Get this! I've lived within 5 mins of this place for 6 years now. I pass it alllll the time. I've heard it's really good for years. And TODAY, I FINALLY tried it! I tried their Mexican Pizza and it was SO GOOD! Our server was the sweetest lady, a beautiful smile, so welcoming, and answered all my questions with patience and grace. Generally I am unthrilled about Mexican food. There's nothing wrong with it- it's quite delicious, actually- but I got burned out on it many years ago as it was the primary food source in Sylmar and San Fernando. Ambience wise, this place was moderately elegant with open seating that felt airy. The service was great! No complaints there. The flautas, which I have never had, and was pleasantly surprised. They had a light, crisp crunch with a moist center. The enchiladas had a unique taste to their bright red sauce that was different from most other's I have. In fact, I tend to stay away from red sauce dishes in favor of green. This was pretty good! For the prices, the portions were great and I didn't feel too stuffed afterward! We tend to forget about this place, off on its own off Harvard past 12th street, until looking for a place in Santa Paula on a Sunday evening after a play at the Santa Paula theater, most importantly with a FULL bar. The food is very traditional, but the medium margaritas are very large, so the large must be fishbowl size. My tasty fish taco Ala carte was plate size as well. The chips and salsa kept coming, and then came the huge combination plates for everyone else. They nicely seated us in a booth for six so we could see and talk together, rather than one long table. Service was very friendly and responsive to all our quirky requests, and boxes were provided for the leftovers of the giant servings. read more

La Cabana is a Santa Paula tradition for many locals. The restaurant has a nice patio, large parking lot and we'll decorated dining area. The menu has most of what you expect to find at a Mexican restaurant, and many more items that are special to La Cabana. All the items my group ordered were judged to be "bueno!". There is a full bar, and the drinks were large and well received. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The business is family run. All in all, a very nice place to dine! read more

My wife has eaten here before, and her regular chili relleño was good. I wasn't so lucky. I tried the chilaquiles (red, w/shredded chicken). These were - by far - the worst chilaquiles I have ever had. There were very few chips underneath and they were beyond soggy. I asked for the eggs to be "sunny-side up", which was a mysterious term the waitress didn't understand (?!!?). She said, "over easy"? I said, no, I like the yolks runny...the cook was as mystified as the waitress. They came more or less hard-boiled, cooked to plastic, requiring a knife, which they didn't provide. I used my wife's. The chicken was good & generous. The queso fresca was, well, no useful part of the dish. I ordered orange juice, which had that dull vitamin taste any victim of crappy OJ will be familiar with. So I got a horchata which was good. I should mention the server was very nice. Not going back. read more

We just came back from there. This is how it went. When we arrived no one greeted us. We stood there for about 5 minutes. That should have been a sign to leave. We finally get a table and it still feels weird being there. We finally order. I got the mango margarita, it was gross, no alcohol at all. Our food came within minutes. It was warm and it smelled funky. Let's just say we took a couple of bites and that was it. $79 later we pay and run out of there hungry. Yes, we had to pay for food we didn't eat. Then turn right onto Harvard Blvd. and drive a little ways and you'll see the restaurant on your left-hand side. If you have reached the Little League baseball field you've gone too far. REVIEW: La Cabana never disappoints. Would definitely heading out to SP and stopping here for lunch/dinner, if you haven't done so already! Now, not to age me too much, but I may have spent many a Friday night here - back in the day - with their fantastic chips and salsa and an adult (cough cough) I mean Virgin Margarita on the rocks, extra salt! This visit was for a lunch with good friends. Our server knows pretty much every customer that comes in. La Cabana treats its customers like family, really and truly. I ordered a Virgin Pina Colada that was really, really good. The whip was falling off the side but no big whoop. The Chicken Flautas have been an iconic stand-by since the good-ole-days. I've been going to La Cabana for over 30 years! Haven't been in a few years since we moved out of town. Went today our lunch and man, what a pleasent surprise!!! The jumbo watermelon margaritas were amazing, the food was just like I remembered. The salad had the little croutons and the chips and salsa were the same. I got the beef and bean tostada and my husband had the jumbo burrito with chile colorado, both tasted like they did years ago. Only bad meal was the chicken fajitas, disappointing, the chicken looked like it was frozen pre cooked and sliced. But, our waitress, Yolanda was the best, what a personality, she had us cracking up!!!! Gonna make a point to drive out there again soon!!! read more

Came in based on their web site stating happy hour Monday-Friday 3-6 pm with 1/2 priced margaritas. Walked in March 17, 2025 at 3:10 pm and said we are here for happy hour(in the bar) and waitress said yes. Ordered 3 margaritas and was charged full price. When I said this is wrong another waitress said happy hour is 4-6 except Taco Tuesday then all day. I showed her the website add and she said she could do nothing as manager not there. Three margaritas $46.55 a rip off. As a new resident of Santa Paula will never go back. read more

Started coming here in the 80's, driving in from Ventura because this was the best. Today was ick. Beef taco tasted like?? Canned ground beef? Off taste with NO seasoning. Ditto on enchiladas. Strawberry margarita tasted yummy but little to no alcohol. They still do well with chips. But $74 after tip for less than mediocre food is a no go back for me So sad. Loved this place for years. Unfortunately I would not go back. The food tasted like it all came out of a can or premade except for the lettuce. The cheese enchilada had no cheese and tasted odd, I couldn't finish it. The beef in the tacos is ground beef with a crunchy premade shell similar to what you'd find at the grocery store. The nachos, if you can call them that, tasted like American cheese with sour cream and whatever the red sauce was you couldn't taste it. The burrito had four chunks of meat, two of which were just fat. Their prices are incredibly expensive for the quality and portion sizes. read more

Where other restaurants lack the charm and hosptiiality, the people who owned this restaurant have maintained a level of confidence and respect amongst their customers and staff that is unmatched in Santa Paula. When you first come into the restaurant, you can see many old pictures and memotibllai of the older days of Santa Paula long since passed but still very relevant to the community of this town. The food was not great. The guacamole had no flavor and needed lime and salt. The actual food wasn't good either. I had a tostada and the shell was soft so all my food just went soggy. The enchilada didn't have sauce throughout; only sauce on the outside. The shredded chicken was too try in both my tostada and enchilada and the whole meal lacked flavor. It wasn't worth repeating. The worst part was the service. Even when we flagged people and waved when we needed a refill or our check, no one looked over at us. Our waiter didn't even bother checking in once to see how we were doing. Then when he finally showed up, he said "I have a big party, that's why I haven't been showing up" which is ridiculous. That's to be expected and part of the job!!! That's not our fault or problem. Either way, I won't come back. It was my first and last time coming. read more

I live out in Canoga Park and I usually drive up to Santa Paula with my neighbor just to visit La Cabaña, which takes about an hour and 15 minutes just to have their Chile Relleno's! Obviously we have a craving for them because they are the best we've ever had anywhere and another item I love is KK's Big Burrito! The kids working there, all have good energy and the management is very pleasant! I also recommend for dessert, the flan made by Angel (Laura makes it really good also) with just the right touch of chocolate syrup, whip cream, and a cherry! It keeps us content for our drive back into LA County If you've never been there before, it's really a nice treat because it's a cozy old school restaurant with a pleasant bar and it's always an enjoyable atmosphere! read more

La Cabana is in an older part of Santa Paula. You'll get to it from Harvard, where you'll see a long continuous wall of stucco and small windows at the corner of 13th St. The parking lot is behind and shows the welcoming beautiful side of the restaurant. We got there just before 5 on a Friday and watched as the place filled up completely with laughing happy people. There are different sections and we got placed in a big back booth with thick walls and beams that served to separate those around us, while still feeling not alone and able to soak in the ambiance. And the ambiance is like dining in the 60s, 70s. Including giant bowl glasses of margaritas. We weren't drinking, but almost everyone had one of those drinks in front of them. The restaurant is supposedly known for their big margaritas. Chips and salsa were great. Old school, it wasn't a chunk fest, more like eatable for the whole family including kids that don't like chunks of tomatoes and stuff with things in it. Again, very 60s, literally bringing back memories of sitting in a booth with my mom and dad, competing for double and folded over chips with my sister, and enjoying them no problem because of the smooth no chunk salsa. The food was mostly pro, one con. Starting with the soup, which we got instead of salad. We got the Chicken soup and Albondigas soup. The Chicken soup was the con. It was just Shredded Chicken, like a lot of it, in an oily spicy broth, like we could have scooped it into tortillas and ate it that way. In fact, my friend had so much left over she brought it home, mixed it with rice and vegetables, and made burritos for her whole family the next day! The Albondigas meatball soup was amazing, literally. My stomach had been painfully grinding and churning, even drinking water, for days. I wasn't even going to eat. The Plan was I'd order, take a couple bites, bring it home, freeze it, then eat it later when I felt better. The meatball soup came with super clear broth and the freshest vegetables I'd ever seen. I relaxed being able to not worry about excess salt, sugar, vinegar, whatever to enhance the taste of old, over processed vegetables. The tone was fresh and I appreciated it, especially being made to order for my gut, so I could maybe actually eat it. I carefully made it thru the wedges of potatoes, onions, carrots, celery and the meatballs, passing the zucchini off to my friend. My tummy was grinding, but accepting the whole time. Then, I got to the very, very mildly spicy broth at the bottom. There may have been some kind of oil in there, not sure what it was, but after taking a spoonful of straight broth everything changed. My stomach not only didn't grind, I felt instant euphoric relief. I tried again and same, my stomach was 100% better! We tried to figure it out after, but all I could come up with was there was some kind of good oil in the soup that greased the wheels of my stomach, keeping it from grinding or something. Whatever it was, I'm calling it magic soup. My friend got the chili rellano, which she loved and I got the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. With a stomach that could now magically handle eating a whole meal, I did, I ate the whole thing, it was soooo good. The tortillas were thick and al dente, and had taste, which coupled nicely with the not too much cheese of the enchiladas. I hate when enchiladas have too much cheese and a thin, soft almost non existent tortilla, so you feel like you're eating just forkfuls of cheese. This was the opposite. I loved the enchiladas. I also don't like tasteless beans and rice, seemingly just there for filler. The beans here had flavor, like they took the trouble to boil in some jalapeños and stuff beforehand, and decades of trial and error created beans with pleasing flavor. The rice was a good backdrop to whatever I wanted to do with it ie eat it plain, add some salsa to the top or put it on the fork with some enchilada and beans. It was a great plate of food. I have enjoyed my visits to La Cabaña more than a few times over the years. This is a family run restaurant that has been in business for quite sometime. The restaurant is a bit of a step back in time in regards to decor and design. Inside does appear dated however that is part of the vibe with old school family recipes. You will have the opportunity to experience their family recipes that fill your stomach and your soul. If you are seeking authentic Mexican food this is not it. This is Mexican-American fare with a home style approach. It is what some might refer to as "whitewashed" but it is pretty tasty California Mexican style cuisine. I appreciate that the food is not over seasoned allowing for personal spice level adjustment. This allows wimps like me to enjoy the food and not feel like you are being set on fire. The service has always been friendly, gracious and efficient. There is a definite family vibe felt from the staff. Whether they are actual family members of the owners or just a restaurant family they all work well together. The camaraderie amongst the staff leaves a positive vibe felt by customers. Not the quality or service that it use to be. Food was the same. We had a party of 12, the waitress brought our drinks (water) and our food and we never saw her again until she brought us the bill. I've been going to this restaurant for over 30 years or more this is the best restaurant that I've ever been to best Mexican food is the freshest that most tastiest authentic Mexican food you can get anywhere nothing out of packages nothing out of cans I read some of the reviews all of them were wonderful, except for one out of maybe 400 and I'm pretty sure it's because they had a bad day. The person not the restaurant this food is delicious. Beyond delicious. The drinks are wonderful. Margaritas will set it off, the service is a one and Anna who just recently retired is the best of the best and I'm pretty sure she had a whole line of women that followed after her. We've been there since then and nothing is changed. It's delicious the ambience is off the chain the music, the atmosphere the people it just couldn't get any better. Good solid Mexican food at a reasonable price. Our group enjoyed the food here on the way to the beach. The chips and salsa was pretty good and they have a hotter salsa available upon request. The portions are generous. My chimichanga was the size of a baby. I named it Jeremy. They do not skimp on meet and the service was pretty attentive although it was a bit slow due to the busyness at times. There is ample parking and it is right off the 126. Worth a stop! read more

They were very poorly cut up. At first we thought it was a mistake. Did a taco somehow fall into our chips? Or maybe they were using old, unused taco shells as chips to get rid of them? Serving them to unfortunate customers hoping they wouldn't notice, just to reduce waste? Is our salsa recycled too?! :'( I hope not.... whatever the reason, it was sad. As for the rest of the food.
