I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel other members should be aware of my experience with the LA Fitness Mission Bay location in Boca Raton. Several months ago, I called to cancel my membership because my son was getting his own account, and we were trying to reduce expenses while I was unemployed. The manager, Chris, told me over the phone that he would take care of the cancellation himself and save me the trip to the club. My wife and I both clearly remember that conversation because we had been discussing ways to cut costs, and we were genuinely grateful that he offered to help. Fast forward about six months, and I discovered I had been charged every month for both my membership and my son's membership. When I called, Chris said he didn't remember our conversation. I then spoke with another manager, Cookie, who told me there was nothing they could do to help or reimburse me. What made the situation even more frustrating was the inconsistency. I was told that LA Fitness does not allow membership cancellations over the phone. However, during that same phone call, Cookie canceled my membership over the phone herself. She told me I didn't need to sign anything and that she would simply email me a confirmation. I never received the confirmation email, but the point is that she was clearly able to process the cancellation over the phone. That directly contradicts what I was told about it being impossible and supports exactly what Chris had told me months earlier. I've been a loyal member for many years, and this was extremely disappointing. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when they do. In this case, there was no attempt to acknowledge the mistake or offer any reasonable resolution. To make matters worse, this isn't the first issue I've had with membership cancellation at this location. I experienced a similar problem during the COVID period, but I chose not to make a big issue of it at the time. Unfortunately, this experience has left me feeling that customer loyalty isn't valued. If your policy is that cancellations cannot be done over the phone, then employees should never tell customers otherwise. And if they can be canceled over the phone, as was done in my case, then customers should not be told otherwise when they're asking for a resolution. I simply wanted the charges refunded for a cancellation that I was told had already been processed. Instead, I was told there was nothing they could do. I think Mr Bred from the from desk needs to be re-train on how to treat people, specially ladies. This morning my wife and I went to the gym and we happened to interrupt Mr Bred conversation with one of his pal in order to give him our phone number to enter the gym, he wasn't please by that. He told my wife very rude and demanding " you need to download the app" when we said yes but let me give you my number to get in he said " I'll send you a link, you need to download now or else I need ID" my wife said, I'll give you my ID, he then said just give me the number. This gym facility is huge. Largest turf area I have seen at any other South Florida LA Fitness location. There is so much to choose from in the selection of fitness machines. Upstairs, there must be over 20 Matrix treadmills and just as many elliptical machines, too. There are not as many bicycles, but then, there were not as many people using them either. I worked out in mid afternoon, and it was not so crowded inside, and parking was not really a problem. The facility was clean, and everyone was doing their own thing in their own spaces, which was very nice. read more

I am an enthusiastic and religious exerciser. I go to LA Fitness 6 days a week. I enjoy the aquacise classes. They have several gyms all equidistant to my home. I am able to use any one of their gyms. I honestly feel that they have a hard time getting qualified instructors - otherwise they'd have more classes available. No classes on Friday and Sunday? They have a great pool but it's not being utilized enough. They have spin classes and aerobic and Pilates as well as yoga and power classes. I've taken various classes and enjoyed them. The gym is clean and they all have adequate parking. The floor is packed with aerobic machines and weights. The women's locker room has a steam room, whirlpool, lockers, showers and toilets. They also have a sauna which has been out of commission for about a year. I don't know what's up with that. This is at their signature gym in Boynton Beach. There is also child care available. I have belonged to other gyms prior to moving to Florida. I know the difference between a great gym and mediocre one. Unfortunately, this is mediocre but it's available and meets my needs. read more

To follow up with my last report. I finally told management that my symptoms went hay wire after I told my trainer not to push or do certain exercises. My goal was never legal. It was simply to get money back for sessions not used due to illness. How come after Eric and trainer were told I had cervical issues was I given strenuous cervical exercises that from my Dr he believes severe muscle tensions from that area is a cause of my problem. Management at Mission Plaza upon hearing that and my knowledge of the FTC investigating them for not allowing people out of their contracts, FINALLY SEEMED TO CARE. NOT ONLY HAVE I HAD countless er appointments AND BEEN VERY SICK, I HAVE BEEN HARRASSED FOR PAYMENTS BY THIS UNETHICAL COMPANY. Luis Garcia is incompetent I've been a member of West Boca LA Fitness location for years & have watched Luis Garcia slowly destroy the quality & experience of the gym. Luis refused to renew the service equipment contract, which has caused exercise equipment to be broken for months, parts were on back order & "under repair" signs went up all over the gym. I had asked 3 gym employees for Luis to contact me, he ignored my request. I called corporate & was told "LA Fitness doesn't reach out to members, that's not how we do business." Interesting comment considering now that my membership is renewing, I have since received 22 phone calls from LA Fitness, many twice a day, including Sundays. Angela was on the kids play room with no kids seated talking to another employee that work there She said to me:- Hey what's going on ? And She still seated ! I told Her please walk with me I'm going to show you something! Now she stand up from the chair ( this is not a good manners) "That's a man in his underwear in the hot tub " While we walked towards the ladies dressing She said "Why are you concerned if He is dressed? He can dress what whatever He likes and wanted if he is wearing something it's ok white underwear, black underwear! Did you see something? Like his body privates ?" All those questions before she even saw what was going on in the pool area. Angela went there , I followed her and waited at the entrance of the pool watching And she asked them ( 3 men at this time ) if they were wearing anything they said "yes" ! She came back and smiling told me see "I don't understand all your concerns" I told her did you see his underwear ? She said "There is too many bubbles in the whirlpool how could I see it ?" And I answered her :-"You please go back there and ask them to stand up and get out and you can see it ". She did ! She saw him in his white transparent underwear all loose because that kind of fabric isn't ideal for the pool ! She came back to me and said "now I see what you are talking about ." BUT -She did not invited him to leave - she took no action to minimize the problem - what she did was only deny deny deny - she did not said we are taking further action or Whatsoever - this is not an appropriate approach for A Manager - She was rude interrupting when I was talking with her nonsense arguments She left the ladies bathroom with no promises of further communication! This is a sign that the club does not look for good management with the customers that are already there ! To test this theory i went to 4 different LA Fitness and my family in law has a membership and uses the guess pass on me. This one manager he looks pale hispanic thats balding always gelded back said i need a FLORIDA LICENSE JUST FOR A GUESS PASS . All the other 4 gyms literally said thats is full of shit. And all other la fitness gym let me in free of charge and a month guess pass. Makes me think he was being very discriminating towards me which blew me away lol. read more

LA Fitness is much more expensive than other gyms such as Planet Fitness, EOS and YouFit. With this much greater expense, you would expect better equipment, but the pictures below show otherwise. The hours are terrible too, closing at 9 on Fridays and 7 all weekend. LA Fitness is closing even earlier since COVID, and even though COVID is over, they are just gaming hours to cut costs. Most of the other gyms are 24 hours. LA Even closes the doors up to half an hour earlier than the actual closing time, so employees can race for the exit as soon as its closing time. So despite paying all this extra money to join LA Fitness, you end up having about half the hours of another gym. And unlike other gyms, that are happy to get guests and referrals, LA gives you nothing for signing up a friend. You would think they'd be happy to have the business, but they won't even give you a pen or a penny for the referral making them hundreds to thousands of dollars. I took a few days to contemplate making a post like this because of the fact that I have been loyal to LA Fitness for about 10 years until recently. Due to the fact of how mishandled this situation was, I ultimately want my friends and family in the Boca Raton area to be aware of what happened. I would highly advise against bringing your children to be watched at this location, or any locations with the red flags I'm about to mention while you workout. On Wednesday October 5th I picked Jaxon up from the kid's area after my workout. Jaxon said that his back hurt from a kid pushing him. I didn't go to deep into it at the time because kids will be kids and being pushed happens often. When I went to give Jaxon his bath I saw these marks and asked him more questions. I found out that not only did a much bigger kid push him, but he would not let Jaxon up. From what I gathered, these are most likely rug burn marks from being pinned to the floor while Jaxon was struggling to get up. I called LA Fitness and spoke to a manager and he told me that the operations manager would be reaching out to me in the morning once more information was gathered. I just wanted them to look at the camera footage to know which kid did it, and trusted management would be able to react accordingly. The next day nobody called me, so at 3:30 p.m I went to the location in hindsight much more calm than I should have been to cancel my membership, and figure out once and for all what happened. When I got there the operations manager acted like he didn't even know the incident occurred. You would think with something like this it would be the first piece of information he walked into in the morning but nope! At this point I was not livid yet. I just wanted them to look at the camera footage and know who hurt my son. Now here's the kicker. Even though there are cameras covering every square inch of the gym floor, the OM told me there were no cameras in the kid's area because of these exact words: "parents want their kids to have privacy, it's very political". WHAT??? I'm not a gambling man, but I would say at least 9/10 parents would want a camera where their babies are playing while you aren't there in case a situation like this were to happen. Safety heavily outweighs privacy in most scenarios. If anyone is wondering what the real reason why they don't have cameras, it's because they do NOT want to take responsibility for kids getting hurt under their supervision. They spoke to the lady who was supposed to be watching the kids and she had no idea what happened. How the f*** do you not see a big kid pushing and pinning a 3 year old to the floor? Nearly every time I walk into the kids area, the lady who was watching Jaxon that day is on her phone so it makes sense. If we put 2 and 2 together here it clearly equals neglect and unprofessionalism. The way LA Fitness handled this situation makes me sick to my stomach, and I will most certainly be bringing this up the chain to try and make sure nothing like this happens at that location again with anyone else's kid. Parents, please make sure you don't make the same mistake I did of assuming that kids are being watched appropriately, and make sure there are cameras ANYWHERE you drop them off with people you don't know. read more

My cousin sent me 7 days guess pass to try the gym out with her (she is a member). When we got there, they tried to sell me the membership and said that if I don't live here in Florida I couldn't enjoy the guess pass, that I had to either buy the monthly membership or pay $20 for day pass. I read the whole terms and conditions on the guess pass email and it does not say anything about that. I am very disappointed and frustrated that they did not let me try the gym at least for 1 day for free. Friendly, and helpful. That being said I am using this gym for cardio, and occasional lifting. This is not a serious gym. It's a workout gym. They have 1 squat rack, and probably in the afternoon it might be crowded. They do not allow chalk (understandable). There is no platforms for deadlifts, however there is enough equipment to keep you busy. Hammer strength, solid non competition benches, and adequate dumbbells. If you are a powerlifter (I am), body builder, or serious performance athlete you may not like this gym. read more

SET-UP: This is by far the most spacious of LA Fitness gyms that I have attended. The weight area is downstairs with the cardio machines upstairs. There is also a pool and a basketball court. The two guys then got out of the car and one pushed me so hard I flew across the parking lot. The gym looks like it was just redone. It's beautiful inside and super spacious. The treadmills were new and updated which was great. The only thing I didn't love was that all the cardio machines were in the top floor so it got super hot and stuffy very quick. But other than that I enjoyed this gym. I go there for convenience in relation to distance from my home but since I returned I've gotten pretty disgusted with the way this gym looks. If you want to know just how old it is just... Take a look at those tube style Toshiba TV's hanging of which only 3 aren't totally just "green". And yes those numbers on top of the TV's are for FM Radio to hear the sound.... Was that back from when people used to wear walkmans?? Seriously, GREEN TV's?? It's 2014 NOT 1995. Shame on LA Fitness. Now let's get onto the equipment, ripped up benches. Weights that look like rats have chewed on them for the last 10 years.... I'll have to add some pictures... The equipment is the original from when the place opened, I don't think anything has been updated in 10 years, rougly when I first joined. Even the cardio equipment looks so dated I'm not sure what I was thinking when I gave this place my money. I won't be renewing that's for sure. The smell of the carpet is awful, NEVER EVER do a push up or put your face near it as it's got to be the same from when the gym opened. Just completely gross. Ive been a 24 hour fitness member for 15 years and this year, I had to give it up. There are more 24HF clubs in Southern California than LAFit. After moving to Florida, I signed up for Planet Fitness. That was basically a waste of time for me. I did not like their facility nor did they have the equipment and classes I was interested in. I am currently waiting on the opening day for the LA Fitness facility on Powerline Rd. I was given a week pass for this location for the time being. First impression, great entrance. This place is huge. Granted, I wasnt greeted at the door nor were there someone available to assist my sign in. Eventually, someone showed up. Not the best customer service but I didnt really care. This review is strictly about the Facility. Cleanliness - Overall, everything was pretty organized and clean. I did not use their restrooms so, good luck. Cycle Room - LOVED it. Clean. Great temperature. The spin bikes they have available are probably one of the smoothest bikes I've ever been on! Aerobics - Spacious. There were weights all over the place. I dont blame the club for that. Some people just dont know how to clean up after themselves. All machines seemed to be in great working condition. They were all available. Basketball Court - Ill check it out next time. I didnt bring my hoop shoes so I didn't bother to hoop. There were a few runs going on. Great Facility. Parking lot is huge. Been coming to this LA fitness for about 2 years now. I love coming here in the morning. But after 4pm, it is god awful. It is almost impossible to use machines and benches because it is swarmed by 7 high schoolers, at EVERY machine and bench. Can't make it up. There are kids EVERYWHERE!!! They're rude, messy, loud. Here the problem. This location closed for a few months for a full fresh interior build out which included poking the main entrance to a more visible spot at the face of the shopping center. The build out came out nice for the most part. Anything new is going to be nice at first glance. But their issues here are are rooted internally with management. Or lack of. This locations biggest issue was that when they closed to freshen up the place, people were forced to go to other locations. And during that time, you can see how other locations are ran and operate. Which in turn shows how poorly managed this west Boca location was ran prior to the renovation and how this will cleary continue afterwards. This place opened like a week ago, I haven't seen ONE person walking the floor to pick up debris, wipe machines down, sweep, etc, etc. same goes for the bathroom. I'm in construction management, and I laughed to myself seeing concrete dust from the hammer drill used to secure the machines around every leg of every machine. That shows they didn't even care to send a cleaning crew through the gym before they reopened. There's dust against the walls at some places from drywall sanding before paint. Like wouldn't one of the sales agents who are sitting around up front grab the bull by the horns and be like hey let's mop this place it looks like shit? The new vinyl floor is nice but it doesn't hide as much as carpet does. So the fact that this place never gets cleaned, it's only a matter of time till people begin complaining. You can see how dirty it is now. Can't hide it now. Even the front desk seems carefree. Half the time no ones there and it's not a warm welcome or even a hello. Who runs this place? Lol The other location(s) I was glad to go to while this place was closed ALWAYS made sure their spaces were spotless. Always. It was a joy. It's nice knowing they care. I always saw a cleaning person hustling around the gym wiping down cardio machines and picking up sh*t people left behind. Im so glad there's a great location walking distance from my job. A lot of us spend a lot of time at a fitness center weekly. And it sucks when the gym doesn't return the favor and at least pretend they care. Newly and welcomed Operations Manager, Erika, has been nothing but fantastic! She is incredibly sweet, always going above and beyond at her job, and puts a smile not only on my face, but to everyone else that interacts with her by always smiling herself. Ever since Erika arrived, the gym has been running and functioning wonderfully. Weights are always being put back properly. Erika will even do it herself at times just to keep it organized and sufficient! If there is any type of maintenance issue that needs to be resolved, it's always handled in a timely manner. And the overall atmosphere of the gym has been just a breath of fresh air since she started. This business is obviously on cardiac support because they wont even raise the water pressure in the showers above a :LOW TRICKLE. It's reeeeeeely SAD. I had an extremely bad experience with the staff here. I don't know how they are still in business and unless something drastically changes I don't think will be in business for long. I walked in with someone who is already a member and wanted to check the place out. First of all the place was almost empty at 2pm on a Sunday. That was the first clue that this place is in trouble. The counter person told me that since we didn't have a guest pass, a guest workout would cost me $15. He referred me to a salesperson and told me that the sales person could give me a guest pass to try the gym out for the day. The salesperson walked up and the first thing that he said was that he would give me a membership for 90% off. He then said that he could let try the gym out but that he would have to hold my driver license. I thought that was weird and asked him why, he said that the gym has been having security issues. I told that I didn't mind if he made a copy of my license, but that I was not comfortable with him holding my license. He said that the gym doesn't have a copy machine (which is pretty unbelievable) and that if I didn't want them to hold my license I would have to pay $15. I'm not paying half the price of a monthly membership to evaluate a gym that I'm already having a bad experience with the moment I walk through the door. I'm also not going to let a salesperson hold my driver license hostage so that I have to talk to the salesperson. Its funny because I calmly told the salesperson that keeping peoples drivers licenses was a bad policy and that as a salesperson I didn't understand how he was capable of selling anything with the bad experience that I was having. I asked him if he would give his driver license and he didn't answer me, so I said that means you wouldn't. I also told him that just because the gym is having security problems (something else that makes me not want to workout there) I should have to give driver license. To sum it up, I can see why this place is empty and why they would need to offer a 90% discount on a membership. The staff needs training on how to offer a good experience because if this how bad it is when they are putting their best foot forward, I know once you have a year contract with them they are going to treat you even worse. read more

The sauna is very dirty in here. The ground inside is full of dust and garbage. There is a choking smell in the air. How do you enjoy sweating in such a hot and airtight space? Unfortunately this is easily one of the worst gyms I've walked into, ever. I am a group fitness instructor and have walked and spent time in numerous gyms, and this is hands down the worst. The layout of the gym is horrible. There's so space at all, especially beginning around 3:30/4:00-9/10. The place is packed, which is great from a business stand point but because of the layout of all the equipment there is no room to budge. Weights are always all over the place and im always having the walk around the gym to find a matching pair of weights. The music is a joke. I mean I can always wear headphones if I wanted to but they're always playing slow music. There's never any hype music to pump you up for your workout. I haven't had personal experience with their trainers but I see the way some of them treat and train their clients and it breaks my heart. Get off your phone and get off your ass and do what you are being paid to do. Train, teach, motivate, and inspire. Don't just sit there.. Idk about men's bathroom but the women bathroom is SOOO gross. Always. Half of the stalls are usually out of order and it's always dirty and gross. I vist my folks every year in Boca and LA Fitness is the closest gym...In general, it is ineteresting to see how companies react to the recession. The loveable natural food place next door is gone as is wings plus and Linens and Things in a nearby mall Companies more typically react like LA Fitness...That is eradicate all costs...a good idea unless taken to extreme And LA Fitness has gone beyond extreme, way beyoind. First, it is filthy. The locker rooms are a mess, the machines look aged and the carpets is worn from its original color The machines should be handled with salad tongs only...kind of sad, because it is a bag, once beautiful space...but it is a cautionary tale for those who cut costs...you risk future revenues read more

This place was awesome! Machines were up to date. The place was happening with a lot of fit and happy people. Very clean facilities and a nice pool to swim laps. Clark was very accommodating given the fact that I was from out of town and needed a workout. If you need a specific program or plan for membership, he is the man!! 5 stars to this LA fitness read more
