    $6.50 cheesesteak
    Adam X.

Best bang for buck cheesesteak in Philly. Drinks are priced very reasonable as well. Less than 5 mins from time of order vs 30mins at Angelo's/John's. And only $6.50 for a cheesesteak! Definitely coming back.

"Oh My God... I get it." - Frank Reynolds…read more My whole interpretation of what Michelin start rated places prior to eating here were that they were typically bougie / pretentious / overpriced establishments. I've dined at a place back home and although it tasted pretty good it fell into the latter of these statements above. Dalessandro's , though, changed my mind. Even the most humblest of a Philly Cheesesteak could be awarded such an award. There is nothing bougie/pretentious/overpriced about this establishment, it's staff and/or it's food. I sat there a couple bites in pondering what else I should try next time on my visit. I had the Philly Cheeseteak with sweet peppers with white American on a seeded roll. I had a philly cheese steak at a separate location prior to here, and although it was great, Dalessandros had the right balance of meat to bread to dollar ratio. I was full but content. Full but not bloated.

I love when the steak is diced up; the huge onions taste amazing with the cheese. Overall, this is a very solid cheesesteak. I enjoyed it. Now is it the best? No, I can't say it is. Not with Angelo's in town. Angelo's is by far my favorite cheesesteak. They make their own sesame rolls. The rib-eye steak is high quality. The cooper sharp cheese just marries it all together. Dalessandro's was king 10 years ago, but this is a tale as old as time, nothing lasts forever. 2016 I'd give them a 5 star, but 2026 has so much competition now it's crazy!!!!

Our experience here was especially delightful with an extended conversation with the owner Scott about the origin of Shay's, and his desire for this to be a safe place for everyone of all stripes to come and enjoy some Philadelphia hospitality and amazing food. It's clear this is a passion of his and he infuses that passion into every ounce of this place!

I've heard great things from other crew members about this place, so I had to check it out. The shop itself is small and clean, and the staff was extremely friendly--honestly, friendlier than most people I've encountered in New York! I decided to go with the original cheesesteak, which comes with ribeye steak, fried onions, and Cooper Sharp cheese. When I finally found the place, I walked right in and there wasn't really a line to order. I got my order in right away, but I noticed there were about 10 people waiting for their food. After ordering, I ended up waiting about 25 minutes for one sandwich. To me, that was a little excessive and would probably keep me from coming back. There are plenty of other cheesesteak spots in Philadelphia that make a sandwich just as good, but get you your food much faster. That said, my rating is based on the cheesesteak itself and not the wait time. If I were rating the entire experience, this would probably be closer to three stars. As for the sandwich itself--it was hot, the meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection, and it wasn't dry whatsoever. The Cooper Sharp cheese was melted throughout the sandwich, and there was just enough onion to complement the steak without overpowering it. The sandwich was a good size and had a generous amount of meat. You could really taste all of the individual elements, and they came together really well. Overall, it was a great cheesesteak. I understand that a freshly cooked sandwich takes time, but I was there around noon during the lunch rush, and I would expect a place like this to have sandwiches moving pretty quickly since everyone is there for lunch. Overall, it was a good experience. The staff was friendly, the cheesesteak was very good, and I'm glad I tried it. However, I probably wouldn't walk a mile to come back here again. Next time, I'll probably find a cheesesteak somewhere closer to the market and save myself the wait.

I believe we got the Ribeye Cheesesteak with onions and peppers, and it was hands down one of the best cheesesteaks I've ever had. Normally, I'm not a fan of seeded bread and I usually don't like peppers either, but somehow everything worked perfectly together. The creamy cooper American cheese, the soft yet crunchy bread and the thinly sliced ribeye made for such an incredible combination. And much to my surprise the peppers actually added a really nice touch and brought everything together. The portion was absolutely massive, but the flavor was so good that it was hard to stop eating it. Definitely a cheesesteak I'd happily have again!

Ordered one cheese steak and waffle fries w/ cheese to share and it was MORE than enough for two people. Very good cheese steak, especially the bread, but everything was very salty... Biggest complaint is telling you go up stairs or outside after ordering... no thanks! Also, I went to grab the food and had a weird interaction as they forgot my fries and then I went back to get them and they wanted my name, but they never asked for a name on the order... Then a guy just gave me the rest of my order... Weird. Good food, but strange interactions with staff made it a little unpleasent.

The seeded rolls are my favorite rolls around. A little crisp and sturdy to hold in the ludicrous amount of heft they're gonna carry. And the cheesesteak might also be my current fave. Everyone told me this is the best cheesesteak in Philly…read more I want to believe that is true once upon a time. We certainly must give John's Roast Pork their flowers for being such a staple in the community for a very long time. But... and this is a respectful but--times have changed. New cheesesteaks have risen with artisan sesame laden bread made-in house, locally sourced high grade rib-eye, and nothing but cooper sharp cheese to bless the crevices of said sandwiches. I'm talking about Angelo's, Del Rossi's, and more new kids on the block that have swept in and took the throne. Let's be honest here, these new spots are 5 star establishments. Would it be right to give John's a 5 star when I rather eat at these other places? Don't get me wrong, John's is a 5 star for their legacy, but in the big 2026, I'll have to leave them with a respectful 4 star. Solid cheesesteak. Classic cheesesteak. But I feel JRP has to pass the torch now!
