I would not have guessed that this lovely Italian restaurant was in the shopping center. We were greeted by our waiter, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and friendly. the linens and ambience of this restaurant were unexpected. Had an eggplant appetizer that was excellent, followed by clams and spaghetti, they were very generous with the clams in the shell. I had Ossobuco that was very good with a wonderful risotto. This was our first time in this restaurant and the server Kathleen is exceptional. We had a full Italian experience. Started with the caprese, then I had the spaghetti bolognese and my husband had the veal parmesan. We also had the meatballs with ricotta cheese and the cheese risotto. All of this was exceptional. Who knew that such a charming place could be found nestled in this shopping center! White linen tables cloths and napkins graced the handful of tables. Pleasant instrumental music played in the background. One could actually have a conversation. Heavy flatware and dinnerware made the entree presentation impressive. Tomas greeted us and waited our table. He was gracious and attentive. Then the food was exceptional. The angel hair pasta was cooked perfectly. The lemon sauce on the Pollo Florentine was pleasantly tangy. Then to finish this excellent dinner we ordered Tiramisu and a demitasse of a latte. I love this place. My boyfriend and his Mom are from Crystal River and have visited quite a bit; in the last few years -so have I! Firstly, I recommend reservations especially on the weekends because there are about 10 tables max on the inside. You will need to call to make the reservation, but I think it's worth it for peace of mind. It is in a strip mall, but great parking since there's a free lot. Inside, the decor is a little mixed but I appreciate the low light inside. We have always had good service. Service is slow, but in a good way. I hate super fast and pushy meals so I love this place for that. It never feels like they are trying to just flip the table and get you in and out. The wines are well-priced and they have a good selection. They have always had some sort of special when we go as well. They serve still water and yummy warm bread rolls to start. I usually get a soda and drink that with my water - they have canned drinks here that they keep chill which I feel is just better than fountain drinks which can be inconsistent. This last weekend, I got the chicken Parmesan, my boyfriend got the Squid ink fettuccine, and his Mom got the Lasagne. Mine was delicious and his Mom loved his. He loved the pasta and sauce, but wasn't a fan of the scallops. He's tried scallops a few times and just isn't a fan so this isn't a knock on the pasta or the preparation. We got 2 of their cannoli as well. We had some leftovers boxed up too. Would I say that it's the most authentic Italian? No, but it's really yummy and consistent. Hubby and I wanted to try a restaurant we've never been to for our date night so we chose La Casa di Norma. Located in a strip store plaza on Hwy 19 in Crystal River, it's been in business for years. We moved here in 2005 and Norma's was there. There are a couple of outside tables but we opted for inside dining because it was a little chilly for me. Inside is a small but elegant dining room. The decor is what I would describe as Old World Italian. Their nine tables had cloth linens, crystal glassware and nice quality plates. A small Crystal candelabra in the middle of the table lent a romantic feel to our dining experience. The walls were tastefully decorated with wine bottle racks and artwork. Several crystal chandeliers hung from their drop down ceiling however, there were several white ceiling tiles with large dark water stains that were incongruent with the upscale look of the decor. One nice decorating touch was colored lighting around the floorboards, however on one side half of the lights didn't work! A little upkeep with fixing a few things would go a long way in making this tiny restaurant classier. We were greeted quickly by our waitress - the only waitress we seen but then again we were the first customers for dinner. Their menu has plenty of options to choose from however, on their page of daily options two items were not available. Their soup de jour and their osso bucco were not available to us but were on the menu. I was disappointed with no soup option since they do not give you a salad or cup of soup with your entree. Everything is a la carte. You can order a salad and they have several delicious sounding options to chose from. They range anywhere from $8.95 to $16.95. We opted for unsweetened ice teas even though Norma's offers upscale wines and coffees. Our ice tea came out without the lemon slices we asked for and it was very, very strong and "old" tasting - like it was sitting out for quite awhile. Very disappointing but we diluted it with our water at the table and added Stevia liquid which I carry with me everywhere and it made our tea slightly more palatable. Our waitress did bring out a bread basket with four small ciabotta bread rolls freshly made and a dipping sauce that I've never seen before. Hubby said "What's this?" And I replied it looks like an Italian salsa but my word was it delicious with the warm homemade rolls!! From what I could taste and see it was a small bowl of good quality extra virgin olive oil with minced garlic, oregano flakes, red pepper flakes, chiffonade of fresh basil leaves and small cubes of fresh red Roma tomatoes. Well worth dipping into!! I chose for my main dish their Chicken Scarpariello. Boneless, skinless chicken breast with Italian sausage, hot pepper rings and kalamata olives in a brown sauce. It comes with your choice of vegetable of the day - which was broccoli or a side of pasta. I chose linguine with aglio olio sauce (garlic oil sauce). I have to say that it was extremely tasty except that my thinly sliced chicken breast was tough from overcooking. The Italian sausage was tender and very good but also sliced so very thinly. They were generous with the kalamata olives but this made my dish a tad briny so if you love salt like I do then this is the dish for you. My linguine was cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. My only complaint was for the price of $18.95 I felt their portions were skimpy. But I know that's the way of these upscale restaurants. It was a nice dining experience but truthfully I don't need all the fancy ambience. I rather have a causal setting with hearty portions of great food at reasonable prices and entrees that come with a small side salad or cup of soup included in the price. Moschello's in Homosassa still remains my favorite Italian restaurant in our county. read more

Last night we decided to try La Casa di Norma for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised to find white tablecloths and a more upscale vibe than everything else in the area. We were quickly seated even tho they were almost full. I think our server was the owner and she was very nice, giving us menus, etc. The selections on the menu were interesting, however they were out of the dishes I was most interested in, (no veal or black pasta). I ended up with pasta with scallops and mushrooms and would probably order it again. They seemed a little understaffed so the service was slow. Overall I would recommend it, but I will update this review after another visit. read more

The best Italian food that I have ever had. I ordered fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp. It was delicious super creamy extra yummy. They did not have chicken piccata on the menu. We however asked if they would make it and of course they accommodated my wife. My friend ordered the lasagna. Hands-down the best that we both have ever tasted. Super light and fluffy with lots of ricotta. Absolutely delicious. If you're in Crystal River, you have to try this place. read more

Looked at menu prior to eating here and I was very excited. Wanted the carpaccio tenderloin they were out of both that and the salmon. Quaint place very friendly. Ordered the risotto with mushroom and truffle. Huge portion that is all it had to offer. Some grains were mushy others were raw. Taste was a beef consume not mushroom and the mushrooms were tough. That being said everyone around me ordered a pasta dish and the plates were empty. I'll give another try for pasta. They might want to tone down their menu to what they know and can offer. read more

Food is excellent. The menu is extensive and yes they don't have some items on the menu (sign of the times, not their fault). Service was slow, you aren't rushed, take your time and enjoy your evening. They are under staffed and trying to hire help (another sign of the times). La Casa Di Norma has potential. When you walk into the place, it is has a somewhat intimate feel about it. We were greeted and seated in a timely manner. The young lady who took our drink orders was clearly new as she couldn't answer any questions we had about the menu. Finally an older woman appeared and came to take our orders. When I inquired whether or not the pasta was homemade, I was told that it wasn't. That was a huge bummer. There is a place right down the road that makes their own... When the food arrived, it was fresh and hot. I had the spaghetti & meatball (although the menu clearly stated meatballS). I was disappointed to see only the one meatball. Nevertheless, I found the sauce and the meatball very good. I tried some of my father-in-law's pork carnitas and was really impressed. So juicy and tender. Our service was kind of sketchy. The food was pretty good, but definitely has room for improvement. I am still on a quest to find the perfect homemade spaghetti and meatballs down here. Vacationing in Florida to swim with manatees (awesome, by the way) and decided to try this little place. I love small family owned restaurants. This one was perfect. We went at about 6pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't overly crowded so we were immediately seated. Everyone was friendly. The redheaded young man was helpful and polite. Our drink glasses were constantly full. The lil Italian grandma was wonderful and made sure everything was safe to eat because of my allergies. Very accommodating. Our meal started with garlic bread and a cup of chicken lentil soup though it didn't have much lentil in it. It mostly had those little pasta balls like in wedding soup. The broth was mild but flavorful. My dining companion ordered the veal Marsala and I stole a bite. Wow. Nice brown gravy with mushrooms. I was starting to think I should steal his plate when I finally tried mine, veal saltimbocca. That was delicious too. Now I wanted both plates! The veal was cooked perfectly and was tender enough to cut with a fork. The spinach and ham on the saltimbocca was also tender. The sauce had a nice hint of sherry. I wanted more because it tasted so good but then I wouldn't have had the tiny bit of room left for dessert. And I love dessert! And I am so glad I saved room for the canoli. Yes, it has a strong cinnamon flavor but ohhh... Perfect consistency and the shell was firm without being overly thick or hard. I wanted to lick the plate. I'm guessing my dining companion enjoyed his tiramisu because when I looked up, his plate was clean. Lol Overall, wonderful little restaurant.
