We went here on Xmas for dinner when our original dinner plan was foiled. This was some of the best middle eastern food I've ever had- and I've had a lot, and been to the Middle East!! We ordered the sampler platter, which is definitely enough for four people. The baba ganoosh (sp?) and meat grape leaves were the best I've ever had; and the dark meat chicken and meat shawarma were also outstanding!! The servers were very friendly and accommodating. I've tried both dining in and takeout, and each experience has been consistently pleasant. The restaurant never seems overly busy, but that might just be because I've visited during quieter times. My usual order includes their salmon, but my absolute favorite is the chicken shawarma. I typically pair it with the rice pilaf and garden salad, and the freshly baked bread that comes with the meal is a great touch. Unfortunately I have to change my review for this location. A friend and I came here yesterday for dinner before going to a show at the Fisher Theater downtown. I usually get their chicken kabob sandwich (tawook). We sat down and nobody came over to take our orders for a long time. My friend and I both got that sandwich and she also got a side of rice. We asked for some water as well, and I asked for the complimentary bread and garlic. The sandwiches arrived before everything, then the bread and garlic (which I prefer as an appetizer). We had to ask again for water, the waiter finally brought it but never brought refills. My husband wanted me to bring him some bread and garlic home, as he loves their food, so I asked the waiter if I had to order both separately or if the garlic came with some bread. He said separately, so I asked for a half-dozen bread to go and an 8 oz garlic. He finally updated our receipt and only put a 2 oz garlic on there. My friend had to bring the receipt up to the counter to get them to change it. We paid our bill and were waiting and finally I went back up to the counter to ask for the bread and garlic, which took another 5 minutes - I don't really understand that unless they were out of bread, and I don't believe they were. This experience was a two-star one for me - the food is always very tasty here, which is why it was not a one-star. However, I have dined in here two other times, and both times were better than this one, albeit with slow waitservice both times, so I am downgrading my review to three stars instead of two stars. Unfortunately I will probably not dine in here again, but I would continue to do takeout. They also have coupons in some of the local coupon books, I had a 15% off coupon to use but unfortunately forgot to use it yesterday. read more

Need to update their time. They closed at 9pm. Said I have an hour on here. We stopped by after dinner to grab a fresh squeezed orange juice with carrot. I was craving it after a salty Chinese meal down the street. A guy parked out front told us they were closed. The lights were all on inside. I was still hopeful that they were open as a yelp time stated they were still open for 56 or so minutes. He told me flatly they were closed and they closed at 9 PM. It was around 9:04 PM when he told me that. Why does their time on here say 10 PM, if they're closed at nine? It would be nice if they changed that for future customers. read more

Had a great meal here last week for lunch. Portions are enormous so easily can share. Pita was served warm with garlic sauce. The hummus with beef was my absolute favorite. Two words... Amazing Flavors! I'm not from the area and last time I wanted Mediterranean we went to a different restaurant located in Ann Arbor but this place was worth the 30 minute drive. First thing I noticed when I arrived to this place was the doors and the decoration, it looks nice. Although our food was carry out and didn't had the experience of eating at this restaurant I strongly recommend it. My friend asked for two orders of lamb chops and when you are a foreigner to this food and culture it's easy to get captivated by the smell only but when I tried them it was an explosion of flavors in my mouth. Rice was gooood as well as hot dolmades (hot grape leaves) I reallly enjoyed a lot the shawarmas! This place is great. There are a lot of fast food shawarma places popping up, but La Marsa has the best value for a delicious chicken shawarma sandwich and crushed lentil soup. The waiter was very nice. He informed me of any up-charges so we could make informed decisions and kept the bread and garlic sauce coming. They are very accommodating for picky eaters who want certain items on the side instead of in the sandwiches. My favorite item is koshary which is a unique Egyptian dish filled with carbs upon carbs upon carbs. If you watch a lot of Food Network or Travel Channel you will see it often. I love it and La Marsa makes a delicious koshary that you won't find at other restaurants. It is a bit pricey but worth it. Some of the other prices and up charges are high, but the restaurant is authentic and delicious. read more

The entire la Marsa chain has been my go-to for years whenever I am craving good middle eastern food. Stand outs here: the chicken tawook, the hummus, the fattoush salad and the yummy warm bread and garlic sauce. However I have noticed at times I'll call for a carry out pickup and the order may not be ready, why I'm not sure. I don't mind waiting a few minutes as this does not happen all the time and the food is tasty but occasionally it does. I have noticed since I've placed a few orders since the pandemic started the order portions have gotten smaller for carry out. The shish tawook sandwiches don't feel as big as they used to and the hummus I picked up today (large) was shallowly filled but not plentiful heaped in the styrofoam container and doesn't feel worth $10.59 to me with tax along with a few warm breads. I'm not sure if this is a consequence of the pandemic that the portions are getting cut down while the price remains the same or jumps up? I probably will order less from here / try to find another place that is tasty but gives me more value for the money. read more

The chicken was dry, stringy and had NO sauce-- Their classic or lemon org-- the rice pilaf was so dry and had no slivered almonds- It was like microwave white rice then dried out and reheated. I really hate to give bad reviews in these times because I try to help out any restaurant that is still in business. However, my lunch experience yesterday was extremely bad. The place was completely empty. I think there may have been one other table when we arrived at about noon on a Saturday. Yet there were two tables filled with empty dirty dishes from previous customers. The staff was just sitting around talking and eating the entire time. Our service was horrible! The food was absolutely terrible! And nobody working there seem ed to care at all. My girlfriend and I asked our waiter turn the music down because it was so loud and there was nobody else in the restaurant. So they turned the music down. And then five minutes later, sat a mother and young child right behind my seat of the booth so the backs of our heads were about 4 inches apart. So I couldn't hear my girlfriend speak because I heard this child and mother behind me talking the entire time. We were the only two tables there so why would they see us right next to each other? It was the most unfriendly atmosphere ever. Almost like they didn't want us to ever want to come back. I will never go back sadly. read more

It was a Sunday evening and we decided to have dinner at La Marsa. The dining area was not full but we had to wait for a table. Ordered Chicken and Beef Shawarma Combo, with Lentil Soup and Salad. The chicken came out very dry. Soup was cold and bland. The salad and dressing was fresh and crisp. Then we got the Shrimp Scampi, which they should change to vegetarian scampi since the dish was more mushrooms than shrimp. It was paired with my choice of potato fries and rice with almonds. Had to season it with salt and pepper to taste. Service was slow. Had to call the attention of the server many times to get a serving spoon, the bread and our bill. There was no cutlery on our table, so my husband had to pick a set from another table. Our server was unaware at first, and then forgot to bring it when we asked. Used a coupon but Still paid about $30-40 for the meal plus tip, without any drinks. My husband likes the food, not for me. read more

The fresh made bread and garlic sauce made this visit a great one!! The service was great, they offered large portions enough for my friend and I to split the grilled chicken dish!! I'm used to a savory soup that goes with the rice and the chicken being a little more flavorful! Overall the food was good, we also ordered fresh fruit and veggie smoothies which were awesome and not too sweet! It has been several years since I had been to the restaurant in Farmington Hills. I recall my meal was very good and looked forward to dinner at the Bloomfield Hills location. We had 2 appetizers that were good. I ordered deboned chicken, white meat. At least half of it was over cooked and inedible. The parts I ate were not very flavorful. Service was horrible, no cream for coffee, my wife ordered the vegetable platter and the ran out of vegetables except carrots so a plate full of carrots , server was clueless how to serve customers never offered water for the table , brought cold bread , never once asked how everything was disappeared for 1/2 hour had to continually go to front counter to get silverware, oil for our dip she brought empty ketchup for the fries , back t ok counter to get pepper. We will never ever go back to that location. Worst part is we were the only customers in the whole place. Some guy was playing on the cash register never once acknowledged us or anyone else, but his buddy walked in and was all about talking with him. There are so many better options for middle eastern food in Michigan than this chain.. the servers are doing nothing in there, they don't write orders down, appetizer came out with our entree, sandwiches were wrong. If you do not have the brain capacity to remember a simple order for two people, then why wouldn't you use a pad and pen to take our orders so you have something to refer to? Sandwiches were greasy and soggy as could be, soup Tasted like it was made 5 days earlier and had a film around it when it arrived. I'm not one to post restaurant reviews. That said I felt I had to give a shout out to La Marsa. They are the best Middle-East restaurant in the Detroit Metro. Never had a bad meal. I've eaten just about everything on their menu. Some of my favorites are... Deboned Chicken, Lamb Kabobs, Beef Shish Kaftas, Chicken and Beef Shawarma. The reason for my review was not because of their great food. It actually is because the way they fixed an order that they messed up. We had a house party and ordered all the food from La Marsa. I wanted it to be delivered yesterday @ 7pm. Sam told me he couldn't because that's when they are the busiest and they were a little short handed. Very understandable, so I had someone that was coming to the party pick up my order on their way to my house. When we opened the trays I noticed there were 2 missing items that I ordered. I called them back, being short handed, I expecting them to want us to leave our guests and make the 20 minute round trip to pick up the items they forgot to give us. That was not the case. As soon as I mentioned what happened, they sent someone to my house. Before I knew it, we had are entire order. Everyone messes up once in awhile. The reason for my review is because they made zero excuses, took what would have been my hardship and made theirs, & delivered the rest of my order in a way that didn't effect my party at all. La Marsa! Very similar to old school La Shish for those of you old enough to remember that franchise. This was my first time coming to this Orchard Lake location, it's right in the mall. I came here with my good friend Connie G and our families. Since we were a pretty large party of 9 we got the Flaming Feast, or at least that's what we thought we were getting.... Unfortunately they ran out of the kebob skewers so it didn't look anything like the picture, which was disappointing. The waitress also did not tell us this when we ordered.. Anyways, the food was fantastic. The chicken and lamb were perfectly cooked and the rice & veggies were a great supplement. For the price though, I'm not sure if you get as much meat as you would have if everyone ordered an individual dinner. I'm also not a big fan of the Shish Kafta for appearance reasons... ha. Not sure I would do the group plates again, I would recommend everyone order individually. Other than that, great service and a fun time. The restaurant itself isn't that big so if you're a large party I would advise making a reservation (which is what we did). We were seated in a large booth which was perfect for 9. Went today for the lunch buffet. Total is $9.53, not including the tip. They have chaffing dishes setup for self service. They only offer the buffet on Mondays. Selection was limited but the food was good. The 1st dish had toom and hummus. The 2nd had fatoush salad. The 3rd had rice with vermicelli noodles. The 4th had chicken schwarma meat, the last had falafel and sautéed vegetables. All it was missing was maybe some kefta, tabouli and a dessert. Bread was fresh and brought to the table.
