What struck me most was the attention to freshness. Charlie clearly understands something that gets lost in a lot of restaurants: great food doesn't need to hide behind a lot of tricks. The octopus tastes like it has just come out of the Mediterranean. The feta plate is simple but exceptional. The lamb gyro is the kind of food that makes you stop talking for a minute. And the spanakopita rolls--crispy, warm and packed with flavor--are dangerously easy to keep eating. But somewhere between the first bite and the last, you realize this isn't really about Greek food. It's about being transported. That's what the best restaurants in the world do. They give you a glimpse into another place, another culture, another way of living. Charlie brings the flavors of Greece here with a respect for the ingredients and a level of attention to freshness that is hard to fake. For our entrées, we ordered a Shrimp kabob and the Chicken kabob, both with rice and a few other garnishes. The clear winner was the lemon oregano sauce on the chicken as it's packed with bright, savory flavor and takes the kabob to another level. We asked to sit at the bar where we were greeted by the wonderful Rowan. Rowan was fantastic! He answered all of questions, made excellent suggestions, and dealt with my food allergies with grace and efficiency. I cannot speak highly enough about Rowan. We would go back even if the food wasn't absolutely wonderful, which it was. The place is quite lovely. The ambience is perfect for a quiet date, at least a little late on a Sunday night. It was quiet and peaceful. Now for the food. YUMMY!!! We were offered the happy hour menu, which I believe we were told they have happy hour all day every day. The happy hour menu was just enough to give you some really good small plate options. We ordered the Seaweed Salad, which was the most flavorful I have ever had, the Gyoza, which my date absolutely loved (I couldn't eat it), and the Tuna Tataki, which was seared perfectly and was served on a bed of Shitake mushrooms. As good as the tune was, the "shrooms" stole the spotlight on that plate. We also ordered a couple cocktails. She ordered the Long Island Duck Ramen - a huge bowl of broth and noodles with a roasted duck. I tried a bite of the duck and it was scrumptious (I do not typically like duck). I ordered the dry-aged ribeye that came with some roasted peppers, zucchini, broccolini, and asparagus (this was offered to me as an option because the dish is normally served with the house made waffles fries). The Ribeye was divine! It was grilled to a perfect medium rare and served with a small bit of butter on the top with some herbs. Both of those dished were way too big for us to finish, so we ended up with some take home boxes. I could recommend Chubby Cat more, not only for the food, but for the service also. Make sure you sit at the bar with Rowan. I am sure the service is great throughout the restaurant but why mess with perfection :-)
