This has been one of my daughter's "go-to" places for delivery or take-out during here college career at Loyola. Today, my wife and I tried it for the first time; and thoroughly enjoyed it. She had the Quiche Lorraine and I had a Croissant Sandwich with scrambled eggs, ham, and cheddar. Her's was good, and we both agreed mine was excellent! I ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich, coffee, and Nutella muffin through Uber Eats. I don't like giving negative reviews and I understand delivery can be unpredictable. But this was disappointing. My order was missing the Nutella muffin. I'm not able to determine whether the store was out or the driver took it, because the paper bag was not secured at the top. Of course, I should have checked before they left but not sure what difference it would make. I hadn't had my coffee. The croissant sandwich was small. The egg and bacon strips hung off the edges off the croissant, which made it a little unwieldy and messy. I added some strawberry jam and it's a good thing because they apparently didn't season their eggs and use unsalted butter in the croissant dough. So now we know. Coffee was hot and not bad. I'm not sure I'll order takeout from here again. read more

August 2011: Went to New Orleans and tried this chain. Had a good time but don't remember the place being particularly memorable. July 2022: Almost eleven years later and there we were again. I was whatever about going, but my companion really wanted to go. Something about this reminding him of food from home. Have to say as someone who lived in France I don't see it, but okay, whatever works for you. I was pretty stuffed, so I had a spinach quiche and a lemon madeleine. The dessert was better than the entree, and even then, I've had better and I've had worse. Again, not impressed. This felt like a wannabe French Picadilly in that sense that it's cafeteria style. Nothing wrong with the cafeteria food, but for all the desire of wanting to go back there, it didn't really live up to the hype. Meanwhile, my companion had a tomato basil soup, a chicken friand, a potato galette, and a pain au chocolat. I know when in Rome, do as the Romans do and what not, but it was excessive. I just stayed quiet. Maybe my thoughts would be wrong. Nope. Way too much food. Not good, not bad, just okay food, and that was coming from him that wanted to go back so desperately. Would I return? Possibly. If it's in the area and there's nothing else that catches my eye, sure. Would I go out of my way for it? Definitely not. Life is too short for merely decent grub. read more

To me, this is a 'must visit' French cafe at the end of St Charles. Not only the staff is pleasant and efficient; but also, their foods, including pastries, are excellent. This visit I chose a nicely baked light pastry with chicken and mushrooms,; but also large sweet strawberries with cream sauce and a soft mushroom soup. I am never disappointed here. The drive thru the Garden District is always a plus. Even though the cafe only has a few parking spaces, going at an 'off time' has always had a space for my Jeep. Terrible all around. Store cleanliness, food quality and SERVICE!!! I went for some coffee and dessert and the pastries looked old. When I asked for my item, the server (a man with a terrible attitude) snapped at me and said not every thing was out in the case bc it was broken. I politely placed my order of bakery items and coffee. When I asked to modify my drink order, I was given a bunch of attitude and he called the manager to edit the order. They did. I asked for my receipt and he snapped at me again because the machine wasn't working fast enough for him to print and he continued to mumble to himself in an aggressive way. I couldn't understand what he was saying but it t made me and my guest VERY UNCOMFORTABLE! Once we finally sat down to eat, the pastries were stale and soggy but I didn't dare go back to ask for something different much less complain after the experience we had while ordering. The place was filthy which was not my experience at the other Madeleine locations ( Elmwood and Severn). If you're a soup lover, do yourself a favor and check out some of their offerings. I'm taken with their tomato basil, especially when I pair it with their kids' grilled cheese. The grilled cheese is one of their options for the little ones, but I've never had a problem ordering it. And then there's the mushroom soup. Mmmmmmm. It's earthy and rich, and it should be eaten with the complimentary bread. Oh, and slather the complimentary bread with the complimentary butter first. You're welcome. There are so many other items that I love here - ALL of the salads, especially the pecan cranberry wild field salad. It's got sweet and salty flavors, and it's delicious. The chicken salad is a winner too - so perfect on one of their flaky, buttery croissants. Their breads and pastries are fresh and I've never had something from their bakery that I wasn't completely satisfied with. My only complaints are that the restaurant is tiny and somewhat cramped, and the parking lot is usually full. There's street parking, thank goodness, so I just park and hoof it. Pandemic review: I was looking for some place open for takeout on Sunday morning on Mother's Day. A friend gets take out from La Madeleine pretty often and said that the contactless system was pretty good. Welp. Not on Sunday. Ordering was easy and their website is very easy to use and customize what you want. And at the moment it also includes some basic groceries, like milk and fruit which is great. When I arrived to pick up my order, the emailed instructions said just call from your car and someone would bring it out. I called 10x. Out of those 10, I was immediately disconnect 6 or 7 times. On the 3 or 4 times I was able to get into the menu to let them know I was outside, I was disconnect every time before I got to that point. So I went inside (defeating the whole contactless thing), and was told that their phone was acting up. Of course, the customer before me was unmasked and clueless. The staff was all wearing masks and were friendly. My order was large and we were only missing a single side item which of course I didn't notice until I got to my parents' house. An even bigger problem with this system (besides it breaking down), is that there was no way to tip while ordering. So the staff of the restaurant who are potentially exposing themselves could be doing so for the less than minimum wage that is legal here. And you know most folks do not even realize that a tip should be offered. read more

I am writing a follow up review because I believe if I can write something negative about a company, and something positive comes from it, then I owe it to everyone reading to relay that information as well. I responded to the message received on the review and wrote to them. A couple days later, I received a phone call from Jason, the manager of the store. He listened to all my concerns, and apologized profusely. He stated the front of the store workers were newly hired and he was definitely going to re-educate them on cross-contamination and changing gloves. He assured me there were boxes and boxes of gloves available for the staff to use. He addressed all my concerns and I felt heard, which goes a long way. I appreciated the phone call and felt like he took my concerns seriously. He didn't make excuses or downplay anything. He asked if I wanted anything for compensation, which I declined. He asked me if I would ever reconsider returning. I agreed to return one day. I will give them a chance to make positive changes and go back to see if it has taken effect. Kudos to Jason and la Madeleine for reaching out and reacting positively. Goes a long way to customer relations. I gave the 3 star review because yes, I am a fan of how they responded, but I need to go back and see if changes actually occurred. If so, I will be happy to write a new review with more stars. read more

Ordered a breakfast croissant takeout from here with avocado. The croissant was delicious! but I was so off put by the obviously rotten avocado they included in the takeout box (see photo). Kind of unbelievable that someone would serve an avocado that looks that way. read more

Sometimes you just need something light for dinner, and La Madeleine is perfect for just that! The online ordering process was simple and user-friendly, and you are able to select what time you'd like to pick up for. The pick-up process was easy, though there were quite a few people waiting in line and not much social distancing. The food, once we got home to eat, was delicious and correct. I don't remember what the sandwich is, but I got the chicken salad croissant which came with one side. Love their croissant! The Cesar salad ingredients were bagged separately so that it didn't get soggy. Prices were decent too. Next time, I'll pass on the French onion soup. Not very good, pretty salty. read more

I have not tried their pastries (yet), but I'm a fan of their salads. The one I got was full of delicious pecans and cranberries, and the vinaigrette was very well balanced. The perfect lunch on a hot summer day. It's a pleasant place to chill for a while. So disappointed. This used to be pretty good, but went for breakfast this morning and wasn't a good experience. I got the American breakfast. The croissant was hard and cold. The scrambled eggs were good but I like salt and pepper, and they were out of pepper. Not a packet or shaker in the house. (Someone went in the kitchen to look but never came back.)Then the coffee out of the large dispenser was COLD. This morning I used their app for the first time to order a mocha and croissant- the croissant was free since I got the app! Extremely fast, nice service! The mocha is pretty good- not the best I've ever had because it's not super chocolatey or coffee-forward, but still way better than Starbucks. A little pricey. The croissant was also pretty good- pretty average. I wish they had given it to me warm and with butter and jam. Other than that, La Madeleine has always been a go-to for my family, and I look forward to the day we can all go back fearless in person and share free bread and jam! read more

Staff is always changing, not well organized or operated. Coffee pots are Mr Coffee home pots with no labels and everyone is picking up the same two pots without any sanitizing. We stopped here on our way to the zoo for breakfast. It can't say enough good things about it -- so adorable, amazing service, and great food. We may go back for breakfast again tomorrow before we leave! Everything we tasted was incredible. There is some parking and if you get there super early you can park in the lot. We stopped by La Madeleine to pick up a baguette for a friend back home. The place itself was fairly difficult to get to and even harder to park at but we eventually made it inside. It's a cute little bakery/cafe with various sweet and savory offerings. We obviously picked up a baguette as well as some lemon mandolins and creme brule. They bagged up our sweets quickly checked us out and we were out the door! The french bread was good, with a crispy out shell and soft center. I did really enjoy my creme brule with it's creamy texture and sharp vanilla flavor. All in all, I liked La Madeleine. It's a nice little bakery in NOLA. read more

The management needs to get it together. The staff was kind and prompt and on top of things. The place was clean and tables promptly bussed. The food I ordered was obviously old and reheated. That's a management issue. I left it on my plate. I rarely do that. The girl at the register was great, but obviously wasn't trained on the register- again that's a manager problem, not her. She was smart and quick and on top of things, but was fumbling through a software program and asking for help. That's not her- that's her manager. Everything was fully stocked and looked neat on the tables with the drinks and bread but behind that there were boxes for straws and napkins, dirty looking etc just thrown behind everything under the table or under the table or in the corner. Again, this is a management problem. Workers are obviously doing great jobs with what they are being supplied but the management needs to get it together. I didn't complain because it's obviously the type of place that, it wouldn't help. It was so mismanaged that it wouldn't have made a difference. I won't be going back to this location. Also, to corporate: bring back the spinach pochette. I've missed it. I'd like it available in the elmwood location or at Severn ave. read more
