I have to say I'm very disappointed in this place today. I've been going here for awhile now and today I went to stop by after work to get a spray tan before the weekend. When I arrived at 7pm it was closed. It is supposed to be open until 9pm. Now I'm going to have to go on my lunch hour tomorrow to a place I've never been. Also, I won't have time to shower before going out tomorrow so in going to stink like a spray tan. It's just very frustrating when you don't have a lot of time and there are no other tanning salons in walking distance. read more

Love, love, love this place. I haven't been here in a couple years, however, I wanted to build a base before going on vacation this upcoming weekend. When I walked in the door and explained it to the man working, he pulled up my former record and saw that I had 49 points from 2 years ago that had expired. After buying another 50 points (The minimum used to be 100-you can now go as low as 50), he automatically restated the 49 points that had previously expired TWO YEARS AGO. Great customer service!! The rooms and beds have always been clean-I've never had a problem here, I just took a break from tanning which is why it had been so long. Definitely recommend! read more

I used to go to their place on Clark street and I was very happy. Since I recently moved, I tried this location...near the Bryn Mawr el. The place has beautiful hardwood floors, plenty of tanning rooms, and is spotlessly clean. As with the other location, the staff is friendly and informative without being pushy. You rarely have to wait for a bed here so I always just walk in. Prices are pretty reasonable too...I tend to tan twice a week and I found the "points" plan works the best for me. There are two big bathrooms in back which are also spotlessly clean. They're quite well lit so you can see how your tan is progressing! By my second visit, the clerk greeted me by name, hit a couple of keys on the computer, asked me how many minutes I wanted, and in 30 seconds from walking in the front door...I was walking into my little tanning room. I saw a review that had my blood boiling all day today!! I have been a customer of A Better Tan since it opened. I LOVE this place and converted immediately as a former client of LA Tan. The place is incredible. I love their beds and I am always greeted by name. The customer service is awesome and I have gotten some amazing recommendations on tanning lotions. I hate to see a good business panned by an obviously delusional customer. None of the criticism is warranted. They are very discreet with credit card information and I have never felt concerned since I am billed monthly over the last 7 years. Truth be told I would never consider tanning anywhere else. I have been coming to A Better Tan since they first opened (2004/2005?) and have since not even considered going anywhere else. The owners are sweethearts,the tanning packages are flexible and accommodating, they have a great stock of lotions, and most importantly, the rooms and beds are always clean. I have also used Colleen for multiple air brush tanning sessions and she is great! They are a true locally owned, neighborhood business, and I Iove that. Just got done with my first tanning visit and have to say I'm impressed! After reading reviews, I printed out some coupons that were available on their website. A free tan and 50% off a points package among others! Devin (sp), the girl at the counter, was very helpful and knowledgeable about the different beds and packages available. 8 weeks till I walk in that white dress, and my skin is practically matching the fabric. I stopped by the LA Tan near work and bought 20 tans, redeemable at any LA Tan. Came to this LA Tan later that evening, because it is closest to my home. When I arrived there was no line. The employee updated my contact info, which I thought was strange because they updated it earlier that day. Then he asked me for the entire balance for all 20 tans. I showed him the charge on my bank app, and he still told me he could not do anything. He looked up the phone number to the LA Tan I purchased from, and had me call. By this time, a line of 3 people had formed behind me. The other location removed the balance, I jumped back in line, and I was able to tan. Clearly this was an unnecessary hassle, and it would have been nice if the employee had handled it instead of giving the problem back to me, but c'est la vie. I had not tanned since 2007, so I was not really sure where to start. I chose 10 minutes in a stand up level 2. The room was clean and spacious enough to be comfortable. Took me a minute to figure out why the doors wouldn't stay closed--the fan had turned off. Pressed the green button and the bulbs and fan switched on, which allowed the doors to suction closed. The bulbs were all functional with consistent visual brightness between them. My personal method was to cover the bathing suit areas, and put SPF 4 oil on my body and SPF 50 on my face before I left my house--no wrinkles and no chemicals please (expensive accelerators are nonsense, imo). 4 hours later and I do not have a trace of burn on my freckly but tannable skin, and I can see the melanin deepening slightly. I think the tanning bed did its job well, and I will return to try it for the full 15 minutes. read more

What a place. I love it. This past year I went six months without a tan. My skin looked like a marshmellow and I love this place because it makes my skin look like a grapefruit. I went in last month, and they service you right away. I was in a hurry because I had to still get my hair and nails done. They let me go right away, and even in front of some other people I think. The tanning room is very psychedelic, and they very slowly get you into the tanning bed. I requested moroccan oil, and they put it mostly on my feet. They were so nice they didn't even notice I was farting the whole time. I stayed under for like ten hours that day and it was the best! read more

I really love this place. The price is right. The owner and staff are friendly. The location is convenient (steps from the Bryn Mawr Redline) and the beds/rooms are kept clean. The level 1 beds are nothing to write home about and are pretty basic but all other levels are great. The upgrade prices aren't bad and they have an early bird special for free upgrades. I have been to nicer tanning salons, but they were pretentious and 4 times the price. I'll stick with my friends at A Better Tan! read more

Meh. It was okay. The times that I have gone, both of the guys at the desk seem to either be new or just not trained well. Twice I have gotten completely undressed and lotioned-up ready to get into the bed...and it doesn't turn on. Which then requires me to get completely re-dressed, go up front, tell them to please set the time, and do it all over again. There are definitely better tanning establishments around. read more

It's true- I've tanned on and off around different salons in Chicago and this is a good one. The staff is nice and knowledgable, package prices are reasonable and they'll even keep your eyewear for you! Genius! They should just remove the outdated CD players, and I wish they would remove the panel of clear plexiglass you lay on and clean UNDER that every once in a while... Gross. I've never been to a tanning salon before. Or used a tanning booth or anything. So I called them up after seeing the reviews, I spoke to Colleen. She was super sweet and said come on down. I went from unsure to feeling extremely comfortable after she explained everything to me. She told me about the different levels, explained all of the little intricacies, and made me feel incredibly comfortable. The rooms are clean and private, and the beds are nice. The service as well as the price was just an amazing combo, but there's something I feel that's a little unique I'd like to add on. A few months back, I had gone to the Doc for a physical. Blood tests, you name it. One of my only issues was I was severely Vitamin D deficient. Quality levels of Vitamin D, mind you I'm unsure of what the numbers represent, are in the forties to fifties and higher. I was numbered at about seventeen. Compared to California, I'm nowhere near outside significantly whatsoever. I had been taking prescription strength Vitamin D on top of over the counter. Sometimes, I will go days forgetting to take my pills. After my first session the other day which was less than ten minutes, I felt incredibly energetic in the extent it was noticed by everyone else before myself. This was my second session today and it's still carrying over. I'm not concerned about getting a dark tan, becoming a bronze god, or looking good for the beach. I just wanted to try it out and how I felt as a result of the additional Vitamin D was more than enough to win me over on top of the excellent staff. Add on that she remembered how my last name started off when people who've heard it a hundred times not only mispronounce it, but misspell it, I will surely be returning again and again. read more

I tan whenever I need to go somewhere I will be in the sun a lot. Usually for work. The Manager and staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met. They are always helpful and polite. A Better Tan has given been giving me mixed emotions beyond belief. When I first bought my package I was rushed and confused about what I was actually buying, and every time I tan I do not feel welcome or comfortable. I have felt on multiple occasions that I was an I inconvenience to the workers, and for the most part they are short and cold. The older man with the blonde hair is the RUDEST! There's no such thing as $10 spray tan here on Mondays (when he is there), he will charge you $15 as well as take his sweet time finding you in the system or looking like he is doing something on the computer while you wait. I've been a devoted "Better Tanner" for almost a year. I started going before my wedding to avoid being an amorphous blob of white, and have continued during the sun's off-seasons because of the fantastic product and reliable service. They have super-affordable packages. I personally use points and do half-sessions in the Level 3 beds. Don't know what that means? Neither did I. All of the staff members are really good at explaining what you need and helping you get the best tan. Having an issue with uneven tone or discoloration? They'll hook you up with whatever you need. And I was as white as a sheet before I started -- not ALL skin tones can tan, but in my experience, it's worth a try! read more

I frequent this location as it is very convenient for me as I go to school nearby and it has what I need, but after my experience today I won't be going back. I have had several encounters with a middle aged/older man that have rubbed me the wrong way. He never greets just asks for your name but even with these short encounters I have with him nearly every time he manages to give me attitude or be short with me. Today I walked in and asked to spray and having a membership I typically don't have to pay when I come in and without explaining anything or even looking at me he said I owed $66. I asked him why and told him I have a membership and he said it didn't go through this month so I told him I didn't have the money with me and I'd be back. I walked right outside the store and got my account situated and debated if I wanted to renew my membership or just pay for a one time session. I walked back in soon after and decided to pay the $66 to renew it and he asked me if I wanted to use the card on file which I agreed to and then he made a comment about it not working the first time I walked in when he tried but this time it went through. I went and sprayed but decided to talk to him afterwards as I wasn't ok with him taking it upon himself to charge my card the first time as I hadn't given him permission to do so. I approached him calmly and asked him if I was allowed to cancel my membership at any time and then if I chose to do so, pay a one time spray fee. He told me this wasn't allowed as I had to pay for the whole month and that I now owed them even though I haven't sprayed since the last pay period. I told him regardless it didn't seem right for him to decide to charge my card without saying anything to me which he denied doing after he had already admitted to me he did and I had clarified with him thats what he meant. He gave me attitude throughout the whole ordeal and when I asked him if there was someone else I could talk to as he obviously couldn't answer questions without losing his temper he refused and claimed to be answering my questions. I asked if he was the manager (which he claimed to be) because every other employee I have encountered has been respectful to me but as soon as I encounter him I'm treated like its some kind of power trip. I could have cared less about the $60 as I had already chose to pay it but how he went about communicating with me was ridiculous and I am bothered he would be so petty as to not inform me he's going to charge me when I have been consistently giving the company their membership fee for months now which he can see on the computer. Had he or someone else explained the situation to me since the beginning with patience about why I was being charged I wouldn't have had any issue. Him being a manager speaks to the service of this branch as a whole. I will be contacting corporate and hope LA tan will be following through as he is a face of their company and I'd hope they would have higher standards. read more

My favorite tanning salon in the Chicago area! The staff is so nice and super accommodating. They even let you upgrade for free if you come in from 9-12 in the morning.
