    Salade Sampler

Perfect spot for lunch, I like the cafeteria style set up and the free bread and different jam options. Everything was fresh and delicious.

Convenient location and the décor is cute! Very French country feel to the restaurant! I ordered a to-go Café Sampler, which includes one hot item and two soups or salads. For my hot item, I chose the Quiche Lorraine, and for my sides I got French Onion Soup and their Seasonal Spinach Salad, which is the Strawberry Spinach Bacon Salade. The soup was a 4 out of 10. Although their French Onion Soup has a rich, robust broth and has the perfect amount of onions, it's very salty - and I'm saying this as a person who loves salty foods! Then there is the problem with the cheese and croutons. They come separately, so it's a DIY soup. But they give you the chintziest amount of cheese! I mean a teeny tiny small amount! I understand croutons are obviously dried bread, but they were hard as rocks! The garlicky flavor was nice, but if one has braces or had dental work done, they should be hesitant to bite into one of these! The quiche was very flavorful! The crust was falling off the portion they gave me, so it does not make for a nice picture. But I did enjoy the savory richness. I give it an 8 out of 10. The salad was also very good! I liked the combination of strawberries, spinach, pecans, and feta cheese. It went nicely with their French vinaigrette. The only problem I have with it is the amount of French vinaigrette they gave me. Again, the chintziest cup! I poured it on the salad, replaced the lid and shook it up. Most of the spinach leaves were not blessed with the dressing, no matter how much I shook it up! There was simply not enough there. Due to the lack of dressing, I give it a 6 out of 10. Too bad because the dressing is quite tasty! Overall, I give La Madeleine a 6/10 o(3 out of 5 stars). My improvements would be cut back on the amount of salt in the French Onion Soup, give way more cheese for the takeout orders (perhaps the cheese would balance the saltiness and it wouldn't be so overwhelming!), and give more dressing for the to-go salads.

My cheese shreds for my soup sampler (potato, tomato basil, & French onion) that were extra in a little bag looked like they possibly and mold on them. I noticed as I finished my salad and one of The soups. Needless to say I couldn't unsee it and didn't want to ask the staff as it was a very slow evening for them and I didn't want to cause any trouble.

I got food delivered from here, and it all tasted good as I remember from this chain, but the portions were way smaller. Over the years I've seen them shrink portions (like the smaller "large" lemon tart they changed like 6 years ago.... Never forget....) but I was pretty surprised by the takeout portions. When I used to order pasta in person, they would fill up a pretty big plate. The amount I got today was somewhere in between a side and regular portion. It looks like the container was made to hold an entree amount, but they didn't fill it up. It was tasty though. My iced coffee tasted ok, the bread and tart were good. The side salad had literally the smallest amount of dressing I've ever seen accompany a salad. It was enough for like two bites. I'm known for taking very little dressing on my salads but this was ridiculous lol.

For years I have loved the soups at La Madeleine's as well as the patisserie. The Provençal vegetable soup is my new favorite. The soup is full of veggies and always taste fresh and not overly salty. La Mads is a staple lunch or early dinner spot for me and the food is always good. The consistency and quality have remained over the years. Baton Rouge is a tough crowd for restaurants and I'm glad La Mads has remained. From fresh salads and soups to amazing pastry and sweets there's always something to look forward to.

Lovely potato soup. Creamy tomato soup. Delicious chicken Caesar salad. Delicious assortment of delectable pastries. Wonderful breads to eat in and take home. The decor is European French countryside. Amenable staff.

Neat atmosphere but the food is bland, and slightly overpriced and the service is slow and can be a bit rude.

My husband had an omelette with peppers and bacon, and he really enjoyed it. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

I was craving a sanwhich, so I got the half Caprese sandwich with a side of fruit. You order at the counter, and if part of your meal can be made right there, then it is. The fruit could be made right there, so they gave me the fruit cup and then gave me a number for my sandwich. It took a minute for the sandwich to come out, but they have free bread slices by the fountain machine that I got while I waited. When my sandwich came out, I devoured it. That's where the surprise came from - it is really, really good! The baguette was toasted to perfection and balanced the amount of cheese very well. The pasta was refreshing and also surprisingly good. I thought it would be a very "tomatoey" salad, but it wasn't. All flavors are well balanced, mostly. Personally, I'm not a fan of green onions, so to me this pasta was a little heavy on those, but easy enough to pick them out. The Turkey Bistro also very delicious! The sun dried tomato mayo goes so well with the turkey. The toasted bread is a little hard so be cautious of that if it can be an issue. Tomato basil soup was very good, a little too chunky for my taste but still taste good. Loved the free dipping bread for soaking up all the delicious soups and sauces. Extremely friendly and helpful staff! I loved the quaint cafe vibes. The bathroom was very clean and easy access. Lots of parking as it's next to Barnes and Nobles. 5/5 Will return soon!

Despite not being a big coffee enthusiast, I have come to appreciate all they've brought to the table as a serious coffee destination. As a venue, it's a beautiful spot with a good amount of outdoor and indoor seating. Their creative use of branding with lots of yellow, distinctive fonts, and merch are displayed throughout the store, becoming a central theme of their decor. Coupled with natural lighting, plenty of seating, good WiFi and a cool display of their brewing process, it's evident they've taken big steps to ensure their venue is one of the least ordinary establishments in the city. They honed their craft in New Orleans and have managed to do the same here. Their New Orleans iced coffee was dark and potent, while their Japanese slow drip aka Oji drip iced coffee was pleasantly delightful. The cafe au lait is classic and a nice rendition compared to the many places that do the same throughout the state. The macchiato, cappuccinos, and americanos also deserve their own mention. Like any quality coffee place, they sell all kinds of different coffee brews by the bag both online and in store. They also sell food as well ranging from breakfast items to salads and sandwiches. Avocado toast seems to be a big hit here, but they have a wide range of open-faced toasts that includes smoked salmon, pimento and prosciutto. I am definitely eyeing their croissant sandwich for future visit. Prices are standard foodflation but I think the coffee and the ambiance will always be the central focus. They have a good amount of people on staff and therefore the waits are never too long. Customer services on point and the bathrooms are very clean. Parking is available in the back and there is limited street parking as well. With locations in Memphis as well as the OG in New Orleans, they should be very proud that they've done well in Baton Rouge.
