The couple of times my boyfriend and I came here, we had terrible experiences service wise. The food wasn't terrible and the prices were reasonable. However, every time we came here the service was HORRIFIC!!! The servers would often slam our food on the table and walk away without telling us what they brought over (especially if you are doing all you can eat). Often times, they wouldn't even write down our orders and then forget about certain things until we had to remind them about 2 or 3 times. One time, we waited about 30 minutes for our chicken wings, which was 3 pieces of tiny wings!!! They were the size of an average pinky finger. Honestly, service could be way better if the servers would actually try to interact with their customers. Other than that, the sushi isn't all that bad for an all you can eat menu. And the atmosphere is pretty nice. I would go back, but only if I get a better server next time. read more

Came to get some sushi during lunch and it was 2:20 and they said they closed at 2:30 and then refused to serve me. I've went to kyoto multiple times and none of the servers have been personable for one acception. I work in the service industry and closing early isnt an option then when you get caught in the action, won't even serve a one-top. Still love the sushi, staff needs to step it up read more

The all you can eat sushi is great, a huge variety at a terrific price and it's delicious! The only downside to this place is the horrendous service! They are very slow, rude and never get the orders correct. This is the only place in my life that I haven't tipped the servers. read more

Been here multiple times for all you can eat lunch. Roughly $16 not a bad choice considering the options (smaller menu that dinner, but still good). Never had a problem getting a table in a timely manner even with big groups. Food tastes fresh and is served in good quantities. Big tip, don't over order near the end, you might face surcharge for excess left overs. read more

Went here with friends and one of us got all you can eat sushi. I wanted to try a piece of hers so I was eating it and our waiter came over and told me I could not eat her sushi so I didn't have any more. Even after I told her I would not do it again, her along with all of the sushi makers starred at my friends and I and we felt VERY uncomfortable. This is probably the worst restaurant I've eaten at in the twin cities since moving here. The service was slow, unfriendly, and disinterested at best. Had to ask for soy sauce and wasabi, which seems like it should be standard at a sushi restaurant. Also did not receive all items ordered, but was still charged for them. Price aside, I will not return. Quality is not there and taste is not either. Had the all you can eat lunch. Received imitation scallop and crab, bad tempura batter (way too thick), they slice the shrimp in half to save and so many other shortcuts and skimps that it was not worth the $15. Their sushi rice was too sticky and thick. Even their hot tea was undrinkable. This is bad fast food Japanese food. The only thing they didn't mess up was the edamame. Our crunchy roll had hardly any tempura shrimp, it was all batter. Tables were dirty and service was very poor. Best sushi/Japanese food in town is in North Oaks at Suishin. The place is beautiful, service great and food is best value and taste in town. No comparison with Osaka or even Sakura. I learned my lesson, to frequent my favorite place - it's worth the trip! read more

You have to approach all-you-can-eat sushi with a lot of caution, but here I must say I was pleasantly surprised. It isn't great sushi, but great for me holds it to a very high standard - think New York, Tokyo. Was I happy? I was, for the level of all you can eat nothing was skipped. Really big restaurant, love the all you can eat, although i wish the fish was colder.

First I never write a review. But after this horrible experience, I felt that I had to. If I could give this place a zero, I would. First the service was horrible. My server acted like she didn't want to be there. When we received our food. The chicken was under cooked, and the soup was bland with no flavor. The server never returned to check on us, she didn't even run out her food. Thankfully the food runner was helpful in getting us another silverware, the ones we had were dirty. Unfortunately he was the only positive thing about our experience. When the server finally did return and asked if we needed boxes for the food we didn't eat. Yes after one bite, we stopped eating. We told her that the food was not good. Only to be surprised her to smile and say "I know". What!? Either she didn't know what I said or she was so used to having people complain. I don't know how this place is open or have any decent reviews. Either way. Beware! Don't waste your money or time here, or you'll regret it like we did. read more

I love this place for AYCE sushi. The food is all very good, albeit maybe not the most innovative or refined. The AYCE is a solid deal at $25/person for dinner as virtually nothing is off limits. Their deluxe rolls, all the rice dishes, desserts, etc, are all fair game. The service, while not necessarily top notch (maybe a bit of a language barrier?), is attentive enough to order as you go. They're not the type of place to drag their feet when you pay for AYCE. As for the food, there isn't a roll I don't like. However their #9 is AMAZING and I always order at least two of them when I go. I also think it's important to note that this is the best Kyoto IMO. I haven't been to them all, but I've been to Savage and Maple Grove as well and they don't stack up. The service is worse and they don't make the sushi as well. If you're looking for a formal, nice night out, go downtown to somewhere like Seven. If you want really good sushi (and a variety of other food) and a lot of it for a reasonable amount of money, go here. read more

Three of us went yesterday and what a disappointment. We've been before - and had a good experience. It depends on your waitstaff, I suppose. Yesterday, we did not get 4 items in our order at all... three items we did not order were put on our table. When I said we didn't order them, the waitress argued that we did... then said what we wanted wasn't on the all-you-can-eat menu anyways. (They were...) She obviously didn't know the names of the items... or care. Questioning whether I will go back... even the deal of a price isn't worth the hassle. If I wanted a surprise lunch that wasn't what I ordered, I'd go to a restaurant with "chef's choice" as an option. read more

After reading all of the negative reviews we were hesitant to go here. BUT we had an amazing time! I wish I could remember our waiter's name to give him credit! He was AWESOME! Very patient. Explained everything on the menu and then explained it again when it arrived. He was very attentive to us. Coming back to the table once we were ready for some more! The food was very good! You can sample things you maybe would not normally try because you are unsure if you like it.....BUT this way you can try it all!! We had 4 people and it worked out GREAT! We would each take turns ordering and then share it all when it came out! GREAT EXPERIENCE!!! I would go back for sure! read more

Service is slow. We have to wait 15 minutes after we finished our soup and salad for hot dishes that we ordered at the same time. When they came my friend got sprayed sauces all over her cloth and hair as the waiter put down the dishes on our table. To make matter worse all 4 of the hot dishes are lukewarm or cold. We have to send the grill beef back because it was very cold. It was a very unpleasant dining experience. I would not recommend this place. read more

My son and I recently visited the Eagan location for hibachi and were told there was no cook to serve us so we couldn't sit at the hibachi tables. Our sushi was nasty, the food was cold, the server left before taking my sons order. I asked if the shrimp sauce was spicy 2x our server said no but in fact it was and I only found out after pouring it all over my rice and could stand the spice to eat it. When I addressed my issues with our server he seemed confused and as if he didn't understand what the issue was. He didn't come back to refill our drinks or ask if we enjoyed the food in fact each time we needed him we had to wave him down which we weird seeing that there was only 3 other tables filled in the entire place. I wrote a nasty note on he back of my bill which was not addressed by the server but instead told us to have a good night! Another man approached us about a refund but it now appears as though I was still charged and nothing was ever credited. I wanted to walk out in the middle of our meal because of the food and service but didn't want to show and/or teach my son any bad habits! Pricey lesson for me to pay! I will not recommend this place to anyone and after reading a number of reviews I see why the place was dead! I write a blog and do intend to highlight the service provided at your establishment as your lack of follow through when a customer is unhappy which makes me feel as though my money was not appreciated! read more

I was at Kyoto yesterday with a few of my friends and we go to Kyoto quite often. Most of the time we are extremely satisfied with the food and service but what happened yesterday was completely unacceptable. First off, I would like to say that the food was great as always but it was the service we received that makes us never want to go back to Kyoto in Eagan, MN. At first we were served promptly and quickly which was great. However, after about 20-30 minutes the waiter asked if we would like our bill together or separate. As I answered I clearly stated that we would like to keep on ordering because we weren't full and the waiter gave us a nasty look took our order and then came back with our checks. We paid but we still wanted to order more food but then the server would purposely avoid our table to not serve us. I even saw our waiter sneaking from a corner to see if my buddies and I were still at our table and then once she noticed we were still there she walked away. We sat there for around 20 additional minutes waiting for the waiter to come so she could take our order but she never did. I understand that if the place was busy it would be acceptable however it wasn't at all and the employees were sitting around talking to each other and some on their phones. My party of 6 all left still hungry and unsatisfied with the service we received. read more

Just AWFUL! Went there a couple of weeks ago with some friends who like their all you can eat sushi. Neither my husband nor I are sushi fans, but we love tepenaki, so thought we'd give it a try...bad choice. First the service is terrible, it takes several requests just to get a drink refilled. I ordered the tepenaki shrimp, and my husband ordered the lobster, which was a process in and of itself since no one working there, not even the chef, was sure if it was one lobster tail or two. Just a word of caution...THEY PUT TERIYAKI SAUCE ON EVERYTHING...they mix it in the rice, all over the veggies, and also all over the over cooked shrimp appetizer. Once our dinner was being prepared, they put the lobster on the grill first, and it was the last thing at the table to be served, and yes, you guessed it, my husband had to stop the chef from dousing it with teriyaki sauce. You couldn't even cut it, it was so tough. My shrimp were like little teriyaki pucks, just unreal. My husband requested garlic butter, which is a staple at places like Benihana, but again neither the server nor the chef could figure out what we were asking for. We were looking for anything to try to salvage the food since the "shrimp sauce" is so sweet that it tastes like jam. My husband immediately complained to the server who just looked at him and walked away. He had to get up and locate the manager himself, who then offered to take $10 off of our bill for this inedible swill. He told the manager that was unacceptable as he was unable to eat the food, and $10 wasn't even the cost of one lobster tail. The manager agreed to take half of the price of his meal off and then proceeded to tell my husband said that they have a tendency to over cook the food because they are so fearful of under cooking it, but that is "usually with the chicken." How about getting some training for your chefs so that they will know when food is cooked properly? Every trick the chef tried, he failed at...miserably. All around a terrible experience. Will never be back, and have told anyone looking for all you can eat sushi to pay the extra $4 and go to Benihana. read more

We ate here few times and some of the waitresses we noticed were pretty unfriendly. However besides a customer service standpoint today I happened to run into a situation that raises tons of question marks about health practices and honesty. We ordered some edamame to start with then sashimi, sushi and some rolls. We went with the "all you can eat" menu and after telling the waitress what we wanted she came back with the edamame. As we were eating it I noticed that one of the pods were completely opened and empty just as though someone before had consumed it and discarded the pods after eating the beans inside. At the time I didn't put two and two together. Once we received the sashimi as we started eating it about a couple of minutes later the waitress came back and told us that they made a mistake and they gave us the wrong dish. She saw that we ate some of it and we told her that we already started eating it but she rudely kind of imposed herself and said that did not matter and she wanted our dish back. I could not believe what was going on before my very eyes. Even the customers next to out table noticed and commented that this is not safe and very questionable. I was kind of amused but still could not understand what would happen next. We saw her going back with our almost half dish of sashimi into the kitchen and took me no time to understand that some bad practice was being executed in this place. THEY POSSIBLY RECYCLE LEFTOVERS FOR THE NEXT CUSTOMER! Anyway you are terribly stupid to say the least that you let your customers realize this.
