Walking down Civic Center Plaza on Market street there a few places to enjoy something to eat and drink outside especially during the San Francisco hot weather . I usually see lots of people around the Civic Center plaza at night and day. There is a place which sells flakey bake goods like some in SF. They also sell expresso along with sandwiches. This cafe is hidden in middle of the block Market street between 7th and 8th street. It's called the La Cuisine Cafe. On a Spring stroll on Market street in the middle of the Civic Center Plaza block there is a place which opens from 5 am ( for those in the 5am club) to 7pm. I wanted to try their croissant. I wanted to see how it compares with some other flakey ones in SF. The croissant was soft and a bit flakey but it did the job for being a bit tasty. This is place also sells bagels with cream cheese and avocado toast along with salmon toast. They also sell sandwiches. There are a few seats indoors. The outside seating is something else. You see some interesting things on the block just sitting at the table and enjoying the expresso or tea in the concrete jungle. You can also hear some of the San Francisco street noises which make up the Market street soundtrack of the Civic Center Plaza . This is a good spot to watch a street parade or street party also known as an organized protest ( there is always a protest afterparty). This cafe is such a vibe. Located on the ground floor of the same building that houses the San Francisco Law Library, this cafe serves great coffee, sandwiches, and snacks. I love its European aesthetics with its marble tables, high ceilings and Hogwarts-ish paintings meets mid-market vibes--small, narrow space that serves sandwiches, pastries, coffee, chips, snacks, wine, etc. Recent favorites were the pastrami on rye. Well, I gotta say the owner Khalid El Mourabit is a complete obnoxious prick. He runs a Parisian style shop (what does he know about Paris?) When he is there he ruins the vibe so much he's loud particularly rude to women. Maybe it's a Muslim thing idk but I find it crash and unacceptable. The food and coffee is decent which is why I think people go back. But wow if this is the person your money goes to skip. I went here with a friend on Tuesday around 5pm and there was no wait! It's a quiet cafe and the interior of this restaurant is cute, looks classy, and has an ok amount of tables. Ok so, it was both of our first time trying this place, so we decided to share a sandwich. We also weren't that hungry, so we thought splitting it in half would be a good idea for us. We got the Caprese Croissant Sandwich, which is one of the sandwiches displayed on the shelf. The workers asked us if we wanted the sandwich toasted; that's a plus since it's nice having that option. While I was eating the croissant sandwich, I didn't realize how messy it would be. Toasting that sandwich made the croissant SO FLAKY! I'm just glad the sandwich still tasted good though. I'd recommend this place IF you're not planning to talk too much; it was very quiet inside. I tend to prefer cafes that are a bit louder, so it wouldn't feel so awkward to talk if you're with other people. I do like how this cafe stays open later than most cafes in this area. I enjoyed drinking it. The food is amazing. Now, let's talk about the place! It is cute. But it is very cramped. It is a good place to eat quickly and go or grab and go. I was walking by with a friend and we were looking for a place to eat breakfast. Never did we think a small cafe would be the place we absolutely adored! The interior is very small, and can probably only hold 6-7 people comfortably, but the food and staff were phenomenal. The staff was so friendly and bubbly, which was so nice to see. I got a brioche breakfast sandwich and it was absolutely loaded with all the good stuff! Wow looks and reviews can be really deceiving! I don't even know where to start. I guess with getting there. We had just arrived from the airport, tired and hungry, and all we wanted was to eat and go to the hotel. As my gf was driving, I was looking for a place to grab a bite at. This place showed up in my results, and at the first glance, I thought it looked great plus it was pretty close to the hotel we were going to. First things first, finding parking was a b**ch but we managed to find a paid spot a few blocks away. We're not local so we were using maps for directions. It brought us to this old fellow way street which was long, narrow, and very sketchy. We had to go through it all the way just to find out it was closed off and we needed to go around it. We finally found it and I was immediately put off by how tiny the place was. I didn't have much time to really research the place, I just looked at food, so I didn't expect to see the tiniest tables that seat at best one person. I know they're trying to replicate Europe but given that I'm from Europe, small "cosy" places are a definitely a norm there but in a charming neighborhood, with some room inside. Charming or cosy are not the words that come to your mind when you enter this "cafe". Another thing that put me off is that upon entrance that have a tray with pastries and it's an OPEN tray. Not a display tray, actual pastries you can buy, all out in the open. This is just unsanitary. At that point both my gf and I felt like we didn't know what to do. We don't know the area and when walking here didn't see any other places where to eat, we already paid for parking, and some of that time was used when we were looking for this place. So we decided to stay positive and just make the best of the situation. I thought that the menu sounded pretty great and it's the photos of the food that attracted me in the first place. So we gave it a chance. We ordered our food and coffee and went to sit down in the back. The second we got there, there was a strong smell of pee. We went to the front area. I needed to use a restroom and I was given a key with instructions on how to find it. At first it was interesting, I saw a few statues on my way to the restroom, then all of a sudden I needed to enter an area that looked like an abandoned warehouse. Creepy as hell! The bathroom was absolutely disgusting! But I kept telling myself that it's SF, its not the cleanest city, I should just lower my expectations when it comes to cleanliness and accessibility for some things. As long as food is fresh and good, I'll be fine. The food was delivered and it was indeed fresh which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. I ordered a salmon toast and my gf ordered a Salami sandwich. My toast was on a metal plate that didn't feel 100% clean with some green stuff in the corners that I feel like was stuck there for life. Why not use normal plates? Nobody serves cheap metal plates in France! While there's no doubt the ingredients were fresh, we both were surprised just how plain everything tasted. And then we realized why - there was not even a drop of any sauce on any sandwich. My toast came with cream cheese yes but having eggs on it kinda muted it. It required some sort of dressing or sauce. Definitely even more reason with Salami. Her sandwich didn't even have mayo. Personally I think if they made a homemade sauce/dressing, the food would be bomb! But without it, it just lacked flavor. Imagine making a sandwich at home and not adding any mayo, mustard, or any sauce at all. It is essential for flavor. So it was an extremely disappointing experience. I felt the overwhelming need to share my experience so that the next person has all the information and can make an informed decision without any unpleasant surprises. read more

La Cuisine Cafe is located right of UN Plaza in San Francisco. It's a small storefront reminiscent of Parisian cafes; tiny tables, outdoor seating (it was too cold for me on my last visit), baked goods, and coffee always brewing. This is a great morning place if you're in the area for meetings or sightseeing. The owner is friendly and welcoming, as was all the staff I interacted with. They offer a full menu from the simple like pastries or bagels, or the decadent like open faced sandwiches and eggs presented like art. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and the area. They will either serve to eat in or take it to-go, which is helpful in an area where much has closed in the last few years. They have a full selection of bottled and canned drinks including alcohol for later in the day. The coffee is wonderful, strong and hot. I would recommend this place if you find yourself nearby, I was thankful to eat here a few mornings on my last trip. read more

My old boss and I were looking to reminisce over a cup of coffee and came across this place. It had live music outside and seamed cute. It was small a cosy, so fit the bill. It was a bit too cosy for me, I couldn't get around the customer in front to go look at the sandwiches. Also, I didn't see a coffee menu although it was a cafe. Anyway, I just said Mocha, and my friend got an espresso, so that seamed to work. We also ordered a couple sandwiches. Now, this is where I am a bit annoyed, the sandwiches did not say they had onion in the ingredients, and none of the ones in the window had onions, which I am allergic to. But, when it came it has lots of onion on it. I picked it off, but it still tasted like it had a little bit of onion and now my hands smell like onion which makes me sick. I may be a but over sensitive about this, but a sandwich should list its ingredients... My boss said his food was delicious but he didn't touch the expresso. My coffee was ok, and I do have to admit I liked my sandwich, even though it hurt my stomach a bit after So....can't decide if 3 or 4 stars here... I should have known better and should have made sure my food didn't have onions...but I also would just like to be able to just order food easily and know I can eat it. This sandwich was SO good!! Ordered English breakfast sandwich with turkey. It comes on nice bread with turkey, Swiss, egg, avocado, tomato and arugula. It tasted so fresh with some crunch and pepper from the greens. Coffee was also good and super friendly service. I would be a regular if I were local. The inside is tiny, but very cute. Clearly. The cops are all regulars. The yogurt parfaits looked amazing; I would try that next time Only complaint is there are so many homeless around that you feel a little uneasy on the walk and it smells like pee until you replace that with the great restaurant/bakery smells. read more

A little bit of Paris in the TL? Who knew? I've worked near La Cuisine Cafe for nearly nine years but made my first visit only this year. What was I waiting for??? I stopped by one morning on the way to the office and ordered a salmon toast to go. There had been a bit of a mishap earlier, as I had tried to place a pickup order on DoorDash, but because I did it on BART, I wasn't sure if my order had gone through. Sure enough, when I got to the cafe to inquire about my order, it hadn't gone through - not because of the spotty reception in the Bay BART tunnel, but because apparently La Cuisine is not currently working with any of the food delivery apps! The gentleman at the cafe told me they had partnered with the services during COVID but were now no longer using the services, so if you want a pickup order, go in person or call them directly! He apologized for the inconvenience, which was really no fault of his, and I placed my salmon toast order then and there. It took a few minutes, but I was able to take in the quaint European style decor and music, which gave me the vibe of a cross between Versailles and the little sidewalk cafes in Paris. At about 7:45 a.m. there weren't many people there, so I think I got in before the morning rush. My order was ready, and the kind gentleman (the owner?) apologized again and handed me my food. I thanked him and rushed to my desk to dig in. The beautiful salmon toast was a decent size and came loaded with toppings. It was basically everything you'd find on a lox bagel but also with scrambled egg and on wheat bread instead of a bagel. All the flavors worked well together, from the crisp toast to the warm and soft egg, to the salty lox, tangy capers, and crunchy cucumbers and onions. It was delicious and filling. I go into the office only once a week now, which is probably a good thing because I think I could eat one of these every day. Going into the office tomorrow ... can't wait to try something else, or maybe just another salmon toast. read more

They use sriracha aioli on their bread so you know it's lit . The owner is super friendly and have great interpersonal communication skills. He chatted up with 4-7 different customers like they were family. Good customer service and making guests feel like their at home is a big plus. The locals know what's up. This cute cafe is very close to my house and I go here almost twice a week. This place reminds me of Paris, I love their beautifully designed interiors and the ambience. The service is so warm and friendly. We always end up having a conversation with the owner on some topic or the other. Absolutely love the iced mocha here which I usually order. The blueberry muffin is heavenly and better than most of the muffins I have had. I have tried the New York style bagel here a number of times and it's delicious.
