This is one of Oakland's best kept secrets! All of their menu items are delicious and well portioned. Their service is quick and friendly. The outdoor seating is refreshing during the summer. I didn't know what to expect since it's beside the railroad tracks and a bar called Aloha Club but I was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food from La Grana Fish! They have aguachiles and ceviche, birria, mulitas, vampiros, tacos, and aguas frescas! Every plate is perfectly seasoned and savory. I got to try La Grana after being invited to get takeout there with a friend. They sell keto tacos with various meats and a veggie option, pizza mula, baked potatoes, vampiros, mulitas, and birria ramen, among many others. I appreciate the wide range of choices, but admittedly I was not familiar with many of them and the menu mostly just lists the names of the items without an explanation of the ingredients. There are many outdoor picnic tables with umbrellas here, so it's a decent spot to eat outdoors while keeping some distance from others. I ordered the mulita veggie, vampiro veggie, and espinaca con pina which were around $18 total. The food items were quite cheesy and savory and I enjoyed them. As for the espinaca con pina which is juice with spinach and pineapple, I did find the spinach more overpowering than my preference and would've liked a higher ratio of pineapple flavor but I understand this is probably what I should've expected. read more

I wasn't sure what to expect since it's tucked behind the Aloha Club--a bar/dance spot across from Fruitvale BART--but I was pleasantly surprised. Parking was a breeze; there's a small lot on the side (look for the sign that says "Car Wash") plus plenty of street parking nearby. The menu immediately signaled that this place was uniquely different. They feature Sinaloa-region seafood specialties like aguachiles and ceviche, alongside traditional Mexican flavors from other regions (birria, mulitas, vampiros, tacos). I ordered two vampiros and a Baja-style fish taco. My wife opted for the seafood aguachiles, which featured fresh shrimp marinated in tangy lime juice with a spicy blend of chilies, accompanied by crisp cucumbers, red onions, and cilantro. Every dish was perfectly seasoned, and the flavors were amazing. The salsa pairing was also on point--salsa roja had a hotter kick than the verde, which was great even though I might have appreciated a bit more heat. The creamy sauce drizzled on the fish tacos was outstanding. I visited in the winter when it was quite chilly, so the outdoor seating felt a bit brisk; however, I believe this spot would be absolutely perfect on a warm summer day. The vibe was fantastic, too. Sharing outdoor seating with the Aloha Club creates an eclectic atmosphere. One minute, you might catch R.E.M. playing, and the next, a Norteño tune takes over. The whole scene is beautifully harmonious--tacos, great music, and refreshing Modelos. They are known for their queso-birria, although the real star of the show is a lightly battered baja fish taco, that is fried to a golden brown topped with thinly sliced cabbage, pico de gallo and an addictive chipotle crema. I also ordered the pineapple and spinach agua fresca to wash it all down. It was the perfect lunch meal. Seating is spacious with a laid-back brewery feel. The ambience is relaxed, the Aloha club also has good deals on drinks if you want to pop in while you wait for your food. There is another restaurant that has outside seating beside it where I believe you can order cocktails. I saw several people do that and bring their food over there, so gotta love that since they only offer frescas no alcohol. The people working were sweet and super efficient. They encouraged me to get a drink so I tried their horchata. It was so rich, creamy and not overly sweet. Next time I will try the cucumber juice. I ordered one Baja shrimp taco and one chicken taco. One of my favorite spots to hit when I'm in the town. QuesaBirria is amazing! The asada vampiro is my favorite, I definitely recommend that if you like fried cheese also. The vampiro is like a taco and tostada combined. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. You can dine outside or take it back to your car. Great service with decent food but slightly pricey for the birria ramen. I do recommend the tacos though! Food (7/10) - Pretty good food. Ordered a Tapatio combo and 2 shrimp tacos. Starting with the positive, the tacos were really enjoyable! The birria tacos were pretty filled and the shrimp taco was light but really delicious. However, the consommé was also on the blander side (especially for the ramen). Also, the combo as a whole is very heavy and hard to finish without feeling sick so order when eating with someone else! An additional note, do NOT order the birria ramen TO GO. The noodles will be soggy and overcooked by the time you get home. If you order the birria ramen, eat it there. Pricing (7/10) - Decent pricing. Tapatio combo was $21 for the ramen and 2 birria tacos. I think that's a bit expensive considering it is just an instant ramen with broth and meat. As a standalone, it's almost $14 which is a bit on the pricier side. However, I think that tacos are definitely worth the price (seafood tacos around $4 and birria around $5). Other tacos are $3.25. These are all reasonable prices and considering the quality of the tacos, definitely worth it. Service (8/10) - Really nice people working there! The food was served quickly and they were super friendly. I had to wait a bit for my order once I got there but it was because they didn't want the food to get cold. La Grana Fish has one of the best fish tacos in the bay. The execution of the fried fish and shrimp is every I expect out of a fish taco. It has a nice sustained crispiness and was seasoned as well. The real differentiating point of their tacos was their orange sauce which was like a creamier version of Cali Spartans for those who've been in SJ. The cabeza was waaay too overcooked in my opinion. It was really mushy and didn't have texture. I recommend giving it a hard sear on the top before putting it on the taco towards the end of the day when the meat's been stewing for long. While the fish tacos were good, there a spots around LA/SD that really take it up a notch. There's key differentiators like the seasoning on the fish, type of fish, etc, that make them preferable. Terrible experience. The service was awful, the ramen came out cold and the noodles were chewy. Prices don't match the quality at all. The berries they served were dry, and the ramen consommé tasted horrible. On top of that, I found out through the SOS app that they use overused seed oils in their food--a huge red flag since it's basically slow poison.
