My go to spot for Cuban food in Miami. I'm sure there's better but for a quick fix, it has everything I want. The guava pastries alone make it worth it. The service is pretty fast and good. The chicken noodle soup possibly is just canned with pieces of meat but it works for a cheap price. The plantains are yummy! This place is one of the key places of when you visit Miami. It has the true Cuban feel to it and it reflects off in its food. Decent Cuban food. The staff was friendly. I ordered a tortilla plate with shrimp, potatoes, and cheese, thinking it would be a quesadilla style dish but turns out it's more of an omelette style dish. Pretty decent and homely place. We got the Cafe Con Leche, which was sweet and tasty. For my entree, I got the Fried Chicken Chiccarones, which were 5-6 pieces of fried chicken, along with rice and vegetables. Even though these were pretty good and better than standard fried chicken places like KFC or whatever (-__-), I didn't feel like it was the correct choice. Something more ethnic would have been more appropriate and satisfying I think. For appetizers, we also shared Yuca fries (which were excellent), as well as Tostones (excellent as well). We were driving around Miami as we were about to head out to the Everglades but it seemed like every place we were trying to eat at were either closed or needed to have a reservation. We settled on eating at this place which is like a Cuban Mom and Pop shop. They have a to-go section and they have a dine-in section as well where you can pick up some empanadas, croquettas or any baked goods. Parking is free in their lot. Food Tamale Porridge - Ground Tender corn soup Cooked with Pork Meat. Chicken Noodle Soup Roast Pork - Marinated with Cuban Mojo and Slow Oven Roasted. Served Boneless with Moros Rice and Sweet Plantains. "Calle Ocho" Sandwich - Club Sandwich on Cuban Bread . Served with Plantain Chips. Nothing too special with the place but we did enjoy the Tamale Porridge. This is definitely a place where you can get a quick and cheap eat. We came here for dinner. We weren't impressed. I'm not sure if this is authentic Cuban food or not. I'll have to investigate later on. But we didn't like the food much. We just had milkshakes. I had the Ceviche but i didn't care for it. My hubs had the ajillo shirmp. All that butter can just give you a heart attack! A plus that there the restaurant has a parking lot. We had a coffee (cordito?) when we left the restaurant. On the way to the parking lot they have a window that serves cuban coffee and pastries. Cafe La Carreta is legit authentic Cuban food. I'm half Cuban, half Mexican, first generation and I refuse to frequent Cuban restaurants because they don't hold a candle to my dad, Tia or Tio's cooking, but damn. Food orgasm all the way. Meaty with various beef and pork but it is worth it. You need to come here and or Versailles (across the street) if your visiting. Was in the mood for some Cuban food so I came here for dinner. I walked in and was greeted by a nice young lady and was seated right away. Service was okay. My waiter couldn't speak English so it was a bit of a challenge to place my order. Good luck trying to communicate with them there they all happen to speak little to no English. He brought out the bread with garlic sauce which is LIFE!!! I must've been really hungry to eat 2 baskets of bread before my entree came out. That's how good it was lol Prices are reasonable and the food was delicious. I ordered the snapper fillet and it satisfied my hunger. Went here based on a tip from the valet at the hotel. This place is really good. Had the cervice, which I found to be a little too salty. Also had the Ropa Vieja which was fantastic. The sweet plantains where amazing. The menu was extensive and everything looked great. read more

after being gouged in south beach during art basel week, we went here at a barrista's recommendation. it was in little havana which we wanted to check out anyway with google maps leading the way. found parking right by the giant chicken out front and was seated immediately. the place was full with locals and 'real people'. a refreshing shortage of douche. we ordered the roast pork with beans and rice and plantains and the roast chicken with yellow rice and plantains. we were told that the chicken soup here is also excellent but portions are big so we skipped it. i dont know much about cuban food but seemed pretty authentic! the waitress spoke to me in spanish the whole time. good thing i'm a good reader of body language and grew up in manila. heh definately coming back the next time i'm in miami! read more

One just can't go wrong with La Carreta! Breakfast here the other day. I've been coming to La Carreta since I was a university student in the 80's and every time I pass by the big chicken on the outside, I know I'm in for some good cuban cookin' on the inside. The cuban breakfast at $5.95 is a steal: 2 eggs, ham croquettes, potatoes, cuban bread, bacon or sausage and american coffee, cuban coffee or cafe' con leche. While some of the waitstaff do not speak English, it's very easy to order if one doesn't speak Spanish. This is the center of Little Havana after all! Spoke to the manager and he said it was a very big mistake. The Mojo is not something to hoard lol but now I'm happy and I can honestly say that Aida, Sonia, and the male waiter that is awesomely bald are the best :) the food makes me feel like my grandma is in the back cooking. Took a few Cuban food 1st timers here as I recognized the name from the Miami airport. Everyone enjoyed the experience. Staff was very friendly and service was fast. Highlight may have been the plantain chips and the mojo dip. 2 of us had the sampler platter which was huge and cheap. Didn't drink here, but looks like 2/1 drinks are available quite often. Food was pretty good, but honestly nothing special. I had the pallea and while it was good, there was one muscle and one steamed clam. They were generous with the calamari and the shrimp. Very yummy Cuban food!!! My first time in Miami, and of course my first time here. Great staff, very friendly! Another customer who was waiting for his to go food, recommended I get the black beans w/my order. I did, and I sure was not disappointed. One of the staff members recommend flan de coco w/cafecito.
