It is a nice quiet bakery/ restaurant. I went there on Friday with a friend . The atmospher was quiet, clean, sweets were ok. However, the customer service was horrible. My caramel latte was served cold twice. No one care to come back to our table to even ask, if the orders were correct (it was not). I have to remind them what they missed, after I was already charged for the bake goods. There is lack of corrdination for sure. sadly, I really wanted to like la Madeleine and wanted to tell my friends that it is better than Starbucks. Lunch here is ok, but breakfast is really good. My "go to" item is the breakfast crepe and its pretty good. You have the option to pick 3 ingredients and it comes out relatively quickly from the kitchen. I wish they also offered a fruit or other "desert" option crepe as part of the menu. The dark roast coffee is very good, but during busy am times; they tend to run out and have an attitude if you ask them to get a new pot ready. Just got back from eating a nice, delicious breakfast from the warm and cozy Madeleine Cafe. Service was great due to the fact that we got our food pretty quick. And as you are waiting you get to munch on some fresh baked bread that's available to all for free, along with some classic butter and the AMAZING blackberry and strawberry spreads/jams! I ordered the two-style eggs with egg whites as my choice, two sliced tomatoes, and a warm croissant! The croissant is a must-have with your eggs, it's so crispy and soft! I also had a cup of warm, hearty oatmeal topped with blueberries and strawberries and I thought it was pretty good! My friends had the crepe with eggs and some other jazz, she told me it was delicious! I enjoyed my food as well as my friend and we will DEFINITELY come back for more! I was not greeted walking in, and stood at the counter for five minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my existence. The restaurant was practically empty as well, so it's not like they were busy. I finally had to ask a lady who was putting away dishes for a menu as none were displayed on the wall, and she pointed to one. I ordered a caramel latte, a white chocolate lemon cookie, and three lemon Madeleines. I was not asked if I wanted the lemon Madeline's heated, as I usually am asked at Tyson's, and I didn't want to trouble the lady more. At the end of my experience there, a gentleman in a red shirt quickly gave me a takeaway bag when I asked which was the promptness service I had experienced my whole time there. I know they will be going through renovations soon, but customer service needs to be stepped up as I felt like a nuisance the whole time I ordered. Very lovely staff members here! My family and I had often went to La Madeleine to enjoy their French selections before COVID so we were sad to not be able to come in as often. Today, however, after running out of water on my bike ride, I happened to come across La Madeleine and one of the staff members immediately came and opened the door to welcome me in. I told her that I was not dining but just in need of a water refill and she was still more than happy to help. Without hesitation she offered me ice and when I asked her for a cup of hot water she was more than happy to bring that out for me too. This was our first time visiting la Madeleine. We heard lot of positive feed back we were excited to try it. My daughter loves going to French cafes so she was very excited. My food was really good but my daughter didn't touch hers. The menu didn't have descriptions it just said chicken , broccoli and rice. So she was expecting grilled chicken with side broccoli and rice but what she got was something like risotto with lot of different things in it topped with cheese. She didn't touch any of it. Rather than that I also got coffee in my way out and the cashier was very nice and friendly. The same with the lady who brought our food. She was very sweet and asked my daughter why she didn't eat her food. That was really nice. The pastries also looked very good. Next time we will give it a try. My family has a tradition of going to La Madeline for breakfast whenever we can all get together and it never disappoints us. We are also a huge fan of their cakes for special occasions. Delicious choices: For breakfast, I usually order a create-your-own omelette which comes with a croissant and slices of tomato. Plus they have free bread on a self-serve table. The jams taste homemade and are rich in flavor. I highly recommend the darker one. Cheesecake. So. Good. I used to not like cheesecake, but after having the one at La Madeline, it is all I want for my birthday! ... & every other holiday. So rich, and perfect density. Coconut cake seems to be the favorite of the other members of my family. It is light, fluffy, and sweetly satisfying. Things worth trying: The fruit tart is pretty average, but considering how good fruit tarts generally are, I recommend this as well. The baguettes are excellently priced and just as good as any other I have had. I like to ask for olive oil if I am staying at the cafe to dip my bread in (: they are generous in giving 1/4 cup of olive oil. Strawberries romanoff- has a bit of a rum punch to it that threw me off at first, but I did end up really enjoying it once I had a few more bites. Had a very uncomfortable and creepy encounter with the gentleman greeting lunchgoers--he called me by name and pretended to know me after he saw my name on my work badge. Also called me "sweetie" and did not wash hands or use gloves to make my salad. Tables are not clean--we sat behind the bread counter next to some bookshelves, all were incredibly dusty and had carmelized onion caked to the bookshelf and covered in grime. Not very appealing. The food smelled amazing so we decided to stay for lunch. The quiche Lorraine's crust was completely under baked. The mushroom soup was tasty, but cold. The pasta was too al dente. What a letdown. However, the most disturbing thing was eating and looking up and seeing a gigantic spiderweb blowing in the corner. This restaurant has given up and doesn't care about quality. I used to love this location and came here often. I have not visited that frequently lately and my last visit was quite a disappointment. I came for a slice of Sacher torte, which they still make better than in Vienna, Austria - moist, fresh and well balanced in flavors. However, this time it felt like an institutional cafeteria based on a combination of factors. There was definitely lack of customer service ( no greeting, no eye contact from the staff, I was the second one in line with 4 staff members behind the counter, and it took forever to get to me), overall food quality was disappointing: the Florentine quiche crust was soggy and the quiche had little taste or texture. The soup was too salty. Neither were hot enough. Finally, everything from the trays to the indoor and outdoor tables felt sticky and a bit dirty. The fork I got from the silverware cubby had unwashed red lipstick on it. So sad to see it decrease in quality and service. The cleanliness situation is an easy fix. The rest is the restaurant's choice depending on the kind of customers they want to keep. I will come back for the cake because it's heavenly but will probably only get it to go from now on. The potatoes were good. My son ordered the crossiant sandwich and could only taste the croissant. There was no fresh bread for us to munch on while waiting. Their tomato basil soup used to be one of our favorites, but when we visited the Reston location this week, we noticed that the soup was UNNECESSARILY salty! We are trying to avoid sodium overload, and a good garden-fresh soup does NOT need added salt, so this really dismayed us! I thought I'd snack on part of a potato gallette, but it was completely obvious that the one I got had been sitting in the warming counter all day! It was barely edible! There were no knives to spread butter or jam on the croissants or breads. When asking for a clean glass we were handed dirty glasses twice, ultimately opting for plastic after being laughed at for turning down the dirty glasswear. The aesthetics are nice, I felt like I was in someone's family friendly home. You can order to go/pay in advance, but I stayed to eat this time. Love La Mad! I normally get the eggs benedict but they have a wide selection of food in general. They don't sell the eggs benedict after I think 2 though. So you grab a number or letter and they take your order. You can choose something from right in front of you like the cold pastas or have a hot dish. There is extra bread there which is cool and self-serving. I got the turkey & provolone with a side Caesar salad. The turkey & provolone had a ton of meat and veggies in it and the Caesar tasted exactly like what all caesars taste like. It gives a relaxed, Provençal feel to the little Reston strip mall across from the town center. Although I try to eat healthy most days, there are times when only a bite of something sweet will do!
