Your silverware that u leave in the dishwasher container in the main dining is not hygienic. People are standing around instead of helping or cleaning . This place has awful customer service. Every single time we come here we think it'll be better, but it's not. We come back for the food which is why I gave it two stars but the experience really makes me want to give it one star. First of all, none of the employees on the line wear gloves, which I think is downright disgusting, not to mention one of the workers has long fingernails (TMI I know, sorry!) Along with being unsanitary, you wait in line and hardly anyone working there greets you. They all look miserable! Also, most of the time the employees have no idea what they're doing, and one time I had to show them the item on their screen. Some of them are nice, but most just seem irritated/incompetent. La Madeleine really has that French sandwich shop feel. My wife and I really enjoy coming here for a relaxing lunch with great quality products and service. We usually split a whole sandwich (French dip) with a side of their delicious pasta salad. We add an extra order of the pasta salad to make it a really filling meal without breaking the bank. The baguette they use for the sandwich is really crispy, chewy and tasty, a perfect vehicle for the tender slices of beef and melty cheese. It also comes with a savory au jus which compliments the dip really well. We fell in love with the tangy and zesty pasta salad when we first tried it and always add an extra side because it's pretty darn tasty. One amazing thing about La Madeleine is that they offer complimentary breads, jams and butter. It's a fantastic way to keep the guests full and happy when you have tasty jam to shmear on delicious bread. It's great when you have a hot cup of tea to sip and enjoy. read more

Upon entering I saw stand of menu items in front of me, cafeteria-style system to the left, and a coffee & pastry/to-go register on the right. + Thank you to the sweet lady cleaning for bringing the cashier out! - Attention to Customers: I felt unwelcomed. Possibly because it was off peak hours, many of the employees were having their lunch/breakfast but also standing at the pastry counter for minutes trying to grab any employees attention was beyond difficult. I personally felt like everyone was purposely avoiding me. It emanates a traditional French cafe vibe that would arrest your imagination every time that you are looking for comfort food. The spectrum of their bakery products span over a range of flavours to suit every palate and draw every sweet -tooth towards itself. Lip smacking Creme Brulee Cup and Cheesecake, Strawberry Napoleon Cake (I haven't tried them yet), mouth watering Chocolate Tarts, rich and glazed Fruit Tarts, Coconut Cream Cakes, fresh Croissants, Muffins (blueberry, chocolate) and Sacher Torte Parfait, sit in the display case, ready to take you on a guilt trip, but, it is thoroughly a delectable one. Creme Brulee cup was my first choice and I'm so glad that it was. It was simply amazing - the smooth, velvety texture of this caramel custard renders such a mouthfeel that your taste buds dance to the tune of its flavour. The moist custard base is perfectly balanced by the torched caramel crunch on the top. I ordered a Cafe Sampler with a Strawberry & Bacon Spinach salad, their signature Tomato Basil soup (which they also sell, packed in jars) and half a portion of Quiche Florentine. I occupied a table near the fireplace and without any further ado started digging in my Creme Brulee while awaiting the sampler. In ten minutes, the platter was served; the salad combination had intrigued me and after tasting, it managed, successfully, to impress with its flair of flavours. Accompanying the salad was a cup of Tomato Basil soup, which is rightly called their signature soup - it is a hearty cream based soup with a tangy flavour of vine ripened tomatoes spiked with the freshness of basil. Honestly I wish I could give less than a one star review. Went in here to get a coffee and a tart - simple enough! I get in a long line and there's an employee taking orders as you go through this cafeteria style queue. She takes the order in front and behind me, and even the other patrons point out she overlooked me. There's then a moment of awkward confusion where I just ask "do I order from you?" And she says "no, at the register" ok? Get to the register and order a double latte then ask what kind of tarts they have as there was no display case in the queue. Turns out it was around on the other side. She says "I don't know, you can go look but you'll have to get back in line". Welp, not doing that, so just the coffee it is. Twenty minutes later I go up as I am still coffeeless. They again look at me like an inconvenience as I ask why it takes twenty minutes to make a double latte. Yeah, they forgot completely. We came to this location on a Saturday night after a very bad experience at a nearby restaurant. The manager was very helpful offering to get orders and refill the bread basket. Our sandwich orders came out very fast, and the bread was excellent on the Chicken Parisien! It was soft, warm, and not too crusted to cut the inside of your mouth like some other places. The inside of the restaurant was busy, but clean, and it salvaged what could have been a very bad evening out for dinner. My wife ordered the Croque Monsieur and could only finish half of it. It was a good value! All of the drinks were full, but there was some missing condiments that were refilled as we left. We were very pleased with our meal. read more

This place is delicious! They offer a variety of sandwiches, soups, and by far my favorite, pastries. If you enjoy soup, I recommend the Tomato Basil. It is creamy and not to tangy. The French onion soup is good as well however it is not your original French Onion soup it has more of a modern twist. The sandwiches are delicious as well. However you can not leave this place without trying one of the pastries. They have many kinds including salty and sweet ones depending on your mood or the time of day. I like this restaurant. I can recommend the Florentine Quiche and Potato Soup. The bathrooms were clean when I visited. There is also an audible French lesson in the bathroom which was educational--I learned un, deux, tres, cuat, cinq.... I like the free WiFi here. I only wish there were more outlets to recharge my cell phone when surfing here. This felt like a staycation to Europe without the hassle of getting on a plane. read more

DO NOT REWARD POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH REPEAT PATRONAGE I cannot in good conscience recommend La Madeleine of Reston, VA, to our family & friends until they make a sincere effort to improve customer service. For the past several visits, service has been consistently poor between mistaken orders and rude service. We will not be rewarding this restaurant with our continued patronage. Staff has been rude with our family on multiple occasions. The latest being this morning when my father asked for Splenda while pouring coffee from the "coffee station" (various coffee carafes with sugar and sugar substitutes beside it). He politely asked one of the staff for Splenda, only to be barked at "there's some there!" He told her there was Equal and Sweet & Low but no Splenda, she replied "Go get it yourself! It's at every table." I interrupted, asked her to please provide her guests with Splenda. She threw a handful of Splenda packets at us. I did speak with the manager today who addressed our mistaken order (we ordered 3 identical omelettes for 3 of us, but got the wrong order for 2 of them) and the poor service experience today. She was very polite, told us that she will be speaking with her staff, and made a sincere effort to make our experience better by refunding our order. I will be following up this review with a letter to La Madeleine's management. The ambiance and cuisine of Le Madeleine is always enjoyable, but it is a shame that we cannot say the same about the service. Le Madeleine truly needs to address and educate their staff in courteous customer service and diligence. read more

Although I don't make it out to these parts of the Commonwealth very often, I stopped by La Madeleine last week for lunch after visiting a friend that lives in the neighborhood. Prior to dining here, I had only been to the La Madeleine in Bethesda years ago, so I was a bit clumsy with my ordering. I didn't really know who to order from, whether foods were listed somewhere or only on a menu or even if carryout was an option. Luckily, I was helped quickly and schooled on how to score some food and keep it moving. I ordered a soup and sandwich combo - half of a chicken cordon bleu with some creamy, tomato basil soup. It was warming, comforting and delicious and yet a bit predictable still. Yes, the chicken was a tad bit on the dry side, but overall a winning combination. You can also choose to have chips or a small salad accompany this combo too for no additional charge! And since I sometimes face computer anxiety (the desire to be no where for more than a few hours without being able to boot up) I was delighted to find that the cozy, rustic dining space had outlets for me! I come here often with my boss because we like to get away from the office sometimes and like I said. You feel at home here and the food is happy food to your stomach. Their pot pie looks like something grandma would have baked you. I like to order the chicken la madeleine. It is quite tasty. And their is bottomless bread and variety of jams for you. La Madeleine has been a staple in our family for nearly two decades. However, on our most recent visit--Mother's Day--I've sadly been forced to admit that this place has gone downhill. Firstly, when we walk in (and it was very busy), there was no one at the counter to take my family's order. Instead, it looked like it was social hour back there. Which continued throughout the entire time our family was ordering. We each got a variation on the Cafe Sampler (half a quiche/friand, cup of soup, and salad). Once we (finally) found a clean table--because of course there was no one cleaning off tables in a timely manner despite the fact it was crazy busy--we sat down to realize our salad had no dressing. I go back up to the counter and again have to wait like five minutes just to be noticed. Finally, the original lady emerges. I inform her that my sister and I were eating dry lettuce with cheese sprinkled on it, as she had forgot the dressing. She responds "Oh really? Are you sure about that?". Clearly not the right answer. I just wanted a caesar salad. In addition, the quiche had a poor milk to egg ratio which made them rather soggy, which had been clearly compensated for by baking the crust til it was as hard as a rock. Also, the strawberry jam had a really strange consistency....it was like strawberry syrup. Reason for the 2 stars is nostalgia and free bread. So we wanted to try someplace new for breakfast. Pretty busy for a Sunday morning but we found half a table, which was fine. I ordered a quiche Lorraine and a small Caesar salad. At the counter, the clerk says 'we only have petite and large salads.' After a pause, my husband says, 'a petite is small,' to which the clerk responds, 'so you want a large?' I'm, no, a petite, please. Husband orders the French country breakfast, which they claim comes with eggs any way. Hubby asks if they do poached; 'no, but you can have scrambled. That's the only way.' Ummm okay. Moving on, my food comes at least 10 min before my husband's, and my quiche was bland and barely warm, with a rock hard crust, and my Caesar salad was very watery. His sausages were charred yet cold and his croissant was enormous but also cold and lacking in any butteriness. They also seemed to have run out of knives; three visits over 30 min to the cutlery area and still cane up empty. $31 later, we're full but in no way satisfied. We won't be back. read more

I've read the reviews, but I have to disagree- charming interior, good food (a tad expensive), and endless bread and butter! Good for an hour lunch break with a friend or solo. I wouldn't take a client here to impress them or a date. Came here for lunch recently, at noon on a Wednesday. I wasn't thrilled because I saw the prices online, but went with it anyway. Considering it's self-serve/ cafeteria style, the food did take a little longer than expected (about 15 minutes for 2 sandwiches), but it went by pretty fast with 2 trips to the bread and butter bar. I get why the ratings are what they are-- it's sort of a glorified Panera + the service here can be kind of unpredictable (sometimes they mess up your order). They've gotten my order right every time (so far), so no complaints from me. O R D E R I N G It gets confusing where you're supposed to order because the takeout counter is to the far right and dine-in check out is to the left and during peak hours the lines start to merge together. If you're dining in, let me just tell you: you order at the cash register and they'll give you a table number (on a wooden spoon). Also, as soon as you walk in, there's a small display holding a bunch of foldable menus. Sometimes people mess up and put it back without the inserts, leaving all the inserts in the front, so thumb through them until you find a menu (the people in front of me were really confused). While you're waiting for food, there's a bread bar across from the soda fountain. A bread bar! Soft, chewy, moist and dough-y white bread... it's the best free appetizer. (Wheat is just meh) F O O D Tomato Basil Soup is delish!-- roasted tomatoes, basil and a splash of cream. Reminds me a lot of Safeway brand tomato soup (one of my fav). I got the Turkey Bistro while my friend got the French Dip. Both were really good, but we agreed that Turkey Bistro was better. I have to point out that the baguette that both sandwiches came on was perfect and probably my favorite part of the meal-- the exterior was perfectly crunchy and chewy, not too hard (where it cuts up the roof of your mouth) and the inside was so fluffy. I mean, if the bread was the most memorable thing to me, then obviously the food isn't SPECTACULAR, but I loved it the way I love Panera.. simple and yummy. I honestly don't know what some people are complaining so much about - my family and I have always had a lovely time at la Madeleine. It's not the fanciest French restaurant, but that's what I like about it; it feels less intimidating and homey, and of course, more affordable. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, and I absolutely love the cafe sampler (highly recommended, as you get a nice variety of things to enjoy, from savory pastries to warming soups). I've been to La Madeleine a couple times and the experience was pleasant. I like their crepes a lot. You choose your toppings. Always add gruyere cheese on top!!! It's the best. Their omelettes are solid too. It's a small rather quick service style chain restaurant where you go up to the counter, order and pay, take a number and then they take your food to your table. Their pastries are tasty, coffee is ok too. Idk much about their main courses for lunch, still have yet to try those. read more

La Madeleine earned one star with their service when we placed an order for curbside pick up. When we arrived, we called the number for curbside and let it ring for 10 min. No One Picked UP. So we did it again and No One Picked up. Then I sent the hubby in for the order and he found it on a table labeled "DoorDash". Hmmmm. Good thing DoorDash didn't get there first. So we get home and discover they got part of the order wrong. The bag had a copy of the correct order attached to it and but one of the meals was wrong. The order of Strawberry Chantilly was a actually container of Strawberries and a Croissant. A grouchy old man stands behind the counter and the only thing he mutters under his mask is "What else?" as he throws food on plates and tosses disposable quiche tins to the side. He seems absolutely miserable! This location seems to be hyper-focused on take out orders and will ignore patrons waiting in line while they prep to go orders. I really wish they were a kinder, more attentive group at this location because I enjoy the food but the atmosphere is drab and borderline depressing! It has a fast food dine-in vibe that I do not love! Play some French music! Have the staff come around and ask how your food is! Any personal touch would be an improvement! I would rather spend my money at a place that doesn't make me feel like I am really putting them out by asking for a pre-made entree at a Furr's Cafeteria-like walk up counter! Incredibly impressed with the La Madeleine makeover. The place seems really clean and the furnishings have been replaced and upgraded. The core improvement is the food. The portions are larger and even more delicious. The quiche is larger and tastier, the bacon crispy and the potato galettes are still good. The complimentary bread has been made safer by being packaged and the coffee station is much neatened up. Even the previously good coffee seems even better. All in all a wonderful breakfast. Now they just need to upgrade the restroom and add automatic faucets. read more
