this take-out. I recently moved to La Grange and was craving sushi for my birthday, so we drove 30 minutes to Bastrop to find it. We were pleasantly surprised! Everything tasted delicious and fresh. The Coco Roll is probably my favorite sushi roll of all time. I can't remember specifically which other rolls we ordered but they were all fantastic. They even sang me a song and gave me a free banana tempura dessert for my birthday. The tempura cheesecake was also divine. Everyone was attentive and friendly. Restaurant was clean. Everything was fine, and for Bastrop just having a sushi restaurant is a great addition. The sushi is affordable and there is a good selection. The reason for the 2 star review is for the discrepancy in certain menu items that are labeled "snow crab" which I learned the hard way is imitation crab. When I pointed out to the manager that it was clearly not snow crab, he snarkly replied that no sushi restaurant uses "real crab". I also explained that it was misleading as they did have other items on the menu labeled "crab stick". I came to Bastrop to visit and was totally surprised that this small town has a good sushi place. My husband called in and ordered Cowboy roll, Austin rolls and tempura roll (we actually wanted tempura appertizer but there was a miscommunication.) All of the rolls were much better than we expected. The food really filled us up. They also packed and displayed the food neatly. The price was reasonable. The ONLY reason this is four stars is because our group felt the service was lacking. We were a party of 6 and we were seated at a booth for four and a chair for the end. That obviously didn't work well and bringing an additional chair to the end of the table made it a very tight fit. Additionally, we found ourselves frustrated that it took a long time for someone to come get our order and drink refills were slow. BUT, these are easy fixes for the restaurant. It was also nice that on Friday at 5:00pm there was no wait. Ultimately, the dining experience was excellent. And I'm not talking about "it was good for Bastrop sushi" excellent, it was on par with any number of sushi restaurants I've been to in Austin, Dallas, DC, San Francisco, etc. Our table ordered the puff rangoons and some sort of stuffed jalapenos for appetizers. Both were fresh and delicious. Across our table, we ordered a couple of the Fuji Mountain Rolls, the 007 Roll, the Austin Roll, and a California Roll. The Fuji Rolls were excellent and the portions were huge. Our table was surprised to see that they are served in a ring with a flaming bowl in the middle for dramatic flair. The 007 Roll and Austin Roll were also both large rolls with excellent flavor. Everything tasted very fresh and the quality of ingredients was excellent. The only problem with the food was the kid's meal we ordered. It was $7 for chicken tenders and fries. The portion size was very small, but the issue was the "chicken strip." It was a very thin piece of grilled chicken (maybe a 1/2" x 1/2") that had been tempura fried so it looked much, much larger. It was disappointing for our child, but that's her own fault for not getting Asian food at an Asian restaurant. TLDR: Bastrop or not, this sushi restaurant is high quality and reasonably priced (our party had 5 people eating, 3 drinking alcohol and it was $86). read more

Food is good, sashimi always fresh. They never have uni or fatty tuna though. Tried numerous rolls over many visits and all have been good with nice presentation. Salmon Mango is a favorite as is crazy crunchy roll. The appetizer Shrimp-Tini, served in a martini glass, is yummy and the tuna tower is very good. I wish they would nix the Chinese food and focus on Japanese. Maybe they are trying to pad the business and appeal to all. As for the Sushi "Bar", it must be a joke. The bar is very high and chairs very low. Your chin is almost sitting on the bar! We learned and now get a laugh when people come in and attempt to sit at the bar, we place bets on how long before they ask to be moved to a tradition table! Service is very sporadic and rarely friendly. The owner has greeted us table-side a couple of time and seems very nice, limited English. I hope he continues to serve up the quality food we have enjoyed, fix the sushi bar so it can be used and communicate to his staff some customer relations hints! read more

Place has always had good food but is a bit pricey. I have a background in making sushi, so I can recognize good quality but it also means I know how high their margins are. Was happy to see they are still doing take out with all this covid crap, but am tired of this being the only option. I call once a week to see if dining room is open, but it's not. Finally I asked if they are ever going to open the dining room and was told "we don't know". I usually spend $150 per visit with them, but have stopped as I am wanting the dining room experience for that price tag. Will start going into Austin since this is one of the few places in town who refuse to completely open. read more
