My roommates introduced me to this place after hearing my constant bitching about the lack of quality Mexican food out here. I was hesitant because after all, what does a non-West Coaster know about Mexican food?? But, after much persuasion, I caved. Chicken tacos (ON POINT! Pretty authentic!) Horchata (sweet cinnamon goodness) Tamale verde (perfect ratio of filling to cornmeal, great flavor) Chips+sauce (the sauce is not salsa and it's not cheese based and I was mad about both of those things until I tasted it...don't be surprised if the sauce recipe goes missing) Veggie burrito (EPIC! Seriously F*#%!^g EPIC!!!). After that, I immediately apologized to my roommates for ever doubting them and now La Mesita is my speed dial #1. Sorry Mom...but if I ever have to go to the hospital, I want the paramedics and doctors to inform La Mesita that their #1 customer is in need of a taco transplant and nothing else will save me. read more

I have ordered from here on multiple occasions since they deliver to my area. I have ordered a breakfast plate that had rice, beans, chorizo with eggs (and tortillas included) really good and filling. The chicken burrito I ordered one time didn't taste too good to me, maybe cause it was cold. My fault I waited long to eat it. Today I ordered the tacos placeros which brings the 2 tacos which technically counts as 4 tortillas. Anyways really delicious. I also ordered the chicken enchiladas today, by the looks of it rice and beans are included. Will post next time on how they tasted. My orders always arrive on time. Totally great authentic Mexican restaurant! We came here for lunch but had breakfast food, which is awesome that serve breakfast past noon! I had the chilaquiles, which were really good! My friend had the "huevos estilo la mesita" and he said it was amazing! I had a taste of their rice and it was AUTHENTIC Mexican rice! Absolutely amazing!!! Another Seitsema discovery for me. Otherwise I'm not sure I'd venture this far out on the M train, and certainly wouldn't have been able to pick out this particular gem for the series of Mexican restaurants on this block. I was told to order to the pambazo and I can confirm this was a solid recommendation. It's listed under appetizers on the menu, but frankly nearly everything in that section could double as a menu course - there's really no difference. Especially considering that you're able to chomp down a basket of gratis chips (store-bought unfortunately) and salsa (smooth and pleasantly sweet) while the dish is being created. The best thing about the pambazo is how the spice is baked right into the bread, so the flavor isn't concentrated in the middle of the sandwich. Between this, the cemita and the torts I am beginning to wonder if the Mexicans have more variety in sandwich creation than anywhere else. Certainly something to think about on the subway back towards Manhattan. read more

The vegetarian burrito here is SO GOOD. I ordered one from another restaurant in the area was was very disappointed so I only just resumed my search for great burritos in the area. This one wins! I've ordered from here twice online. The first time the service was crazy fast, the second time it took a bit longer but I had ordered right near closing time so I understood. From what I remember, my burrito had spinach, peppers, onions, and a couple other veggies, plus rice and beans. I really like that they melt the cheese on top and provide two salsas and pico de gallo. The best part, GUAC COMES WITH YOUR BURRITO! Guacamole at no extra charge in NYC is pretty unheard of in my experience so I was pleasantly surprised. It's a small portion with three chips but still welcome. My friend who ordered the guacamole side got a gigantic styrofoam cup of guacamole, so that was also worth the $6 or so she paid. I'm really happy with the quality of their burritos (and the value, they're pretty big for $8) and will probably branch out to their other dishes at some point too. read more

We ordered delivery from here and it was fantastic! I got the vegetarian torta and guacamole and both were fantastic, generous portions, and cheap! My boyfriend ordered the tinga burrito and loved it too. One small thing- I ordered the green tamale, which had no description on the online menu, and it turned out to have chicken in it, which I don't eat. I can't speak on how good that was. How has this place stayed so obscure? We randomly stumbled here without the reviews or anything, the shakes on the outsides looked really good so we went in. The hipster in me ordered a kale shake ,which actually tasted really good. After living near La Mesita for almost a year now, I was looking for a well-rated restaurant for Mexican food and decided to give it a try. This was the kind of place that makes you regret trying something new. I had the breaded cutlet Cemita with a side of french fries & a slice of Tres Leches cake. The chicken sandwich was absolutely inedible. I see reviews all of the time on Yelp & Seamless and when people say "inedible" I always just assume it was a picky eater or someone with a little too high of expectations for take-out food, but this was gross - and I am no stranger to gross, greasy late night eats. It was rock hard, cold and when I took a bite of the sandwich, I couldn't bite through the chicken. In addition, the order that claimed to take 40-50 minutes took just under an hour and a half, so by the time the food got there I was so hungry I just took off the chicken and ate a cheese, tomato and lettuce sandwich (I guess the avocado did not make the cut?). I gave them two stars, because they gave me a good portion of french fries, a hearty slice of cake and also I'm really hoping that this was just an off day. But with that said, I'm just going to go elsewhere next time. read more

One of the best Mexican restaurants in Bushwick! I order from here multiple times a week and it's consistently delicious. I'm a vegetarian and the nachos and tacos are AMAZING. I've also gotten burritos, quesadillas, and guacamole and they are all so good. My boyfriend gets their carnitas burrito and chips and salsa every time. I've never had a bad experience with them and I've been getting food here for 2 years. I've never had an issue with delivery. Sometimes they've shown up 30 minutes after I ordered! Seriously, if you are getting delivery expect a 60-90 minute wait ANYWHERE. It doesn't matter if you live next door, they could be getting slammed with orders or down a delivery guy! Food goes out depending on when the order came in and how long it takes to make the food (as well as how busy the place is). I run a restaurant in Manhattan and if I was waiting over 90 minutes for an order I would call the restaurant to make sure they received it/etc. instead of just complaining about it! La Mesita is the BEST. And I recommend it to anyone who wants consistently fantastic Mexican food for a good price in Bushwick. read more

My partner and I had the misfortune of acting on a whim and trying a new mexican spot. It was a terrible. We ordered chilaquiles and it was a slimy mess of cheese chips and yuck yellow sauce. Instead, you should walk 2 minutes over to La Cholula. I suspect the high reviews for this place is bc it attracts a large white clientele who don't know Mexican food. As I sat there looking down at my sad plate I overheard a white woman say, "this place is the best." I knew immediately we needed to leave. My partner and I are Mexican American with families that cook amazing food, so yes, trust us on this. Honestly, no shade, but I don't believe the owner is Mexican (Spanish sounds South American), which is something I pray is true because no Mexican would dare serve this to another compatriot. The red sauce is great and has a real chipotle flavor - I prefer my green sauce mixed with avocado and this sauce is just a mild salsa verde. I am glad I followed the reviews of the other yelpers and chose this one. Delivery time was about 45 mins which wasn't bad at all considering I've waited longer for less quality food -_-. I ordered the spicy chicken burrito($8), 2 shrimp tacos ($4.00 each) ughhh and guac and chips ($6)...it was a bit pricey but they gave huge portions which balanced it out. Everything was very good.
