I've eaten at this restaurant well over 20 times and the food is fairly good for Peruvian cuisine. However, and it pains me to have to write this because as you can see I don't yelp very often for respect of how difficult it is to maintain and run a restaurant in NYC... The last two times I've been here has been very uncomfortable due to an EXTREMELY rude waitress . Last time I sat to eat lunch I was given nasty responses and intentionally poor / slow service. Then again I just sat down to have lunch and she immediately started rolling her eyes and giving me an attitude at which point I had enough. She said I was rude to her every time I've come in and started yelling. funny part is I sat and waited 25 minutes last time I came to eat and didn't say a word about it. This time, I had enough. There is constant waiter/ waitress turnover in this place so it's safe to assume they can't find quality servers.... this individual included. So the food was delicious but the service was not! We walked in on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. There was 2 tables with customers. One guy at the front and two servers. Restaurant provided incorrect item. When informed, they insisted it was correct. Took the item down to restaurant to show that it was not the same item and was informed they changed their presentation of the item(ordered an chicken empanada and they gave me papa fritas like I couldn't tell the difference). When asked for a refund they refused. This was not the first time my delivery was incorrect. I decided to keep the last order but this one I decided to speak up and they did not satisfy the customer. The food is fairly decent. I think for Peruvian cuisine it is pretty much what you'd expect. The reason I am giving them 2 stars is for terrible service and inconsistency. Every time we order (and we have ordered a handful of times) They forget something. The sauces are always different. They add on strange fees sometimes and other times not. We have ordered take out and that in itself is a convoluted process. The last time we ordered they forgot the avocado in the salad and we were told over the phone that an avocado salad comes with our order. We mentioned it today during our current order and the girl casually brushed us off and said "oh they probably ran out" like whatever ... no big deal... get over it. Customers are not always right. No apologies. Nothing. It was almost like she was angry with us for even asking. We then made the mistake of asking if we could switch our order of tostones for an order of maduros instead. She said they charge a dollar extra for making a change in the order. (We do it every time and they never charged until today) You'd think that after they forgot our avocado the last time, they would wave this sudden "change" fee but instead we got attitude from the girl there ... today was our last time getting food from them the inconsistencies are just not worth the sub par food. The way they got annoyed with us for asking about the avocado and complaining about a fee we were never charged before today was so ridiculous .... rather than try to accommodate their customer.... they probably spit in our food. After my son's graduation we decided to stop here since it was the nearest restaurant. Big mistake!! The waitress was completely horrible. Right from the beginning I noticed she couldn't understand English so I explained it to her in Spanish and she still got the orders wrong! The food was great and tasty but the service was horrendous!! We had to ask for our utensils she didn't bring us water. She even charged us for things we didn't get, it was a complete nightmare. La Cabana Peruana owes me a star. I attempted to place an order on 11.7. 17 and was placed on hold for 8 mins. So eventually I hung up the phone. Today (11/10) I walk in on my way home and it's practically empty. I walked out within 10 mins with an order shy of my flan - - seriously! It's been 68 mins since my first call and nada! Very disappointed, LA Playa may only accept cash, but they at least provide decent customer service. AFTER, two hours, a delivery guy rang my bell. I actually do not see La Cabana, doing well bc they know nothing of going the extra mile for the customer. I was told that the delivery person lost my address - - BS! The shame is that part of a good restaurant experience includes service. La Cabana Peruana doesn't understand that. While the food is tasty, the personnel doesn't get they need to attend to patrons. There is no concern for water, drinks or wait-time. They walk around with out concern for your needs or wants. Never a thought that the patrons are expecting a salad, appetizer or drinks. For this, ill cook at home. Check your bill!! They had the nerve to charge for service ($20 for 3 peeps!!). We got it credited and will not return. Stars??!!! Seriously the best Peruvian chicken in Queens. Not only is the chicken delicious they have a full menu. I suggest you order the Jalea- mixed fried seafood with spicy lime, onion, tomatos and cilantro on top. It is amazing. Good rice and beans too! We found this restaurant after leaving the beach on a July Saturday night. There were plenty of tables and we were seated right away. We got a big dish of Jaleja and tucked in for a wonderful meal. My partner and I love Jaleja, a Peruvian dish of fried seafood, and we've had it at maybe ten restaurants in NYC. My partner says the Jaleja is better than what we get at our usual favorite (Chimu, in Williamsburg). I didn't quite agree but I do think it comes close. And they give you a squeeze bottle of the wonderful green sauce, rather than making you ask for more over and over. This place gets extra points for keeping the music down so people can actually hear each other and talk (on the beach, where we laid our blanket ended up contested territory in a war between classic rock and salsa; we'd had enough of blaring music,and people yelling over it). I am not sure why this place isn't jammed on a July saturday night - very good, hearty, sit-down food, in a relaxed environment with big tables and none of that "Here, this 18-inch square table is for your party of four" crap you get in the affluent corners of the city. As we left we passed by a far trendier place down the block (across from the Italian ice stand), which did not impress us much at all on our one visit, where there were people hanging out front waiting for a table. So I understand that this place closes at 10pm, and I ordered through the phone at 9:15 telling them that I will be coming to pick up my dinner. I barely write bad reviews but this situation left pretty disgusting taste in my mouth... we went to La Cabana Peruana on Sunday with my family to celebrate my grandmother birthday and arrival of my other grandmother. Everything was fine up till we were rushed to get out of the place due to the closing time. My husband brought two bouquets of flowers for my both grandmothers and we happened to forget them at the restaurant (the waitress put the flowers on a different table). I called them the first thing in the morning just to found out the staff threw them out to a garbage! Excuse me? I've been going places for many years but I've never had anyone to do that to us. They know me, I've been coming there many times, they have my phone number in the system (we order from them all the time!!) and nobody could simply give me a call right after we left. I called to speak to someone just solve the problem but all I heard was someone laughing on the phone and then hung up on me. Then I was told to come today at 530 to meet with the owner to solve the issue. I drove for 2 hr from Long Island just to found out there was no owner there waiting for me. When I asked the girl to call him, she told me he's not around and he's not planning on coming today. What?!! Honestly, after coming there for some many years I was expecting to have some sort of respect from people who my family feeds (they don't think twice when they charge 18% tips and we have to get up and get ourselves the water from the fridge). I spent many years working in costumer service and my boss would've fired me if I took care of this situation they way they did. How rude and disrespectful it is to lie to someone's face for days over $30 worth flowers?! The whole Managment treated my family like a garbage and I will never go back there again. So the first night we tried this place we had to walk out. We were informed there was no chicken and wouldn't be for a half hour. How there's no chicken in a Peruvian restaurant at dinner time is beyond me but anyway the next night I didn't feel like cooking so we decided to give them another try and I'm glad we did. Servers at La Cabana try to trick customers into double-tipping them. Yeah, I've been to this place about 5-6 times, and my wife another few times. The food's ok, but the waiters started playing a game where they add the tip on (automatic gratuity) and then let you add your own tip afterward (i.e., on the credit card slip, etc) without telling you they added a tip. I always tip over 20% and never really glanced at the bill at La Cabana -- until the last time, when it seemed high. When I got home, I saw the waiter added on the gratuity and watched me add on another 20% on top of it without saying anything. I CALLED 3 TIMES AND THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT. Originally, I thought, "Maybe a harmless mistake," so I called and asked them to take off the double tip. Nah, the woman who answers the phone kept making excuses ("You have to talk to the owner, he only comes in this one day for a couple hours," etc or "You have to come in for us to fix it"). So when my wife went in to fix it, they still kept making excuses and lying through their teeth. They've got another La Cabana on CrossBay. I'd avoid that one, too, if the place is run like this. My family and I had already eaten here 2 times since they recently opened. The food was very tasty and the Aji(green sauce) was great as well. The decor is very welcoming. My reason for the 3 stars is the CUSTOMER SERVICE. It's nothing worst then a place that serves good food, but the customer service sucks. I ordered 2 entrees to go and the waiter gave me two green sauces, I kindly asked for another 2 considering I had a lot of food and when your dining in you can have a full bottle of green sauce at the table. The waiter told me he would not be able to give me an extra sauce, I even offered to pay for it. Let's just say that turned me off from the restaurant all together.
