    Delicious Croissant Sandwich!
    Fred M.

La Madeleine is the perfect spot if you are looking for a quick, tasty, bite in an inviting setting. This has been one of my daughter's "go-to" places for delivery or take-out during here college career at Loyola. Today, my wife and I tried it for the first time; and thoroughly enjoyed it. She had the Quiche Lorraine and I had a Croissant Sandwich with scrambled eggs, ham, and cheddar. Her's was good, and we both agreed mine was excellent! The croissant was one of the best I've ever had. Service is friendly, and the place is clean. I highly recommend it if you are in the area and looking for a quick breakfast or lunch.

August 2011: Went to New Orleans and tried this chain. Had a good time but don't remember the place being particularly memorable. July 2022: Almost eleven years later and there we were again. I was whatever about going, but my companion really wanted to go. Something about this reminding him of food from home. Have to say as someone who lived in France I don't see it, but okay, whatever works for you. I was pretty stuffed, so I had a spinach quiche and a lemon madeleine. The dessert was better than the entree, and even then, I've had better and I've had worse. Again, not impressed. This felt like a wannabe French Picadilly in that sense that it's cafeteria style. Nothing wrong with the cafeteria food, but for all the desire of wanting to go back there, it didn't really live up to the hype. Meanwhile, my companion had a tomato basil soup, a chicken friand, a potato galette, and a pain au chocolat. I know when in Rome, do as the Romans do and what not, but it was excessive. I just stayed quiet. Maybe my thoughts would be wrong. Nope. Way too much food. Not good, not bad, just okay food, and that was coming from him that wanted to go back so desperately. Would I return? Possibly. If it's in the area and there's nothing else that catches my eye, sure. Would I go out of my way for it? Definitely not. Life is too short for merely decent grub.

Mushroom soup, chicken mix puff pastry and Spring salad with pecans & cranberries

To me, this is a 'must visit' French cafe at the end of St Charles. Not only the staff is pleasant and efficient; but also, their foods, including pastries, are excellent. This visit I chose a nicely baked light pastry with chicken and mushrooms,; but also large sweet strawberries with cream sauce and a soft mushroom soup. I am never disappointed here. The drive thru the Garden District is always a plus. Even though the cafe only has a few parking spaces, going at an 'off time' has always had a space for my Jeep. ( this visit also had a Jeep park next to me, which I 'had' to 'duck' with a fun Valentine duck

The pasta plates were amazing. The crepe was not as hot as I would have liked but the potato soup was really good. Nice place to go outside the French quarter when your visiting the city.

If you're a soup lover, do yourself a favor and check out some of their offerings. I'm taken with their tomato basil, especially when I pair it with their kids' grilled cheese. The grilled cheese is one of their options for the little ones, but I've never had a problem ordering it. And then there's the mushroom soup. Mmmmmmm. It's earthy and rich, and it should be eaten with the complimentary bread. Oh, and slather the complimentary bread with the complimentary butter first. You're welcome. There are so many other items that I love here - ALL of the salads, especially the pecan cranberry wild field salad. It's got sweet and salty flavors, and it's delicious. The chicken salad is a winner too - so perfect on one of their flaky, buttery croissants. Their breads and pastries are fresh and I've never had something from their bakery that I wasn't completely satisfied with. My only complaints are that the restaurant is tiny and somewhat cramped, and the parking lot is usually full. There's street parking, thank goodness, so I just park and hoof it. It's a gorgeous area and on a pretty day I enjoy the walk.

I am not sure why there are so many staff and everyone is waiting so long for service. Is the phone orders consuming the kitchen? Are staff under paid or not trained well. This location used to be a place I could recommend but now I will avoid in the future. We waited an hour for breakfast which anyone should be able to produce in Jess time. You need management assistance. They ran out of bacon. Geez. Not a good experience. The staff are trying but they need help.

Always love the salad and soup....in all honesty it's a fast filling bite to eat while you go about your busy day as well as a place for conversation over some good coffee and pastries. Menu options are definitely on the lighter side and will no disappoint you.

breakfast croissant with spoiled avocado :(

Ordered a breakfast croissant takeout from here with avocado. The croissant was delicious! but I was so off put by the obviously rotten avocado they included in the takeout box (see photo). Kind of unbelievable that someone would serve an avocado that looks that way.

Sometimes you just need something light for dinner, and La Madeleine is perfect for just that! The online ordering process was simple and user-friendly, and you are able to select what time you'd like to pick up for. The pick-up process was easy, though there were quite a few people waiting in line and not much social distancing. The food, once we got home to eat, was delicious and correct. I don't remember what the sandwich is, but I got the chicken salad croissant which came with one side. Love their croissant! The Cesar salad ingredients were bagged separately so that it didn't get soggy. Prices were decent too. Next time, I'll pass on the French onion soup. Not very good, pretty salty.

    Delicious cranberry pecan salad.

Still a New Orleans Gem - Visitor since 2018!…read more I'm updating my review as of April 2026 because it's important for visitors to know that The Vintage has absolutely "still got it." My last review was in 2020, and I'm happy to report that the quality and atmosphere remain top notch. Whether you are looking for a morning pick up or an evening wind-down, this spot covers all the bases. Their beignets and coffee are a classic must have, and I can personally vouch for their Americano. It is consistently well made and delicious. They also have a great selection of beer and cocktails if you're looking for something a bit stronger. What really sets this place apart, though, is the hospitality. We have always had great interactions with the staff, but a special shout out goes to Jimmy, whom we met this past week. He was incredibly kind and hospitable, truly making us feel right at home. Jimmy if you are reading this, THANK YOU!! If you want a spot that feels authentic, welcoming, and consistently excellent, put The Vintage at the top of your list!

I paired it with the shrimp and it was tasty! According to the hop on/off bus the beignets & champagne are the hit at this cafe. The bartender made a wonderful cocktail with champagne & it was delicious! The spot is dog friendly & in a cute little restaurant/bar row & shops area.

Do not come here for food if you need to be out in less than 20 min. A bagel and coffee regularly takes 15-20 min (I've timed it- I come here a lot). This time, I order the same bagel (plain with cream cheese), she accidentally rings me up for a lox bagel. No worries, I just ask if they can do the one I ordered instead. She snarkily says "well you ordered a lox so that's what I made you." No ma'am, I did not, nor have I ever in the 3 years I've been coming here and ordered the same bagel every time. Then proceeds to loudly mutter to the employees about her frustration with me. I jokingly say (trying to lighten the mood) "I was wondering why it was more expensive!" Also important note here- they do not post their prices anywhere. I hadn't been in for a while and just assumed inflation had hit them too. She issues me a refund, then in front of other customers says "Next time the price looks wrong tell me." I don't mind mistakes at all, this was a simple miscommunication. What I do mind is being chastised and spoken down to for YOUR mistake. If I'm spending $13 for a coffee and bagel, I don't need to be talked to like a child.

This bread, crackling crust and airy, sour-sweet, Is more than sustenance; it is a prayer For all who gather, breaking bread to greet The morning light, and taste the love baked there; A grace that rises softly through the air. Yet one delight eludes my hungry heart: The one for whom my eager soul is yearning. I call to the Creator, source of every part, Their absence stains the loaf, the fields, the burning Of longing that the rising sun keeps turning. Grant me solace, Creator, as seasons spin. Above, within the ancient oaks outside, Two yellow birds in sunlit rapture sing, Echoing the baker's joy, the pride Of daily blessings, simple, sanctified. I picked: a large fluffy maple roll. The outside reminded me of a croissant in the best way with some mild maple sweetness and the inside was moist, pillowy, and rich. I heated it up in the oven next day which made it even better. A square coconut roll... crisp and flaky on the outside with the most delightful sweet coconut cream inside and flaked almonds on top. This was my favorite. Will get multiple next time. And a pair of taro rolls. These I was most excited for as I love taro, and they weren't bad at all, but were probably my least favorite of the 3, purely because they had an eggy aftertaste. They weren't overly sweet with a nice smooth taro filling. I also tried a taro milk tea with soy milk. These normally include lavender too, but I asked for mine without.
