This monarca used to be my favorite location. *cries in ugly* the quality and quantity has gone down, way down. I used to come here every morning 7 years ago because I lived near by. The people were amazing at making drinks and the bread was so good! Today I came back to get their BOGO, bread, and cookies. The bread section is lacking! And lots of flying bugs inside the bread cabinets. I was shooing bugs left and right. They were standing on the bread too. The price per concha is ridiculous. They didn't have my favorite cookies. I couldn't even buy them in singles, I had to buy the whole packet which is $5.99 for about 5 cookies! Ridiculous! I asked for two blended drinks. As soon as they came out I had to leave. It wasn't until I was far in my car that I noticed a bug in my drink (picture) and my second drink wasn't even blended well, it had a lot of chunky ice. (Picture). I was sad and disappointed. I visit way too many bakeries and that actually is a really good thing. I have been here twice as we did a Dodger run recently that began at the Mariachi Plaza. Location: Right in front of The Mariachi Plaza metro station in that beautiful old building overlooking downtown LA. Right smack overlooking DTLA next to Fernando's giant mural. Parking can be a hit or miss. Pastries/Drinks: 5/5 I love that they have serveral options of the Latino staples. The Conchas are dipped in some type of chocolate they have one that is dipped in a lavender type of confection. The donuts represent the Dodger cause common we are a Dodger town. They have huge menu of drinks from chocolate, mazapan, cafe de olla and even jarritos drink. I personally like the croissants with dulce de leche and the plain mini conchas. The pan de muerto was also good. They usually go with the seasons and have pastries based on this. Ambiance: 5/5 For dia de los muertos they had decorated with an ofrenda and offerings, photos and pan de muerto. The place is always festive and smells like bakery yummy. Service: 5/5 Staff is always friendly and welcoming and have answered questions about the various drinks and pastries. I like this location I have been to the Santa Monica and Hollywood one but the pan dulce was kind of stale for me and the vibe was off. I like this location and will pay them a visit when in the neighborhood. read more

My friend and I made a little jaunt from the Westside to Boyle Heights and landed at Mariachi Square. Walked past the beautiful historic hotel across the street and noticed that this bakery was in a corner space of the hotel. My friend recommended we go in because it is a very highly regarded bakery. And yes, I found out that she was correct. We bought a Guava & Gruyere croissant And it was delicious. You get an aluminum tray and tongs that are located by the display and pick out what delicacies you want and then take them to the register. The people working there were very nice. I tried their chocolate cake and I have to say it is one of the worst cakes I have had. I would not recommend it. The mousse was good, but the cake itself was overwhelmingly DRY. There was no flavor to it, not moist, the only flavor was the light chocolate from the mousse at the top of the cake. read more

I knew very little about La Monarca prior to diving into desserts near DTLA. Cross referencing and seeking out foodie local recommends I ultimately narrow choices down to Delicias in Highland Park, but they close at 3PM daily and La Monarca which has location all over SoCal and is an L.A. gem I'm grateful for. They follow all request to perfection #QualityService and made this three milk moist dense birthday cake my boyfriend will never forget. This chic cute bakery with exception service online, over the phone and I'm sure in-person as well is one that will stay with me. We had the cake delivered to our second/third destination (see pics) and walked our leftovers to our final stop for the night and shared more cake and cookies (including cinnamon) with a few good friends as well as patrons at the club. I got the Breakfast Burrito, it comes with soy chorizo, breakfast potatoes, cheddar cheese & scrambled eggs. Incredible. I'd get it over & over again. There's a salsa that comes with it on the side & I was wish I knew what kind it was (I initially thought habanero) because it was really really good. I also ordered the Oatchata Latte, which was oatmilk, real Mexican cinnamon with a shot of organic Oaxaca reserve coffee. Super duper good. I got the medium, which was around 16oz. That wasn't the only latte I had my eyes on, the Tres Leches almost got ordered!! We got there just in time because the line got long around the time we ordered. I stopped by to try out this place. I always pass by it on my way to my bfs house and I've seen multiple people post about it. I ordered a small iced horchata latte and a mini concha. The concha was super soft and very spongy. I hate when conchas are more and the harder side and taste grainy. The sweet sugar topping on the concha was super good. The latte was tasty, i would have liked it to be a bit more on the creamy side. It was a little on the watery side but never the less very good. read more

Came across this cute little cafe / corner bakery near down town LA. Right across from the mariachi corner. So glad I decided to drop in and try it. You know I'm big on customer service and this place does not disappoint! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with smiles, and such warmth from all the employees. I have been coming to this Monarca bakery location since it opened. When I tell you that their bread, cookies and coffee are consistently awesome, I'm not doing it justice. From the cashier, to the barista to the manager, everyone is always super friendly and attentive. If there is something not in stock they let you know when they will have more and always offer delicious alternatives. I like coming here, not only for the great products, but the customer service is unmatched. The location is always clean and there's always a revolving door of friendly clients that are enjoying the food. The soft music playing in the background most of the time, is also a plus. read more

Website says though to call days in advance - so best to do that especially for bigger orders. They say the to go carafes / travellers are for up to 12 but we found it stretched to 20 using the small cups they provide. Definitely ask for more cups when you pick up. They have many diff milk options for the sides. The refreshments gave folks LIFE at an early morning event. Definitely now a go to. read more

I said it's ok it's is too late to make 3 miscommunication on my part ( I'm barely whispering ) the cashier told another lady to do another one and she rolled her eyes . Finally made it in! My mom and I were craving an iced cafe de olla and decided to stop by. They have a wonderful variety of pan dulce and other pastries. They also sell packaged coffee to enjoy at home! I've had their cafe de olla before both hot and iced and it's always been delicious. This time it wasn't as good and I don't understand why it was so complicated to order. We saw they offer it blended and wanted ti try it but were told because of the ice and preparation it loses flavor and doesn't have all the ingredients a traditional cafe de olla has. The barista recommended over ice so that's what we got. She asked if we wanted milk and sweetener. I asked for one with milk and the other without but both sweetened. However what we were given were both coffees having milk and neither having sweetener. I don't mind the milk but definitely wanted the sweet flavor that a typical cafe de olla has. When I asked the barista she said the iced cafe de olla isn't normally sweetened....even though A) I've had it pre-sweetened before and B) she even asked me if I wanted it and I said yes. Sad to say the coffee was weak. Will still be back but maybe just stick to the hot cafe de olla. Overall the baristas were nice. And the coffee shop was clean and had seating both indoors and outdoors. Huge negative is that there is absolutely NO PARKING.
