First visit at La Carreta supermarket! Rumor has it that they have the best tamales, even though it was 4 o'clock and they ran out, I purchased some Chile relleno prepared as a true traditional Mexican dish consisting of a roasted poblano pepper. It was delicious. The sweets I purchased were fresher and more like my visits to Porta Nueva Mexico, when I used to enjoy the food there. Everyone was super nice, and they gave me the opportunity to practice my Spanish. The environment was truly authentic, a multicultural experience. I plan on going there earlier, to pick up some beef and pork tamales, they must be so good because like I mentioned prior, they ran out! read more

Absolutely despicable management here. I had a tattoo appointment on the other side of the parking lot, so I parked towards the very far end of the lot, near the tattoo shop. I was not impeding their business in any way and parked on the very far end of lot on purpose. Despite my car being nowhere near any high traffic parking spots for their business, someone from this market called to tow my car (and seemingly only my car) for God knows what random reason. There are dozens of open spots in this lot, and they called to tow my car at 5 pm. I had only been parked there for a couple of hours, and I see a notification from my car app that my car alarm is going off and I see my car getting towed on the camera mid tattoo session. I had to run outside with plastic wrap on my leg to try and get my car back. I called the towing company listed on the sign, and they said this market called them and signed paperwork to have my car towed and gave me some BS reason saying that my car had been parked there for more than one hour. There is NO signage that says one hour parking. The signs in this lot say "Customer's Only" and "No Overnight Parking." Apparently someone working here thinks they're some sort of parking police and the entire parking lot belongs to them to power trip and inconvenience people supporting local businesses in the complex. Absolutely infuriating that I had to waste 3 hours to get my car back, which was towed for no reason. I have parked here several times for tattoo appointments and have not had an issue until yesterday, (02/08/2026). Thankfully my tattoo artist was understanding and waited for me to get it resolved before staying late to finish my tattoo. Edit: The business owner replied to my review, however that contradicts what the towing company said over the phone when I called them and asked why they're towing my car when I'm a customer in a business near the area I parked. The towing company said that they would not tow any cars without an authorized signature from one of the businesses, and they told me on the phone that signature came from "The Market, La Carreta." They said someone first noticed my car at 3 pm, and then called the tow around 5 pm. Today, went to store. Very few people inside. Last week store was open but cashier said closed At 2p and they had to shut down. This made me wonder why? Today, The cashiers would not help bag groceries. This seems odd since they check you out then just stand there or start texting on phone. Why wouldn't the cashier help customers?!! Everything about this place is terrible! Customer service sucks! My mom purchased some vitamins and got the wrong ones and when she tried returning them they said they couldn't refund or exchange. Customer service is terrible. My parents and I already had all our groceries on the band and as soon as the cashier finished with the customers in front of us (mind you we already had all our groceries on the band) he told us he was closed and could not help us anymore. When we told him he could have told us before we put all of our goods on the band, he informed us he was just doing what he was told by his manager and when we told her it was inconsiderate what she told him to do, she practically ignored us. I swear I tried giving it another chance they just make it so hard. We no longer live as close as we used to but it's still closer than our go to Mexican grocery store. We've found our favorite cheese here & will stop by for it if in the area. Upon stopping by for the cheese once we walked around and found some Asians snacks which we were excited about but only to find out they were expired. Ok find don't need the snack. Found out they have stuff to make chicharrón & such so took at look at the items for the set up & thought maybe so I went to check on the manteca & it had a dead spider on it. So after visiting this spot, I realize I've been overpaying for fruits and veggies at Albertsons' across the street. The prices are at least 50% off what I normally pay, and to be honest it's the same stuff! Maybe some plums or limes have some imperfections but all is edible and equally amazing to me and you can find exotic fruits you normally couldn't find in an albertsons chain, or if you do find them, they are over priced. I also love the piñatas hanging on the ceiling. They have a food court type area with already made salsas and Mexican food. The gauc is fresh and made to order. Oh and eggs are wayyy cheaper!! Staff is friendly and efficient, I've never had to wait in a long line. read more

I have always supported smaller markets especially in today's time. I will avoid the local Albertson's, Stater Bros and Northgate to give this place my business. Even though their food and produce is not the best I stood by my beliefs. Last night I did a quick stop with my service dog who is small and very trained. As I was checking out the cash register attendant let me know they do not allow animals. Please note I have been coming to this market for over 5 years with my same dog and never have had issues. I let her know I am aware but my dog is a service dog. She said "O si ensename los papeles" to which I let her know legally she cannot ask me for that documention and I will not be presenting it. She then calls her manager over the intercom. At this point my dog is sitting there, has not barked or made any commotion, I went between simply leaving but decided to stay and finish my transaction knowing this will be the last time I do business with them. When the manager shows up, she sees me and my dog standing there, the cash register attendant fills her in on the fact that I have a service dog and that I let her know she cannot ask me for documention. The manager simply says "esta bien" and walks away. The manager was aware of the laws protecting me and my service dog. The cash attendant was not triggered to do any of this and didn't have to bring awareness to me and my service dog. Please avoid this establishment and take your business to the Northgate or State Bros down the street. read more

The workers have always been nice and friendly, but this supermarket is starting to go down in quality and fast. , the tortillas don't taste the same, not sure if they are using different cheaper ingredients but they don't taste like they used to, they taste like the nasty mission tortillas you get at Albertsons or any other market. The hot food kitchen food was bland, no flavor and the refried beans had old burn char chunks in it so I didn't eat them. The chips next to the fresh tortillas I bought last time were not crunchy they were full of oil and undercooked. And not to mention the many times I've gone and found expired items on shelves and in fridge foods, last week I was there I went to grab the ballpark hot dogs and they had expired two weeks before, I mentioned it to the cashier who looked embarrassed but it's not his fault. Every department should have someone working at all times, to keep the quality fresh of everything in stock. It's obvious management is sleeping on the job or maybe no one wants to work anymore, Hire more people and keep the food fresh LA CARRETA!! Only decent thing is the pan dulce and veggies/fruit. Despite me asking how their day is or just trying to spread a little kindness, I cannot count the amount of times their women staff have been so rude not only to me but others. The most disgusting grocery store i have ever been to. It appears that no maintenance or upgrades have been done in over 30 years. The ceiling tiles are collapsing from a leaking roof and infested with mold. The produce displays are rusted out and leaking. We were feeling adventurous on Sunday and looking for something to do and out of the blue, we decided to see where El Toro Road would take us, we know that if you take it in one direction it'll end up at Laguna Beach but where does it take you in the other direction? So we decided to try it out and lo and behold, El Toro turns into Santiago Canyon which turns into Chapman and before you know it you're in the city of Orange. As I watched in amazement, I also noticed another La Carreta location. A few months ago, I had visited the location in Anaheim thinking that was the only closest place for cheap sweet bread but hey, I can now head up El Toro for 15 minutes and it's about a $1 more but with more varieties. This grocery store is pretty fantastic. I've never seen such cheap prices for produce; it's practically a steal and everything is made fresh daily - everything from salsa, tortilla, tortilla chips, baked goods, etc. You can smell it as you walk in. I came in for my sweet bread fix and loaded up on the pinwheels, horns, and this pound cake like cupcake that almost looks like corn bread but it's not. I got 9 pieces for $4. That would have cost me a lot more at Efren's in Lake Forest since it's a little more pricier there. I just got my sweet bread on Sunday and it's almost all gone but I know I'll be back since it's not too far off of El Toro. I love this shop but parking is a little tricky here since the white lines have all but disappeared and the rest is sort of in shambles and people just haphazardly park in whatever direction they want to which makes it weird. You can park near the cell phone stores where the parking situation is a little better and walk over. read more

I took a quick jaunt here last weekend to see my options in my new neighborhood. I was satisfied an happy to find a couple Mexican markets nearby. I needed a couple things from La Carreta to complete the evenings BBQ. One could easily get lost among the fresh, handmade tortillas and carne. I love that La Carreta is huge and clean. I'll probably do my regular shopping here seeing as they really have everything that a chain grocery store has plus a Cocina with cooked meats. I grabbed a pound of costillas to have for lunch. They were good but they don't compare to the ones from El Toro in Santa Ana. One thing I really needed was a comal to heat my tortillas. La Carreta didn't really have one, just a small griddle and some large pots for stews and beans. Oh well, I'll just hit up La Mirada swap meet for that. Since I was in and out pretty quickly, I didn't get to explore other areas like the produce. Next time I will and I'll also grab some carnitas and chicharrones. read more

This is where I usually shop and never spend too much! Meat, produce, fresh Mexican bread/tortilla, etc Veggies are seriously half or a third of the price they sell at Albertsons. You can even find kale now for $.99 a bunch. Service is good and they always greet you. The only thing that would take me back to other supermarkets is organic milk and better deli meats (some are presliced here and dont feel as fresh) but this is definitely the place to go for cheap, good groceries! read more

Get this: 3 lbs of LIMES for 99 cents...while across the street at Albertsons it's 2 for a dollar. Come here to get your Mexican groceries. Don't bother buying a pound of chicken from the store to make your own chicken tacos, it's cheaper to buy it pre-seasoned from the counter. I got 1.5 lbs of chicken taco meat for $3. Then head over to the deli counter in the front and grab your pico de gallo, salsa verde and ceviche and you have yourself a whole meal for under $12. Just watch out when they ring you up for produce. Sometimes they accidentally mix it up and charge you the cherry price for a 4 lb watermelon. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would . I went in yesterday 3/15 around 940pm. I normally don't shop here but with all the stores being cleaned out I decided to see if they still had some items available. When I was checking out the cashier scanned the item (Nido powdered milk) and it came up as $12.99. She then called the manager or owner to override the price because according to her the right price was actually $23.99. I know this is not true because never have I paid that much for that brand of powdered milk. It is really unfair and selfish for that store to raise prices almost double just because of the situation rite now. Because of the Hispanic population that goes there, they think no one will notice or say anything about it . Please report this store if it has been done to you! Went here on the way home from a friends house 1/21/18 between 730-830, But never again! I went to the meat counter to ask for my order and there was a girl mopping the floor. I found it odd, but thought maybe she would call for help. Not at all! I asked if I could get some meat and to my surprise she proceeded to set the mop aside, grab a plastic bag and ask "how could she help"; this with the exact gloves on she was moping the floor with!!!!! I told her nevermind put the meat my husband previously asked for back and told her we would go elsewhere rather than risk contamination of our food. I wanted to say how Impressed I was with your cashier Stephanie. She was so warm and inviting and very personal with the customers and I thought that was such a great asset in today's issues. She looked tired but it didn't affect her great demeanor at all! I found the shelves stocked with beautiful meat and lots of fresh meat in the butchers area. They were making fresh tortillas and had plenty of toilet paper. This was my first time there and I was truly impressed with all the fresh vegetables and barrels of pinto beans and was able to get rice as well! My daughter had been there earlier in the day and stocked up as she has 6 young kids and neither of us had been able to find supplies at Staters or Albertsons. I think what was so impressive is Stephanie remembered me when I went in 3 days later when I brought a friend in to show how wonderful the store was. She said I couldn't believe your daughter the other night had 6 kids and she looks too young! Thank you so much for having an amazing store and such a delightful employee as Stephanie! Bought some masa from here and once I got home I noticed it was rancid. Tried to get a refund, and I understand that might not be possible because of COVID-19 restrictions, but tell me why when I was speaking to the person in charge of that department, one of the employees, a young girl around the ages of 18-20, kept interrupting the conversation with sarcastic and petty remarks? Aside from that, the man kept saying that I was the only one that wanted to return it, which meant everyone else that bought it today didn't have a problem. If I noticed that the masa was RANCID, shouldn't that bring concern? Just because I am the first to notice it because I have over 20 years of experience working in restaurants, does not mean that it's okay to sell rancid masa. The man of that department and another coworker then proceeded to take their masks OFF and open other bags of masa, then stuck their pinkies into the bag to taste the masa. I was then told to take my own mask off to ALSO stick my finger into a bag and taste and smell it. During a pandemic an establishment is asking their customers to take off their masks within the store in order to belittle them and prove that they're wrong? The whole point was that they should have AT LEAST investigated that their masa was in fact not all rancid like mine was. So I had an employee around 18-20 years old belittle me when I was not speaking with her, and had her 2 supervisors take their masks off and stick their fingers into the products. Terrible place! I only come here when desperate and too busy to drive to Santa Ana for my Mexican produce. This place is dirty. Prices suck! And you gotta dig around all the old produce to get something, somewhat, descent. I live just down the street and cannot believe so many come here. Santa Ana stores have such good produce and it's cheap. I decided to come again today and the lady had the nerve to tell me that I wasn't allowed to bring my stroller. She then proceeded to check my stroller for any stollen goods. Wow!!! I really dislike this place and today was the final straw. Their hot food is amazing the carnitas are so tasty and tender. The only thing that I have an issue with is that some times their produce is too ripe. I will probably never stop going to this market for things that are "on sale," even though you often have to dig for the "good ones." I had a really annoying experience with their meat department today that is causing me to write. Advertised meat special for the week: boneless beef stew meat $4.99/lb. The meat in the case looks great and fresh, but is marked $6.29/lb. I chose the package I wanted, and took it back to the counter to ask them to re-price it... a no-brainer at most stores. She looked at me like I had presented a nuclear physics problem, and took the package in the back. A man came out with my package, looked at it, looked at his pricing scale and then said something about "meat from the case." VERY broken English, he clearly wanted to have a communications issue. We walked to that section, and the beef in front looked pretty good, but the stuff near the back was at least 50% oxidized and brown. I said "from the front please, the stuff in the back is brown." He said something like "no... it's all good" and started grabbing handfuls from the back. I said "forget it... no thank you," and he said "OK" and dropped the icky brown meat back in the tray. The pricing scheme is probably illegal, and the rancid meat is probably a health issue... hard to figure what they're thinking. If it wasn't Sunday, I'd have already reported them. read more
