I been going to La Tan on Bryn Mawr for years never had a problem before. With everything going on with coronavirus I am shocked the girls working there are not wearing face masks! I went on 2 different days different girls working both no face masks on. On the first day when I asked the girl where her face mask was. It's the law for all employees and customers in salons. She just laughed at me like its a joke! People are dying it is not a joke. In addition she had a friend there socializing the friend had a face mask in her hand but also was not wearing it. In addition no one should be in waiting areas because of social distancing. I was about to cancel my membership just by her rudeness and not caring. But its not worth the argument with the employee that does care about her customers in the first place I would of just wasted my breath and time. On the second day the girl was shocked and just didn't know about wearing face masks at work. I am shocked her employer did not tell her! It is required by the government! It's a Class A misdemeanor in Illinois is punishable by a fine between $75 and $2500 for not wearing masks in any salons. Its on all government websites and plastered on all the news how is this a shock to them. The fine goes to the establishment for any employees or customers not wearing masks. I noticed all customers had them on. Hopefully the employees will give the respect of wearing face masks soon as the customers are obeying the rule! Or La Tan will be losing a customer! I've had generally good experiences here over the couple of years that I've been going here. I no longer live or work nearby, but I still make a trip over to tan once every week or so. Today when I went in, I was told that there would be a 10-15 minute wait for one of the beds that I normally use. No problem. I had time to kill. The person working then told me that she could get me into a better bed in less time if I wanted to use the credit that I had on my account. Sure. Well, the credit wasn't enough, so it cost another $4 and change. Okay... Then the person recommended the stand-up bed. I prefer to lay down, so I opted for the lay-down bed at that level. I was then told that a few bulbs were out in that bed, but it should only decrease the output a little bit. I was a little frustrated that I would have been fine with waiting, but ended up paying a higher price for a bed with a few bulbs out. I got into the bed and switched it on. I counted that there were 14 bulbs out. That's almost half of the bulbs in the bed. Maybe it wouldn't make THAT much of a difference, I thought. Well, I actually got cold while I was laying in there. I know these things happen, but if the associates are told to upsell to better beds when they're not working effectively, I should probably find a tanning salon closer to my neighborhood. read more

I see all the positive reviews and once upon a time back in July they were all that. You dont tan well in the beds now because bulbs are not replaced as often. I know their expensive but....................................... The help use to be friendly but now their to busy having their non paying friends hanging out. Yes you should tip when you are spray tanned but for the obnoxious friend to put a customer on the spot like that is wrong. They use to be attentive but now its like walking into a scene of mean girls. A better tan has seen better days with James. I felt this way but I thought it was just me but when my friends from another country which I referred them told me this I felt so ashamed. Maybe the owners should pay more attention to his store before we all go to LA tan which is at Broadway / Catalpa . I think it'd be pretty hard to complain about this place. The prices for the point packages are competitive, but I'd come here even if they weren't. The outstanding customer service easily secures my loyalty to this salon over any of the chains. First off, if you've never been there before, you get a free tan right off the bat. After that you get a fantastic 1/2 price deal on a points package. By the time you have to spend any real money a few weeks down the road, you already feel like a friend of the staff. James is usually there when I go in, and he already knew my name from the SECOND time I went in there. Bottom line; This place is clean, comfortable, convenient, friendly, inexpensive... just all around pleasant. read more

There are tanning salons and then there are tanning salons. A Better Tan in Andersonville-Edgewater is exceptional because of the great service, friendly staff (James and David are personal favorites), clean shop and excellent prices. You can always get in and it is a convenient location for those of us who live north of Uptown. They have just added spray tanning to their offerings, but I remain a devotee of stand up or lie down bronzing - not only do I look better with a bit of a glow, but I feel better - and I always love going in. A Better Tan is exactly that... a better tan. better beds. and service with a smile. I have tanned everywhere... I have never see a cleaner salon... A Better Tan is like the Bentley of tanning salons. I go to the one on Bryn Mawr location....when you go, if your lucky, one of the Mother Daughter Dream team (sorry ladies cant remember your names) will be working. These to ladies are the best. I have to admit that I was surprised when the Clark street location closed down. Having said that, I am so happy to now be tanning at the Bryn Mawr location. The salon is very spacious, clean and the staff is a riot. I received a letter saying that the points I had left would transfer over and that I would also get a week of free tanning. I took that opportunity to try out the higher level beds. I am now addicted to bed 3!! I would highly recommend A Better Tan to anyone. read more

This is the best tanning salon that I've ever been to in my life! It is always spotless! I never had to wait for a bed. The staff is very knowledgable about the products. During COVID, you can only ask businesses to do their best. Both Tiffany and Nick have been incredibly helpful to someone (me) who has had very little experience with tanning before now and wants to learn. They've been marvellously informative! This location is easy, quick, clean, and makes me feel good after I visit. I love smelling like the beach! read more

This is a nice tanning salon. Usually I go to a different place, but I was in the area. The beds/stalls are very clean; you can tell they're wiped down daily. They have a variety of lotions you can buy - I never buy the lotions. Good service overall! read more
