I just found my go to order out Chinese food... hands down they take the crown. Honestly the best I've had in many years.. I absolutely love the fact that they marinate and cook their fried items in the sauce and I absolutely love the flavor and presentation. I hate when places fry their food and deliver with the sauce on the side! I would much rather have them soggy with cooked flavor than dry and crisp. Like why does the spicy mustard look like this and it's not even spicy and tastes off. The spring rolls are not cooked all the way through, the dough is soggyin the middle. The general tso chicken is all dry and chewy. The crab puffs have no crab in them just cream cheese. General Tso was fantastic. It is reasonably priced for the amount of food. We love the spices used. We never had this spice flavor or level of heat in Pennsylvania. Ok, finally a semi decent meal in Tucson,but nothing otherworldly. The sesame chicken had way too much breading, but if you peeled alot off, the white meat meat underneath was nice chunks. The veggie egg rolls were small, but tasty and two other people enjoyed their hot and sour and wor wonton soup. All these years and I have only ordered takeout; I've never taken a meal on site. I had a little bit of town, and finding that I had a craving for plump cuts of stir fry chicken, steam broccoli and white rice to balance out the flavor, I found my way over to La Bella. As always, the restaurant was quiet, save a boisterous group of youngsters having an enjoyable time toward the back of the restaurant. I am always somewhat surprised to find the lack of foot traffic but observed during my stay that there is a steady filing of take out orders. More so than dine-in orders. So curious, because La Bella offer a lovely, comfortable space for dine-in meals. It's wide open. Spacious enough. And could easily take on multiple large parties. Lovely spot that looks like it was decorated with grandmothers and great aunts in mind. I went with the sesame chicken with steamed rice. Little did I know that this would come with a side order of two crab puffs and an egg roll AND a choice of soup. I went with egg drop. All that at less than $10. People consistently complain about the lack of authentic Chinese food in Tucson. Admittedly, La Bella caters to the American palate fond of syrupy sweetness. I found it so -- with my sesame chicken, which was far too sticky with far too much honey, a bit too heavy on the cornstarch. I have found this to also be true of the fried rice and also the beef and broccoli. Flavor is good, just a bit too heavy. But the egg drop soup was a pillow of heaven, with its wispy eggs and plump corn kernels. And you'll have the wonderful benefit of such a broad range of choices: lo mein, sizzling rice, udon soup and even a deep fried vegan chicken dish. La Bella is a small, family owned restaurant that has some good Chinese food. My family has known their family for years and have been coming here for a long time. They have all of the traditional American Chinese dishes and they execute them well. Actually I don't think I have found a better Hot and Sour Soup anywhere else in town. It has a nice spice to it as well as having good amounts of fillers (i.e. the tofu, meat, etc.). It also has the perfect consistency for a Hot and Sour Soup. Thick enough to coat the tongue, but enough viscosity to move easily. The prices are good, the portions are plentiful, and they have a true family-run business atmosphere.
