LA AX joins the new trend of axe throwing joints across the US. They charge about $40 for an hour per person, have tons of lanes, and also offer many group options for parties and gatherings. After waivers, you're all set. It will be the most fun you've had in a while. I came here with an enthused group to take part in the $40, two hour, one coach option. It was helpful to have a coach to teach techniques, but also lead the games that pursued once everyone got their bearings straight. Learning to throw isn't actually hard, but consistency is key here. You will want to take friends who can really hang out, linger for a while and encourage others in a competitive environment. Payment is easy as they will use iPads to go to each person in the group to provide payment, and can refund any group deposit. Know that there are no drinks, but some snacks you have here. Large parties seemed to have brought in food for their families as well. Parking is easily located in the back and you'll want to come around to the front of the building to go inside. From there you'll sign waivers, let them know of your group (or just tell them you're there to throw), and then go nuts. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! read more

Recently visited LA AX with my partner ave a couple friends. We were looking for a fun outdoor activity that none of us had ever tried. Thankfully LA AX did not disappoint. From the moment we hit the door we were met with staff who were friendly, professional and most importantly experts. They immediately made us feel welcomed and showed us the ropes or should I say ax. During the session we were paired with a personal coach the entire time who ensured that we learned the proper way to throw an ax. The location serves a great selection of craft beers and wine and they keep tabs on a two drink mix while you're throwing to make sure that everyone is safe. I can't say enough about the approachable staff who all made an effort to engage and speak with our group to make us feel welcomed. If any of them were within a close distance they made a point to have a fun interaction and chat with us. Who knew that axe throwing was a thing? If you're looking for something different to do this weekend, you should definitely check out LA AX! Walk-in for an hour session for $25, or book a reservation for 2 hours for $40. I've come here twice, just walking in on an early afternoon. Coming in early was nice as there aren't too many people, so you can throw for the full hour. If there are more people you may have to share throw area with them/trade-off turns during your time. Both times, Kevin was my instructor and he was super cool and helpful! He mentioned that they have a league that meets up weekly, too! I would for sure consider joining, if only I lived closer! BEST NIGHT IN A WHILE ! From the moment at we entered the door the staff at LA Axe earned this review 100% . We were immediately greeted by the awesome girl at the reception desk . After signing our waivers and such we were taken back to the axe zone . After about 5 minutes we were greeted by Marty who would be our instructor for the evening . He was great off the bat ! He explained to us all the rules and safety guidelines of axe throwing and took the time for questions and to repeat anything if necessary. After a few minutes of this he instructed us each on how to properly throw the Axe and helped us to understand how to hit the target better . Marty was on a roll the entire event with cool jokes and commentary while we threw our axes . They had a playoff system and eventually a championship round to determine the best axe thrower . If you decide to book your event here make sure to ask for Marty and you won't be disappointed. The facility is spotless and they offer drinks and snacks at a decent price . You can also bring your own food or have postmates deliver like we did . They give you your own table to place your items and to eat your food . The bathrooms here were impeccable and were being refreshed by an employee while I made a visit . Overall awesome experience and I am already looking to booking something in the very near future . I had a blast at LA AX! I had gone with a small group of four as a Walk-In, for my boyfriend's birthday! The women at the front counters were super sweet and helpful, straight off the bat! They lead us to our coach Ashley who was really knowledgeable, informative, and helpful when it came to learning how to throw the ax, definitely recommend her if you can request a coach! I really appreciated all the kindness and enthusiasm from all the employees. It really made things enjoyable. The pricing wasn't too bad either ($25 per hr) compared to other places I was looking at! There's a decent amount of parking and the super narrow entrance kinda bugged me, that was the only thing that was mehhh, but the rest was awesome! What a fun experience! Free street parking which can be challenging but doable. Easy check in process. Friendly, helpful staff. Had 2 hours of time with a coach who stayed with us and coached us the entire time as well as ran competitive tournament. So much fun! If I could I would give them zero stars. We had made a reservation for tomorrow and today we received some very bad news. When we try to cancel they didn't care and still charge us a fee, even though it was an extremely emergency. We were not planning to cancel. I can't imagine a better way to blow off steam than by grabbing an axe and chucking it at a wooden wall. This place is so cool and a great way to not only have fun, but release some stress! I came here about an hour before closing which was perfect since you pay $25 for an hour. There was only one other couple inside so we basically had the whole place to ourselves and an awesome trainer! Chuck showed us the ropes on the proper way of holding the axe, throwing the axe, the perfect form and had a great sense of humor! Chuck made our first axe throwing experience so much fun and genuinely taught us some valuable lessons when it comes to axe throwing. It's not as easy as it seems, but with enough practice we were hitting some bullseyes here and there. There's only street parking available from what I saw but I was here around 9pm so it was all pretty empty. $25/hour for axe throwing with a trainer, it is 21+ since alcohol is served inside. There's also a cool lounge area we didn't get to check out with jenga and cornhole available to play. Definitely wanna come back with some friends and practice my throwing skills! Came here last Sunday with a big group of 25. Parking is found in the back with limited spaces so we had to find street parking which wasn't too bad. You step in and on your left is a shop if you wanted to buy anything, but they ask you to fill out waivers. Keep in mind we made reservations. Once everything was all set, they walked us the the ax lanes, we took up 8 lanes, they have about 24 or more I believe. Anytime you throw an ax, a coach will be right next to you watching and teaching you, whether it be small or large, pro or amateur. I had never been axe throwing in my life. It was just an amazing experience. We had our own section and our instructor was very awesome. You are allowed to have 2 alcoholic beverages when axe throwing due to safety precautions. The instructor is with you at all times and honestly it's great because not only is he teaching you he also had a few game for us. Had my bday party here and it was something new and different for my group of friends. Ax throwing is a little harder than it looks and pretty fun especially when you start getting the hang of it. The BIG AX at the end was a nice treat! Special shout out to Aly and Eryn (spelling?)! They were entertaining and work great with each other. Super friendly and fun! I would have to say they are pretty great coaches. I do appreciate the last minute accommodation when additional people came in the middle of our session. :) I thought the venue was quite spacious and I loved the mural art throughout the walls. There's non-alcoholic beverages sold near the front. LA AX does not have its liquor license yet as of Dec 2019... they should have it by Feb/March 2020. If they had any kind of food it was only snack as my party brought it take out prior to our session. The parking lot is a decent size but when half of the area is filled with groups, the lot can fill up pretty quickly. Would love to come back to throw more axes to perfect the skill! Have been here a few times pre-pandemic. Tried to make a reservation last week, and the guy on the phone was very rude, so I didn't end up checking out their outdoor setup. The gentleman seemed like he was in a rush to get off the phone, and didn't like answering the questions I had. They're IATF, not WATL. Not a fan of IATF targets or how they teach you to throw here. Also, at least pre-pandemic, they put you on the lane with strangers and it drastically cut into your throwing time that you pay for. Seems like a cash grab to me and not really about teaching people about this new fun sport. There are other options in LA for axe throwing now that it's becoming more popular. Will be checking them out trying to find a place that is WATL certified. Perhaps somewhere with more friendly staff members as well. Also, as a side note, I have a 17-year old son that loves axe throwing, and this place is 21+ which is a bummer. I don't think it's safe to be throwing axes while under the influence anyway. Omg! Can you say stress reliever! Why didn't it occur to come here? I absolutely am in love with Ax Throwing. It's fun and its was cheaper than keying you're ex's car or breaking his windshield, lol (I'm kidding there). Anyway, the staff is super nice and very helpful. The coaches are amazing and they are so patient. They want to make sure you get the hang of it. They take walk ins but beware you may have to wait 30-45 min. I highly recommend booking in advance. Parking lot is behind the facility but it's small so you may not find parking. They are kind of hard to miss. All you have to do is look for Dejavu strip club and you'll see LAAX next business over lol. They have snacks and beverages such as water and sodas but no alcoholic drinks yet. They also do large group reservations for parties. Wear comfy closed toe shoes no flip flops or sandals and I don't recommend heels. It's so much fun that the hour goes by super fast and you forget the time. Only thing is you don't get your own lanes. There are 2 sides. Each side has 3 coaches, each with their own set of lanes (4 per coach). You and how ever many people you have will be assigned to a group. In our case we had 3 people to so they assigned us to a group that already had 4 people. So you get rotated in and out. Still it's hella fun once you get the hang of it. Tip: 1st timmers when you walk through the door immediately go to your right and sign the waivers. Make sure you take an ID. If you love the coaches don't forget top leave them a tip at the end. read more

First off- our AXperts were Bill and Evan who were PHENOMENAL. They were so much fun and incredibly supportive with teaching how to throw an axe. Their tips and tricks really helped out a lot! I came here for with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. We all didnt know what to expect but it was much more open than we did expect. We had a reservation and reserved some targets out side for our group. The two gentlemen that were our guides were very fun and energetic. It def made the experience much more fun. They started off teaching you the basics on how to throw and then tell you exactly what they see you are doing incorrectly and help you adjust. Once you get the hang of it they start to add different techniques and different games for you to play with your friends. We were able to do a tournament with our group of 10, which was really fun. You just get bragging rights at the end but fun nonetheless. We also go to throw the larger axe, which we someone how broke the handle of two which apparently was really rare LOL. Overall, very fun experience which is making me want to go buy an axe and some wood at homedepot and just chucking it. read more

Celebrated my birthday here a couple Saturdays ago and I am SO happy I did! I've been axe throwing once before at a place in NY so I kind of new what to expect. I had a group of 6 so we paid the $40 to get 2 dedicated targets and an instructor for 2 hours. If you want this option make sure you book a couple weeks in advance to get the time slot you want. Their afternoons fill up very quickly. Our instructor Taesty (yes that's the correct spelling) and she was so freaking AMAZEBALLS to us from start to finish! On top of being super hilarious and fun she was also very patient with everyone and really took time to perfect our throwing so we all hit at least a couple bullseye by the end and didn't leave hanging our heads. After learning the basics we did a tournament style throwing contest leading to a winner who gets bragging rights. Everyone had a ton of fun and we got great pics. They currently have people signing a petition to help get their liquor license and I think once they do it will be perfect. The only downside was that even with two hours we didn't get to try throwing one handed (I learned this in a one hour session at the previous place). Also one of the targets we had was crazy worn down compared to all the other lanes and we noticed the axes stuck to that one much less than the other. There was a whole row of other targets in decent shape so not sure why they put us on that one but honestly we had a great time overall anyway so not a huge deal in the end, I can't wait to come back again and will try out the 1 hour rotating in option. Man oh man! My girlfriend totally surprised me this past Saturday with the best "Bae-Date" ever She brought us here. After months of interest we finally took the forty five minute drive to give Axe throwing a try. And this place did not disappoint. Walking in we were both greeted by a very upbeat and fun employee. Unfortunately I do not remember her name but she was a fellow New Yorker also from Brooklyn. So that was a great first impression. Once settled in we were paired with our coach Yesenia. Who I can't even start to say enough fantastic things about her. So was a great balance of fun and patient with us. She did her job in teaching us the safety and overall techniques of Axe throwing. And through out the entire time she was very engaged and nothing but fun. I for a fact will request her for any and all future reservations. The whole staff was nothing but great. At some point I purchased a few drinks and interacted with a few other fun employees. I say it all the time, I'm a customer service first type of person and this place won my girlfriend and I over with their professionalism and outgoing personalities. The fun part of course was the axe throwing itself. The space you have to do so is great. It's as much fun as you would imagine. Definitely an activity for any occasion. Friends hanging out, date night, birthday get together, whatever you can think of. I was slightly bummed out that they didn't serve alcohol. But I was informed that they are working on it and were taking names for the support in making it happen. Obviously my girlfriend and I wrote our names down. But a pro was that they did mention outside food and drinks were allowed. That was awesome to hear being sometimes I can be a picky bastard on what I eat and drink while being out and about. I forsure will be back again real soon. Hopefully making this place a semi regular activity spot. I live in West LA so it's easier said than done. But I'll be back with friends and family.
