    Shrimp enchiladas

Definitely a must stop if your visiting Taos New Mexico. The shrimp enchiladas were tasty and the right amount of spice. We were seated outside in the patio and had plenty of shade due to the umbrellas. The service was amazing and the staff really took great care of us. Food and service 5 stars!

    Tortilla soup, it's a lot.

Super friendly staff. It was pleasant outside with lots of umbrellas to prevent direct sun. I had the chicken tortilla soup, ok & hub had seafood trio, nice.

The food was very good, the portion was satisfying, and the service was great. They offer vegetarian options that can be veganized.

    Chilirelleno and carne asada

The food at La Cueva was fantastic. We started with the guacamole and salsa. We devoured both. My daughter had the Hamburger and fries. She told me that was the best burger that she ever ate at a Mexican restaurant. My wife had the carne asada and chili relleno. She said it was delicious. I had the burrito with red and green chili. The burrito was great and I was a member of the clean plate club. The service was not as amazing. Don't be in a hurry to go anywhere. Getting our food and drinks was slow. But they rebounded with the quality of food. Finally the ambiance. This is definitely a local spot. It is in a hole on the wall building with a large New Mexico themed patio area. Plus an apartment that was turned into an eating area. Interesting to say the least but it works. La Cueva speed up your service and it's one of the best local joints in Santa Fe.

Two years ago after spending months in CO and my wife and I were driving home to Las Cruces. We stayed overnight in Taos and we were craving NM food and La Cueva was spot on. In September, we visited Taos again with our son and we decided to go back. From the restaurant outside the place looks like a dive. It is simple cafe with colorful decoration, and with real NM cuisine and good service. Most of the tables are on their enclosed patio. My wife ordered pollo en mole, my son chicken enchiladas, I had shrimp enchiladas. They have on the menu chips and salsa for $5.95, expensive when other restaurants serve them for free.

First culinary experience in Taos! My mouth is watering as I write this review. My friends and I walked around the street facade to find the main entrance, then we were guided to a separate building with additional seating. It felt exciting and welcoming. Customer service is excellent here. We each ordered a combination plate - enchiladas, chile relleno, and a taco. Little bit of everything (with Christmas chile of course) perfect for sampling the main menu items. The food tasted phenomenal, including their house made salsa. Would come back here again next time I'm in Taos!

Good and quick service, accommodated large group well. Liked the combo plate the best- delicious chili relleno. The Caesar was ok- dressing did not taste house made.

    Chicken enchiladas

Really good margaritas. Lunch was excellent. Chicken enchiladas with red and green chile. Nice outside patio seating with good service. Highly recommend.

They have a very nice outside patio with umbrellas and also an indoor dining area. The bathroom is inside the kitchen, so you will see them cooking if you have to go. Luckily we arrived before the place got completely packed. I ordered the chicken blue corn enchiladas with green chile and an over medium egg on top. This came with posole and beans on the side. All this for $16. The enchiladas were stacked and they were packed with chicken. A very nice bite to the chile and egg yolk completed the flavors. Posole and beans were hot and well seasoned. A filling and flavorful lunch. Well worth the stop. Just a note: they aren't opened on Sundays. Monday through Saturdays, lunch is served from 10:30 until 3 PM and supper from 5 to 9 PM. A Texan waiting for the bathroom told me he always orders exactly what I ordered. I would highly recommend it.

Our server, Chaniece, absolutely made the experience. I told her I wanted to order some of the most authentic Spanish dishes on the menu, and she came through perfectly. She was knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed excited to help us experience the restaurant. If you have questions about the menu, ask for her recommendations--you won't be disappointed. My partner ordered Martin's Breakfast Burrito, and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. Between the authentic food the welcoming atmosphere and Chaniece's outstanding service, it was one of the highlights of our visit to Taos.
