Great food but mediocre service... I have visited many La Bottega locations and always love the food (especially the chicken and avocado salad) I came in and noticed that they seemed to have a large amount of employees working although there was only a table of two sitting in the dining room. Our waiter came over and took or order and then someone else brought us oil and bread. The bread was served in a brown paper bag that was folded over a few times with only two small slices in the bag. I just thought that was a very strange presentation. My friend and I ordered the chicken and avocado salad and the penne with vodka sauce to split. The pasta was served way before the salad even though I specified we wanted to start with the salad. Also, with the large amount of employees in the restaurant it took a very long time to get a refill on drinks or even to pay the check. I love the food but next time I will definitely be visiting another location. read more

Aside from the best panini and salads you can find, they have a really well conceived menu for their dining room and an extensive Italian wine list. Try the specials, the cheese plates, and the bruschettta sampler. The ricotta cheesecake and flan are the real deal. Please note, however, all the other satellite La Bottegas and franchises pale in comparison. Service seems to be lacking since the renovation... they doubled the size of the dining areas, but apparently didn't hire more waitstaff. The last time my wife and I went there for an anniversary dinner, our waiter was a train wreck. Entrees arrived right on top of the apps, and I never got my second glass of wine. Had we not had this one bad experience out of a dozen or so dinners there, I would have given them 5 stars. read more

I picked 2 stars and really wanted to pick 3 but something has been lost!! We use to eat here (West Hempstead) at least once a week until several months ago. The Panini's are great! If you are hungry DO NOT order the ravioli because you get maybe 6! The place use to feel like a quaint neighborhood cafe with really good service and food. However, I can no longer say this so I am hopeful the owners will read this and do something to regain their old faithful patrons again! read more

Just had a private event for some customers and ordered two pannins Baskets(15 pannins-$160). Wow, what a mistake! They where delivered In tin plates ( aka .99 cents store) and looked as if they where ripped apart, Not cut with a knife .. What a presentation. Embarrasing to say the least. 15 different Pannins and no one knew what anything was on the piled up, tin platter. If your having a major get together, stay away.. But for a single sandwich, it's ok. read more

Food isn't bad, but the service is so consistently poor (see other reviews on Google, Tripadvisor, etc) we've made a conscious decision to move on to other places in the area. Very long wait times for dine-in meals. The last straw was recently ordering a basil, tomato and mozzarella panini for pickup, only to come home and discover there was no basil. When I called back to talk with the manager, she said she knew that they skipped the basil because the store ran out. She was totally unapologetic. When I asked why she wouldn't tell me this on the phone, she basically told me that my single panini order was unimportant, before suggesting I drive back to the store and pay the difference for a new panini. She was practically bored with the conversation. In summary, this location (which is part of a chain) is poorly managed/staffed. Avoid it if you can. There's tons of similar options within 2-3 blocks, including Avellino's, Umberto's, and Rustica (we've switched our business permanently to the latter.) read more

Worst establishment by far. Ordered from here, was told food would be ready in 20 minutes. Arrived exactly 20 minutes later only to find that they didn't start making my food til I got there. Two paninis took 40 minutes. Then finally when I get home, my order is completely wrong. So many options, delicious combinations, and very good and simple ingredients. One thing is for sure, the sandwiches come out hot and tasty. The bread is perfectly crispy on the outside with a thin inside layer of chewiness - not burned and not so hard where each bite slices up the roof of your mouth. I don't think you can go wrong with any sandwich choice (they have A LOT of choices) because they all sound great. I had the bistec e fontina (comes with guacamole spread) and the crudo (prociutto, mozz, and arugula). Split the halves with my date. Nice portions to keep you full. The dining area in the back is small and dim. I think there's less than 10 tables but it turns out to be a great place to catch up over conversation, simple-but-well-executed food, and wine/beer/coffee. Service is friendly and unrushed. It's casual yet a little intimate. The tiramisu is pretty good - not too sweet - just how I like it. The cappuccino came out piping hot (appreciated this) but on the weak side. Almost tasted like coffee. Hmm... Anyway, I wish I could say I'll come back more often to try other menu items, but I was only around the neighborhood for a once-a-year event. I have been going to this botega for years. We would go for lunch once a week. The food was always great! Unfortunately we ordered delivery. The food was 45 minutes late. We specifically asked if the food would definitely be delievered by 12, as we had limited time to eat. They said it wouldn't be a problem. We called around 12:10 and they said the food would be there any minute. We didn't receive the food until 12:45. A lunch was also missing. When we called back we weren't even offered to have the missing food be delivered. They just said "sorry, we've been very busy." I completely understand being busy, but we should have never been told our food would be delivered by that time when we specifically asked. In addition, I have called and left my name and number to speak a manager four times within the last 8 days, to no avail. Last year when I called to tell how wonderful our experience was I received a phone call back that same day. Terrible customer service. They lost a big group of people to something that could have been handled very easily! read more

We just had such an unfortunate experience regarding this restaurant and their exceptionally poor customer service. Our office orders occasionally as we love the food. The other day, we put in a large order in the morning and requested a Noon delivery. We called at 12:25 to check on our order and were told " I don't know what to tell you. We don't have a delivery person here today and have many orders sitting here. I have no idea when the food will be delivered" After a short discussion where it was obvious that they had absolutely zero plan as to what they were going to do; I stated that we would pick up the food. Upon pick up, we asked for the $1 delivery fee to be removed and they said NO and gave no explanation why they didn't call us to inform us they had no delivery person - and refused to give us the $1 delivery fee back. The one is star given is for the food only - such a shame. We work in a large office and made sure we informed the building of this completely ridiculous experience. I just can not wrap my brain around their lack of professionalism. They could not care any less that they lost many, many customers. read more

We were in the mood to eat something light for dinner and none other than La Bottega came up! I was informed that this place had some really good salads and paninis, so I was eager to try some of their food. 4 of us decided to order paninis and salads for takeout. I decided to order the Susan Salad ($8.00), which consists of chicken cutlet, mix greens, red onions, hot peppers, corn, gorgonzola, tomatoes & balsamic dressing. They informed us it would take about 20 minutes to prepare our orders for pickup, which I'm presuming everything is made to order. We picked up the orders without wait, and took them back to someone's house to eat. The salad was decent in proportion, in a large plastic platter container, with plenty (about 20 slices) of chicken cutlet. The chicken cutlet was tender with the perfect amount of crisp from the batter. It was delicious. All the other veggies (greens, onions, corn, tomatoes) were fresh and crisp, the hot peppers carried some heat, gorgonzola was fresh and not mushy, and even the balsamic dressing was perfectly proportioned. Yum!! I was very impressed with the freshness of all the food, especially the chicken which I find to be precooked or tasting as if it were sitting for a while. I also got to try the Erika Panini ($5.50) which is chicken cutlet, mozzarella on krispina. The portions were very generous, slightly bigger than the panini's you would find at Panera Bread. Once again the chicken cutlet was tender and batter perfectly crisp. The mozzarella was nice and gooey, just how I like it. I'm definitely going to have to come back to this place to try their other ~50 paninis and ~20 different salads. read more

a real local jem. the food is very good for takeout. so far i have only had two of their paninis and salads. i have yet to try their pasta dishes. what makes this place good is that the price is low as well...about seven dollars a sandwich. there is also excellent variety. i dont think i will get sick of this place soon. read more

the sandwhcich is huge and moderately priced. i wish it would come with a dipping sauce so u dont cut the top of ur mouth. my steak was tuff and very little quantity in my sandwhich. they also forgot to put mushrooms in my sandwhich. this place has so much potential if they can have me fix a few things. i watch the food channel religiously. read more

I ordered the Insalata di Mango for lunch today. The best part was just the name. It was supposed to have fresh mango. Only problem was that all the chunks were green, hard and tasteless. Do they know that mangos are eaten ripe when they are orange, sweet and tasty? The mango dressing tasted as though it was made from those same unripe mangos. Considering the greens in the salad were kale, which was expectedly bitter, not having sweet mango left the dish tasteless, bitter and bland. Next time I'll head to a burger place for lunch. read more

worst la bottega ever! dont ever go there! the people are the worst and the workers are very clueless. i placed and order for delivery and i ordered an avocado salad and asked for breaded chicken cutlet instead of grilled chicken...they tell me its gonna be 45 minutes from 8:45 when i called and i called them 5 times looking for my order and they said it should be there already and they dont know where it is...the food did not come for over and hour which was 9:57...when my salad came there was no chicken cutlet like i asked and there was no mozzarella in the salad in which was already supposed to be in there...i will never be going back to this location ever again...absolutely ridiculous. dont go to this location. read more

La Bottega is one of my favorite local spots for lunch/dinner. Salads are always fresh with ingredients that are anything but standard; great to share or eat on own as a meal. Paninis are available in 30+ varieties. Soups take a while to come out of the kitchen, but they are homemade and worth the wait. I recommend the pasta fagioli. Prepared a bit differently than you may be accustomed to, the beans are chopped and mashed to give the broth a thick consistency. Daily special menus offer authentic small plates and main courses. Wine list is quite extensive. You can also bring your own bottle and ask your server to cork for a small fee. La Bottega is very reasonably priced, and offers a charming dining experience in a casual setting. read more

When I do order a Panini, I usually go for the Trieste. High quality ingredients packed into a delicious sandwhich, bursting with flavor. I recently used La Bottega on Nassau Blvd to cater a luncheon at my home, after an "unveiling" for my father. Farrah Snyder, their catering manager, met with me and immediately helped me put together a perfect menu for about 30 family members. They delivered 25 different fresh paninis, cut into quarters. I also ordered a delicious bow tie pasta and vegetable dish, a Mozzarella caprese platter with ripened tomatoes and kalamata olives, and a delectable platter of grilled vegetables. Accompanying the paninis was also their famous insalata Di Pere, mixed greens, red pears, Gorgonzola, and tossed pecans with lime dressing. The food was plentiful and phenomenal! Everyone was raving about each dish. To top off the afternoon, I also ordered their fresh fruit platter and 4 pounds of assorted Italian pastries and cannolis. The fruit presentation was incredible, far beyond anything I expected. The chef must be quite artistic! The pastries were lovely to look at and even better to savor! Farrah was attentive, listened to my requests, made excellent suggestions, and was extremely communicative. She truly made the experience delightful. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use them for another catered function. Definitely a five star affair! read more

This place is known for their Paninis and Salads. Really can't get a better Panini anywhere else. They have all different kinds- veggie, steak, chicken, assembled a bunch of different ways. They are always good, however, over the years the prices have gone up and the quality went a bit down--- I'm sure this happened after the franchise. I'm happy West Hempstead has a good selection of restaurants to choose from, this place, Burger Bite and Kumo Sushi are some of my favorites. read more

So Angry!!!! I got after after 11:30 am ordered prato waited 30minutes and then asked where is my order. I was then told the chicken wasnt cooked yet, i then asked why wouldn't they tell me upon ordering . I would have ordered something else. I asked them how long? I had to ask them to ask the kitchen. They told me 10-15 minutes then i asked for a refund manager came out didnt speak to me kept head down handed me money no apology and no eye contact no conversation. HORRIBLE SERVICE. La Bottega also has a huge take out business and we have ordered often (2-3 times/month) for the past several years. My most recent experience was awful! We ordered 3 paninis and chicken strips and fries for my young daughter. When my order arrived about an hour later, my daughter opened her dinner to find only french fries! I checked my receipt and it confirmed I ordered AND paid for chicken strips and fries. I immediately called and it was confirmed that it was a mistake, which would have been ok with me, until I was told to return the fries to the driver! I did not like what was being implied, and when I questioned it, was told it was company policy. What a poor policy, and poor customer service, implying that customers are lying trying to get a free meal? How sad. read more

Good food, awful service. I have had food delivered from here before that was really good, but today I went to dine in for the first time and was extremely disappointed. The girl at the counter told us to take a seat where ever we liked. After sitting down we waited 5-10 minutes for a waiter but no one ever came (we were the only ones in there, not like it was busy.) We got up and asked the cashier if there was even a server and she said "sorry, try going next door." We decided to just leave. I just don't understand what she was thinking; why would she tell us to take a seat if no one was going to help us, why not just tell us to go next door from the beginning? There was an employee outside, I asked him if I could speak to the manager, he said the manager was not there. Definitely a disappointing experience, especially since the food is really good. read more

I ordered takeout from here and asked for gluten free bread instead of regular bread which I know that they have and the girl told me that it needed to be saved for the diners. The food quality varies from day to day. Some days the chicken cutlet is excellent, sometimes it is too dry. The steak is usually on the dry side. I have eaten from this location many many times but about 4 months ago I ordered a Sal salad and an Erin panini and the service was unacceptable. I ordered this for pickup. The girl told me 45 minutes and I understand sometimes restaurants are busy, but when I arrived it wasn't ready yet. Ok, no problem. I sat down and waited... and waited.... another 45 minutes. Altogether it took them an hour and a half to make a f****** salad and a panini which is basically chicken and cheese. Already ticked off, I went to pay for my food and the girl at the counter told me they can't accept credit cards because their system was down. I asked her why she wouldn't tell me that before I ordered my food and she tried assuring me that she did. She did not. Instead I was told to go to the ATM at the Mexican restaurant next door and as everybody knows, atms charge a fee, and that really pissed me off but I was starving and I don't usually like to make a fuss. This was by far the worst customer service situation I had ever encountered. The food was decent but I will never order from this location again. Ordered food last Saturday night, 2 salads. We've ordered from here before and have never had a problem so I do feel bad writing this review but I hope that ownership/management can get involved and make a change. My salad had a black hair in it- laced into the tomato and lying across the lettuce. I noticed it the moment I opened the box and right then and there my mind was made that there was no way I was eating that. I called bottega told them there was hair my food they rushed to make me another one if I came back and got it. Got there - NONE not ONE of the cooks are wearing hair caps! Gross gross gross! I've worked in over 5 restaurants where the cooks are wearing something over their hair when handling food! I hand my salad back to the guy behind the counter and specifically say- "there is a new dressing in here?" he assures me there is, staples the bag shut, I get home open the bag- no dressing. Tisk tisk- stupid mistakes. Luckily my boyfriends salad had the same dressing and he shared with me. Still super grossed out by the hair and not sure if we'll be returning anytime soon.
