There are so many different fruit combinations and designs to choose from and everything is made fresh daily. Not only are the fruit tarts amazing, but I also really enjoyed the cakes too. I'm not usually a huge pastry person, but if it's from La Farine, I'll definitely go back for a few bites. The tartlet is a perfect little snack and the full size tart would be great to share with others or treat someone for their birthday. The fruits on top (strawberries, mangoes, kiwi, and blackberries) were so fresh, juicy, and sweet. The pastry bottom was buttery and flaky. This fruit tart gets me doing my happy food dance. GenEve: moist chocolate genoise cake, layered with rich milk chocolate mousse, finished with a bittersweet chocolate ganache. a chocolate lovers delight! no alcohol Morning Bun: croissant dough rolled thin, spread with brown sugar and cinnamon, rolled into a log, then cut and baked in muffin pans...nothing short of decadent. my very first time here. i was parked right out front and seen how busy they were; people were just going in and out of there. I walked inside and i'm so indecisive they had so many options. I ended up getting a slice of carrot cake, chocolate cheesecake, a raspberry walnut scone i believe and a cookie that has chocolate chunks, almonds and dried apricots. let me start off by saying the carrot cake is the best carrot cake ive ever had in my life. It was moist and i hate frosting but the frosting wasn't too much it was fantastic i should have gotten a whole cake. i have yet to get reviews for the cheesecake and scone but the cookie was also interesting and was good too. will definitely be back!! read more

I really enjoyed my visit here. I drove to Oakland early for a birthday party, and walked around Piedmont Ave to find some pastries. I came here since not much was open, and I walked in and immediately became overwhelmed by the options for breads and baked goods made fresh daily. The staff were very patient and kind when I could not decide, and I ended up getting a few savory and sweet items to go along with my pour over single origin coffee. There is no iced coffee option, which I was a little surprised by (and I heard others try to order iced as well), but not a ding on their coffee quality at all. They offer bread, cupcakes, cookies, tarts, eclairs, croissants and anything that satisfy your morning munchies. I'd want to keep this place a secret as their fruit tarts are to die for. It's my guilty pleasure when I need a pick me up - combination of sweet and healthy with the fruits decoratively spread across the tart. Five stars for the fruit tart, which was the best fruit tart I've ever had. Many bakeries drench their fruit tarts in unnecessary sugar and simple syrup to hide the fact that the fruit isn't super fresh, but I loved how La Farfine's tart isn't super sweet, so that the fruit has a chance to shine. The tart is loaded with fruit; I would say that if you are more of a custard person, this might not be the fruit tart for you (My husband commented that he wished there was more custard). The flavors felt bright, fresh, and not too sweet, and my friend who graciously brought the fruit tart to our home said the bakery uses "special butter" -- I'm guessing special French imported butter? I wish this wasn't so far from where I live! I'd like to go to the bakery to try their other offerings, but for now, I'll just say the fruit tart was outstanding. read more

The food was good - sometimes dry and too flaky, but overall speaking a good bakery in terms of food taste and quality. The grey hair older white server in this location, however, destroys the customer experience. If you look through the negative reviews, almost all of them was a result from his racist, discriminatory customer service. I have a visible disability and bring with me my service dog. Said server ignored me for a solid 10 minutes, with no other customers in line! When the other cashier prompted him to tend to me, he made a snide remark: "She has a dog with her!" Well, the ADA requires establishments to allow service dogs, and I find it absolutely distasteful and illegal to refuse service to me based on this. Not to mention that my disability (visual) is very, very obvious! When I asked him whether he had a question about my dog, he said no and slammed the tongs at me! Whoever manages this place - maybe this person is a family friend, or even a manager, but you are exposing yourself to problems if you continue to allow your employee to discriminate against disabled people and POCs! read more

Every year for 8+ years I've gotten my birthday cake here. It's the same fruit tarte cake, and it is the best one I've ever had. The balance of everything is amazing. I order fruit tarte everywhere I see one just to try and I still always put this one at top. The baddie working today on Mother's Day with the slick back bun was amazing! She was super patient with me when I already checked out and forgot to grab the cookies and she was nothing but kind and warm and welcoming to everyone! I stopped by to pick up a fresh fruit tart as I was in the area to pick up some paper plates at Safeway for a luncheon. The tart was $29. Service was just ok. The girl helping me wasn't that friendly. But the fresh fruit tart was beautiful and tasted delicious! The fruits were juicy, crust was flakey/buttery, cream custard was not too sweet and had vanilla bean mixed in. I'd definitely get their tart again. Love this bakery & convenient location! I'm disabled, which includes moving slower. I haven't been able to come into the location in a while. I was having a good day and went to get a treat for my partner before the store closed at 5:40pm. I have worked in food service for over 10 years and believe I know what standards of customer service I should receive. I said I haven't been there in a while and the kind young female presenting person of color, who was behind the counter said, "Take your time." Then the other white gray haired male presenting employee accosted me for the next 10 minutes. First by shutting down his co-worker, shouting "No, she cannot take her time, the store is closing soon." (Btw I also identify as a non-binary person of color.) Then continued to make my experience awful by shouting at me and everyone who came after me to hurry up in the rudest manner. Including when a few customers who arrived after me, asked, "When do you close?" He yelled, "5 mins ago!"I looked at my watch and it was 5:45pm and y'all close at 6pm. I gave a two stars instead of one because I appreciated the kindness from the other worker. Also not the bakery's fault, but two other patrons consecutively illegally parked in the disabled parking spot, in front of the store. which i could not use. Was a pretty terrible way to end my one good day out of the house in weeks. read more

The bad is yesterday I went to get some bread and while trying to open the heavy wood door I got a splinter in my finger from the door . My favorite bakery in Berkeley. They have a wide range of baked goods, pastries and cakes. I can safely say that I've tried most of their items and here's what I consistently get. 1) Fruit tart 5/5 - Both the individual or cake size is delicious and I love how they vary the fruit from cake to cake so you can choose your favorite. The berries are always so sweet and plump even not in season. But because it's so fresh I recommend eating it the day you get it or else the crust will get soggy 2) Croutons 5/5 - My number one croutons used from Whole Foods but unfortunately they're seasonal.
