L'Orangerie occupies a space at the Coronado Historical Association building which is on the main drag of this island city. I think the name was in homage to the orange trees (and buildings to protect them) that were planted along the avenue by the original settlers of Coronado. There was a lovely outdoor patio in front of the entrance. The interior had several tables across from the open kitchen for inside seating. If you don't mind being outside, then dining al fresco is the way to go. A menu of the day was available that featured drinks, salty, sweet, and dessert items. The main menu was several pages long with a few of them dedicated to drinks. For a French bistro, the variety of items was solid. From the list of nine Main Courses, I chose the Creamy Chicken which was a chicken breast coated with cream and mushrooms. French fries and a salad came as sides to the dish. The flavor of the creamed mushroom sauce was good while the fries were ordinary. My concern was the prices as they seemed high, especially for some of the more simple preparations. I noticed that Chef Philippe and all of the staff were fluent in French which was a good sign for the camraderie of the team. The service I received from multiple workers was fine. A happy hour runs from 2:30 to 5:30 daily. I rounded the rating for my dining experience at L'Orangerie up to a four star level because I really liked the ambiance of this new café. read more

L'Orangerie a french restaurant bistro opened recently in Coronado. Taking the corner space of the Coronado Historical Association building with towering columns. The noir et blanc striped outdoor umbrellas are eye catching. Turns out, owner and chef Philippe is a Francophile from France, happened to be standing at the entry, cordially welcomed Me inside. I chose outdoor seating with my furbaby Fendi. Most places with outdoor seating are pup friendly but I prefer the outdoor area to be spotless and clean as this place was. The service staff and my waiter Matt were nice attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, which was mostly French cuisine, which is always my favorite. Although, there are at least three other french restaurants in the area, I wanted to support this new restaurant and try the owner chef's take on french dishes. I'm guilty, I usually prefer pescatarian and chose the seared salmon. Presented nicely with fresh local organic ingredients, I was impressed with how exquisite the flavors enhanced the salmon's subtlety. The menu evolves seasonally and I look forward to returning to try other dishes. The french baguette slices ordered with the ordered homemade french butter is a must. Pomme frittes ie french fries with the ordered homemade Mayo for dipping was irresistible. From the wine menu, the Maceratoin, an orange wine from Alsace region in France was surprisingly perfect for a restaurant called L'Orangerie, meaning the orange grove. There are no orange groves in the area, but the restaurant is located on Orange Avenue which is restaurant row in the Coronado area. Locals and tourists walk through this avenue and makes for amusing entertainment while wining and dining on fantastique french cuisine at L'Orangerie. Happy to have finally come to L'orangerie, and to have met Chef Philippe! My friends and I came here for dinner, and were greeted to a cozy, warm and friendly environment! L'orangerie connects to the Historical Association and it is such a nice little spot. Chef was very kind and brought out and introduced us to our Charcuterie board, which I paired with a class of the Chablis. Following our board, one of my friends got the French Onion Soup, which was delicious, and our entrees were the Duck Pamentier and Steak Frites. I ordered my steak medium well, but it came out a little tough. I also substituted the peppercorn sauce for the creamed mushroom sauce, which was delicious. My friend also substituted her French fries for the asparagus risotto for her Steak Frites and was very pleasantly surprised! I'm looking forward to going back and trying other dishes on the menu. Wonderful patio! Great service! Delicious French Onion Soup for a starter then had the Steak Frites with salad for dinner. We had a bottle of Cab Franc as well and it was delicious and reasonably priced. We finished up with a chocolate mousse and crème brûlée. The chef is also the owner and came out to check on us which was also a nice surprise! This is a very nice addition to the Coronado restaurant scene and we highly recommend it! read more

Went to lunch with a friend and we were very disappointed. My friend ordered iced Tea and asked if it was black or herbal. She was told by the owner who was our waiter that it was black tea. It was herbal. There is one chicken dish on the menu that states GF. I asked why the salad, risotto and steaks would not be GF. I was told they are but the owners son did the menu and only marked the chicken. That shows a huge lack of attention to detail to me. I inquired due to celiac disease. I ordered the Niçoise salad and my friend ordered the quiche of the day. I truly believe the tuna was from a can. It may have been a French can but nonetheless it tasted and looked like canned tuna. There is nothing special about this Niçoise salad. My friend said the quiche lacked flavor and was dry. The owner also did not return to our table at all. We sat there with plates in front of us for well over 25 minutes. There was one other table with guests outside. We really wanted to like this new restaurant in Coronado. We both live on the island and try to support local business. Unless the food and service improves neither of us will be back. Sad! read more

My mom and I stumbled upon this place while shopping in Coronado for her birthday. We were greeted & taken care of by Jonathan, the director of operations, who was beyond wonderful! He was pleasant, competent, and spoiled us with some complimentary champagne. =P We ordered the deviled eggs & the caprese salad. The deviled eggs were to die for!! I have been craving them ever since! The caprese salad was delicious as well and the serving size of added chicken was generous. We were even lucky enough to speak with the owner/head chef- he is a warm Frenchmen. It took so long for the server to bring cream for my coffee that it was already cold by the time it arrived. The restaurant seemed understaffed, which likely explains the poor service. Two dining experiences to share. The first was lunch with my son. I had the Croque Madame and he had the Croque Monsieur. Nothing to say but Incredibly Delicious! The last time I had this sandwich taste so good I was actually in Paris. The next dining experience was to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday with dinner for the family. They went all out for us with exceptional service, ambiance, and personal care that it was a special event. The Cheif even made a special Mousse au Chocolate, my wife's favorite, that was served in a family style dish. Also, it's a family run restaurant and they're all from Belgium, the Mecca of chocolate. This restaurant just opened its doors in Coronado this summer, we had lunch there yesterday and it was WONDERFUL!!!! The service was very welcoming and friendly, we sat inside and it feels truly like a French Bistro. We tried the La Niçoise salad , the salmon toast, and seared salmon, and everything was delicious!! My husband had a really good French rosè and I had their white sangria , yum!!! To finish off our meal we had the crêpes with Nutella and the chocolate mousse and coffee. We'll be back for sure!! L'Orangerie is my new favorite restaurant in Coronado. Chef Philippe is an artist. The best pomme frites (French fries) I have ever had. There are two other French restaurants in Coronado, but this exceeds them both. The lovely salt and fresh cracked pepper mill that are on each table are unnecessary. The food is perfect without it. The restaurant is elegant with a hint of modern. The color orange is played up with real potted plants. And the fuchsia colored hydrangea outside are beautiful. Then he ordered the artichoke risotto and I had the Salmon, once again, incredible! The chef will come check on you to make sure your are happy with your meal. It started to cool down so they brought over a heater which made the rest of the evening very enjoyable. There is also inside dining however, we have always loved being outside. We visited L'orangerie for the time Saturday evening but it won't be our last. We tried two of their entrees - creamy chicken and the flat steak and they were both delicious as was the crème brûlée. And the french fries were the best I have ever had! It is a small, intimate restaurant and the owner helped out in the dining room when it got busy. Had dinner here for my father in laws birthday and it was the most incredible meal I've had in a long time! I got the creamy chicken. The chicken was so flavorful and cooked perfectly, the salad had the most incredible vinaigrette dressing with the perfect balance of sweet and tart, and the fries were the best fries I've had in my entire life, so crispy and flavorful! Wow! What an accidental find. The food is amazing. I ordered the 1 meat/2 cheese board which was fabulous. Then, the goat cheese salad where the flavor was so good. Last, I had the creamy chicken. Again, such great flavors. It's a husband/wife operation and they care so much about their food which is rare these days. The location is so great on the main drag on Coronado.
