We had the seafood cheesecake appetizer. It's a large slice of crab, shrimp in a savory baked cheese cake. It was delicious! Before and throughout our appetizer time, we had a bread basket that was constantly refilled with pizza from the brick oven. yum! I ordered the lunch pork chop and it was amazing. It was perfectly cooked with a sweet glaze. it came with mashed potatoes. I am still dreaming of that pork chop and can't wait to go back there again. Came here for the first time yesterday with a party of 15 for my friends'a graduation dinner. It was pretty packed since it was a Friday night. By the way, the hostess won't sit your table until half your party is there. Understandable. Let's start with the ambience: it was quite loud, dimmed lights, and bright colored walls with creative artwork. There were vibrant, unique chandeliers on the ceilings. I liked it. When you walk in, the bar is right in front and behind it is the dining area. The food: We start off with their complimentary breads, including the infamous "pizza bread." I liked it but I think the yelp tips/reviews hyped it up for me. I kinda wish they had some olive oil on the side so you can dip the breads like other Italian restaurants. I ordered the Linguine Vongole which was a "lighter" dish. Had a bit of spice with some clams, garlic, Italian parsley, and extra virgin olive oil. It was pretty good. One of my other friends ordered the Duck Ravioli, something I was going to order but I'm not a huge fan of ravioli. (It's one of their signature dishes) It was on the sweeter side but I didn't fall in love with it. I didn't think ravioli was worth $20 though.. I love that they have a tray AND a rack to display the desserts. I couldn't stop looking at it when I was there. Everything looked so delicious! I had the chocolate cake. YUM. I liked that it wasn't too sweet because they used dark chocolate. My friends had the white chocolate mouse, creme brûlée, the bread pudding,and the white chocolate cake. I still liked the chocolate cake more. The service: I think our server was the manager since we had a large party. Overall, the service was great. The manager/server was very friendly and attentive. Before I arrived at the restaurant, I was informed that we couldn't split checks but when we finished, he asked us if we wanted to. I'm surprised! I read previous reviews on yelp and apparently they didn't split checks before. He also noted that he didn't include gratuity, which was nice. Most servers wouldn't do that. Bottom line: to be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Italian food. This place is more on the expensive side. I liked it but I didn't love it. I came in last night with my husband for the first time last night. We were immediately greeted and sat right away on a Friday night although we did not make a reservation. The atmosphere is beautiful surrounded by dim lighting and beautiful art. A tad noisy... but classic Frank Sinatra was playing so all is forgiven. We sat in the "bar area" and the service was 5 star. Our waiter Shawn provided the best service we have experienced anywhere in a very long time. He was so nice and made us feel like we were Very Important People :) he even recommended a wine that is my new favorite! Coming back again tonight with my girlfriends and requesting Shawn to take care of us. The food is 10/10. I was recommended the Fieno pasta which was outstanding and an Ice Box for dessert. My husband wanted some veal. I looked at a few menus online. We had a dinner reservation only 2 miles away. We showed up and they didn't have any veal on the menu. We paid for our drinks and left. We found veal on the menu at La Griglia. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. The team service was exceptional! Our water was topped off before it was half empty. Everyone was on point. Our dinner and dessert was prepared beautifully and was so delicious. Everything was served quickly. There was a presence of manager or owner walking around. He asked how we were doing and he even cleared some of our plates. This is the type of service every restaurant should provide for their guests. We will absolutely be returning again. read more

We used to be frequent flyers at the old location and loved it. Both the food and service were dependable. While the new location is beautiful, the atmosphere seems a bit cold and the food is now mediocre at best. We've eaten at this new location three times, and my food has come out lukewarm each time. I ordered an affogato at our most recent visit, and it was disappointing. Gelato was frozen onto the sides and bottom of the cup and a shot of espresso was in the "well." The gelato was inedible. It was chalky and had what I can only describe as crumbly fatty globs in it. It also took forever to melt, which only reinforced the mystery of the gelato. Food and service here are incredible! Will definitely be coming back for its delicious food and friendly service. We started with their complementary which was a great starter for your appetite. We ordered the diver scallops over vegetable risotto and a lobster bisque to share as appetizers and wow! Risotto = creamy and bisque = tasty. Absolutely amazing. They seared the scallops on both sides (which is my fav) and I thoroughly enjoyed. I got the mushroom lasagna for my entree and it's HUGE. A great portion size. I ate half then packed the rest for lunch the next day. It kept great! It was a unique lasagna to try and definitely amazing. It had more creaminess (bechamel I feel) compared to the usual marinara type lasagna. My fiancé ordered the lamb chops which he was obsessed with. The service was on top of it and very friendly. We came with a group of 16 and we had two waiters and they did a phenomenal job. Great place for a dinner gathering. Hello! This place had great customer service and a nice ambiance BUT the food portions were extremely small for the price we paid. Me and a friend were told the main pasta dish (they come cook in front of you) would feed 2-4 but honestly I could've eaten my friend's and I's portion in one setting that's how small they were. Food was good. But experience was sub par. I asked about the happy hour menu, and then the waiter loudly told me that happy hour was at the bar and went on and on how I should have sat there instead. It was very embarrassing and he made a big deal in front of other customers rather than just saying, "Oh sorry, that's only at the bar." As a side note there was a chalkboard sign that said "Happy hour til 7pm" at the front of the restaurant. There was no sign that said "bar only" so there was no way we were supposed to know that. Hadn't been here for many years, we booked a table but there were open seats at the bar and so we sat there. Great atmosphere and excellent cocktails by the barman. The bread selection to get started was delicious and could substitute for the appetizer. However we split a Caeser salad which was delicious. Some glasses of wine we were on our way! My wife had the salmon and I had the rigatoni - we were happy with both. The whole atmosphere was a contributor to Ann enjoyable evening. I'm so disappointed with the "new" La Griglia. My family has been eating at this restaurant for more years that I can recall and the food, ambience, atmosphere and service were always excellent. All I can say is that they've now lost me as a customer. The food has gone downhill. Everything was very salty. The menu options are quite poor compared to the prior menu. Was very excited to try new location. Sat on the beautiful new patio. When we first sat down, we had attentive service. Then once we ordered... Our first course arrived almost one hour after ordered. Restaurant was not full. When we first asked about delay, each person was quick to blame another. Finally the manager came over to apologize and said they would take care of us. I live within walking distance, so we used to stop in for happy hour a lot BC (before Covid). We were meeting up with a friend for dinner and looking for a nice patio, so I suggested La Griglia. I made the reservation on OpenTable where I was advised that my request to sit outside was not guaranteed. So the night before, I stopped in to see what I could do to ensure an outdoor seat. The hostess I spoke with was so friendly and helpful! Obviously, lots of people are more comfortable sitting outside, but the hostess assured me she would do what she could for us. First off...the wait staff was exemplary. The wine we selected was delicious. My dining companions lunch was enjoyed. The negatives...when we walked in, the smell was not good. Either a septic issue or a grease situation in the kitchen. I made my lunch selection based on risotto accompanying the grilled salmon. I love risotto. I make risotto often. I have LOVED LaGriglia for years, and was looking forward to trying the new location. I will not return. The restaurant is lovely, but terribly noisy, our waiter was condescending and negligent. Brought the wine list before the menu. We had to ask for the menu and the cocktail list. The check was the only thing brought in a timely fashion. The comfortable restaurant we had loved has been replaced by a pretentious, off-putting one. The food was acceptable, but definitely not anything found in Italy. My third HRW restaurants!! Woohoo! Gotta love Houston Restaurant Weeks! I made a reservation for two at 8:00pm but for whatever reason, my date had thought that the reservation was for 9:00pm. So when I picked her up, she was NOWHERE near ready. So, I picked up the phone, called La Griglia and told them I was going to be late and requested my reservation to be pushed back to 8:30pm. They obliged, no questions asked. Awesome! Fast forward, we arrived at the restaurant and walked in through the front door to be welcomed by... nobody? the host/hostess table was on the far right side of the entrance. All you see once you walk in is the bar and nobody to greet you. This was my first time being here, so I didn't realize that the maitre d' desk was on the right side. I just kind of stood around by the entry but nobody approached me until I decided to look around and saw the maitre d' desk. However, nobody was there!! -_- I was not amused. So finally somebody came up to us and I told him that I had a reservation. He looked it up and told us that our table was being made ready and soon after, he took us to our table. I guess he failed to see that I had mentioned that I was there for the HRW because when the waiter came around to bring us the menu, he handed us the regular menu and I had to request for the HRW menu. No big deal, though. So, we placed our orders. I opted for the Fazzoletto, followed with Almond Crusted chicken and key lime pie. My date opted for the Gnocchi sage followed with the seafood tortelloni and the chocolate mezzanotte for dessert. We didn't have to wait very long for the food to start coming out. The fazzoletto was YUM! so were the gnocchis. My almond crusted chicken was huge and yummy. The mashed potatoes that came with the chicken was also great. My date's seafood tortelloni was actually really good. I'm not a seafood guy but I tried it and it was heavenly!!! The chocolate mezzanote (or cake, I guess) was REALLY good. I mean, REALLY good. my key lime pie was just eh, but that was about the only thing that was eh. However, after the whole fiasco of not getting greeted when I came, the service at La Griglia was TOP NOTCH! My appetizer came out, I picked up the knife and started using it; within 10 seconds I got a new knife on the table! I picked up my glass to drink, within a couple of minutes someone would be by to fill my glass up. I drank my wine, within minutes, our waiter would come by to pour some more from the bottle. I didn't have to wait for anything (well except to get seated). It was a really great experience. I didn't really know what to expect coming here, but La Griglia definitely exceeded any expectations that I could have. read more

It is sad when the best food was in the bread basket. We had to ask for menus, water and butter at least twice. The waiter got the drink order wrong. The salad was watery and tasteless, lacked some of the ingredients and the pizza tasted bland and pre fab, like out of a box. The dessert was sloppily placed on the plate, lacked character and the fruit was not fresh. We did not finish any parts of the dinner or dessert. The assistant to our waiter was a bit helpful and deserved the tip. No one asked how dinner was... We were looking forward to our dinner because we have been there a few years ago and it was very good back then. We arrived on a Friday night. The valet informed us the fee was $7. That's fine. In the restaurant we were led to the Main dining room. We went 5:15 so early. All the tables for 2 are lined up against the wall like a firing squad. You are NYC close to the other diners. My companion and I chatted with the couples on either side of us. But everyone was taken aback by the fact that there were no other tables for 2 except we did see one couple On the far side but not sure what the story was. The waiter arrived. Can I take your drink order? I'm f he said it once he said it 20 times. We wanted to see the menu first and the wines they made used to have by the glass on West Grey they no longer carry. It's too bad. The head guy said well we carry different wines at different restaurants. Ugh Then we ordered salads and flounder for an entree. The waiter didn't hear my salad as it's ready noisy and he was can I take your drink order and didn't listen. The wine was fine. My salad when it did come was the same name as what used to order and just tasted of onions. The flounder was fishy. We didn't order dessert We left. Got the car. Paid the fee and the valets had messed up every setting in the car. Really? Why would they make the mirrors fold in and not unfold? Makes no sense. What were they doing in my car? We hadn't been in 10 years after going many times for the first 15. So many restaurants have emerged on the Houston dining scene. A somewhat slow Wednesday dinner - not very full. Decor unchanged. Still "eclectic". Service was superb - although how we ended up with 3 different servers... Usual offering of craft cocktails at $10-$12 (the "Texas Manhattan" was way sweet). We had a caprese salad (excellent and HUGE) and a burrata salad (also a major chunk of cheese). Entrees were pappardelle ragu and the pasta of the day (heavy on seafood). Both very good and good sized portions. The only down of the evening was the "chianti by the glass". It bordered on swill. Damages with tip were $130. read more
