Came here looking for my sugar fix to help me get across the country. Here's what I got: Chocolate croissant - flakey and crisp on the outside, moist and buttery on the inside, 2 continuous strips of chocolate running through the entire pastry. Used dark chocolate. Delicious. Loved this a lot. Didn't feel heavy at all. Mini blueberry muffin. Light, fluffy, moist, but most importantly, not too sweet. The brown sugar gives it a crisp crust on the outside. Buttery on the inside. Sadly, lacking any blueberry flavors. In fact, itskinda hard to detect what flavor it is in general. Madeline - almost like a pound cake, except heavier. But the taste surprisingly does not cling to your pallete. Almost refreshing. Moist and lemony on the inside. A little bit too sweet for me though. My favorite pastry was definitely the chocolate croissant, It was everything that I wanted it to be, whereas with the other muffin, i wanted more blueberries, and I felt that the Madeline was a little too heavy. To me, I feel that comparing this place against a breakfast joint (which I just came from) is incorrect. The crowd and price point is competitive against places like starbucks (especially since they have a pastry section). Given a choice, I would rather come here to get a coffee and pastry for breakfast or a snack than a starbucks. And they offer minis of most pastries so you can indulge without feeling guilty. Three of us had lunch here today, and all three said we wouldn't order the dishes again! My friend Z's crepe Romanoff were nothing spectacular. She found them too sweet. Z did like the French roast coffee though, and the fact that the refills were free! I ordered the half croque monsieur sandwich, tomato basil pasta, and tomato soup. The pasta definitely lacked flavor and was cold--as if it had just been retrieved from the fridge. My sandwich was overdone to a dark brown color, and smelt burnt at the edges of the bread. The soup was the only saving grace in my meal. K got a pork and beans dish. I tasted some and found it very bland. This review is based on their food food, not baked goodies! I ordered the French Dip Sandwich and it came with a Tomato Basil Soup and Pasta salad on the side. The Au Jus broth was a little bit too salty for me but the sandwich was great! I could have easily ate it without the sauce. And the Tomato Basil Soup was amazing!! It had slight chunks of tomato instead of it being completely pureed and I loved it! The pasta salad was well, just pasta. I have always enjoyed the food here. When I walked in, the floor and bottoms of the walls were disgusting. There were flys in the restaurant, and the little flys at the bread/jelly bar were too much. Confused staff; didn't know the menu. Three employees just sitting in the dining area doing nothing. Dirty silverware and no spoons for soup which is a major menu item. Quiche Florentine was overcooked or sat under the heat lamp too long. Asked for some butter for the not fresh bread and the staff didn't seem to know where it was. Wife ordered the Chicken Friand and because it wasn't under the lamp it took 30 mins to cook. Always had a good experience at La Madelines but never again at this location. read more

Dirty dishes! I've been coming to La Madeleine for a while now, but recently, I've noticed that it seems all of their drink glasses are consistently dirty. One of them even had lipstick on it! There were hardly any people in the restaurant at the time that I went, and there was one person working the bakery counter and no one working the line. There were two employees walking around and after I waited behind two people in line and it was my turn to order, the person at the register informed me that he had to go make drinks for people who already had their food and I would have to wait for him to take my order. I don't know what the other peoples jobs were but they didn't look like they were busy. I just put my tray down and walked out. I was not greeted the entire time I stood there and waited and then when it was my turn I was told I would have to wait. Not acceptable. Nine days after I post this, and I am asked to send some thing to customer relations, I've never received a response. They just didn't like being humiliated in public but in private they'll never respond to me. read more

I went to La Madeleine's today because for some reason Walk-Ons at Corporate doesn't want to make more mozzarella sticks to meet the demand. I'm saying, I arrived at open time and the take-out app was saying that the gooey cheese sticks were sold out--AT OPENING TIME?! Anyway, I placed an order through La Madeleine's online app for chicken pesto pasta and a deliciously cold coca-cola. I pulled up and naturally, all the curbside pick-up spots were occupied; so, I parked in the handicap spot (relax I'm disabled and I have a plate, not a hang tag, to prove it...no crime here). I placed the order at 11:15 am and the promised time for pick-up was 11:30 am. Because I was coming from Walk-Ons across the street I was there within 5 minutes. I waited and called at 11:30 am and I gave the young lady the make and model of my car so she could locate me. She said the order wasn't finished yet; but that she would bring it out once it was done. I ended up waiting 30 minutes for my food. I had to call again to check the status of my order. It was the same young lady who previously answered the phone. I stated who I was again and what I was there to do and she asked me for the make and model of my car again; which tells me she forgot that I was sitting outside waiting for my order. She brought it out immediately after the call. Once I got home, the food was cold, not even a hint of warmth to indicate that the food was once hot and she didn't put my crusty breadstick in the bag; which I was looking forward to using to sop up the little pulls of sauce that would be left behind from the pasta. The chicken pesto pasta was delectable, but it is always yummy. So La Madeleine's lost two stars because of the wait, the cold food, and the missing breadstick. read more

La Madeleine's is a chain restaurant that serves French country-side fare. The atmosphere and decor is very "Frech countryside", adding a certain amount of authenticity. You are served, somewhat cafeteria style as you grab a tray and move down a line, ordering as you move along. This makes the service very efficient. The menu consists of soups, salads, sandwiches, assorted entrees, and a plethora of yummy pastries. I adore their French onion soup and Strawberry Romanoff. They also offer free french bread with butter and jam. The Jefferson location offers a large, covered patio on which to dine. read more

LOVE this place. A family favorite. Their soups are perfect- I love the tomato basil, hubby loves the potato. Delicious chicken salad sandwich. Also love their Caesar salads. The Strawberry Napoleon is sooo good. They have good and inexpensive breakfasts too. Surprised by all the negative feedback. It's always packed and everyone I know has either never been or loves it. We've been going for years, never had any issues. My only complaint is that for some things your choices is side is chips or pasta, no substitutions. I try to eat low-carb, chips AND pasta, plus whatever bread is w/ the sandwich = way too many carbs! At least let people choose something else for their side. read more

I waited at least 50 minutes after my order was supposed to be ready and I had called twice to inform them I was there when they said they would have it right out to me. After waiting those 50 minutes I went inside and my order was sitting there for who knows how long. I then paid and left and by the time I ate my food it was soggy and cold. read more

How long does it take to cook eggs and bacon??? Apparently it takes a whole hour. We ordered the American breakfast and the breakfast croissant and it took them an hour to get it out to us. There was a time when La Mad's was the "new thing" in Baton Rouge - about 25-30 years ago. Now it's just same thing, different day. The things we like most on the menu are the French Onion Soup and the Tomato Soup... soup is good. The pastry's are "nice," but there are better to be had. Lately, having noticed loaves on bread on racks in plastic wraps like you'd see at the grocery store, I've begun to wonder if they bake their own bread any longer. I frequent this place because it's in the dead center of town and I often hold various types of meetings for business and volunteer organizations there over coffee. But it's a confusing chaotic mess with ubiquitously poor service. I still cannot figure out how in the world to place an order or where one starts along the serving line to tell people what you want. And forget trying to get something as simple as an iced tea. It involves waiting at the cash register for someone to acknowledge you're a human, then telling you the glasses are back down the line four steps, then charging you $3 for the privilege of pouring it yourself. French onion soup is not so bad, but I can make better at home. Coffee is ok. I have had a crepe recipe there with seafood that, I must admit, was just succulent and I do recommend it. I'll keep going back because it's so darned convenient and, once you're seated and keeping to yourself, they don't bother you and you can refill your coffee as often as you like. Also, they usually have little bread samples with honey or jams so one can order a cup of coffee and fill up on free bread and call it breakfast for $2.50 (the cost of coffee or thereabouts). read more

I was in town for business & stopped here for lunch. It has ample seating making it easy to find a small table for one, which was nice. I had the turkey blt, which was not bad but not great either. The tomato basil soup was delicious. I agree with a previous reviewer, I'm not a fan of the cafeteria style of it (but it wasn't terrible). Service was quick and very friendly. They also did a good job of cleaning up after a table was vacated. If I could give it an extra half star I probably would. read more

Young lady taking orders (diamond) kept leaving in the middle of taking orders. Someone asked her twice if she needed help and she said no. I asked her what came on a sandwich and she said I don't know. When someone else arrived they did not acknowledge any of the guest that how how piled up in the line and were unable to order due to diamond continuously walking away. There were hardly any desserts in case to choose from. The ordering and getting food part took over 40 minutes. My food was terrible something was funky and old tasting about the sandwich and pasta salad and the Caesar salad was nearly empty in the container with hardly any dressing. I'm flabbergasted with how terrible this experience was since I have been to this location multiple times before. There was a roach on the front of the counter and flies flying around the food. No one was professional and the phone kept going off with people asking for the manager and someone kept telling them they weren't there so obviously many people are having issues. read more

This restaurant would be a great change up from the heavy tasty food options that the typical Louisiana person is accustom to. This is an American interpretation of a French Café. I like some of food they offer but don't go here thinking you're going to be WOWED. The salads are pretty large. The location is great being that it's in an area of high traffic volume and also being that it's across the street from The Town Center. The service here is always great and you should give them a try. read more

I've been to this La Madeleine at lot, but I have never sat down to review it. I've also never been during the lunch rush before, and I have to say that, for the first time, I can understand what some reviewers have said about the service here - not great. Normally, I come during off peak times to have a late lunch or a snack or something along those lines, but this location definitely does a booming lunch business & has a hard time handling it. The cashier at the take out/pastry counter didn't seem to be well-trained, and the poor girl helping her (who was constantly running between the kitchen & the register) looked like she wanted to spit nails. I can't say I blame her - they were slammed and just didn't have the personnel to handle it. I got the Chicken La Madeleine with risotto & broccoli, and it was pretty good. The broccoli was a little over done, but that could be attributed to taking a car ride with steaming hot broccoli in a plastic box. The flavor of everything, though, was good. I will definitely order Chicken La Madeleine again. :) I'm going to try to go back again during the lunch rush to see if my experience is the same since, usually, the service is better - at least when the restaurant is calmer. My only other note is that this La Madeleine often has tables that need to be bussed, even when they aren't that busy. read more

Came here again for lunch and a young lady with short blonde hair was working incredibly hard to provide excellent service and support to other staff members. I am really pleased to see it as usually staff move slowly and seem irritated. The sandwich order was incorrect again but she corrected it for me happily and offered me a free bakery item. read more

Haven't been to this place in forever. My co-worker and I stopped in for lunch and was pretty excited since its been a while. It was 11:45am and the place was packed. The line to order moved swiftly which was good. Our food came out in a timely manner despite being really busy. Our food was good but if I had to be picky the sauce in my pasta was a little too runny for my taste. It was still tasty and won't stop me from visiting again though. This is an unfortunate review because I LOVE La Madeleine food! I have been frequenting this restaurant for years in Texas and the food here in Louisiana is just as good. I would recommend their potato soup and chicken cesar any day. This review is because of their terrible online ordering system. The order is placed easily enough, but somewhere between the order being placed and it making it to their system it disappears. Like *poof*, they say "it must have gone to another location" and I show them on my phone, indeed it was this location. Alas, I have to wait on an order that was supposed to be ready when I arrived. I don't want to walk into a restaurant and feel like I'm the freakin' waiter. That said, the food is good and prepared really well. I ordered the new French toast dish with a side of egg and bacon. The French toast would have been good if it was hot but there was no hope for the eggs and bacon. The eggs literally taste like water leading me to believe that they may have been powdered... GROSS (and inedible)! The bacon was basically all fat, thin, and cold. I was shockingly surprised how awful the food was. I have been to La Madeleine several times and I have never had this experience. I am hoping it is just his location... I returned here after a month hiatus hoping for some improvement. This place used to be a breakfast favorite but I noticed it was declining. After screwing up my Americano order three times in a row and serving the breakfast before the coffee I decided to take a break. Unfortunately things haven't improved. The staff is rude and discourteous, and is more interested in joking with each other and eating bakery snacks than serving their customers. They screwed up the coffee order again. The counter employee complained about the 6 AM start. The silver lining here is the food. Kudos to the chef, I think he's the only one interested in actually doing his job right. I won't be coming back. In this town there are far too many better options for food. Make sure you try those first before wasting your money on overpriced food and coffee coupled with terrible service. read more
