Our table was very close to the one next to us which made the experience feel less intimate. On top of that, it was a bit warm inside. The service was ok and the food was mediocre. The meatballs needed more flavor and the kale and mushroom soup was mediocre. We both liked the artichokes but they were ver citrusy so might not be everyone's cup of tea. read more

Took a gamble and walked in on a Saturday night w no reservations. Hostess was kind enough to find room for us at the bar - which I was so glad for because we had a fabulous time doing the sherry flight tasting w the bar tender. Ordered the kale salad (which I'm trying to recreate at home!), lamb chops, morcilla pintxo (blood sausage) and a one person paella to share. Finished with chocolate pot au crème w churro. All the food was fabulous~ Highlight of the night was hanging with the bartender as we discussed sherry. Cozy spot with good food. Yes, it may seem a bit random to be eating Spanish tapas in Santa Fe, but it's never a bad idea to have tapas and good wine. The boquerones w/ pan con tomate were solid, definitely get an order. The kale salad was a nice light bite that I actually really needed. I'm not a big artichokes person but everyone else seemed to like the alcachofas. Gambas al ajillo were good enough though not memorable. Lamb albondigas were solid. The sauces that came with the patatas bravas were excellent. Skip the paella, it'll fill you up and it was one of the weaker dishes. The wines we had were great and paired well with the dishes. Saturday ~ May 12th We enjoyed our first visit here, and overall it was an enjoyable experience once you made it past the hostess* La Boca reminded us of our times wandering through Spain, and Portugal together. Service was terrific ... ever present, yet gracefully unobtrusive and pleasant. Each course was a delight, including my wife's spritzer cocktail and my enjoyable bottle of red ($48). My favorite was the charcuterie for two ($24) ... a delightfully prepared composition of unique flavors arranged nicely and presented traditionally. Overall - a nice experience for $200 * upon arrival for our 5pm reservation, our hostess greeting / interaction was impersonal, and borderline rude. The hostess reminded us three times she needed the "table turned" in 1.5 hours. All without eye contact and accompanied by misplaced pretentiousness, which she neither earned or deserved on her fourth day of employment. I personally don't enjoy the "parent to child" tone from a twenty something hostess, who's neither poised, respectful or capable. I went to La Boca tapas restaurant with two family members to celebrate a birthday last evening. Charming isn't how I normally describe taking a meal at a restaurant, but that is the word that best describes our experience there. When I called to say we'd be 10 minutes late for our reservation, the pleasant woman who answered the phone basically said it was no problem and for us to drive safely. Sweet. Our server was Sawyer and he just had the best countanence and was really great about describing the menu. The restaurant appears to be known for its sherry selections. We asked for and received a lesson from Sawyer in Sherry 101 that was informative and spot on. We enjoyed our food. Unfortunately, we had had a late lunch and couldn't finish our meals. One in our group ordered the paella for one. Definitely good but couldn't say it was the best he'd ever had. Two of us shared the Tabla Mixta (charcuterie board) with meats, cheeses, olives, pickled veggies, and toast. Very tasty. We also ordered Patatas Bravas (potatoes) which were delicious with the two sauces. And my favorite was the Gambas al Ajillo, shrimp in a sauce that was good for dipping the extra baguette we ordered. I guess my only suggestion would be to translate everything on the menu, rather than just some things. I will be looking up items to see what I'll want to order next time. Me and The Hubs were visiting Santa Fe a little over a month ago and had dinner here on our last night (be sure to make a reservation well in advance). It's a very small restaurant, but very cute. Tables are very close together, but it's not off-putting. There's more of a community, or even family, feel to it. We started with cocktails while we perused the menu, and also ordered a bottle of wine to have with our meal. The best that I can recall, we shared the following: - Alcachofas (grilled artichokes) - Jamon Serrano with olives - Grilled eggplant - Paella Classica for one Everything was delicious and it was a very substantial amount of food for the two of us. We did not leave hungry! As a note, the paella for one is a fairly large serving (although I thought it was a bit too heavy with chorizo). Service was friendly and efficient, and we did not lack anything. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and will definitely come back the next time we are in town. This place was top notch! I stopped by for a solo lunch in between conference sessions. I love Spanish tapas so I wanted to try this place out before I left Santa Fe. The locale is small but there wasn't a rush so they were able to seat me right away. I had their lunch special which included a soup or salad, a sandwich and a slice of chocolate cake. Alllllll of it was so tasty! The mushroom soup was creamy and had an understated kick. The sandwich was very flavorful and the meat was tender. The cake was so tasty that I didn't get a chance to picture it. Also ordered the patatas bravas as aioli sauce is my favorite food. They were not my fave part of the meal because the potatoes had a sort of paprika taste to them that made them smoky and, to me, it overshadowed the tastes of the traditional snack. However, I recognize that this restaurant puts it on spin on some of the traditional Spanish tapas. While I wouldn't order those again, I'd love to come back if I'm in the area. read more

We checked in for our reservation at La Boca after an event nearby. We were an hour early for out reservation, but no problem, we were seated right away. We started with a lavender collins and a bottle of Naveran Cava. The cocktail was delicious, the sparkling wine was divine! All food dishes were super, including the manchego frito, sardine toasts, shrimp with ajillo chilis, seared yellowfin tuna, mussels and artichoke hearts. Tapas for all, and all we're over the top delicious! If forced to identify favorites, the sardine toasts, shrimp and mussels stole the show! A dessert plate of gateau basque, a cheesecake-like dessert in crust topped with whipped cream and sour cherries. Very nice live music as well! An amazing dinner! Great Spanish restaurant in downtown Santa Fe. I ordered the Paella Classica for One ($25), which was high quality with the classic flavorful saffron rice and seafood plus chicken and chorizo. Just a few minor points for improvement: the rice could have been a bit creamier, the chorizo was a bit too salty, and the chicken was average in quality (not that flavorful). We also got two tapas: Grilled Eggplant ($16) and Chicharrones de Andaluz ($14). The eggplant was impressive - the melted manchego cheese on top was really tasty and the saffron honey added a unique and delicious sweetness to the grilled eggplant. The chicharrones (fried pork belly) was fried really well so that it was crispy on the outside and not too fatty like pork belly sometimes can be, but also soft on the inside and easy to chew. The cumin flavor went well with the pork belly. For dessert, we got the Gateau Basque ($12), which was really good - the vanilla bean cream tart was delicious with a nice crust with the tasty cream inside. The brandied cherries added some sweetness to the otherwise creamy dessert (creme fraiche on top added to the yummy creaminess). The prices are all typical for a nice Spanish restaurant like this but don't break the bank. The restaurant was filled on a Sunday night - we had a reservation, but still had to wait a couple min to get a table. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the service speed is decent. There is a nice, clean, and elegant decor inside with nice large food-themed photos on the walls and a nice bar area. Overall, I would give La Boca 4.5 stars if I could for a great selection of Spanish tapas and entrees in a nice environment and convenient location. read more

The highlight of our trip to Santa Fe! This is a tiny tapas restaurant in the heart of the city that proves big flavor comes in small packages. I wish we had had more room to try more menu items. However, the patatas bravas with 2 sauces, flat iron steak with 2 sauces and mushroom bruschetta topped with a fried egg were all to die for. The aji shrimp/gambas were good but I would probably try something else next time (maybe the jamon croquettes) since they didn't knock my socks off like the rest of the food. The staff was lovely and I received a great wine recommendation since I don't know much about old world reds. The Dejesa tempranillo was the perfect pairing for me and the hubs got La Boca's version of an old fashioned with apple brandy cask finished whiskey - delish! Clearly a five in my book. Having missed this place in prior trips I won't make that mistake ever again. Yes the Marcy Street dining is tiny and crowded--and can be loud. We tried a large variety, and found nothing of note, all just Fine at best. The bread (made by an outside bakery) was unfortunately the best food of the night. Almond cake dessert was incredibly dry. We've been here twice before when it is busy, and with reservation made, and the food is fantastic. Decided to have a late lunch this time (3:30pm) and it was not busy, which seemed good. Only two tables occupied. Three workers standing in the back, made eye contact, looked away, ignored us. We waited 10 minutes. Not one of them would come up to greet us. So we left. And went elsewhere. Not worth it. I see why people are turned off by fro t of house here. No food is good enough to be ignored like this. Management - you need to fix this.
