Aren't octopus supposed to have six legs? I got three. I've always liked this restaurant, so this was especially disappointing. We had a reservation and unfortunately showed up 17 mins late. They have a 15 minute grace period but they called us and of course we don't have our phones accepting incoming calls from numbers we don't know. Never got the memo. Arrived at 7:17 instead and they gave away our table. They did seat us outside within ten minutes so that was fine but beware of their policy. It would be nice if they texted. They brought out different dips, guac, chipotle aioli, salsa and lime. No chips or anything to dip. The margarita was made way too sweet and they added a lemon(?). The actual meals were lackluster. I think 6 giant shrimp for one and overly deep fried shrimp in the other. Pork and beans as a side plus rice. I wouldn't go back. Tons of other places. Located on busy La Jolla Bl and Pearl, parking is a challenge, this restaurant opened over a year ago and it was my first time visiting and just wanted something light to try post a day at the pool-tides. The menu selections are mostly seafood where their specialties are crudo/raw fish. The original dish is their claim of fame: red snapper tostada, which caught my attention and ordered. This tostada tasted light but relied on the sauces for more enhanced flavor, the red snapper pieces of raw fish were not particularly raw, as it had been marinating in acidic lemon or lime which resulted in partially cooked the fish. I expected more raw crudo but nonetheless delectably delish. My dining friend was feeling more adventurous and ordered the soft shell crab taco. Earlier he saw a small crab in the pool tide crevice and the little creature looked so cute. I just could not eat something that I saw alive even though it was not the actual crab. My friend devoured the soft shell crab taco and enjoyed it. A tray of house made tortilla chips along with sauces mild and spicy were presented with our dishes. Would return to try other menu selections. Service by the staff were cordial and helpful. Waitress Natalia was super nice. We sat outside the dog friendly patio with my pup Fendi as traffic passed by and wished instead we were watching tide pools and waves of water currents pass by here at La Corriente. La Corriente is a well placed, but slightly odd little restaurant in La Jolla. We found it going to and from our little motel outside of the village riding on bikes. It would be great if there was bike parking just as an FYI to the restaurant! La Correinte has a very small footprint on a prominent corner in La Jolla. Drinks are excellent seating is small and as per all San Diego La Jolla restaurants, they adore reservations and are a little creeped out by walk-ins. We were a walk-in so we faced the odd looks and "here are a couple of random places you can sit even though 75% of the restaurant is empty" vibes. Drinks were good, prices were appropriate. Food was delicious, but a little salty. Service was excellent. We enjoyed our time here, although we had to tie our bikes up to a nearby corner electrical unit to keep them from being stolen. read more

I had the shrimp pozole and the octopus with rice dish. Both were delicious! The pozole was generously filled with shrimp and the broth was very flavorful. Octopus was fresh and tender. Our waiter was very kind and attentive. Service was great. I was there for a late lunch and was seated right away. There were plenty of tables. By 2:30-3'ish the place started to fill up. I gave driven by in the evening and this place is always full and busy. The ambiance is nice and comfortable and not too noisy even when it got busier. We sat inside because it was a rainy day. I was charged a $3 credit card fee so bring cash if you want to avoid that. I will be back to try the tacos and clam chowder next time. Nothing about the taste of the food really wow-ed me or makes me want to come back. The octopus LOOKS great but it's not like it's hard to find grilled octopus. The ceviche was fine and leans more Mexican-style. I also got the tuna tostada which was decent. The salsas that come with your meal are all good and there's additional hot sauce on the table. Big no. We were on the hunt for great Mexican food. we wandered by this restaurant and decided to go in, with high hopes. We noticed right away that most of the tables were empty on a Saturday night, which was our first mistake. (Note to self: only frequent Mexican restaurants packed with locals!) We tried a number of different dishes but none were satisfying. The fish tacos were rubbery and flavorless. that's particularly hard to do in a town that prides itself on fish tacos. The Fried shrimp dish consisted only of shrimp and nothing else - no rice, no veggies. It wasn't a meal. The guacamole was light on avocado, which is a travesty. 1. FOOD: It was actually very good, especially the shrimp pozole. The fish and softshell crab tostadas were good! 2. SERVICE: We were a party of six. Two of us showed up a bit early. Although the restaurant was 75% empty, we got funny looks from the staff stating we had to wait for the table to be set. We didn't feel welcomed. The service was good, but slow. The biggest issue was the timing: half of our table was served, while the other half had to wait 30 mins for their food to arrive. Eating in shifts is not what we expect at this price point. I think it was the slow kitchen, not the servers. 3. SALSAS: for a Mexican restaurant, they were very stingy with the salsas, serving it in tiny amounts that weren't enough for the table. When we are paying a premium, you expect reasonable portions of basics like salsa. read more

Really loved this authentic Mexican seafood spot in La Jolla! They have lots of creative options for both ceviche and tacos and I loved the salsa platter that comes along with your food. We tried the guacamole, a fish ceviche, tacos and cauliflower. The cauliflower surprisingly stole the show as my favorite item! The sauce it was in was unbelievably tasty. It's definitely not just another Mexican restaurant in SD or something you can get at a taco truck. The soft shell crab would be worth the drive. They have the best clam chowder where you actually see more clams than potatoes. The broth wasn't thick. The shrimp arabe was made like a mini burrito and the tortilla was toasted. This restaurant is a new favorite of ours! The venue itself is very charming, the little outdoor patio was a pleasure to dine in, the details were really pretty. The service was attentive and thoughtful, serving us two spicy hot salsas when we wanted something with a little more of a kick. The wine pours were generous, and service was fast. The food was the best part, we ordered 3 items, the shrimp ceviche, the tuna tostada, and the roka shrimp. All of the food was served perfectly seasoned, the ceviche was tender and the shrimp so tasty, 10/10. The Tuna tostada was light and refreshing, very fresh and clean tasting dish. The roka shrimp were incredible, hot and crispy, they were a perfect dish. I read previous comments about it being over priced, and I completely disagree, every dish we had was loaded with top quality seafood, and it was very fairly priced. I have been eyeing the progress of this location for months and so glad it finally opened! First tried this place in Tijuana years ago before the pandemic and this location delivered and it was even better than I remembered. So fresh. Octopus was fire and the shrimp "Arabe" tacos were a heavier, cheesier treat. I will be back over and over again. Service was super friendly and seating will probably get crowded on weekends. Parking is not dedicated but street parking is worth it for this gem. The decor is adorable and trendy. read more

While in La Jolla we just happened upon this wonderful establishment with both indoor and outdoor seating, we chose to sit inside at a large table for four. After being greeted immediately and seated we were promptly asked about drinks and introduced to the Happy Hour food menu which featured many tacos and tostadas for $7. Not wanting to miss out on anything we ordered them all as well as my favorite thing among Mexican foods a seafood cocktail made of octopus and shrimp from the main menu. The main menu also boasted many specialties such as a grilled octopus either whole or half sized. Everything we ordered came out in a timely manner with never too much food on the table at once, I think we ordered 10 lunch items along with guacamole chips and sauces.
