My wife, daughter, a friend, and I returned to The Italiano for my birthday dinner after having such a wonderful experience on our first visit. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation, checked in immediately, and were seated within just a few minutes. Our server, Giovanni, was friendly from the start. He confirmed we were celebrating my birthday--which was also noted on the reservation--and got us settled in. We started with the bread, calamari, and drinks. Originally, we had planned to order the octopus, but we were disappointed to learn it had been removed from the menu. The calamari was good, though it didn't particularly stand out from other Italian restaurants. The bread was fine, and the drinks were excellent. I ordered an espresso martini, my wife had a peach Bellini, and our friend enjoyed a Crown and Coke. My daughter was disappointed there wasn't flavored iced tea, but a Shirley Temple quickly fixed that. My wife and I shared the Caesar salad to start. It was good, although we both agreed the bread ring was more of a novelty than something that actually enhanced the dish. For our entrées, my wife and daughter ordered the chicken parmigiana, served with gnocchi in vodka sauce and broccoli rabe. The gnocchi was delicious, but the broccoli rabe was unfortunately inedible. My friend and I ordered the lobster and lump crab ravioli in lobster bisque. Flavor-wise, it was enjoyable, but my pasta was noticeably undercooked and the dish wasn't very warm when it reached the table. Because of the lengthy wait, I chose not to send it back. Dessert was easily the highlight of the meal. The Ferrero mirror cake, cannoli sigaretis, and lemon meringue cheesecake were all excellent. Unfortunately, the overall experience never quite came together. Dinner stretched well beyond two hours, and dishes and sides arrived at different times throughout the evening. While none of those issues alone would have ruined the experience, they added up. The biggest disappointment, however, was the hospitality. Throughout the evening, we watched the table next to us celebrate a birthday. The manager stopped by to wish the guest a happy birthday and even insisted she receive a complimentary drink. Meanwhile, my birthday had been noted on the reservation, selected through OpenTable, and confirmed directly with our server when we sat down. Yet not once during the evening was it acknowledged again--not with a simple "Happy Birthday," not with a dessert, not with a drink. To be clear, this isn't about getting something for free. It's about consistency. If birthdays are something your restaurant chooses to celebrate, celebrate them consistently. If not, that's perfectly fine too. But watching another table receive that level of hospitality while ours was completely overlooked left us feeling forgotten. After spending nearly $400, I walked away feeling that the experience simply didn't justify the price. It's unfortunate because our first visit had us raving about The Italiano and eager to return. I saw this on Instagram and I had to try it because the prices looked so good especially in this economy! They have happy hour all day everyday in their bar/ lounge area which is great because most of the time happy hour is only on limited days/ hours at other restaurants! When I walked in the staff was very friendly and were quick to get me seated which was so nice with it being dinner time. I ordered a glass of wine and was quite impressed with it being their house wine + $8. I'm pretty sure it was Pinot Grigio. I was however, not impressed with the food. The portion sizes were small, and honestly, the food was flavorless. The only thing I liked on their happy hour menu was the vodka pasta, but that was even a 6/10. I personally think they need to add more spices, garlic, onion, salt, etc because most of the items just had a great texture but not a good flavor profile. The jumbo prawn and pickled veggies were delicious and the arancini ball was huge! The rigatoni was perfectly al dente and the sauce was simple but good. This dish was saucy, hearty and filling like you would expect a traditional Sunday sauce. The Italiano in Scottsdale had some highlights but it didn't quite live up to the rave reviews I'd heard. The decor is beautiful and very welcoming, setting a great first impression. The staff were friendly, but overall not very attentive. They were extremely busy, but the service was lacking throughout the meal. We started with the burrata & prosciutto and the prime beef carpaccio with artichoke. The beef carpaccio was actually delicious, but it was topped with a large amount of arugula that it felt more like a salad than carpaccio. The burrata and prosciutto was disappointing for me because of the olives and bell peppers. My friends did enjoy it though. The Caesar salad arrived next. It was heavy on the dressing but still tasty; but after the arugula-heavy carpaccio, it felt like I was eating a second salad. For entrées, we ordered the short rib lasagna, spicy rigatoni alla vodka with chicken, and capellini with shrimp. The short rib lasagna was the best dish. It was very flavorful. The rigatoni lacked flavor, and the chicken was very dry. The capellini was also quite dry, with noodles stuck together and difficult to separate. The shrimp were large, and the sauce itself was good, but there wasn't enough of it to coat the pasta and shrimp, making the dish very bland and dry. For dessert we ordered the Biscoff tiramisu, which was served in a very cute chocolate mug. The presentation was fun, and it was delicious. While the ambiance of the restaurant itself is lovely, the dining experience was diminished by some of the diners who were dressed VERY inappropriately. read more

It is too loud in there! To be honest, it felt like I was on a cruise ship. Some people refer to the decor as being Las Vegas like however I really felt like I was on the high seas. The back room that has the curtain between the main dining room and it is much quieter. There is a projected "mural" on the wall where the subjects in the mural eyes' open and close and their hair moves with the wind. It's slightly gaudy. The bread surface was delicious, warm, ciabatta, or Italian bread with olive oil and balsamic you can dispense yourself. The fried zucchini blossoms were quite tasty. A crispy tempura batter in the filling had mint and mozzarella, which gave it a little more flavor than just ricotta alone. The marinara sauce was a little thin and watery. The salads were the bomb those were very tasty. We had the Italiano salad with the roasted peppers. It was a very large salad, even shared by two people. We then shared the chicken and sausage scarpariello and the pasta with spicy njuda. The chicken breast pieces and sausage were very tasty. However, the sauté escarole was watery and flavorless. It was really bad. The pasta with spicy njuda was OK. It needed to be a little bit thinner in terms of the sauce and needed some more flavor although the crispy guanciale on top was a nice touch. Our friends ordered the chicken parmigiana and the lobster ravioli. Both of those were better than our dishes with the ravioli being the stand out dish of all. We really like The Sicilian Butcher, The Italian Daughter and Patricia's Pizza however, this experience and food didn't seem up to par for the Maggiore family at least not to me. We booked The Italiano for Christmas dinner since we associate good Italian cuisine with festivity and abundance, and plus our 5yo son loves pasta, especially penne. The Italiano is a large, gorgeous restaurant with classic Italian murals Creation of Adam and Birth of Venus. It has a bit of an elegant Vegas nightclub feel, along with a piano player. The menu was a $99 Christmas Buffet that's highly seafood centric with both cold and hot versions of shrimp and crab along with grilled salmon. There was an assortment of pastas with US East Coast Red Sauce (they call it gravy). We enjoyed pretty much everything we tried, although I did find the lamb at the carving station a bit on the dry and overcooked side. Our son cannot each much from the buffet, but the kitchen was nice enough to crank out hand-made rigatoni with butter and cheese for him. It was cooked al dente and he ate all of it. Its easy to overeat at buffets but here you must save room for their dessert station. The Tiramisu and pistachio cannoli were great but the true star is the Italian Flag, a bite-sized red-white-green pastry with a thin layer of chocolate. I also recommend getting a cocktail early to set the mood - their smooth, eggy and peachy Bellini was refreshing. Definitely want to come back to try their regular menu, which has more pasta options and even one with 7 types of seafood. $99 is a bit pricey for a buffet even by Vegas standards, but hey its Christmas and the restaurant was packed! read more

The menu is extensive, and the wine list is practically a novel -- offering everything from old-world classics to new-world favorites, plus a great cocktail selection. We came here for our anniversary and were really excited to try it out. That said, we were a little turned off by how pushy our server was with the upselling. We had already ordered cocktails and a bottle of wine, but he kept steering us toward the most expensive dishes and even tried to talk us out of the wine we wanted in favor of one that was $65 more. It definitely took away from the experience a bit. On the bright side, the food itself was very good! The stuffed pepper was flavorful, packed with sausage and cheese, and the red sauce was incredible -- clearly homemade. We also tried the chicken sorrentino and the aneletti pasta. The aneletti was our favorite: rich, hearty, and full of short rib flavor. The "off-menu" amaretto dessert was another highlight -- such a thoughtful touch for our anniversary. Even the warm, homemade bread at the start was excellent. Overall, we really enjoyed the red sauce, the pasta, and that special dessert. While the atmosphere is fun and the food solid, some of the dishes and the salesy service felt a bit too gimmicky for us to rush back. read more

When this restaurant first opened the quality of the food was excellent. In particular my family loved the Chicken Parm and we would order it in house and for takeout twice a month. The past month we have had the chicken parm 3 times and each time the quality of the chicken is absolutely terrible. Joey must have chosen a different purveyor and if not, then the purveyor has a new source. Either way, it's consistently awful and ironically just to see if this is a company wide issue, I ordered the chicken parm from the Sicilian Butcher a couple nights ago and it was even worse than the Italiano. Rubbery and inedible to the point where my daughters said don't ever order from this place again. The Caesar salad once was excellent as well and now it's a new dressing every time because the quality control is gone. Last time I saw Joey in one of his own restaurants was over a year ago. For a higher-end Italian restaurant, I expected a top-notch Caesar, but it was overly chopped, heavy, and topped with what tasted like cheap granular Parmesan.
