I love this place so much! It really does have the best Puerto Rican food hands down. I heard about it through good old traditional word of mouth around work and it took us months to get down here since it didn't have many reviews on Yelp but I'm glad we took a chance on it. The food here is amazing. I see the same regulars on the weekends and it's like we all share this amazing secret with each other (and now you all, I guess.) I never order the same thing twice thanks to their daily special. Sometimes it's pulled pork, sometimes it's ribs in a chimichurri sauce, and last week it was beef stew. No matter what I order, I always add a little homemade green salsa to it. The lady who runs the place is so kind. She's really what sells the place. There's obviously a lot of pride and love that comes from running this place and our first 5 times trying new dishes was always met with a "you're gonna love it." And we do. They do a brisk lunch business and close the restaurant at 7:00 so try to get here early! I'm town fir the weekend and was really in the mood for some good ole Latin food. Soon as I walked in I waited to be greeted and seated however the hostess never acknowledged me or sat me or mention if this establishment is self sitting. They had a few customers and it was not that busy. The food smelled good but I left due to the lack of professionalism from the hostess. Shame really!!! read more

Cuban sandwich was very good. The ambiance was nice with a Latin flair. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

They have a great selection of Puerto Rican foods in the kitchen along with a variety of Caribbean groceries available too. I think if they were in a better location and expanded the restaurant they would do much better. read more

We came here thinking it would be like all the other Puerto Rican restaurants we've been to everywhere we've traveled to, sadly it was not. It wasn't busy at all. There was a couple there but they were finishing up while we read through the menu. Another couple came in probably 15mins after us. We ordered but noticed that our order wasn't put in til 10-15mins after the other couple had theirs put in. So we got our food later than them. We order an appetizer while we waited on our food and it came out burnt and the inside wasn't even cooked all the way. I didn't eat it. It tasted like burnt old oil that was used to fry fish, just a heads up the appetizer doesn't have fish in it. Our meals that we order came out about 30-35mins after we gave our ordered and it wasn't good as well. Their mofongo was the only thing on both plates that was decent. The pork I ordered was burnt. The other plate, everything on it was so salty. Would I come back here? No. Do I recommend it? No. If I could I would give it no stars, I only gave it a star because I wasn't able to give a review without one. Side note: we speak multiple languages and Spanish is one of them. We spoke English the whole time in there just to see how they would treat us and it was bad. Especially all the bad things they were saying about us, the food they served us and laughed about it. I was even on a phone call with my best friend that's Puerto Rican and I let him listen in and he said wow and apologized and said not everyone is like that where he is from. I went to Puerto Rico a few years ago and I promise you the mofongo here tasted just like it did in P.R....the Wednesday special is my absolute favorite with sweet plantains. It reminds me a little bit of the Vaca Brava restaurant in P.R...I highly recommen eating her if you're looking for authentic meals and cuisine. This is the second time I've been here in about three weeks, if that tells you anything. I wanted my husband to try it and keep wanting to try more on the menu. This time I went for the special and got the fried pork with yellow rice and a salad. The pork was super tasty. I couldn't even eat the rice because we ordered one of the rellenos de papa, so my husband could taste just how delicious it was. Not sure I'd be able to not order one every time I come here (yes more trips in the future are already expected). My husband got the pork with mofongo. The mofongo was delicious. I can say this is the best puertorican food I had so far. Upon enter the store you to remember it's also a grocery store. As I walk down the aisle, I when back into flash back mode. They had everything that I grew up with. I decided to get some cracker and cookie from my childhood. Now if you don't speak Spanish, don't worry the servers speak English. My wife and I are New York Puerto Rican's- "Nuyoricans" (look up the word on Wikipedia). We have been waiting for real Puerto Rican food for 27 years in AUGUSTA and finally have it in this small cozy restaurant. The food, service and ambiance is wonderful. In the time since the Bodega opened its restaurant it has made enhancements to the decor but its still small with perhaps 5-6 tables. That should not be a negative. Having traveled to many places we can tell you some of the best food is served in the smallest places. Try the mofongo. I like the shrimp mofongo my wife the pernil or pork. The rice and beans are great; the latter well seasoned. They have alcapurias and I believe they pasteles. Call ahead. They are not opened late so verify their hours. Enjoy!! read more

We are new to the area and wanted some food similar to Dominican Food so we were told to come here. My husband ordered the fried chicken rice and beans and plantain. The plantains and rice/beans were good but the chicken was horrible! The smell made me sick the smell was of chicken being cooked in old grease. It smelled so bad on the ride home I was sick. I called and spoke to the manager who apologized but did mention they change their grease every 10 days which explained to me why the chicken smelled and tasted so bad. I can say I will not eat here again 10 days is a long time to continuously fry chicken and pork every day. Unsanitary and I will be calling the health dept. read more

Absolutely amazing! I love love love it and the kids are right there with me. I had the pernil with trifongo and gandule rice. The kids had jibaro and empanadas. We also had the sour sap and mango drinks. I couldn't get enough of it. The warmth of the place and seeing people greeted like family was very welcoming. It made me miss home. Very good food, but don't expect the same service you would get in a regular restaurant. This is in a Latino grocery store, with very limited seating. Only one waitress, and she was swamped today. Food was brought out as each dish was prepared, not all at once. The advantage to that is it was hot. I had the shrimp, which was excellent. I also had the fried queso. The way they served it could be improved. No silverware, we were given toothpicks. No plates. No cups. Asked for a cup of ice and never got it. I would recommend getting food to go, if possible. 5 stars for the food. 2 stars for the service. read more

I stopped by last night to buy some Coco Rico soda and to order some food. The woman who owns the restaurant explained their kitchen closes at 6:30 pm, but that they had some pulled pork, rice, and fried plantains we could buy. She really didn't have to do that considering we'd come in so close to close, but she did anyway and was super kind and explanatory about when their kitchen is open. We really appreciated the service and will definitely be coming back at a better time to order probably everything off the menu! read more
