I'm not gonna use the cheap decor as a reason for a bad review or the untrained waitstaff (when we asked about the fried broccoli he told us he had no idea why it was even on the menu) or the limited drink choices (both beer and soda) or the really odd seafood smell when we first walked in...and the location doesn't bother me. Good food no matter what part of town it's found is good food. So let's get to the food. I had the crawfish - 2 pounds at 6.99 per. A bit steep for the little ones I got. It was nice to be able to choose the heat level and the seasoning. I took med and Cajun. They seemed a bit dirty but not too bad. But they were SMALL. I don't know what large/big seems like to the other reviewers here but more than 2/3 of mine were small enough to have been thrown back. The flavor and heat were really pretty good and most of them came right out when I tugged. So I'm not gonna complain too much about them. But they were small. I did get the little corn but no potato. The corn was bad...soggy and old tasting. My dining companion got the fried catfish and shrimp platter with corn (it was worse than mine), fried broccoli (which would have been really good it they had put some cheese in it or on it) and french fries (which were delicious). At $19 I expected better - much better. The catfish was frozen at some point. The shrimp still had the veins down the back and the breading was exactly the same bland cornmeal on everything on the plate. EVERYTHING. I've had worse fried seafood but it's been a while and it wasn't this close to the coast where there are good fresh seafood markets. For $19 you'd expect FRESH fish. We are always looking for a new joint to grab a bite nearby. We had been seeing the advertising for this place on our cable and decided one afternoon to check it out. Our favorite place for crawfish and "shack" style seafood is up off 1960 (Bluewater Seafood) and when we don't want to drive too far we'll go down to Gessner and Westheimer to Ragin Cajun. Wish we had done either today. With all of the really good neighborhood seafood shacks and boats in the area a place like this sticks out like a sore thumb. FYI- you have to fill out a "membership" card to order beer here as they are a private club due to proximity to a church. I filled mine out with a fake name and address because I have no idea what they actually do with that information. read more

Okay i came back two years later and the management has significantly improved! The food was great, our waiter (edward) was friendly and attentive and helped us make our order. The food was fantastic and the service made this a great experience. I'm glad things changed from my previous review! Easily one of THE WORST dining experiences of my life. We were a party of four very easy going. But waitress was so absent minded, confused and generally couldnt think her way out of a paper bag. We had to ask for water refills several times, ask for napkins, ask for lemons, ask for straws etc etc. We asked about items on the menu and she had no idea about the entrees and didnt suggest anything. It was so bad that I just started laughing because I knew we were on a hidden camera game show. Like seriously this cant be real life! It was so bad that one of my friends asked if it was her first day (we wouldve gave her a break) and the waitress said no. So she clearly provides horrible service everyday. More training is desperately needed! One of my friends spilled her sweet tea and it made a huge mess on the floor. We switched tables and no one cleaned up our previous table or mopped even up till an hour later. Gross. They dont buss the tables as bowls and eaten crab and crawfish are speckled throughout the restaurant. I hate eating near other peoples scraps and trash. This also makes me wonder whats going on in the kitchen if the front of the house is such a pigsty. Someone clean this place up! We ordered dessert, the cheesecake which was supposed to have a strawberry topping, instead it had a thin syrup that looked like cough medicine and the cheesecake was obviously store bought and old. We told the manager and he actually argued with us that the topping was a homemade soufflé. Seriously sir? Im gonna need you not to lie to customers lol. Anyways he took it off our tab. Oh another thing, the plastic silverware is beyond strange for a sitdown restaurant. Theres also a note that prints out on your receipt saying "DO NOT STIFF YOUR WAITER" which means that this is a problem that the waiters encounter frequently...well surely if the service was better they wouldnt be stiffed!!! The one star in this review is for the seafood( crawfish, snow crab, potatoes corns and sausage) because it was actually extemely good. Everything else just sucked lol. My friend and I made a spontaneous u-turn after seeing they had crawfish. I've never been here before passed this place so many times so it was time to try it out. The place looks very wide on the outside with plenty of oarnjng (careful of the crazy drivers). We walked in and it smelled of seafood! There was a counter to order to-go or wait for a server to be seated. The decor was pretty basic- few shirts on the wall, some TVs on/some off, bland decorations. Lol. They don't have liquor-based drinks but all brands of may liquors and beers. I started off with a cup of gumbo. It came out within 5min and was very hot. It had a good flavor and a very dark roux. I also ordered 2 lbs of crawfish (forgot the price/lb but they weren't expensive) with a corn and 2 potatoes. Not sure why but I was surprised at how good the crawfish was. Okay y'all... sooooo... went with a friend who wanted to try this place. Super friendly at the counter (I didn't see the angry old Asian lady everyone complains about lol) and everything is set up for Covid measures which as awesome! The seasoning was good, crawfish was a little small but whatever. It started to get dark... and I see a freaking teenager roach that emerged from the pit of hell crawling on the booth seat next to my friends head. Not one of those huge ones that get in (because TX) but a dirty ass f*n roach that takes a piece of your soul with it (only me?). Which leads me to believe there is probably a problem. 1 star for flavor, 1 star Covid precautions and 1 star for customer service as they did refund the lb of crab I immediately threw in the trash. Excellent food, long wait times especially in the evening. I always order 5 lbs of crawfish because they are literally THAT GOOD! I get the house seasoning with the mild seasoning along with their garlic butter on the side. I recommend calling ahead to order because the wait can be excruciating. Their crab legs are awesome too. I find their prices reasonable, especially for their appetizers and a la carte items. Their shrimp fried rice is good also but they put a lot of bell peppers in it so if you aren't a fan of those; hold off. The staff was very nice but I wasn't at all crazy about the food. The seasoning in the crawfish reminded me of Mexican Mole and I hate mole. Ordered the sampler and it tasted like it had been sitting under a heating lamp, the fries were really good though. Lastly the server mentioned that if we bought 5 pounds of crawfish we would get a 6th lb free but they still charged me for the 6th lb. I didn't notice the bill as I was catching up with an old friend and just handed over my card (that was my mistake) but I noticed it 3 days later and called.... Still waiting for a call back. Double check your receipts. Update 4/18: Finally spoke to someone at the restaurant in regards to the additional pound of crawfish I was charged. They will be reimbursing me. No hassle given just asked for my receipt which is the most common thing any place of business would do when someone is disputing a charge or asking for a refund. When I tell y'all that I am a crab leg lover and this place surely hit the spot! I've been craving some good crab legs for a while and I am glad my guest recommended this place. I had some overrated Joe's Crab Shack a few months back but that DID NOT do the trick. Nonetheless these crabs were nice, juicy, and flavorful! Appearance wise it isn't an upscale looking restaurant, however, it has that nice hole in the wall taste. The waitress came to check in with us frequently and the meal didn't take that long at all. The only annoying thing was that there were like two flies that liked to fly around you every now and then. Besides that I have no complaints. After visiting this crawfish locale a few times over a span of a couple of years, I can see why this location gets the mixed reviews. Location is not terrible, but not river oaks either. The interior of the restaurant is a little worn to say the least and the bathrooms are ok. Service was alright, but they didn't honor my friends living social coupon for the paid value, even though it was still valid for another year into 2016. The crawfish size was alright, some big ones, but mostly small ones underneath. The cajun was not all that spicy and we had to ask for just about everything, our waitress didn't seem too knowledgeable at all. Their butter, seasoning and hot sauce was not in a central location for customers. I think I'll stick to my other favorite LA Crawfish location afterall!! read more

After leaving the Harwin Outlet decided to check La Crawfish out. This was my 1st time going to this restaurant. We got the large shrimp & fish platter ,3lbs crawfish & bacon wrap shrimp.. To say it was disgusting & nasty is an understatement. The fish was fried with batter that made the fish extremely hard. The bacon wrap shrimp was serve heated, reheated & possibly refried. The food was old, reheated & just plain nasty. I will NEVER go back there again. The crawfish was okay but the food is less than subpar. I threw the whole meal away. BEST CRAWFISH EVER! I will not eat crawfish anywhere else. I literally dream about crawfish from here. Hence why I am here sometimes twice a week during crawfish season, or maybe even once a week when it's not (for the shrimp or crab). The crawfish is so good that it makes up for the slow service. It is vietnamese style so it comes out in a bag with the crawfish soaking up all the juices. I always order crawfish and shrimp both medium spicy house style. The house style means they mix all the seasonings together and it is to die for! Other items I have tried include the gator bites, garlic bread, crawfish etouffee, calamari, and for dessert the funnel cake. I highly recommend the crawfish etouffe and especially the fresh funnel cake. All the other items are pretty mediocre. If you're a fan of crawfish this place is a must try! read more

I never knew there was one on Gessner, so I placed an online order for a pound of shrimp, house combo and medium spice because I was around the area. Shrimp was good, corn was kinda rubbery but overall decent. Now, skip to five hours later, I feel terrible, bumps form all over my body, I started to swell up and I get red all over. MIND YOU I ORDERED THE SAME ORDER I GET AT THE ONE ON HWY 6. I go to the ER and almost black out and threw up everything I ate. I was told I got food poisoning and most likely the shrimp wasn't clean or whatever. I do not recommend this location, this is my first AND LAST time going to this location. Boooooo!) My impression walking in wasn't a very good one, it's dark, and dated in there, but whatever I was there for the mud bugs, right? Can't speak for anything else on the menu. So I ordered a couple lbs of mild garlic butter, it comes with a corn. Potatoes are extra I think they were 79 cents for 2 pieces. The crawfish was good. Not great, but good. This place had the best crawfish I've ever had. Each one was incredibly fresh and a decent size too. I went here for my graduation dinner and we order 6 pounds of each flavor. The food here is bomb!! The boudain balls with the sauce they give you are the best. The crawfish is very large and juicy. The hottest spice level is wayyy too spicy and i LOVE spicy. LA in the name stands for Louisiana, ignore any references to the City of Angels. The LA Crawfish Shack located on Gessner and Harwin, in a typical Houston shopping center, in perhaps the most diverse neighborhood in the entire world, Sharpstown. A few things to keep in mind, there is no shack to be found, mind you, and speaking of location wasn't this space formerly an all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet restaurant? (In unison place your forefinger gently on your temple, crumple your lips and think, Hmmm) Mike their Operations Manager introduces himself to our group as we enter assuring us the best crawfish in all of Houston. I've been boiling crawfish for 20 years now, in my opinion, there are few restaurants that can even make such a bold statement; Mike, you better walk the walk. The hostess motions to sit wherever we wish so we grab a table next to the window. A waiter brings menu's, unnecessary, as we order 4 Lbs. Cajun and 4 Lbs. House Special (Garlic Butter, Lemon Pepper, and Cajun) both Spicy Hot at the Happy Hour Price of $6.11. Decoratively speaking, I'm pretty sure the owners went shopping on Harwin, bought anything Louisiana and threw it up on the wall. Some of the artwork looks as if they printed it themselves using a low-on-ink HP printer, tacky, but I'm here for one reason only and decor along with money is the last thing on my mind. Meanwhile, the server respectfully clears and covers the table with a plastic cloth. After 10 minutes, the Lord of All Crustaceans is delivered in two bowls along with plates and plastic ware. Begins the eating with a pinch of tail, oh boy! The shell is not hard, spiciness is on target, huge claws, great flavor; these mudbugs are quite tasty! Furthermore, the saltiness is perfectly balanced, the bugs are not mushy, and most importantly they are clean. As I eat more and more of the house special, there is a distinct flavor that comes alive with each bite that is pleasantly enhancing to the crawfish. A contrasting flavor that tames the spice and garlic which leaves an aftertaste until the next bite, very delicious. When we ask the waiter about this flavor, he tells us, the cooks are the only ones who know the recipe and they keep it a secret. Chuckle! I do have a guess, but you have to experience it for yourself. Purchased 4lbs today at $6.99/lb, you get a free ear of corn for each 2lbs ordered. A relatively new crawfish place for me to try and after reading the enthusiastic reviews, I was psyched. This place is not a shack, but it is located in a sketchy strip center and could be construed as a dive (my mom referred to their decor as "tacky"). It beat Jolynn's for interior decoration, but it does not have them or Crawfish & Noodles' bugs beat. I hadn't eaten all day and was ready to have a crawfish throw down with my mom after a very stressful day. Instead, there was further disappointment after I opened the rather substantial brown grocery bag with its crawdad contents. The bugs were rather small and mealy, and some were lukewarm. I found tails and heads that I did not deconstruct. There were poopy trails I had to watch for and detach. The sauce was the house sauce, which was a mixture of lemon, butter, garlic, and spices. I requested spicy, eh, ok, my lips got a little flushed, but this was not the slow, wonderful, burn of those other crawfish joints I mentioned. Overall, it was a little lukewarm, slightly mushy, not as fresh as its counterparts. The ears of corn were the same. You'd think that hanging out in a plastic bag with steaming hot crawfish and spices, the corn would be tender and soak up said spices. Not in this case. The kernels were rubbery and there was no flavor saturation. Neither of us even finished our ears. Heck, I just got depressed and stopped eating, and there was at least another pound left to go. This place is my new place to go for crawfish. Absolutely AMAZING!!! It's comparable to The Boiling Crab's style of taste and cooking, minus the long lines and wait time :) Lots of flavor and good spices. The size is always great. Never too small. I'm completely satisfied with this place. I don't think I'd go anywhere else unless my friends ask me to, but then again they've all converted to coming here anyway! They have big screen Tvs too for any games. Perfect. Last time I was there they were advertising happy hour everyday from 3-7pm. Btw, in reference to people's comments below about the waitstaff/service....Look, when you walk into a place like this, just let it go...lol. Walk in, seat yourself, and order...it's simple. And when we work with the staff there, Ive never had problems. They're always around and fast, and courteous on top of that. HORRIBLE SERVICE....TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING I try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this place just didnt deserve it. Went for lunch with a couple of my coworkers...our lunch started off nice enough, but quickly went down hill when the food was delivered. I ordered the shrimp etouffee and so did my coworker. The first problem is that this joint does not have real silverware. The waitress brought our table plastic ware....I find it plain cheesy to expect patrons to use plastic utensils in a full service restaurant. Maybe its a preference, but methinks not. Secondly, the etouffee was supremely spicy. I love a good spicy dish, but this one was just overly done. My coworker is not a fan of spicy food, so she asked about switching her dish for something else. The manager was called over and she made her complaint. His response was "the menu states that the dish is spicy and if you want to change your order you will be subject to a 25% return fee." He then proceeded to point out that this information was printed on the menu. We actually thought this guy was joking, but he was dead serious. At this point he says in a condescending way, that he would let my coworker have another dish, but for future reference, it would be best to read the menu thoroughly before ordering. Dude, you have got to be kidding me! There wont be a future reference because we wont be returning. Sat in the booth waiting for a menu only to be forever waiting ...20 minutes had gone by...before I got acknowledged and order was taken. The waitress came around a third time and gave us the bill. I asked for it to be taken off the bill....WELL ...after unnecessary bickering regarding a refund or bill adjustment...the dumb heifer who waited on me FINALLY goes to get the owner/mgr. and tells me they have a policy about food...that ...if LA CS didn't serve food in error and it's returned...they get "something " off the entree'....like 25% of how much the item costs. Petty business tactics! What other spot does mess like that? Contrary to that the dimwit waitress Jessica D. says something to me that can get /is going to get the owner sued! This airhead said to me "awww....she's/he's not worried...the owner has money"...and she isn't worried about being reported to the BBB? Really? You're being paid LESS THAN minimum wage though..? Ok. Sure. This place I found to be...nasty as well...that's why I am wondering if there's been a change in mgmt. Sanitation and the selection of employees SUCK!
