Their refrigerated section had a beautiful selection, and I grabbed the potato gnocchi and fettuccine right away. As I explored the store, I kept finding more things I wanted to buy. It may look small, but there it's lots to see and buy. They have an incredible variety of pastas, oils, pastries, and specialty Italian ingredients. There's also a deli that makes sandwiches, and the staff member helping me was so friendly and patient. I didn't know what to choose, so they recommended their most popular item: the Great Grandpa Joe sandwich. I ordered the large to share, and let me tell you... it was the best sandwich I've ever had. Really enjoyed this market a lot more than I thought. Was looking for a market with 4-5 different choices of salami since I got couple baguettes. But walking in, I was drawn directly to their deli section (which on the right upon walking in) with ALOT of Italian sandwiches option and huge option of cheeses, meats, and especially salamis. I was blown away and ended up getting one of their sandwich (which is quite reasonable and huge comparing to other places that I been too). Also got 5 different types of salamis (which I can get all of them). Folks work there are quite down to earth friendly and very helpful. They do have all the Italian foods there, fresh, dozen, or boxes plus liquors and bakery and hot foods. So many choices that I almost get more than I should. Got some baked good on the way out and man, it is delicious and with the portion for the prices, I will go here for them. The sandwich was well packed and the filling is what I got me, very well thick of all types of meats and the bread was good (can be heat up abit for the crunchy outside and soft inside) and the sauce and fresh veggies are great combo. I was going to eat1/2 but ended up eating them all in 30mins. Got darn good & tasty. Great vibe, and sandwiches/deli counter can be packed - call in for order before coming in. I was here early around 9:30am and took me 20mins before I can order...so worth it. Parking was good, got front parking at the entrance. I found Claro's under Reddit suggestions and so glad I did! For starters, immediately grab a ticket so that you can shop around the market while you wait for your turn to order a sandwich. I came prime lunch time on Saturday and waited about 40 minutes. So be prepared that this isn't the quickest trip. The staff and customers were all friendly! The staff was handing out samples while we all waited which was nice to try new things! I ordered the Angry Joe which was a spicy sandwich. I thought this was super good mix! I go to Claro to pretend I'm living in Italy and to get everything and anything I need and don't really need just because they look and sound so Italian. Anyway, if you like Panettone, Claro has a gazillion kinds/brands of Panettones you can choose from. Ranges from cheap to super expensive, already in gift box kind of bread. I got a few expensive ones and boy, they are so delicious! The market offers a wide variety of spices and ingredients, fresh/frozen for you to make anything you want. I also got a frozen serving of lasagna and it was amazing baking at home. The desserts are so good here and this is where I would buy Christmas cookie trays, they range from small to large, and would bring to the office and pretend I hand-baked them lol! Claro's is still a great little market. I found a jar of olive salad from Central Grocery, home of the muffuletta, and some bucatini pasta, quite hard to find these days. I dropped a star because I go there for the sandwiches, and then pick up other stuff while I am waiting. The crusty on the outside and pillowy on the inside rolls are gone, replaced with a torpedo type roll that is chewy, and much smaller. It is also lacking in flavor. This roll ruined my great grandpa Joe. Thinner roll has less surface area for lettuce, pepperoncinis, tomato, and Italian dressing. This changed the texture and flavor of the sandwich I've been eating for years to the point that I won't order one again. Claro's was the star of the sandwich world. Literally the best local spot for a quick lunch and snacks!! They have a huge variety of Italian pastries and hot foods as well as a sandwich station. There's always some hidden gems in their market but my favorite is of course the desserts, which they sell by the pound. They also let you try before you buy if you are unsure! I've been shopping at Claros in the San Gabriel Valley since I was a little girl. I'm so happy to have found a Claro's in Tustin. Everything about Claro's is nostalgic to me. Yesterday, I phoned into order some sandwich platters for a small gathering. I want to give praise to one of the nicest ladies ever! Pearla is so sweet, attentive and patient as I was navigating all the "goodness" on the catering menu. I wasn't rushed, I didn't feel as if she was in a hurry, although I KNOW she was busy, as Claro's always is. At the end of our conversation she called me "honey" reminding me of my Italian aunties and grammy. I'll be coming back to Claro's for years to come and so will our children! I'd heard so much about this place from family but hadn't gone myself until right before Christmas 2 years ago. It was so busy, and rightfully so! The vibes in here are immaculate. It feels like you're in a small market somewhere randomly in Italy. Great vibes, great service ( they do their best to move things along despite the crowd, but you can always browse the store while waiting). Strangers were striking up conversation with each other and the deli salads smelled so delicious. Remember to check the harvest date and also remember to check the prices at Ralph's and Albertson's where the same oils cost half as much and not expired. Che cazzo! The cheese selection is also quite small and grim for an 'Italian market', Belgioso is fine, but it's just a Wisconsin cheese found at any Ralph's. I'd expect some imports or something, but no caccicavallo or robiola in sight. My teeny Midwest town in WI can do 10x better than this. And I won't get into how stale the sandwich bread is....maybe Cortina's is better? I highly recommend Claro's for both their deli sandwiches and their selection of house-made and imported Italian goods. The service is exceptional--staff take the time to listen to your requests, answer questions, and even offer complimentary samples while you wait However I think that their greatest strength is also their drawback as I ended up waiting about 30 minutes for my sandwich with about 7 people ahead of me. I am not sure if its a staffing or efficency issue however I do think there is room for improvement on the speed of service at the deli for people on the go, or those wanting a sandwich during lunch breaks. I was Googling where to buy guanciale because I wanted to make an amatriciana and Claro's was listed and nearby in Tustin Ended up also walking out with a sandwich and both impressed. I don't know what they did to their bread. The shrinkflation I can almost understand these days - the sandwiches' fillings have become more sparse, but still great quality. But the bread... it's awful now. The sandwiches used to be made with this soft, good-chewy, fragrant Italian bread. Now it's a hard pseudo-baguette that has to be 25% narrower, which requires less meat. The new bread is bad - stale-chewy, with a crust like a day old baguette that's been sitting out. I'm not even a "bread" guy, but it's so bad I just spent all of this time ranting about it because it's ruined one of my favorite sandwich places. Oh, and stop with the sharp diagonal cuts - you're not hiding that the sandwich is smaller. When people would rave about Cortina's, I use to send them to Claro's instead - not anymore. We've been to the La Habra location and this was our first time to the Tustin location. It's a nice and big location. We usually get sandwiches at Claro's and they're good. But since we already had bread we wanted to get ingredients to make our own sandwiches. We got 1/2 pound slices of provolone cheese, ghost pepper jack cheese, classic mortadella, Italian turkey breast, and hot capocollo. Also, we got pistachio pesto spread, banana peppers, and Claro's sandwich oil dressing. We spent $52 but it was sooooo worth it. The ingredients and food they sell are so awesome and delicious. What can I say to make this review not sound bad, as the outcome was delicious flavors and wish it was a perfect five. The vibe was local deli and market that had the flare of personal touch. I ate one half for lunch and another half of the other for dinner. Now I can't say the star was the pickle, but oh my goodness, it was so juicy and great flavors. Happened upon this spot while in the area and had to stop in. My husband and I bought pasta shells, meat sauce, and parmesan to make stuffed shells that evening. Unfortunately they had run out of ricotta so we had to stop at a normal grocery store for that after. They said they were out of quite a few things after the holidays.
