I'm pretty much a sucker for any place with lights hung up. So when my bf and I walked past this place yesterday, I was sucked in, like a moth to a flame. The reviews for this place are so-so, so when a friend of mine texted me later on in the evening to grab a bite to eat, I suggested La Mancha, with a bit of hesitance. When we walked inside, I was a bit shocked at how little people there were. I mean its 8 PM on a Saturday night and we had our pick of seats to sit out. This place is perfect for everything, dates, going out with friends, birthdays, family etc. Its beyond me why it was so low key on a Saturday. Our hostess was so friendly and helpful. She suggested a few of her favorite items on the menu. My friend and I split the beef fajitas for two. My bf got the truck stop enchiladas. We all split a queso with meat. The food was perfection. This place is about 3 miles from my house. Close, but thank God its not closer. If it was close I would probably have to come up with an out of paycheck payment plan. I could probably eat those beef fajitas, with a side of queso, and one of those margaritas every night of my life and die happy. The drinks were great. We tried a few of the sangria swirl, and the Margo 3-2-1. Our server recommended the Margo 3-2-1, and he was definitely right on the money. Our bill came out to $120 for three people, after 20% tip $145. Roughly $48 per person. Considering the cool decor, the excellent service from our hostess and server, the super awesome food/drinks and the fact that we had at least 2 drinks each, I may have had 3, =X, it was a really awesome deal. I would say you could probably take a friend or two out here for a treat and not break too much of a sweat. We didn't even come on a day with specials...so this place gets even cheaper! Very nice! +2 stars for a lovely space - think Tolix chairs meet Tex-Mex. I would probably give another 1/2 star if that were an option, but I can't quite bring myself to bump up my review to 3 stars. Why? The margaritas were fine. Nothing remarkable, but good enough for a $3 happy hour special. The food, however, was underwhelming. I went with the nachos with fajita beef on top. My plate came out with six tortilla chips covered with a super-thick layer of refried beans that made the chips soggy, a smattering of melted cheese, a few pickled jalapenos and carrots, and the blandest fajita meat I've ever tasted. Bland enough that I actually wondered if they forgot to season it. I was bummed that I spent $10 on such a lackluster dish. The server was earnest as can be, but was a bit over-eager with at least TEN offers of more chips and salsa. We said "no thanks" after the second round that we barely touched (because the salsa tasted decidedly different than the previous batch - almost soapy), so it was odd that he kept inquiring, including as we were gathering up our stuff after paying our bill. Overall, I like the signage and space, but hope that La Mancha can work out the menu and service kinks. It has the potential to be a nice addition to the neighborhood, but hasn't quite gotten there yet. read more

Worst meal I've had in a LONG time. It gets one star for the charro beans (boyfriend said they were good) and decor. (And my phone won't let me give less) 1. Our waiter was really nice, no complaints about him. He zoomed in before we even got to look at drink menu to greet us. 2. The queso with seafood.. Where was the seafood? Puréed in? It tasted fishy and over cooked (props to our waiter for taking it off since we tasted it and hated) 3. Shred your cheese. I don't want to eat shredded cheese from a bag. I don't even buy bagged shredded cheese at home. Come on La Mancha... That's lazy. 4. Salsa tastes awful. Like old tomatoes awful. 5. Fajitas should be hot and sizzling. I contemplated asking our poor server to microwave them. 6. Cold chicken and veggies make my yucky bagged cheese not melt. Good thing boyfriend doesn't like sour cream because I smothered each bite with it and used it all for me. 7. Be glad he's not writing this... He says I'm not mean enough. Really... I can make better fajitas blindfolded... Go to Chilis. Or Santa Rita. Or Lupe tortilla (I actually don't even like lupe so saying to go there over this place is something...) Tried this place out in our search for some good Tex Mex. We were so impressed! The queso was simple but so good - probably the best we've had. Food for others in my party of four looked good, but my ceviche was nearly inedible, as way too much jalapeno and ground pepper ruined it. The beauty of ceviche is the flavor of the fish and shrimp, but this was not possible in this case: the heat overwhelmed any possible flavor. For fifteen bucks, it was a total loss. When I pointed out to the waiter that the ceviche was inedible, he was indifferent and said he'd "tell the cook." Disappointing. read more

Was in the area working on a project and decided to stop in to try the food. For starters the menu is quite big and couldn't even decide what to eat. The queso took a min to come out and when it did, it was like concrete. Now on to the fajita plate. Been eating fajita my whole life and can tell right away when it's prepackaged. I don't think it's that I am a mexican food snob, I just think this city doesn't have a lot to offer when it comes to really good Tex Mex and La Mancha is the latest example of that. I love the design and the decor of the place, but as for the food, if you like bland, this is the place to get it. I went for a happy hour with coworkers. To drink I had the Mexican Martini, which was good, not great. It tasted a little watered down which is unfortunate for what's supposed to be a strong drink. We shared a few appetizers between all of us. The Firehouse No. 12 Queso which was pretty good and had a good collection of ingredients. The Americana Nachos with Chicken, the chicken was good, well flavored and tender, but I don't think the pickled jalapenos added anything to it. The Chicken Tavern Tacos, which I did not like anything about. They had some kind of flavor that made the entire thing taste sour and they were incredibly small. And Guacamole, which was nothing special. It's not a completely horrible place, but I just didn't really find anything special about it. This place is solid. I'm surprised it doesn't have more stars. We got the burger and the chile relleno. Chips and salsa were free and excellent. They also had Modelos for $2. Burger was big and full of flavor, if a tad salty. The chile relleno grabbed my attention with the freshness of the bell pepper. Good food, good prices, nice patio, what's not to like? Well, honestly, it could be a little less salty and a little more healthy. It does feel a bit like it'd fit better in Pflugerville. But a stellar value and definitely worth a visit. read more

Stopped in here for a quick lunch between work meetings and La Mancha did not disappoint! From the food to the service, everything was excellent. The chips they serve for the table are probably the best chips I've ever had. Not sure what it was about them, but they were SO addicting! For lunch I had the shrimp bowl that came with plenty of shrimp and fresh veggies and I loved it. The food tasted great and again, the service was fantastic. I wanted to like this place more because it's close to my house, but it's truly meh. We went for Sunday Brunch when pretty much every other place we wanted to go was parked- and booked-up to the point that we didn't want to wait with a 6-month-old. La Mancha was 2/3 empty, which maybe should have been the first sign something was wrong. I got the Stacked Breakfast Enchiladas and nothing was really wrong with them, but they were also just disappointing. The "poblano home fries", which sounded great, were actually worse than most home fries and could have come from a frozen bag. The actual enchiladas and eggs were just too bland to really do anything other than serve as inoffensive calories. My wife got the Huevos Rancheros and they were about the same. Just missing some key flavor or something to help them stand out. Even the queso was bland. I wound up stirring in about 5 tablespoons of the salsa to make it better. In fact, the salsa might have been the best part of the meal. It was actually above average and pretty tasty. read more

Honestly, this place doesn't get enough credit for how good there food is. I've been here a couple times for happy hour but just started eating dinner there recently. Last night we had the most incredible chorizo stuffed jalapeño poppers! Plus the chicken Tinga nachos... wow! The chicken Tinga had SO MUCH FLAVOR! We randomly decided to eat at this place on cinco de mayo as we were headed north out of Austin. The staff and management were so very sweet and treated us to some free apps since the food took a while. We hadn't even complained at that point and we appreciated the fact that they were proactive in taking care of us! The food was good. Place was big and a good crowd for cinco de drinko. I had a beef fajita bowl, which was yummy, and my 3-year-old had a cheeseburger off the kids menu. My husband devoured his chile relleno. Nothing blew my socks off, but nothing was bad. Hit the spot. Met a group for dinner. This is old school Gringo Tex-Mex. Service is great. bar makes drinks worth drinking. The food is appropriately priced. My grandfather would give it 5 stars - a table of 9 got our food 5 minutes after placing the order (think about that). It would get 5 stars in Omaha - not too spicy or exotic (or memorable). I go to La Mancha twice a week on average. I love the daily happy hour and specials. I usually holla at that Mexican Martini and top it off with a sangria Rita. Try the firehouse queso, Chile relleno, and pork carnitas. read more

Saw offer on FB for 2-for-1 fajitas for liking their page. Ok, let's check it out. Location is cute. Modern...love the Door Wall. Nice decor, big space. Our waiter, Eliud, was nice but seemed rushed. Fajitas were amazing but rice and salsa need flavor. Salt! And then....bam! The bill....was wrong. Where's Eliud? MIA. He comes back..."that bill is wrong." DUH! It's $15 more than it should be! Last dinner in Austin before heading back to New Jersey. Monday night is BOGO for fajitas, unfortunately, this specials doesn't include shrimp fajitas. Thus we ordered one shrimp fajitas plate which as it turned out enough for two adults. Strawberry daiquiris and con queso with chips round out the menu. Everyone was satisfied with their order and the wait staff. Would have like to seen something more exotic on the menu. read more

The food was alright, but the service was absolutely terrible. It took around 25 minutes to get a server to our table, and then an additional 35 minutes to be brought a Dr. Pepper that I ordered. We saw our server a total of 3 times the entire visit. It took around 30 minutes after asking for the bill for the bills to come, and then on top of that a forced gratuity of 20% along with an additional 30 minutes to get our cards back. 4 stars but the tortillas where cheap store bought tortillas! I mean the cheap ones!! Laura our server was great, fast and friendly. Our food came out so quickly we didn't believe it was ours! We were seated quickly for a Friday night. Fajitas were good not great; sour cream chicken enchiladas were really good. The rice and beans were above average but not necessarily authentic. Service was really good. We came in the afternoon on a Monday and had the place to ourselves, but we were a large group with 4 young children. Mike handled the chaos like a pro! The food was pretty good too. The shiner came out of the tap cold. The bacon wrapped shrimp were yummy. The bacon was nicely crispy without the shrimp being overcooked. Their food specials are great too and the reason we go frankly. Monday's are their 2 for 1 fajitas. Really, really good. Their patio/deck is nice to eat at when the weather is nice. At some point their deck was pet-friendly but they kinda sorta seemed to have changed their policy, although I still see people with dogs...We brought our dog awhile ago and the server basically said we could stay but that they weren't allowing dogs anymore so not to bring her back. We eat at La Mancha a few times a month and generally enjoy it. Tonight we tried to go for dinner and when we came in they had the entire main dining room rented out for a party. Seems kind of strange to do that and not just close the restaurant for a private party. I ask the host if there is a table for 4 available, she looks around and says no but she can take my number and they'll have a table for me in a few minutes. I am the only person waiting at this point. A four-top gets up to leave and in the meantime another woman enters the restaurant as the manager walks by and tells him she needs a table for 2 tonight. The manager then disregards the fact that we are waiting and tells the host to seat the woman who just walked in. We check in with the host and are told the wait will now be 20-30 min. I visited last night after several years of not eating there. Nothing has changed. The hot sauce served with the chips is terrible....lacking something like taste. It's really nothing more than a little tomato paste with a few spice in a too much water. I ordered shrimp fajitas. The shrimp was overcooked and had no taste. There was just nothing special about this dish at all. Both my wife and I ordered a Mexican Martini. They were watered down and didn't taste like your typical Mexican Martini. I ordered another kind of Mexican Martini that was featured on their menu and it tasted just as bad. I have no ownership take and don't remotely know the owners of El Mercado although if you want a have a whole lot better dining experience and pay less for it, I would recommend eating there. read more
