It's really sad how far this places gone downhill. The food is awesome; however it's the overall service that has taken the hit. Half the time there are no managers; it's kids pretty much running the place, and most of them act as if they don't know what they're doing; and lately, flatware, silverware as well as glasses have had food still left on them. I came in for lunch and I was very impressed. The service was super-fast and I did not wait very long by the time I served my drink and found a table I was given my food, a young man was so sweet and friendly I believe his name was J.R and took my food once I was done and cleared my table so I can enjoy a few pages of my book while on my lunch break, he was on it with all tables I was very impressed on how he took cared the tables and customers during a busy lunch hour. Ordered take out with my boyfriend and we were very pleased with the quality and portion size of the food. Very warm and the bread was so tasty and fresh. We also topped it off with the cream brûlée cheesecake and the chocolate cake (forgot the name for It) but it was awesome and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. read more

I love and hate this place. It has always been a hit or miss for me. Last week my chicken friand was under-cooked had a hair in it. Yesterday it was sublime. The puff pastry was a delectable golden brown and the filling was perfect (super moist chicken). Thankfully the mushroom cream sauce stays consistent. It's always good. I love dipping my free wheat bread into it. I order to-go here pretty often. Please be sure to check your bag before you leave- I once had a prosciutto and pear salad without any prosciutto. I have tried some of their entrees and it's always been just ok. I'd rather eat their salads and a la carte items like their quiches and potato galletes. Their baked goods are awesome! So my girlfriend and had strolled around parks mall and we had built up an appetite. She had mentioned la Madeline and I said I've never tried it! So we walk in and check the previous yelp reviews, some say service is horrible, however when we went it was Friday around 7pm and I got the French dip and my gf got two soups, the country potatoes and tomato basil, when we got the soup, the country potatoes soup was barely even warm, so I addressed this to one of the staff and he was very nice enough to bring us a new bowl of soup and a piece of pastry which had chicken and mushrooms! Now that's what I call customer service! He definitely changed our perspective on customer service at this store, definitely made my night and my gf's night read more

We are from the North East and don't have this chain. Decided to try it while in town to visit relatives. This a restaurant that can't make up its mind as to whether it is fast food, sit down service or a cafeteria. Everything had to be ordered up front (like fast food), soup and salad were served cafeteria style, sandwiches and crepes and coffee were served. Very confusing! The food was pretty decent (great potato soup!) but decor and atmosphere were sort of cliched French. In short, if there were a "Cracker-barrel" of a French cafe, this would be it. read more

I'm a bit stunned by the three-star overall rating I'm seeing. My wife, my four kids, and I all had a delightful time at this restaurant. It was relatively uncrowded as we were there at the beginning of a Cowboys game, so that didn't hurt. I had an amazing turkey bistro sandwich with bacon. My wife had a sample with a variety of soup and salad. My kids loved their pesto pasta. My wife loved We had a dark cherry and yogurt danish...wow. Magnificent. The food wasn't that bad at all, however there has been a slight mix up between our food with other tables. The whole entire cafeteria/restaurant is really confusing to new customers and proven to be really inefficient. The FACT you need to place your order at the front, go down the line with your table # or Letter and then proceed to ask them what sides you've got even though you placed your sides already to the hostesses... and then proceed to pay and after receive your food an hour later. But the staff is extremely friendly ! Managers are quite slacking with how to deal with a situation. Sad to see that Valeria my favorite staff worker doesn't work there anymore, she was super sweet and very friendly and outstanding at her job! read more

Was extremely disappointed. The hubby and I dropped by for a semi-early Saturday dinner (5:30) and should have realized when a fairly newer restaurant in Waco had a fairly empty appearance on a Saturday in a mall parking lot. The building was cute and the space has been well done. Chose the "dine in" side. Walked in, no real direction or signage on what to do. Apparently the, less than happy, employee wandering around the entrance will eventually ask what entree you want. They key it into an iPad and you then take a cafeteria tray and go down the line picking anything else you may like. The side Ceasar salad was quite nice. Made in front of you, so reasonably fresh. They potato galette was cold and bland. Our entrees arrived before I got through the line with the salad, but that would be fine had the entrees been decent. The chicken crepe was atrocious. They ruined the whole point of a lovely crisp savory crepe by literally drowning it in the sauce. I have never seen a crepe swimming in a sauce like that. There was no texture, just mush. Very sad. The chicken Cordon Bleu pasta was inedible and flavorless. You would think that being a French Bakery, they would at least make decent deserts. The lemon tart had much too much gelatin so that it was rubbery in a crust do thick that it could be sold as a shortbread cookie. Unfortunately the shell was also lacking in flavor. The mini chocolate tart was "interesting". The same flavorless crust, with a dark chocolate filling that honestly didn't taste much like chocolate. Unsure was the beige goo in the middle was. Odd The restaurant is fairly new, one can hope they will dial it in. The do breakfast. Will probably try that before writing it off. Again, disappointing but at least clean. read more

Hit or miss at times AND LOCATION IS HARD TO GET TO WHEN THERE IS TRAFFIC, but I love the food and service so why would I give them a lower rating than 4 hehe. I come here often with some friends and always order the same thing: Chicken Pesto Pasta! Super cheesy, and I love it. I usually opt for the kids meal size and get either a cup of soup or a petit salad, but when I mentioned "hit or miss," sometimes my stomach hurts A LOT afterwards and I even got food poisoning one time from it... but it's so... addicting. The strawberries and creme look so good, but I have yet to try it. However, I do love their cream of mushroom soup and country potato. This location is always busy so be ready to scavenge for seating. I wish they had sweet tea, but that's just because I'm picky. Heh. read more

My mother and I were given bread that was eaten off of. Like it clearly showed the insides were eaten off and just the crust was there. We told one of the workers and she just gave us new bread. Great soup!!!! Frat atmosphere. My kind of place!!! We come here four or five times each year. If you enjoy the sounds of people having a good time, and the sights, sounds and smells of fresh food being prepared just a few feet away, then this place is for you. The process they have here for ordering food makes no sense. As soon as you enter, there is a large crowd by the door, and you're confused as to what is happening. Finally, you see a worker standing behind everyone taking orders. After we gave her our order, she gave us a number and we had to get in line to pay. This is the part that doesn't make sense. We had to get in this line and wait behind all these people ordering salads. While in line, our food was delivered and we hadn't even paid. When we finally got to the register, we were able to order our drinks and pay. Why didn't we have to wait in the salad line just to pay? Then to top it off, they got my order wrong, I just ate it bc I didn't want to deal w the crowds in the front. Too many other places to grab lunch around here, most likely won't be coming back. read more

I have watched la Madeleine on S. Cooper, slowly go down hill the last 20 years. It has never been well-managed and turn-over is high. My friend and I liked to go here after dinner for coffee, dessert and conversation in a place that is not playing loud music. Thursday night at about 7:30 we stopped in. Only one small container of coffee was available, French roast. We had to request that they make decaf. No cream. We were given a carton of cream, not even placed in a small pitcher. Couldn't hear the employee who was "working" the coffee station. I kept having to say, "excuse me?" We had coffee and dessert. At 9:25 the manager came over and said the place was closed and would we leave. What? They've always closed at 10pm! Manager said they now closed at 9 pm. There were very few people in this restaurant during this holiday season, unlike previous years. When we did leave, we checked and nowhere was there a sign stating their hours of operation. Remember when they use to have the bread station? That's disappeared. Cashier tried to give us paper coffee cups even though we said we were eating-in. I asked her for porcelain cups as the paper ones were very wasteful. Seems like this company is headed for bankruptcy unless they wake-up and pay attention to their customers, cleanliness and training. Oh, and after I paid I notice there was a 50 cent charge for inflation. I'll bet the employees don't see any of that! That charge is B.S. Au revoir! read more

Had breakfast here with friends over this past weekend. I had never been to this chain before, but my friends really liked it so we went. There were 4 of us; 3 ordered the French Country breakfast with eggs, meat, croissant and the potato galette, and the other one ordered the American breakfast which is the same as the French Country, just minus the galette. First thing I thought was confusing was that you order right where you come in, they give you a number, you grab a tray, then you get in line to pay and order drinks. The place was packed at 10-ish am on a Saturday, and it was total chaos in the entry way with people trying to figure out where to go and what to do. Instructions for new comers would be welcome so people knew to order first. Also, the ordering kiosk was off to the opposite side of the where you line up to pay - this was also confusing and I noticed several people get directly in line without ordering breakfast, only to then leave the line when they realized they didn't have numbers. Second, when you pay, along the way, you are supposed to grab glasses and mugs and these are interspersed along the line. There is no purpose to the line except maybe to entice you with dessert. Otherwise, if you don't know to grab mugs and glasses, you get to the check out/register and have to go back in the line and squeeze in between other customers who have queued behind you to get your mug/glass. Not a good system. When we paid, we also paid for drinks, which is a separate order from the breakfast order. We got 3 drinks and a water. All the drinks are self service. This seems silly to me. Why not order the drinks when you order the breakfast and just pay for everything at the register? Tables were hard to find for a group of 4 since the place was so packed. We managed to find one, but it was not that clean, and we had to take a chair from another table. As soon as we sat down, a person came out to tell us that they had run out of galette (really? At 10-ish am on a Saturday? Isn't this peak breakfast time?? Shouldn't there be enough of the item that is on the #1 most popular, namesake breakfast of the place??). He told us it would be about 5 minutes after our other breakfasts were served before we would get the potatoes, for those of us who had the French Country breakfasts. That sounded OK. However, after our breakfasts came out, we started to eat since the food was warm; after 10 min passed we asked another server about the galette and were told it was in the oven. We ended up waiting a full half hour for the galette. By this time we were long finished with breakfast and just sitting there waiting. The galette was obviously fresh, piping hot, and very tasty, but worth a 30-min wait? We had nothing else to do so enjoyed each other's company, but it would have been nicer to have the galette with breakfast. Or to have them refund some of our money for the long wait. I probably would not go here again, and I do not recommend you go if you plan to go at such a peak time. Probably better to go off hours when they are more organized and have everything ready/in stock. read more

I have been coming here since they opened years ago. The food and service has always been good until lately. It took over 30 minutes for my daughter to get a chicken salad sandwich! I was almost finished eating when it finally arrived. The service was crappy. Most of them standing around looking like they didn't want to be there. No apologies for the late food. Have been to this location multiple times and I USED to be quite satisfied. Today, it took 34 minutes to get a cold chicken salad sandwich with a side salad with no apology. There wasn't enough chicken salad, as if they were rationing it. The strawberry with cream desert had cheese in it because cheese had been dropped into the cream area. On top of this, I encountered the most RUDE person who told me I couldn't sit at a table because I didn't have my food yet. Tables were dirty while workers were slowly walking around.
