I've been a member of LA Fitness (on and off) since the early 2000s, and I'm really disappointed with the new "No Gym Bags on the Floor" policy at the Long Beach locations. When I originally signed up, there was no rule against having a small gym bag with basic training gear (straps, bands, sleeves, roller, etc.). Now staff are telling us no bags on the floor at all--everything must stay in a locker or car. For anyone who trains seriously, this slows down workouts, makes it harder to use safety/recovery tools, and can even increase the risk of injury when our equipment isn't accessible. What bothers me most is how this was done. There's no clear, easy-to-find bag policy on the LA Fitness website when you sign up. Instead, this rule is being pushed later through local signs and staff, which feels like a unilateral change to what members originally agreed to--and potentially a breach of contract, since the conditions of use are being changed after the fact while dues stay the same. If the concern is theft or safety, there are better options (more security, cameras, size/placement limits) than banning all gym bags for everyone. As a long-time member, this feels like a downgrade in both service and transparency, and LA Fitness should either rethink this policy or be upfront and fair with members who no longer feel they're getting what they signed up for. read more

I like this spot. Three stories tall with a nearby parking structure for parking. This location has a lot of features that other LA Fitness locations do not have like 2 functional racquetball courts, an indoor track, dedicated spin room, a very large jacuzzi, 4-lane pool and even a cold dip. Nobody has a cold dip anymore. There is not a swim school here, so that means if you swim (and I do), you will always get all 4 lanes for swimming rather than closing 50-75% of the pool for swim class. It is like Average Joe's gym. No pretty people or super models making Tik Tok videos of themselves (or very few) and not a bunch of meatheads hogging multiple pieces of equipment at a time. Just everyone getting their workout in. I am a fan of the yoga classes on Tuesday and Wednesday as well. Some negatives: The cold dip is often out of order (guess it takes a lot to keep it running). There is an epidemic of not racking your weights lately (there were 90 lb.-ers way over on the 15 lb. side) and leaving them all over the gym from the corners to up in the aerobics room, to strewn across the indoor track (really?). The elevator is old and slightly Final Destination-y. They are short staffed, so the showers aren't always the cleanest, but the main locker room tends to stay pretty clean. All in all, my go-to spot though. read more

Parking is a nightmare and nonexistent. You have to park in a crowded/ shady parking garage where you're warned multiple times via signs " they're not responsible for any theft or damage to your car". Free weight room is not laid out well and feels overcrowded even though it's a large space. Roughly 8 treadmills which are always in use which is a joke for a gym of that size. read more

wow, this gym looks a bit old and tired, I can appreciate how empty this place is, my normal home LA fitness is usually overrun with a bunch of high school kids so I was pleasantly surprised at how the crowd is a bit more mature. The gym does need some TLC since many of the water fountains were broken, and the equipment were missing grips and the weights are all over the place. overall, I think it's pretty good gym, especially since they have amenities like a pool and raquetball court read more

So I NEVER come to this location even though it's literally 3 minutes from my home. Why? it's a bit rough around the edges aaaaand the staff can be kinda meh. Buuuuut I decided to try a Zumba class on a whim, and let me tell you... JENNIFER. IS. A. VIBE!!!!! *Snaps fingers* She showed up on a Sunday morning with more energy than a double espresso and lit up the whole room! Her moves? Fire! Her playlist? On point. Her energy? Next level. She made sweating feel like a parrrrtaaaay, and suddenly I forgot I was even working out. She's got that infectious positivity that makes you wanna push harder and dance bigger! If you're looking for a Zumba class that feels more like a dance party than a workout, do yourself a favor and catch one of Jennifer V's classes. Guess who will be back next Sunday? That's right! I'm incredibly impressed with the recent update/remodel at this LA Fitness location. The use of space is highly efficient, and the equipment upgrades are a massive improvement. The Good: Strength Floor is Top-Tier (5/5) Space Utilization: The layout is excellent. The gym has really utilized the space well to accommodate more members and diverse training styles. New Equipment: The addition of multiple cable machines and the Rogue racks is fantastic. It feels much more like a serious strength facility. It is also what is needed, it seems like they really analyzed the changes in customer needs over the years. Specialty Machines: The specific addition of glute/butt machines is a thoughtful detail that women will definitely appreciate. Functional Training: The addition of the sled is a nice touch, although the space is small, and they need to provide a harness (and clarify if it's only for personal trainers). Stretching Area: Not sure if there is still an area for this? Always good to have one for warm ups or after the work out with the rollers. Maybe it is there, just couldnt find it on my first walk thru? Areas for Immediate Improvement (Amenities & Cleanliness) Sauna: The new sauna is nice, but a few things need immediate attention: The lights are too bright. Dimmer, softer lighting would improve the relaxing atmosphere significantly. The upper bench is too short for comfortable use. The light wood is already showing marks from shoes on day one. They should consider posting a "No Outside Sneakers" sign to preserve the wood and keep it sanitary. Locker Rooms: The choice of small tiles in the locker rooms is a major flaw, as the numerous grout lines will trap dirt and be difficult to clean consistently. The staff will need to maintain a very strict and rigorous cleaning schedule to keep this area clean. Overall, the core gym floor update is outstanding. However, attention must be paid to the details and ongoing maintenance in the amenity spaces (sauna, locker rooms) to match the quality of the new equipment. Also, the staff announcing putting weights away was a nice touch, seems the staff has renewed pride in the space. Keep it up! We need to stop folks from doing other weird behaviors too, like hogging machines, but with all the new machines, it may be less of an issue. Good job LA Fitness Management! read more

LA Fitness, Long Beach, Cherry Avenue Word of advice, stay as far away from that gym as possible. For the day me and a friend joined, in September there has been nothing but problems. Starting with both of our credit card accounts being hacked for thousands of dollars a few days after enrolling in the gym. Next, I signed up for a personal trainer (Ty), being told he was now a there fulltime; only to find out within three weeks of working with him he was actually only working there three days a week (only one of which fit into my schedule). Actually, I also encountered a problem with them reimbursing me an additional PT enrollment fee, which I was promised would be waived (though they finally reimbursed my account after several text to the Manager). Lastly, the final straw was when I was totally through with the PT situation and requested a cancellation. After going into the facility and requesting the cancellation in person with Ernesto and him telling me he was feeling well but would handle it and email me a confirmation (which occurred over a month ago and still no confirmation of the request); then contacting the Corporate Office several times and in each instance receiving no follow-up. Finally, I emailed the CEO of LA Fitness last week and still have not received a reply. read more

I am writing this to express my dissatisfaction with my recent experiences with this facility. The parking is already a huge headache, but I could deal with it because of the great zumba instructors. But over the past several weeks, the scheduled lessons have been canceled repeatedly, often more than twice a week. Without prior notice, and as a busy mother this sudden change of schedule can throw my whole day off. This lack of communication had cause significant inconvenience and wasted time, especially when I arrived expecting a confirmed lesson. Additionally, when I approached the front desk to address these ongoing issues, the staff members I interacted with were dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. Instead of offering assistance or an explanation, I felt disrespected and disregarded as a customer. I believe that as a paying member, I deserve timely communication regarding schedule changes and respectful treatment from staff. I am requesting that this issue be addressed promptly, that communication practices be improved, and that appropriate actions be taken to ensure members are treated with courtesy. I hope this issue gets resolved as soon as possible and LA fitness will try to work hard to get these things done. read more

If I could get zero stars, I would I come to check in at this gym. They have a kids club right in the front of the lobby. Kids club usually opens up at four. We were 15 minutes early so we sat in the front lobby. There's about five employees sitting at their desk I'm there with my child and nobody cares to tell me that there's no kids club. As soon as you walk into the club, there is a there is a kids club and it says kids club on the door but no sign or nothing. That kids club is not valid at that location I had to literally ask when the girl was gonna show up because it was already after four at that point then they proceeded to tell me that they don't even have kids club at this location and just literally let me sit there for 20 minutes with my kid and didn't even question as to why I was sitting there right after I checked in nobody asked me any questions or even acknowledged to tell me that there's no kids club. It just goes to show that they're very unaware of what's going on in their building. It's truly unfortunate, especially coming from a former LA Fitness employee, we will never be back to this location no wonder they have 2 stars read more

Literally no one cares about la fitness reformer Pilates. I'm not sure which focus group determined the need for it but it's a very specific activity. So many more people could use the spin bikes but no someone determined that Pilates was trending and La fitness needed to be part of it. Bring back the spin bikes. read more

I mean, it's an LA fitness... I've only ever used the weight training area on the 2nd floor. Pros: -Convenient location -Easy to find parking -Easy to cancel membership (this is actually pretty awesome, as I've heard horror stories about trying to cancel memberships) Cons: -Always crowded -Clientele wasn't always respectful. People can be rude & won't let you work in. Curling in front of the dumbbell rack. Using tons of dumbbells. Not reracking weights. -No deadlift platform -Only 2 squat racks and 1 power rack As other reviewers have said, it can feel sketchy at times, but I've personally never had/witnessed an encounter that made me feel outright unsafe or had anything stolen. read more

This location has a pretty low rating compared to the Bellflower location, and I was wondering why. That is the main reason I signed up for that location upon first moving to Long Beach. During the tour, I noticed this place was a very nice 3 story building, a lot of newer equipment, clean, and not too busy for a Monday. The gym manager wanted to sign us up right away, and didn't honor our guest pass, as we were members of the Bellflower location 4 months ago (its in the fine print). I paid for a day pass to work out in the facility and gauge the vibe. Glad I did...a lot of mean mugging, and asking people "do you bang" was happening. Very uncomfortable to be around that environment, as we haven't seen that since high school, about 20 years ago....lol. We are all grown! If this location can do some house cleaning, it would be a very nice place to work out. My husband signed up for a membership, so he will be going in the morning while the "do you bang" people are still sleeping. This is a hard pass for me. FYI: Check to see if your employer offers an Active Fit plan. You get a much better rate. Kaiser also offers Active Fit, and my husband is only paying $28 per month, no commitment, no sign up fee, no yearly maintenance. read more

This is the most masculine, testosterone gym I have been to the new re-model is horrible everything and everyone is so crammed together that its impossbile to work out without touching elbows with someone and whoever made the blueprints for this re-model didn't think of the people who mainly work on cardio machines because I have seen many machines gone. this is horrible i have been a long time member and never expected this, they even took the room with bikes away. don't come here unless you just want to work on your muscles. Recently I had a very disrespectful & abuse of power experience at this LA Fitness here in LBC @ PCH... A young trainer (probably early to mid 20's) was preparing to train a woman on the 3rd Fl. However he very abruptly & rudely stopped everyone in the area from working out. Including interrupting members in-between sets to clear the area for him and his SINGLE client!!!! He displayed ALL the qualities of a young, uninformed, privileged employee abusing his little "power" of being a new trainer!!! Major Fail LA Fitness!!! HIRE BETTER TRAINERS WITH COURTESY!!! I have been going to L A Fitness since 2005, and I am so e what disappointed with showers . The pressure seems to be one less & less. Not to mention that cleaning staff has no regards if your in the shower! They spray cleaner in the next shower and spray on you! There's no soap dish. Often times there are not any disinfecting wipes available, which is unsanitary. I will not be going to this location anymore. Everything is old, broken, the parking structure smells like urine. I've been a member of the Belmont athletic club for years and I love it. However when my membership expired recently I decided to try a different gym because I really wanted access to a swimming pool. I toured a few and ultimately decided to try out LA fitness for a while. I do like that it's month to month with no penalty for canceling. The staff is wonderfully nice and professional. From my first visit to sign up till a month later, today, they've all been very kind. They have a lot of equipment but like a lot of gyms, 90% of the people use 10% of the equipment but for some reason they don't have multiples of the same popular equipment. But all of it seems in good repair and overall clean. The pool is kept to a good temperature and the length is good. The locker room isn't super clean but it's passable. But they lose two stars on one thing in their control and another maybe not but people should be aware. First the showers. It's just basically a pipe. It just pours a tiny stream of water and I don't know if they think they're saving water but myself and other women have commented that you just have to take three times as long in the shower to clean. And since you're showering before and after being in the pool that is a significant amount of water loss. Get shower heads, you cheapos. If I wanted to shower with a hose, I'd stay home. I'm trying to keep your pool clean of contaminants and reduce wear and tear and it's just embarrassing. I feel like a kid at summer camp, not a paying customer. Second the creeps. The nicest part about Belmont athletic club was not once my entire time there did I feel creeped out by other clients. Everyone was always very respectful, and nobody was out there leering. But I have swam in the pool now several times and every single time the hot tub is full of old creeps staring at every woman that comes out of the locker room to the point that I've actually stood there when women younger than myself came out of the locker room to make sure they were safe. There's some creeps on the weight floor as well, it's clear there's a culture of being able to stare at the women and I think LA fitness could do more about that. But the pool is really beyond the pale. At any given time the hot tub is full of like 20 old creeps that make no attempt to even hide that they are eyeballing every woman as we walk to and from the pool. It's disgusting. So women thinking of joining this gym to swim, keep that in mind. It doesn't feel very safe. There's a warm soup loaded with gross men that will make your experience a lot less positive than it should be. And it's true on the weight floor too. You're going to feel like a piece of meat and it's pretty gross. A lot of gyms have done a lot to dissuade that kind of behavior. I feel like here it's encouraged if anything. I'm going to try a different location next and see if it's any better or if it's just LA fitness + their general vibe. read more
