Why is this place so popular? I honestly couldn't tell if their matcha latte or cold-pressed coffee was any better than what you'd find at a random neighborhood coffee shop. The space was extremely crowded, two women across from us were loudly talking on speakerphone the entire time, and there was a long line for the unisex restroom. Yikes.
Very popular cafe in soho. The place was packed on a late thursday afternoon so I can only imagine what peak hours are like, plan on standing or taking your stuff to go. The staff that takes orders seemed really enthusiastic, very personable so that's always nice. Overall I've really only heard good things from people I know who frequent here a lot. A must try is the cardamom bun, but the almond and chocolate croissants are very good too. No complaints, I would come back.
I waited 10 mins on a Sunday morning - I'd wait 40 tasting what I've tasted! The cardamom latte (12 oz) to stay, was truly divine. So smooth, so balanced and perfectly sweet, and light. La Cabra is a well oiled machine and it didn't take too long to get my coffee despite it being packed. I sat at the bar - but there was a high top standing bar, and then a small bench near the front. Booth and table style in the back. Generous amount of seats for a SoHo cafe. My only regret: not getting a cardamom bun and not getting a latte for the road.
Nice coffee shop with a clear Danish aesthetic, though it's not the custom here for guests to clear their table as a gesture of appreciation, as in the Nordics. This led to some less than clean spaces, despite folks waiting along the wall for seats/drinks. Wish I'd have waited for fresh pastries, which came out right after I'd gotten my cardamom bun. Nice place to stop if in the neighborhood.

The coffee itself was very good - I ordered a cortado and my boyfriend ordered a drip coffee with a dash of oat milk. Getting our order seemed a little chaotic as we had to ask the barista which ones were ours and there was *some* confusion. It was $15 for two coffees post tip, so it ain't cheap. The vibe inside is great for meeting with friends and is very modern. Although, I will caution you: it is challenging to get a seat. It's a decent spot for a pick-me-up or sweet treat.

I will definitely pick up more of those buns in my future. I also got a strawberry and toasted milk choux, but the time I made it back home it wasn't a pretty picture to take. All the strawberry center on top had spilled out into the bag. It had the texture of a really soft cookie and after breaking it in half, I actually was not a fan. Although the fruit filling inside was tasty the rest of the cookie was just too mushy and wet for me. Not sure if it was even a cookie but that's what it reminded me of. I wouldn't purchase it again. My overall experience did turn out to be a good one. I would definitely like to stay in on my next visit. It had the busy coffee house vibe where you go to enjoy company and definitely not to go catch up any office work, it was very busy and quite noisy. I will definitely be back for that latte and bun again. Two thumbs up! Happy Yelping!
So fire. We came here every morning on our NYC weekend trip. It was walking distance from where we stayed, and we just really loved it our first time so decided to stick with what we love. The pastries are good, the cold brew is good, the matcha is good. They're all really high quality. We have pretty high standards and these didn't disappoint. I think it says a lot when you're in NYC and have literally a million new places to try, but just keep coming back to a spot. Very solid and delicious. Would 10/10 recommend when in NY. Line was out the door when we came. Moved fairly quickly. Service was good. They definitely know what they're doing in there. Vibe inside is small but clean.
Perks! Perks! Perks! Who doesn't love a perk??? NY Magazine just introduced Perks for longtime NY mag subscribers; each month subscribers are entitled to a monthly perk. This month the perk was a complimentary beverage and cardamom bun from the exquisite bakery La Cabra*. One can visit one of their three NYC locations: Bushwick, East Village and SoHo. All three are appealing to me but today SoHo was the pick. There is a line to get in.. yes folks we are living in the age of rock star bakeries like Radio Bakery, where food connoisseurs know a gem.. My wait was about ten minutes and I looked at the beautiful sweets and savories presented and decided to purchase the ham and cheese croissant for a snack. Sherine took my complimentary order and packed ham and cheese separately. This space was packed: buzzy, vibey and jazzed clientele savoring the delicious options. There is seating at the bar, tables or standing bar. I found a spot at the bar and waited for my iced cardamom latte. I also grabbed complimentary water. The cardamom bun was absolutely amazing: La Cabra's famous cardamom buns feature a distinct spiced dough, a rich butter-sugar filling packed with freshly ground cardamom, and an extra dusting of cardamom-sugar on the outside, practically melts in your mouth. The latte was exquisitely crafted and was a great accompaniment to the bun. 'The famous Cardamom Latte is built with just three core components: freshly pulled espresso, steamed milk (often oat milk at their NYC locations), and a delicate cardamom simple syrup. The syrup adds a sweet, warming, and citrusy-floral aroma that perfectly balances their bright, Scandinavian-style coffee.' The decor is minimalist with soft lighting, wooden tables, floral touches and paintings on the wall. The staff are professional and seem to love crafting and serving top notch baked goods. A couple friends and I checked out La Cabra for a late afternoon coffee during that awkward "after lunch but before dinner" window last Sunday. There was about a 10-minute line, but we were able to snag a few bar stools once we ordered. We picked up a couple bags of beans to try. The La Divina Providencia (a washed El Salvador) with fruity, balanced notes sounded the most interesting, so we got both beans ($28) and a pour-over ($12). It was clean with pretty muted fruit notes. While it was well-executed, it wasn't really my kind of coffee. My friend enjoyed it a lot, so he took that bag, while I went with the Shyira (a 48hr anaerobic Rwanda) with wild, jammy fruit notes. I brewed this one at home, and it's definitely brighter and juicier, but doesn't leave a "woah" feeling. If you're into clean, elegant cups with subtle fruit, La Cabra is a solid option. However, if you're chasing something more funky or crazy, I'm not sure this is the place (based on a few experiences). Honestly, I enjoy their pastries more than their coffee. I visited the La Cabra and they have a long line but it did move quickly. They have seating but the spots fill up quickly. The flat white and strawberry and toasted milk choux was very yummy. I would love to visit again! read more

First of all it smells wonderful in here. And the coffee and pastries are absolutely delicious. Great music, great atmosphere. High energy too, as the line is always out the door but I promise it moves fast. Will definitely come back! read more

The cardamom bun was the best I had on my recent trip. My husband had the almond croissant. Everything was fresh, buttery, flavorful and delicious. Good coffee too. I'd go again, even with the line, it did go fast! read more

I get the hype. To be clear - this review is specifically for the La Cabra in the Soho location. The vibe is novel. It's modern but warm. Seating was tough to find, but I made it happen. Great presentation and quality coffee. Croissant texture was notable. Flavor was expected (not exceptional). Am eager to try their other pastries. Loved the staff and culture they had going. read more
The cardammom bun is a must order!! Truly is the best I have ever had! The coffee isn't my favorite personally but it's still good. My friend has gotten their hot chocolate and also really liked it! The service is always very nice and quick. There is a lot of space in the coffee shop with some seating - some table and some bar seating available. I came on a weekend and it was absolutely packed so there was no where to sit and I have also been right around when they opened and it was still busy but were able to get a table about 20 minutes once we arrived. I wouldn't expect finding a seat but you can definitely get lucky, and regardless highly reccomend!! read more

Tried the Pain Suisse pastry which had an excellent crisp on the outside and balanced vanilla / chocolate flavor but did leave me wanting more of that filling especially for the price. Got an Ice Matcha Latte with Oatmilk too which was not sweet at all but I really enjoyed it! Super high quality because I don't usually enjoy unsweetened matchas. read more
I hate waiting in lines and would just pass but I'm glad that the line was shorter (def got a loooooot longer behind me) and that I didn't pass. The turnaround was quicker than I thought too. The look was very modern and minimal on the inside and definitely not a lot of seating for all the guests that pass through, therefore many people just take out. I got lucky and found a spot to sit. Their pastry was so delicious and the perfect amount of sugar where it wasn't overwhelming. Their drinks seemed like their baristas knew the artistry of crafting drinks although to be honest, the pastry was more appetizing. I'd totally stop by again if I'm in the area and the line isn't as long as I've seen it be!! read more

Ok. let's begin with the space....8.5/10. One of the nicer coffee shops in Brooklyn. Great for dates, catch ups, and people watching. Having more working space would be nice...I didn't go upstairs so the working space magic might have been up there. Service is great. 9/10. Baristas find you and bring your drink to you. No one is yelling out your government name for the world to hear. Now to the coffee...it was okay. 8/10. By no means i'm I a coffee snub but it wasn't anything I couldn't get in another coffee shop. One of the coffee snubs can check me on this after reading. read more

Good drinks and pastries in the SoHo area! On a rainy weekend afternoon, there was a line forming outside to order at the counter in the front. My friends and I ordered a couple of pastries, while I tried their Iced Chai Latte. I like how the counter where everything is made is in the center, and customers can view the process of how their drinks are made from literally every angle. My chai latte came in a minimalistic cup with minimalistic text, giving similar vibes to the neutral/beige theme of the cafe. Although the latte is a bit pricey, I enjoyed the taste of it and it paired well with the different pastries my friends and I tried! We were not able to find seating in the area for the time we were there, so we took our pastries and drinks to-go. read more

La Cabra has very cool vibes and aesthetic, amazing spot for a morning routine (a coffee and a pastry, what a perfect way to start one's day). The pain au chocolate was super flaky and crispy. The chocolate inside was dark and rich. So many layers inside! Delicious. The blood orange & chocolate cookie was very nice. Hilariously photographs as bologna-esque lol (unfortunate or intentional?). The flavors combined well and were smooth together. Rich chocolate and tangy orange work well as you imagine. The latte was so dreamy. It was rich, thick, and bold. It was a legit good latte. It had lovely presentation and was so smooth to sip on. The matcha latte was just ok though, it was more on the milky side and I could barely taste the matcha flavor (I like a dose of strong matcha). The whole vibe of the cafe was very calm and I loved the plates and cups used in the setting. Totally worth the prices imo. It's the whole experience executed perfectly. read more

Dare I say this is one of the best pastries I've ever tasted. It's like if Auntie Anne's met a Danish bakery and made the most beautiful thing you could eat. The cafe itself has an open bar concept, which I love, and baristas who know exactly what they are doing. I cannot recommend this place enough for those coming to NYC. read more

I was in SoHo during the passage of my travels with an empty stomach as I did not have the interest for lunch, but decided a pastry to temporary sustain my hunger pangs until dinner. This coffee/tea eatery business was very hustling busy on a Sunday October afternoon at peak lunch hour. The baristas were hustling busy concocting various genres of coffees. It appears very popular as there was a line forming which spewed outdoors. The is a modest amount of pastries in the glass encasement that appeared very appealing- but taste for the exorbitant price is another perspective. La Cabra is a modern coffee shop. Despite of the abundant seating, there were little to none available since it was peak lunch hour. I decided to stand near the baristas counter but was abruptly evicted with utter disdain by one of their male baristas with a unfathomable nefarious plot character. Round two: I sat briefly by the exit where there are minimal bench ledge seating with infinitesimal small counter acting as a table which skilled trade carpenters did a good job with bench tables. This business has a sketch of a cow eating grass as their logo. Customers can purchase their coffee, mugs, apparel of caps and tote bags. No comment on the coffee as I did not order. Price for pastry and coffee are extortionate exceedingly high and NOT worth emptying your bank account for exaggerated coffee and average pastries. I suggest take your pastries for the go during peak hours. Customer service is utterly curt, dismissive in a robotic stolid disposition matter. No compassion. No empathy. I took my bag with my petticoat jacket and exited with utter despondence. I am human. I am one life in the smallest measurement. I am a person with a name. Croissants Pain Au Chocolat, $6.50 It was very greasy and full of oil as my hands were greasy. It is very crispy on the outside falling apart into flakes when bitten. It was baked to a nice crisp and tasted fresh. The chocolate is extremely paucity for minimal. One word: frugal. For this extortionate exceedingly high price of one measly chocolate croissant - certainty NOT worth emptying your bank account as to fulfill your breakfast/brunch meal. La Cabra uses Square Register as their paperless cash register, thus, no printed sales receipt will be printed but can only be either texted or emailed. read more
Came here ~9:30am on a weekday and this place was bustling! Tons of people and families enjoying coffees and pastries but we still managed to miraculously get a table. There are signs posted inside that this isn't a cafe where you can chill around with a laptop or a book for an hour or two (or more) so we courteously devoured our pastries quickly and headed to our next destination lol. Got their famous Cardamom bun and really enjoyed the flavor and texture of the pastry. The flavor is not too strong but you can definitely taste hints of Indian spices. I was a bit hesitant in forking over $6 for such a small bun but it's fairly dense and compact so full of substance. Overall, loved the cardamom bun and vibe of this place! read more
I've never waited in line for coffee before until I went to La Cabra. Definitely worth the wait. Coffee was delicious, staff were friendly. It's a very cute coffee shop & by far my favorite place to grab coffee in NY when visiting. read more
I liked the iced latte, it had a pretty strong espresso flavor. I also liked that the cardamom bun was so light and fluffy, but to me the spice was a bit overpowering. Overall the staff are extremely friendly, and they are fast with your order. I like the interior of the cafe - it is good for both studying and chatting with friends. read more
Perfect cup of coffee for a middle of the day pick me up! I stopped in for a cappuccino and a pain au chocolat and both were stellar. There was a bit of a line but it moved pretty quickly. The staff was very friendly and know how to make a great cup of coffee. Some room to sit but good luck getting a table - you may have to time it just right! read more

My croissant was so flaky and sweet, it paired well either my unsweetened matcha. I didn't realize prior to coming home limited the options would be here. They only had simple syrup and the 2 milk options are oat milk and whole milk. Personally i like a sweet coffee, but I'd go back again for a pastry! read more
