been coming here for 25 years, so i thought its about time i write a review. this place is a torrance staple. anyone who grew up in torrance or the south bay knows la capilla. have the prices gone up? yes. that's with anything. have the portions gotten smaller? honestly not really!! has the service changed? NOPE! i don't even think the staff has changed! i've been knowing these people since i was a kid and they're still here. la capilla is the definition of a mom and pop hole in the wall mexican restaurant. and that's part of the charm and what makes it so amazing. you start off with fresh chips and home made salsa. after all this time it's still the best red salsa out here. the menu is full of authentic mexican dishes. there's something for all ages and tastebuds. i love: chile verde, arroz con pollo, mini tostada, carnitas burrito, tortilla soup, and machaca just to name a few things. i could get one of everything if my tummy allowed!! when you come eat here, you are coming for the vibes. you feel like family even if it's your first visit. everyone here is genuinely happy to be working and you can tell. the food is made with such love. idk what i would do if they shut down! i have so many memories here as a kid. i've been here with family, friends, and even solo. my husband and i had our first date here, and he also came here often as a child. it's one of those places where, even if it's not nostalgia for YOU, you can tell this place is rooted in family and culture and tradition. no, it's not a fancy steakhouse. but it's not meant to be. come by and taste for yourself why this place is so historic and special. a cup of tortilla soup is a MUST!!!! :) read more

Incredible service! The team here works in total harmony. We felt so welcomed--true "home-style" hospitality. The Food: My husband loved it, and my toddler devoured the Asada Taco Mexicano. The Kids' Menu: Very large portions! Just a heads-up if your kid is picky: the shredded tacos come with a lot of lettuce, so you might want to ask for them "street style" (cilantro/onion) or plain. I have been coming here for the last 25 years and it has not changed much. Unfortunately the prices have gone up a lot but so has every thing else. I remember coming here for their lunch specials which were under $9.00. My family still picks this place as our go to Mexican restaurant not only for the taste but for their friendly service. Some of their waiters and waitresses have been there for over 30 years. We also really love their salsa that has not changed. My go to is garlic shrimp or carnitas extra crispy. read more

This is a place that has been a La Palma gem forever. We have been going for years and years. The inside is a traditional style Mexican restaurant. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. There can be a little bit of a wait but it is never ridiculous. Chips and salsa hit the table shortly after you're seated, the salsa is a chunky style, not particularly my favorite but very good still. Full bar and the drinks are delicious. From margaritas to mixed drinks and cold beer, a must have is there Cadillac Margarita. The menu has a great selection of Traditional Mexican dishes. I have way too many to list but 1 for sure is the Chili Verde. Definitely worth trying and good chance it will make one of your go to Local Mexican spots. WoW, our 1st time here and this will definitely be our Go To Spot for Mexican food from now on!! When we got here we could see they were busy and took that as a good sign. We were greeted by a friendly host and seated right away. Someone then brought complimentary water, chips and salsa to our table. We liked that we each had our own salsa and OMGee, the salsa is amazing! We wound up putting it on everything! Our server (Jorge) came and took our order and checked on us throughout our meal. I ordered the Carnitas Enchiladas Plate (yum super cheesy) with a side cup of albondigas soup. The soup could've been its own meal, there was so much packed in there. Husband ordered a Chili Relleno / Taco Plate. Each meal came with rice and beans. We both enjoyed our food, everything was delicious. We'll be back again! read more

This joint used to be in our weekly rotation but since the move, we haven't visited in months. Wifey and I missed the overall vibe and culinary experience! Such wonderful service. Came here on Tuesday. Our table servers which was a male and female were excellent. Both so warming and quick. The host was also very nice. Sat us quickly. We were given water and salsa immediately. Our food came out nice and hot. It was so good. The salsa and guacamole were overwhelmingly delicious. We couldn't get enough. The guacamole was so flavorful and creamy. I hate lemon taste in my guacamole and there was none. My tea was good too. My hubby ordered a Roy Roger's. I needed something warm for this cold weather. This restaurant is so much more updated than the Torrance location. Both have home feelings. They feel so comfortable. We had a great dinner. Sometimes we just need nachos lol. 01/17/25 My oh my! Portions are huge. First off, let me talk about the tortilla chips and salsa! Chips were brought out so warm. The salsa had a perfect spice to it. It was sooo good and a great start to our meal. We ordered chicken flautas, carne asada burrito and half order nachos supreme. Chicken flautas: 2 big pieces. Came with refried beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream. The chicken and rice didn't have a lot of flavor but the crunch on the flauta was absolutely everything. 5/10 Carne asada burrito: Came with refried beans. My hubby said it was okay. He gave it a 7/10. Nachos supreme: This was very flavorful. We ordered it with carne asada. My daughter wanted a half order because she wasn't that hungry and it was still huge. Between the 3 of us, we barely made a dent in it. 10/10 I would definitely order this again. Our waiter and waitress were very attentive and nice. The restaurant is huge and open. My favorite type of fajitas are the ones that come out sizzling! Came in for a quick dinner on a Friday night and was able to be seated promptly within the cantina area. The food is delicious! Service is pretty good and it's always busy. Haven't been in a little while but I've been several times before.

We've been coming to this place for over 30 years and it was always a favorite of ours. I do have to say the last two or three times I've been, I have not left happy. It is a very cute place and the service is really good, but I've noticed a change in their red sauce. It isn't a good change. There's a kind of spice or seasoning to it, almost like a pumpkin. That said they do have some of the best tortilla soup I've ever had, and I'm fine with those items that don't have the red sauce on it. The different margaritas are also absolutely awesome! This is a place that's kind of tradition for us, so I imagine we'll continue to go back again and again. I'm just won't be ordering anything with the red sauce on it, which is a shame because I love cheese enchiladas with red sauce. read more

We ended up killing a whole bowl of chips and a Margarita each before ordering I had a strawberry margarita and he had the purple margarita. I liked mine him not so much. I had lunch w my husband today. I was so hungry and ordered chicken soup, enchilada plate, my hubby got 3 taco plates w margarita. The chips and salsa were always good. The foods are served w hot plates, huge portion to eat one more day....haha. My first chicken soup has lots of carrots, celery, white chicken meats. Very mild and homey flavor. I had enchilada, one chicken, one beef. Huge Huge, enchilada covered w lots of cheese accompanied w beans, sour cream, and rice. Soooo good, my stomach was filled so quickly. Happy lunch time!! We were nearby and decided to stop by . We had a party of 8 on a Saturday and were able to be seated right away so that was nice . I also liked that when we were seated we had water , chips and salsa already at the at table . I didn't like how the salsa was full of onions , like insane amount . They did keep the chips and salsa coming without asking . The service was great 3 stars for the service . The food wasn't so great . Too much cheese and not enough flavor . I was so disappointed in my carne asada plate . It was so fat , like a regular steak instead of a Mexican flat one . They also didn't have an jugos/ aquas . It was a Mexican restaurant that was kinda American , idk it was weird . I wouldn't go back , not only bc we live far In OC but bc we didn't like or finish the food . Came here with a friend on a Wednesday night with a friend and I was fascinated by the interior design of place. It was decently busy that day but me and my friend were seated immediately upon arrival. I ordered the arroz con pollo and tortilla soup. I've got to say, though the place is nice, the food does not live up to the expectations. The arroz con pollo tastes like your typical fast food but worse and all the ingredients did not compliment each other well. I eventually lost my appetite. Same goes for the tortilla soup. There seemed to be a Friday night rush when I got there, I tried calling in for takeaway but didn't get through but the gentleman who took my order did give me a 7 minute wait time. It was a short wait overall and I came home with what felt like two pound for each plate of food! I got the combinations : - hard taco with chicken plus one Chile relleno about $20 - two enchiladas special for $12.95 your choice of meat or cheese - again got chicken . If you look at my photos you'll be asking where's the enchiladas or Chile relleno?!?!? Each plate came with a huge amount of refried beans and Mexican rice topped with massive amounts of melted cheese. Food is alright, maybe I'm just used to having smaller tacos and plates elsewhere. Chicken was tender, cheese was melty and chips were freshly made it seems. It's an interesting restaurant: a huge mural with a scene in a kitchen welcomes you, and a very cool wrought iron chandelier hangs over the entrance. Lots of Mexican tile on floor. Today is my first visit here near my home. I was wondering why so many customers were eating outdoor on weekends. I got there for late lunch w my wife. Very quiet inside the restaurant and I liked the Mexican interior. First, the menu is a huge selection. Hard to choose the entrée. But I like more taco so ordered the crispy shredded beef tacos w magarita. The server was so friendly, I felt so comfortable. When I had first bite, I say this is the best taco. The shredded beef is so tender. The chips and salsa were great. My wife got only one chicken flauta w magarita. She liked the quality and taste. We ordered kids quesadillas, enchiladas racheros and burrito and asked meat to be removed meat from them The food was quite good and quantity is humongous. Order carefully to reduce wastage of food. The food is no longer the same, I ordered the pollo ranchero plate, the rice had didn't have any flavor, no beans come with the plate, pollo was not cut up then we realized it was not what we ordered didn't want to wait got a to go box and left.
