This spot is a hidden gem for sure! The restaurant is decorated to the top with Mexican memorabilia such as dolls and singers. The environment is low key and casual, no need to dress - just bring your appetite! The service was fast and friendly, but the highlight is most definitely the food. I'd never before had a huarache, and this place was the best place to try one! They are HUMUNGOUS and you can select what goes on top of it, from eggs like myself, to asada. Each one had two types of salsa on top - and hot salsa at that! Not just spiciness, but temperature. I'd always been served salsas cold, so this was a great way to enjoy all the flavors. While this was all my stomach could take - the menu was huge, and I'd encourage you to try out this spot as you will surely find something authentic that you enjoy. read more

Found this place on a whim and very happy we did. It was not busy for a Friday night. We were craving margs and tacos and we did not leave disappointed. We ordered our drinks immediately after sitting down but somehow our food arrived before our drinks did. Cooks were on top of their game! The complimentary chips and fresh salsa was a bonus but we were somewhat annoyed our server disappeared without getting us waters or checking on us for quite some time. The food was the star of the show, the meat was overflowing, perfectly seasoned and cooked like it should be. Our drinks could have been stronger but we're very enjoyable. This was such a great quick breakfast spot. Chilaquiles were delicious and definitely an underrated breakfast in Omaha. Adding all the sides like nopales and chicken just make the meal taste 10x better. Reasonable prices and the staff was extremely friendly. Came here for breakfast. Ordered the chilaquiles and hubby the eggs, hash browns and sausage, plus toast on the side. We both had coffee and it was a nice darker roast with good flavor. The chilaquiles were incredible! A HUGE portion, enough for two. That green sauce, suggested by the wait staff, was tangy and piquant. The chips were still semi crisp on the edges giving texture. I tasted hubby's hash browns and they were perfectly seasoned and crispy. Plus they serve chips and salsa in the morning?! So good. The dark red sauce was Smokey and spicy, the medium red more tomato based, and the green a jalapeño vinegar, all delicious with fresh chips. Overall, a clean and casual place to have a quick breakfast. Was $33 before tip. We'll be back. read more

Really love their Conchinita Pibil Huarache, the pickled red onions and marinated pork are an amazing combination of tangy and savory. For anyone who's never had a headache I highly recommend trying them, although their tacos were good too if you're not in an adventurous mood. read more

The servers were nice, so no complaints there. For starters, I ordered agua de Piña and it wasn't fresh...it was cool aid...literally powder. So I gave it back to them and then asked for water. Because I wasn't paying 5 dollars for cheap store bought pineapple juice. Our food was mediocre, and the lime they gave us was rotten. At the end of our meal when we were paying we got two payaso candies (The marshmallow ones), and when I opened mine they literally had mold growing on them. So we got our refund. After being in the car, we reviewed the check and they charged us an extra 10 dollars. They did end up giving us our money. Al pastor and asada meat lacked flavor and seasoning. I really wanted to like this place. For some reason, Mexican restaurants in Omaha don't offer chilaquiles or Huaraches, so I was excited about it. We arrived at 11. Breakfast is not served after 11 am, but the waiter was rude about it. How dare we ask from the breakfast menu at 11:01 on a Saturday morning? Huarache de Asada was bad. The Huarache (an elongated tortilla stuffed with beans and topped with cheese, sauce and meat of choice) was so thin, it looked like two taco tortillas were slapped together with a microfilm of beans. Added two eggs on top. This was $12 and not tasty or filling. My wife ordered a torta. Bland and dry meat, unimpressive bread, no beans, just a tiny bit of mayo and tons of shredded lettuce. Food was sub par at best and expensive. Huaraches are a true disappointment. Add that to a rude and mediocre service, makes it for a very poor experience. Very sad. read more

Tough to find but worth the search. Hungry for a Mexican breakfast, I was interested in trying La Casa's chilaquiles and was not disappointed. It's a heavy dish with the toasted tortilla bits, rice, eggs, chorizo, cheese, and red sauce -- perhaps better suited for a cold fall or winter morning than in the summer. But, with its wispy hint of a smoky under-taste, the chilaquiles hit the spot for me, even in August! I'll be back to try their huaraches, described as a larger version of a sope. In my instance the server didn't provide a bill for my family dinner. Server brought the wireless card terminal. I asked for the bill with list of what we ordered. She said I have to pay first to then receive copy of the bill. Already weird but I say okay... she hands me the terminal asking if I'd like to add tip. I do 13-15%. Then I review the full bill where an automatic 15% gratuity was added. I confronted the server about it, "why no up-front bill list and no comment about the auto-gratuity?" The server 'washed her hands' and in a way blamed me for not reading the small print on the menu. "It's not my job to tell about that to people." About the up-front bill, they said I had to go up to the main POS machine to request the bill up-front since I wanted to pay with card- again, no accountability. I have mixed feeling about this place, the idea is great, but food is lacking something. All the ingredients for the topping of the huarache are fresh, which include tomato, lettuce, cheese and sour cream with your choice of meat. The huarache is a good size fried tortilla enough to feed one. It is stuffed with black beans which Is a great idea....except it all comes down to the oil it is fried in. Mine tasted like fried eggs, and there was an excess of it all over the food. I wanted to see how good their mixed drinks were since they seem to have a well stocked bar, my Ultimate Margatita had way too much syrupy Margatita mix and basically tasted like sugar...I felt bad sending it back since the waitress seemed to be the only one in the front. The one memorably positive thing about this place are the chips and salsa and the cute deco on one of the walls honoring the Golden Era of Mexican Film. The music is loudly playing in the background. This is not your "La Mesa" or "Hectors" this is REAL,this is AUTHENTIC, this is Mexican food!! Came in on a Sunday morning ordered the Chilaquiles and their namesake the Huarache! The Huarache is basically a Long Sandal(Huarache in English) shaped flat gordita stuffed with black bean paste, cheese, and a meat of your choice. On top of the Huarache is more meat of your choice lettuce,tomato,cream,queso fresco, Red or Green salsa or both. I like spicy so i opted for both,but the spiciness didnt overwhelm. Also wash it down with a Michelada (Bloody mary mix with beer instead of Vodak). The owner brought my 1 year old some complimentary sweet bread and a toy,free of charge. She was even going table to table chatting with patrons . The place itself is a hole in the wall mismatched tables and chairs but the food was well worth it. I can't believe I have made it this far in life without trying a huarache! Don't make the same mistake I did - make the trip to La Casa Del Huarache and try them for yourself. We ordered take-out from here last week for a birthday here in the office. I was hesitant at first, but since it wasn't my birthday we were celebrating, I had no place to complain. Homestead Cafe is actually called La Casa de Huaraches and they serve primarily huaraches. A huarache is a flat masa and bean lightly fried tortilla about 12 inches long with spiced meat on top served with lettuce, onion, salsa verde and/or pico de gallo and mexican cheese. When you ask for it I usually get the al pastor which is seasoned pork cooked with chiles and pineapple. Very tasty. Also, if you ask for it prepared with salsa verde they will not put the typical red chile on top of the huarache. There are various ways to prepare but getting the spiced beef known as adoboda, carne ranchera, or chorizo is tasty. Takes like 5-8 minutes to get one made and brought to your table. Ask for chips and green tomatillo salsa and it comes out warm. Also, ask for Horchata, a vanilla, cinnamon and rice drink. It complements the spiciness of the huarache. read more

Terrible! We were the first people in there when they opened this morning at 9. We waited and waited as the few other tables and takeout orders were all served. My 3 year olds food came out at 10, and the order was wrong. We told our waitress and she didn't correct it so he just ate it anyway since he was hungry. Another 15 minutes passed and 2 more of our orders finally came out. One was wrong and both were completely cold. Our 4th order didn't come out. Meanwhile we asked to talk to the manager and he said they were having problems with their burner. Not sure why they wouldn't tell customers that upfront, or just not open if they can't serve their customers in a timely manner. It also doesn't explain why everyone else got their food or explain why our orders were wrong. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. What a waste of our morning. We left and came to Sams Leon. 15 minutes later, we already have our food and it's delicious. Just go there, instead! read more

I just had my first huarache al pastor and it was amazing!! I didn't like that you don't get chips and salsa for free but it was worth ordering since chips are made fresh. Red salsa was too spicy though. Service could have been a bit faster but it was only one lady and busy for lunch during the week. All in All a great meal at a reasonable price! This place is really only visible if you are traveling westbound on Q st, so I'm glad a friend turned me onto it. I've been here a couple times now and these huaraches are legit! Basically just a fried masa bread base (a little soft, a little crispy) filled with mashed black beans and then topped with green or red sauce, onion, lettuce, tomato, queso fresco, sour cream and your choice of several tasty meats. I have tried the el pastor (pineapple and chile marinated pork) and the chorizo and they are both full of flavor. The steak was pretty bland, but had a good pure beef flavor if that is what you are looking for. Also I would recommend the green sauce for the huaraches and dipping. Try the red sauce on the side, but it has a bite that is just not pleasant to me. To wrap things up, I'm a big comfort food guy and a bite of that fried masa and all those toppings really makes for a delicious meal! read more

this place has good food but service is not good and not clean at all. i came into this restaurant and while i was eating a 'roach fell into my plate. i complained to the lady up fornt but she did nothing about it, all she did was grab it and throw it away, never offered me full refund, or to even make a new plate, NOTHING. this is why i am giving a one star, i would of liked to leave a negative one but cant so one will do. read more
