I've been here for dinner. And now for brunch and they have knocked it out of the park both times. Dinner: all the food was fantastic but I've got to say it was the salad with a surprise dill cucumber sorbet at the bottom that really took the experience to another level. Brunch: Well we ordered 6 dishes ( for two people ;) ) because we really wanted to try it all and once again everything we had was on point. From Quiche to Duck Hash this French spot is delicious. the delicious food paired perfectly with the wonderful customer service! I had a croissant made in house that was both buttery and sweet. I had the duck hash for brunch and it was melt in your mouth tender. The confit was topped with potato sticks that gave the hash a nice crunch. It was served with a soft boiled duck egg and was begging to have the hash dipped into it. For the dessert I got a vanilla sorbet with tiny biscuits in it. This was AMAZING!! I had a couple sparkling wines and the owner Amadeus made sure my glass was always full. The chef is an artist from France who Amadeus up rooted and relocated to Bed Stuy. This is the first review I've written because this place deserves one. As I'm sure you can tell by almost all the reviews below, you will not be disappointed when you come here, so make sure you do so. Most importantly, the menu is one of those in which the only thing you need is a thumb tack to hang it on the wall and a dart to throw at it. If you hit the menu, you'll be very satisfied. If you dont, then i guess just pick something, you'll get the same outcome. The place itself is homey; its relaxed, cozy, and warm. However you want to take that, the point is its comfortable. The inside is just as inviting as the fire&ice-flowered-garden outside. You get the french vibe they were going for while still feeling like its an extension of your own dining room. The waiting staff, manager, owner combo: couldnt even say enough good things about these humans if i tried. They are professional, kind, prepared, knowledgeable, good-lookin (inside and out); more importantly, they are there to serve and they do it well. Summary: Go here. Dont .... not go here. Went for dinner on a Friday night after work--I recommend making reservations. It was everything I needed to put the work week behind me. The staff was very welcoming and you felt like you were meeting with friends from the door. Very accommodating, the food was done to perfection. Really captures that Parisian feel. What's not to love about l'Antagoniste ? The food is amazing, the desserts especially the Paris Brest, is out of this world , and don't get me started with the quality of the wine ! Even the one you buy by the glass ! Great . Great service, the owner is there too and always so nice .. And the backyard is great and the decor is beautiful . For those who say the prices are a little higher then other places in the neighborhood, I respond that their suppliers are from local farms . I like to know I support local farmers and local businesses . In this day and age, it's nice to know where you food comes from . And don't expect diner portions, you are in a french restaurant ! Lol. I went with friends on opening night, and I'm sure to return to see how it's changed. The menu (all in French) is small, but offers some delicious plates. I had the salmon (cooked to perfection), but if you're feeling adventurous, you can order frogs legs. I'm not an expert on French cuisine, but the food seemed relatively traditional (some might say 'bland', but I'd say 'French'). The service is excellent & ambiance fabulous. This place is DELICIOUS. I am very picky with French food but this was just amazing, from the first to the desert. The oysters and the foie gras were very good (I prefer the foie gras not processed but it was good anyways) and then all the mains we had were excellent: the steak frites, the canard à l'orange and the cod. Adult dishes exceeded expectations. Beautiful souflee, fromage du tete de porc as starters and rich, indulgent seafood mains. Scallops with brandade was spectacular, lobster was tender with a full flavoured crayfish rose sauce. The wine list is longggggg and the bartender kindly suggested we try the champagne and sparkling wine when we couldn't decide based on description. Now THAT'S hospitality. They welcome you as if you're eating in someone's home. Every other Brooklyn restaurant TAKE NOTE. (Read: avoid Saraghina two blocks away. The experience is the complete opposite: loud, rude, inhospitable. Despite these places often being compared as a certain wave of neighborhood spots). The food is delicious, and for my palette not too heavy. Let's say it's as accessible as the staff. No snobbery here! In the age of places that don't match the menu and prices with good service... This place gives you the level of service you might get from $40 or $50 entree places. But at the $25-30 entree price range. A true value and so rare these days! Count your lucky stars! We discovered this place at the beginning of January and have gone back 3 times since. Definitely my new favorite place to take people in bed stuy. Byob mondays are great for chilling with friends and snacking on some of the best appetizers I've ever had in my life....highly recommend the foie gras and the fromage soufflé. oh and the steak tartare. oh oh and the bone marrow. just...all of them. Also while a little pricey the fondue room on the weekend is also a must try. The downstairs room feels like you're sitting in a chalet in Switzerland shoving cheese in your face and planning the resistance. We've had 3 different waiters and all three were super friendly and happy to talk about anything on the menu with you as well as give suggestions on their favorites. Will definitely be back and am anxiously waiting for it to be warm and try out the patio! read more

Super good food. Super nice owner, Super 5 stars chef!! I fly all way from Califorina to try its pressed duck. Chef was supposed off on thursday, pressed duck supposed only served on Sunday. I am surprised thaf owner and chef both willing to help to make a special arrangement on thur for us, so i can enjoy the special pressed duck before i go back CA on Sat morning. Brilliant experience. From the first appetizer to desert this was a terrific meal. Great ambiance and service. The back garden is transporting and feels very European. Amazing attention to detail and awesome wine selection. Lobster salad was sublime as were the mussels in an authentic French bouillabaisse. Then the Waygu beef frittes. Friggin' delicious! My husband and I live a block away from this restaurant and have been wanting to try it out for months. We loved it and had a wonderful time! First the design and decor was nice and everyone was very welcoming. We ordered the soufflé and the tuna nicoise to start. The soufflé was amazing and so was the nicoise but the fingerling potatoes were way under cooked. Perhaps this is just a preference but I like my fingerlings soft and buttery which I think would have made the dish complete if it was cooked thoroughly. I then had the NY strip and a side of wild mushrooms....truly delicious. And the steak was grilled perfectly. My husband had the lobster and crawfish tossed with a light tomato cream sauce and tagliatelle. Everything was great but there probably could have been a little more pasta added to the dish. I come here pretty frequently for brunch because it's nearby and as you guess from the 4 stars it's pretty good. The garden outside is very nice when it's warm enough. It's well decorated and bohemian. Service is top notch and the staff is down to earth and friendly. The food! Best fries I've ever had in the city! And if you like duck this is the place. I never post reviews but felt I had to share. We had 7:30 dinner reservations and still no entree by 9:00pm. Server mentioned that the chef "got mad" and there was disorder in kitchen. Oddly, everyone that arrived after us had their food. The cheese plate was the only thing we did get and was sub par to say the least. After notifying staff that we were leaving (without our meal) they handed us our meal in a to go box. Got home to two slabs of meat and no sides - ordered steak medium well and it was rare. This experience was beyond disappointing - not sure how you can run a business this way. We will not be returning. read more

I live about a 5 minute walk from here. It has quickly become a regular spot for me to stop in after work for a glass of wine. I also really do enjoying dining alone at the bar, talking to the lovely staff and/or owner. Its not pretentious, the staff goes out of their way to accommodate you without being overbearing. The quality of the food is unbelievable. You would pay double at least for the price and portions in Manhattan. AND The wine list is SO reasonably priced. I highly recommend the foie gras and a glass of the Chenin Blanc. Even though I am not a "brunch person" I stopped in a few Sundays ago and had a delicious omelette and salad. The environment is inviting and cozy, can't wait to sit outside on their patio once the weather gets warmer. Also downstairs they have a private dining area for larger groups that I will be using for my law school graduation in May. Ate here last night for the first time. Neighbors had tried it closer to when it opened and said it was really good, but the portions were small. They must have listened to others because between the two of us we had two entrees and the lobster salad and we had a little leftover too. Entrees (steak and duck) were both really good. My wife and I recently came here for date night. It was very convenient since it's in the neighborhood and the ambiance is really romantic. The food was spectacular. I got the steak frites and my wife got the hamburger. The food and ambiance made it a perfect night. I gave it only four, instead of five stars because we were a bit uncomfortable with the waitress, Shameyka, who was only looking at my wife whenever a question was asked or an order was made. It made date night a bit awkward given the overt flirtation. We found it unprofessional and uncomfortable, especially as two married lesbians desiring to be taken seriously as a couple. My wife had to deflect the heavy attention by making sure to glance in my direction in order to train the waitress to speak to both of us. But it didn't work. We'll certainly be back, but we'll be very mindful in requesting a different wait-staff! read more

I've always utilized Yelp but never reviewed myself, until now. I really felt compelled to sign up and write something because this place has so much potential. Key word - potential. My sister and I decided upon this place for her birthday dinner last week and unfortunately left pretty disappointed with the food. The space is lovely - very inviting, warm, charming. It's like a little French farmhouse in the middle of Bed-Stuy (cute outdoor garden included). The service was perfectly fine and attentive (of course, we were the only two people inside for most of our time there, short of a lady at the bar and a few diners outside). Drinks - My sister had glass of wine (she said it was meh) and we each got one of their bottled sparking juices. I had the grapefruit which was tasty enough and she had the tangerine which had zero flavor at all. We realized after, just by looking at the bottle, the grapefruit is a more flavorful sparking juice/soda while the tangerine is seltzer with barely a hint of tangerine flavor. (Honestly the cans we buy at Gristedes taste better.) Kind of a waste of $4. Menu should be clearer about what each is. Apps - Cheese souffle (we both thought this was tasty) and the frog legs. Oh, those damn frog legs. They had ZERO seasoning. The brandade underneath was good, but we actually struggled to even have more than one frog leg each because they just didn't taste good. They left a bad taste in our mouths. Entrees - We both ordered the special, duck confit. Who doesn't love duck confit?? We were so excited. It was fine. I've had better but I ate it. A bigger problem was the completely non-seasoned (not even under-seasoned) boiled potatoes and salad alongside. What was crazy is that the dressing was so close to being tasty and the potatoes cooked perfectly, but apparently the chef isn't quite comfortable seasoning his food just yet. (Also - no salt and pepper on the table for us to use.) I'm not somebody that craves heavily salted food at all - but some flecks of salt and pepper go a long way. Now here's a part that grossed me out the more I thought about it after I already left. A few of my potatoes had some blood splattered on them. I obviously pushed those aside. I thought more and more about this as I ate... duck confit cooks for hours (I've been to culinary school, I know) and wouldn't have blood dripping from it. Did the chef cut himself? Did a rare steak make its way over my plate during plating? Who knows. I mentioned both the seasoning issue and blood to our waitress and she did profusely apologize, but I really expected for my dish to at least be comp'd or the manager to come say something. I don't want a plate delivered to me with blood on it, when there's no reason it should be there. While we normally would have ordered dessert/coffee, we decided not to based on everything else we ate. So, that was too bad. Considering it was empty on a Friday night at 9pm, I think the food may have something to do with that.... I hope they can address some of these issues because the place is otherwise very cute! read more

Not only did we have a delicious meal, but she was kind enough to dumpster dive the following day to retrieve some headphones we inadvertently left the night before in a brown paper bag. Everything well flavored down to the side salad, with nice reductions on the beef as well as the bird. Staff are smart, courteous, and accommodating, as is the wine.
