The twelve taco deal is fantastic when you are looking to smash some good, greasy tacos. The salsa that they make here has a medium kick and is very tasty, making a great companion to your chow box. Every time I've come here I've only ever ordered the tacos with medium shells so I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but it's well worth the stop if you are driving by. Went to their opening night at their new location. Big mistake. Didn't look like they cleaned the restaurant after being closed for some time. Poor service. Food coming from the kitchen (when it finally came out) didn't look appetizing at all. Chips and Salsa we horrible. Waited over and hour to get our food. Waitress finally told us order had just been submitted. Ended up walking out and going elsewhere. Worst part was watching the owner walk around on his cell phone. Think he would've been in the kitchen helping out. He didn't even go table to table to speak with his patrons. Won't be going back. read more

Today was our first visit to La Azteca. We drive by often on our way to down town Flint and decided to stop in on our way back home. Both my husband and I had the Chimichanga dish that included a small salad, beans and rice and it was delicious. It was a huge serving of ground beef in the flour shell. The seasoning was mild and I added the sauce in the bottle what was on the table. It could have been a little hotter for my taste, but that is not a big deal. It was clean in there, the wait staff was pleasant. It was evident that they could use more help. We were there about 2pm and the tables were not bussed from lunch time yet. We will definitely be stopping again because the food was really good. I don't go to Taco Bell, an insult to taco's. Try this place if you want a really good Mexican meal. read more

Pretty Good Food but in bad area of town. Service can be very slow at times. Atmosphere not real good.

Tried to place a to go order at this place and they set the phone down on the counter for 15 minutes. When I tried to call back and tell them that I've already been on hold they didn't even listen and just set it down again for another 10 minutes. I was going to place a fairly large order because I had company and that's why I put up with it. Amazing! Randomly stopped here after a weekend up north and was blown away by this place! Looks a bit like a hole in the wall, but service was amazing, bathrooms are super clean and the salsa was obviously homemade and delicious. The food could definitely compete with anything in the Metro Detroit area, even Mexican Town. Sure it took a little bit longer than taco bell, but if you want taco bell speed, just go to taco bell. Tried this place out on a whim. People kept saying "it looks like butt, but the food is tasty". They were pretty much correct. The fish tacos are scrummy, love those; the corn tortillas were a bit mealy but the flavor was great, especially the baja sauce or whatever. Also I got a huge taco salad for $5.75+tax I believe it was. Sides of small guacamole and pico de gallo were $2 and $1.50 respectively. I know that the price of avocados has gone up up, but I still feel a bit cheated. At any rate, it's fairly authentic, and pretty good for the Flint area. So give it a shot if you're craving Mexican food. A word of caution however: if the shabby state of the exterior puts you off, it's about twice as sketchy on the inside. For a casual, mostly carry-out restaurant business, you can expect to get a good amount of satisfaction to the dollar. The food is tasty, but expectedly unhealthy. Nonetheless, it is always freshly prepared, moist and piping hot. I have eaten at La Azteca for decades. It is my go to place when I am in Flint, and I sometimes make the drive from Saginaw because I miss the food. I did have one bad experience a few years back, the taco meat was bland, the stew meat was not tender, and the rice tasted like something you could get off the shelf at Walmart. I gave them a second chance a few weeks later, and the food was back up to par, I do not know what happened. read more

I love their food but the terrible neighborhood and even worse customer service make it so that I won't even go there anymore. I paid for an extra salsa recently and they forgot to give it to us. I called them and told them and they said I could pick it up the next day, well unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you think about it) I don't go to that side of town very often so it was about 2 weeks before I went again and when I placed my order by phone I informed them that they owed me a salsa. The woman I spoke with made it seem like getting us that salsa wouldn't be a problem, however, when my fiancé went to pick up the order it apparently was a big problem that La Azteca was not willing to over look. They would not give us an extra salsa! Honestly, I was pissed. I couldn't believe they made such a big deal about some salsa when both times I had placed over $20 orders. Tacos are AMAZING but service ruins it. I was only given half my order and when I called I was told to bring ALL the food back. It was for lunch at work so that was inconvient. I just called to place a pick up order and was placed on "hold" twice, 5 minutes and 9 minutes. THe phone was just sat on the counter so I could hear people ordering and talking. So delicious! It a hole-in-the-wall, kinda looks a little unclean inside, but the food is to die for. I usually only get take-out. Be sure to tell them when you will arrive to pick up your order, or they may not start cooking it until you get there. The girls working the front counter are pleasant and efficient. My recommendations are the chicken tacos and fish tacos. Use the spicy salsa sparingly! Any beef dish is very greasy, yummy greasy. Price is quite reasonable, inexpensive. Do not let the outside fool you this place has some really good food. me and my wife must have driven by this place a million times. I always wanted to try it but she was a little skeptical because of its appearance. I finally stopped in one time by myself and OMG the food was awesome. I brought it home and gave some to my wife and she loved it too. she still wont go their to eat but we get take out from there all the time.
