The food here is delicious! The sweet corn cake is a must have, especially since you can't find that anywhere else in the area. It's a nice clean restaurant, and the people are friendly. We went in last Saturday night with a party of 30. I was even surprised we could get in with a group that large but they were able to accommodate us. We had one server for our entire table I have to admit I was very skeptical about the service we were going to receive. Let me tell you ....our server Skyy nailed it!! The drinks came out rather quickly and the food for our entire table was out in about 25 minutes. She managed to keep all of our tickets straight and all of our drinks filled. I found their food to be lacking flavor. We had the Ultimate Fajitas & other than the pulled pork, the meat was bland. The retried beans where runny & bland too. I did enjoy the guacamole, salsa & their fiesta mashed potatoes. Our server was great & the restaurant was clean & had a nice atmosphere. Maybe I'll try something else if we go back. read more

I think we got lost on our way and ended up in some alternate restaurant universe. The restaurant was not busy on the Sunday night when we realized that we were starving; we were on our way home from Austin and the traffic was, as usual, making things difficult. This place was rated well on Yelp, so we went out of our way to have some dinner.... well, we tried to have dinner. We were greeted quickly and led to a booth in a rather hot section of the restaurant. Oh well, nothing a nice glass of iced tea would fix, right? Our server took about 5 minutes getting to us (remember that comment above "not busy"??), by then we were really hot and very thirsty. We ordered: fajitas and a combo plate with a chalupa, taco and enchilada. We opted to start with a cup of queso. The queso tasted like that velveeta/ro-tel dip that people make for potlucks, only it wasn't as good. The chips they serve were just little pieces of broken chips, making it difficult to eat either the queso or the salsa. Our drinks were on empty and had been for a while, so we moved them to the end of our table and that is where they stayed for what seemed like an eternity. FINALLY our food arrived. We had to ask for drink refills. While the server was gone, my husband took a bite of his chaplua and was left with a VERY LONG BLACK HAIR in his mouth. We politely told the server when she returned and her response was "That's not good. well, it isn't mine" then she walked off. My husband and I stared at each other in sheer disbelief; had she really just said that? She returned and asked what we wanted her to do and I asked for the check (we had not touched our dinner plates since she walked off) so we could leave and she said that she's get the manager. He never showed up, but she did come back and tell us that we could leave and that we didn't have to pay for anything. I went to this restaurant today to celebrate Mother's Day and I wish I hadn't gone. First off, it's Tex-Mex. I have rarely tasted Tex-Mex food that is delicious and I was hoping this restaurant would surpass my expectations but it didn't. I ordered the brisket tacos and they were stingy on the meat, and they served it with BBQ. Maybe that's how some people do it but I have never been to a restaurant that serves brisket with BBQ. The charro beans were okay, and the rice was cold. The tortillas were burnt and my boyfriend had their nachos. The nachos were terrible. The chips were stale, the queso was bland, and to it was too greasy. Gordon Ramsay would certainly disapprove and have the restaurant close down a few days until they get it right. It's pretty obvious that the majority of the ingredients they use come from a can. The food was bland and left very little to be desired. The staff are okay but the host did take a while to seat us even though it was a pretty slow day for it being a holiday. However, I did feel uncomfortable because the staff and the customers (who are mostly white) were staring at us and would watch our every move (I'm Mexican). Perhaps I had something in my hair or there's a completely innocent reason for the staring but I did feel a little bit uncomfortable with the restaurant's atmosphere. Overall, don't spend your money at this place, it's not worth it. The food was terrible. read more

Love the fajita fundidos! However, these are NOT for those of you trying to eat healthy - ha ha. Salsa has some heat, but would have loved a hotter option too. I have been going to la fiesta for ever,never would I have thought we would be treated like we were. I asked for a table was taken to a booth,and then was told basically to bad. We would have waited for a table. I love the place even had them cater 2 dinners. So when we asked again for a table was denied we left. We had my moms retirement party here this weekend and the staff was more than accommodating. We had last minute guests that added to the list and they handled it with no questions asked. La Fiesta was ok, but not spectacular. I went to dinner here with 2 ladies, and we all agreed it was just ok. I think our waiter might have been new, which is fine, but I don't think he was very familiar with the menu or hadn't tried enough of the dishes to have a favorite. ( I tend to ask for the waiters advice when I go to a restaurant to see what the staff likes best.) We ordered a margarita, which our server said they were known for. The margaritas were find, but nothing exceptional. They were made with sweet and sour mix, and tasted very much like the margaritas I get at the local cantina for their $1 Rita happy hour special. ( And there I get a floater for a dollar extra, which makes them taste better!) We also ordered the table-side guacamole, which was bland at best. Not a lot of spice, when we asked for them to bring out extra peppers to put in the guac. There was a *lot* of avocado in there however, for which they deserve kudos. It seems that lots of restaurants try to sell "tableside" guacamole, when they really just bring out some pre-made stuff that is half sour cream, half avocado, cut up another half an avocado and throw in some pico, and viola! You have "tableside" guacamole. This place gets props for using lots of avocado. For the main course I ordered the Mahi Mahi Marisco, as did one of my friends, and another ordered a chile relleno. Apparently they messed up the chile relleno order, so our food took quite a while to come out, which was ok - we had a lot of guacamole to eat! But when the main dishes came out, the Mahi Mahi was very overcooked and dry, while our sides were ice cold. They had obviously left the fish sitting under the heat lamp while the sides were left out in the cold. The waiter got us new sides that were much better. The sweet corn cake was very yummy, I definitely recommend trying it. I wouldn't rely on my review of the main dish, since the problems with that were a function of the service and preparation, not the dish itself. A local woman at a conference I was attending recommended this place over another restaurant that had higher ratings on Yelp. I should have listened to the other reviewers! read more

My husband and I recently moved to Waco from San Antonio (home of amazing Tex-Mex) and we immediately began searching for a good restaurant to meet our high standards. We live down the street and on a whim decided to try La Fiesta one night. We discovered what is now one of our favorite spots in town! The margaritas are killer (and strong so watch out!). My husband orders enchiladas and I get the fajitas and we bring all of our friends and family to La Fiesta when they are in town to visit. We had a housewarming party this past weekend and catered La Fiesta's fajita bar. It was a huge success! The staff and managers were so considerate and helpful throughout the entire process. The food was delivered on time and piping hot! Both locals and out of town guests at our party commented on how delicious the food was. Thank you for a continued wonderful experience! read more

Most reviews that a low rating for this place are accurate... my wife and I attended this restaurant one Sunday evening. We sat at the bar and the bar was dirty. The bartender was no where to be found. My mojito i ordered was not good and it took 20 mins just to get chips and salsa. Hostess at the front entrance seemed to have attitudes. Hostess sat us down at a booth with someones old drinks still there, and she didn't even bother to get someone to wipe off the table.
