Came here for the first time. Not from the area I live in west Covina but thought well let me try it everyone says it's good. I order an horchata latte, mollete, and a pastry. The coffee was alright the pastry was good. Well waited over 20 minutes before I had to go ask about my mollete well the girl never made it and forgot I ordered it. Then they wanted to know how much I paid because they failed to give me a receipt. Not a very good impression for my first time. Won't be returning. But since I am in the area I will do a comparison with Tierra Mar. read more

A must try! Their cajeta croissants & rolls are TO DIE FOR. I'm not a fan of cajeta being that little girl who would pick them up after the piñata being hit just so she can trade them off for a sandia lollipop or pelon candy but this place convinced me otherwise. The Monarca has more of a chic feel to it from your typical panaderia. This place is small but very inviting, I am aware of they're 2 locations. The one in Huntington Park and this one in Commerce. Both are pretty nice, but I personally prefer this one. This location is in a more hidden. Which is why I enjoy coming here. Now for the mouth watering pastries: fantastic! I truly enjoy the fact that they offer samples of their pasteles. As of late I have been a fan of their Dulce de Leche cake (gosh I can go for a slice right about now). So perfectly moist, the consistency icing is so light and air-y. The Dulce de Leche aka: cajeta is oh so smooth and rich in flavor. They also bake your typical pan dulce, birotes both white and whole wheat. And they have galleta (Mexican cookies) galore especially the mini oregitas (my favorite as a child). Other than bread and pastries they are also known for their tortas. You can't go wrong with their mole torta. You can also wash everything down with this awesome café. My favorite is their cinnamon iced latte. The staff is very warm and accommodating. All in all, great panaderia. I just wished they had one right around the corner from my house. read more

Oh my God, am a true fan of bread, and this is really good bread. Made freshly everyday. Their conchas, their bolillos, aghh everything taste soooo good. I wish they had more variety of thing to eat, like more breakfast sandwich, or paninis, cause they will rock. Their coffee aghh it doesnt compare to that tasteless coffee from coffee bean and starbucks yuck. This one does have flavor. I like their mocha, iced mocha, their iced guaymas, their iced americano. Their chocolate is one of my boyfriend favorite he said it taste like the chocolate from Mexico. That means its good. Their staff is very friendly. They are really nice. read more

This is a nice bakery to come to every once in a while. The staff is always friendly and helpful, but they seem not to speak a lot of English, which is OK if you speak Spanish. Their pastries and other breads are good and fresh. Their chairs in this bakery are not that comfortable. read more

So we were visiting the family in the area and about to head back to our hotel one night when my mom said she wanted some orejas- LOL my mom is obsessed with them to say the least. I turned to my trusty Yelp and at 845 pm La Monarca was still open- WIN! My sister and I ran in here and loved the french meets mexican type bakery with ice cream too. The girls that worked here were so sweet and friendly and even gave us some samples of their yummy buttery cookies. My mom loved her orejas and La Monarca saved the night. So my mom and I decided to give this place a try because we were looking to buy a cake for a New Years party. At first we didn't really want to go in...lol But the smell of coffee inside the bakery is what definitely grabbed us in. Being the coffee addicts that we are, I tried the coffee and Boy was it good!!! The employee was also nice enough to gives us small samples of different cakes, so choosing was a bit easier. Food is great and coffee is good as well. Clean place. However the management is not very friendly or nice especially to their women employees. My order was interrupted by a male manager to go over some receipts. He could have waited until the girl who was helping was finished. He also expressed his distaste for the two girls who were working. Keep in mind this place just opened so the employees are still working on things which is fine with me but when management points it out and makes it a bigger deal than it is it bothers me. I stopped this morning for the first time at this bakery. Their coffee especially their Vanilla Latte is just PERFECT! Not to sweet and just the right amount of Vanilla flavor. I had a taquito. It was actually a Guava and Cream cheese roll, let me tell you Portos has nothing on this place. Its a lil pricey I had two rolls and a coffee and paid like $5.00 for it, but worth it not something to have everyday tho. read more

I definitely enjoyed the combo of a coffee shop/panederia. Every pan looked super good. From the pictures I decided I'd try the guava with cheese taquito bread roll. Pretty good choice! The hot chocolate from here is amazeballs! Ok, I exaggerated a bit but it's really really tasty. You won't get that nasty hot chocolate from those donut shops that use the Swiss Miss packets and water. Also I recently tried the black bean and corn salad and let me tell you :D it's soooo good lol, so make sure to try it out. I find it quite expensive if you add chicken to it which I believe the lady said $11.99, so just go home and grill a chicken breast and put it in your salad. At least once a week, I've gotta get their dulce de leche croissant and a cup of coffee. I got my co-worker hooked too, so gotta get her the chocolate croissant!!! Although Porto's has better cheese and guava pastries, the dulce de leche croissant is out of this world at La Monarca! Absolutely terrible customer service. Came in here to ESV some quick coffee with my brother and had been standing in line for a few minutes now behind the other people and as soon as my turn came Rocio the lady attending us told me that I was standing on the wrong side of line and attended the other customers. That is very rude and disrespectful. She did not apologize but gave me and brother attitude. read more

Tried this place today. Made the trek to ELA to check out this place. Have to admit, it's a bit sterile....but I'm not complaining, because the place was spotless. Also enjoyed the selection and the size of everything. If you are going for pan dulce, I don't need the grande size. Had a croissant with guava and creme, really nice and not too sweet. Also tried the hojarascas (cinnamon cookies) and the wedding cookies - truly enjoyed both. Tasted the croissant with jamon y queso y jalepeno, very yummy. Coffee del olla was good, but a bit too smooth for my palette...i like a kick to mine java. I will be back! Well worth the trek. Bravo! read more

I love this bakery. I love the staff, the people and I really like that they know me and know my order. The bread is awesome and I have not been dissapointed with their cakes (which we get for staff birthdays). We call our order in and it's ready for pickup. Also, they have the best latin music (pop, rock, etc). I even asked them for a copy of their cd once. read more

The smell here is intoxicating! So good! If you like Mexican bread you'll love it here. A plus, they make everything from scratch, no preservatives or lard used. You can stay there and enjoy your mollete of soy chorizo and frijolitos and cafe Oaxaqueño (highly recommended. They use Mexican chocolate, which you can also substitute if you like in your cafe Guaymas, very good too!) there and enjoy their soundtrack of cool indie/classic spanish music (Often hear Zoé, Nathalia La Fourcade, Julieta, Carlita Morrison, etc.., but not surprised to hear Los Panchos, Juan Gabriel..) playing in the background , or take your warm little conchitas and cafe de olla to go. Chai Tea Latte is my womans favorite drink from there. The conchitas are delicious and I like to have their hot chocolate. Need to try more items to give it a proper description. I placed an order for a tres leches cake. I asked them to write happy birthday on it, upon pick up I saw that they had a clear plastic with the words "happy birthday" hanging off the side. The cashier told me that's how they "write" on the cakes. On top of that the cake was very dry for what's supposed to be a moist type of cake (tres leches). read more

They have these great bollilos stuffed with refried beans, cheese, and soy chorizo that are just amazing. I secretly sneak in here to cheat my diet sometimes :). I was disappointed with this place. Based on the reviews, I thought this place was going to be delightful but that was not the case. As soon as we got there, a bunch of trays were empty so we thought we should wait so that we could get a fresh batch. The pan dulce and the chocolate donuts finally came out so we were excited to start picking. When we got home we had the pan dulce and it was hard as a rock it started falling apart. I am glad I finally tried this place but I will not be coming back. P.s. everything was overly priced. read more
