While in South Pasadena visiting family for my wife's birthday, we were advised to visit La Monorca . It was a great suggestion and were pleasantly impressed with the quality and taste of the cake. It was one of the best cakes we have had !!!! The staff are amazing, friendly and helpful in picking out options.

Highly recommend this place if you are looking and trying something new to eat! First time in this place and my mouth was already watering when I was scrolling through their online website. Just looking at the food already made me hungry for some delicious baked goods. I tried their Horchata Lavender Concha, it had some sweet and tasty sugary glaze on top and it gave me tears of JOY just eating it. I also tried their Chocolate Croissant and that's usually my Go To at any bakery place. It was delicious and soft and smooth like butter when you take that first bite into it. The service was great! I came in the morning by like 10:00am and the girl behind the counter was very sweet and welcoming to all customers as they first enter through the Bakery and once they leave. Ambiance was cute on the inside and the bakery sits right by the train station which made the ambiance and environment quite welcoming and beautiful. This place is definitely worth the place to try. And I will definitely come back here when I get the chance.

This is a cute Mexican bakery and coffee shop. We really enjoyed the conchas. The coffee drinks were a little hit and miss. We tried a selection of five of the smaller conchas, which aren't that small at all. You serve yourself like at a normal Mexican bakery and bring your selections to the counter. There are many different flavors to choose from, like churro, wedding cake, champurrado, etc. My favorite was the champurrado, by far. But they were all very fresh and delicious. We also tried a few of the coffee drinks. I went with the iced cafe de olla, something I have only had hot before. It was good but not as flavorful as I had hoped. The other drinks we tried were good but not amazing. The counter fellow was as friendly as could be. There is seating inside and out. They only have street parking which can get a little tight in this area but I have never had a problem. By the way, if you are a movie buff, the Michael Myers house from Halloween is almost literally across the street. Come here for excellent Mexican pan dulces.

Cute place with good coffee and friendly service. Didn't try the pastries. I will have to do a return visit for that. I will note that you need to COUNT YOUR CHANGE! The poor cashier couldn't do the math without the assistance of the register. She kept giving me $1.25 change from a $10 bill. My total was $5.75. She finally realized that she was entering something wrong and the register finally gave her the correct amount to give me back.

Stopped by for some pastries and a 3leches bday cake. The pastries were good the cake was just ok and a bit dry. Friendly and quick customer service and cute Dia de Muertos decorations. Street parking available, clean restrooms, and a small simple indoor seating area.

There's limited parking and the street parking down narrow roads. The interior is nice looking and cleans. You enter to immediately seeing the bread and pastries. The staff are really nice and friendly. They have loads of prepackaged concha selections. I'm quite tempted to buy the large selection! I got a few concha a la carte. The Oaxaca concha and lavender. They were tasty and sweet. Not too sweet considering the extra toppings. They were enough for a quick breakfast snack. I also got the Oaxaca cafe. It was very hot so let it sit for a bit. It was quite tasty though. It was rich with chocolate and has the right amount of sweetness. I really want to return to try out more!

Got a 12 pack of conchas and iced coffee to go. Ordering online was so easy. I wanted to get more items honestly. It was all soo good! Everything was very fresh. The iced coffee I got was a great addition for my breakfast concha. I can't wait to go back again and try other items!

Came to this Monarca thanks to my new elite friend Nikki B who wrote an awesome review. This place was all Niki raved about and then some. Their coffee options are many, varied and delicious. I had the tres leches latte- iced - as recommended by Erika. The service was amazing!!! Erika greeted us with a great smile & a cookie, inviting us to try their new flavor- the polvorón cookie which had a taste of cinnamon- It was delicious!!!

i love to stroll in here when i'm biking around south pasadena. it's right next to the station which makes it super convenient. carbs for the ride, just what i needed. the burritos are good for when you're hungrier, they have a few flavors. i wasn't super hungry but wanted a snack, so i got the bread with the beans and cheese on top. and a lil salsa came with it too. and i got a mini concha too. really hit the spot, split it with my friend. the service is very friendly and prompt here. ambiance is giving neighborhood cafe on a literal street corner. so cute. love it!

We love La Monarca! This was my first time at the South Pasadena location and the staff and service were incredible. We came back in October and had some seasonal items that were delicious. The churro concha was so flavorful and light and it paired well with blended Mexican chocolate. They have several locations, so check them out!

Came by this spot for a quick bite and matcha before a date night. The bakery is located at the corner of Mission Rd. Just across from the gold line station. There is street parking available where you can find it. The staff were nice and the place was empty on a Tuesday night. All of their menu items are Latin influenced flavors like conchas, tres leches, and horchata combined with espressos or made into pastries and cakes. The front area is self serve for the small baked breads with trays and tongs. We did see a couple of flies inside the displays but it's not unusual for bakeries. I got the new menu item the matcha horchata. It was sweet but very powdery tasting and mostly cinnamon flavor not really any matcha came through. The decor is cute and on brand and everything seemed pretty clean. I really would give it 3.5 but I rounded up.

We were going to be there a bit before 11:00AM originally on Sunday since their website said 11:00AM, but Yelp said 10:00AM was when they opened. So my husband called on Sunday to check and they did indeed opened at 10:00AM. When we got there, there were already three sets of groups seated and they had to rearrange some tables for us since our party was nine people, which only took a couple of minutes to arrange. We were served complimentary chips and salsa as well as water as we waited for the rest of our party to arrive. I had quickly chosen my dish cause I'm a sucker for mole and there were only two options that had it, so I ended up getting the enchiladas de mole. The servers were great and the food was as pretty good too. I ended up taking leftovers home since I had eaten too much chips and dip before my actual food came cause the server refilled our chips on our end of the table like four times. The mole was pretty good and I wish there was more of it and didn't really enjoy that there was veggies inside the enchiladas since I think I was expecting more chicken than veggies inside. Not a big fan of beans, but they were pretty good with the melted cheese on top and the rice was good too. I definitely loved the decor they had and the designs painted on the walls because they eee so pretty and provided good photo op backgrounds.

Great little beer spot in old town Pasadena…read more We arrived around 6pm on a Saturday and the place was packed, but we were able to find 2 seats at a communal picnic table inside. Small joint but they have a few bar seats and picnic tables inside and a nice outdoor patio with more seating. They don't offer food but usually have a food truck outside. There is no food service at this location but they seem to partner with a couple food trucks serving tacos. Some inside open air seating but the main draw is the relaxing patio. I liked their hard seltzers with fun flavors as jicama, tamarindo and passionfruit. I didn't like so much their signature Yerba Mate Pale Ale, but thought it was an interesting concept. The happy hour special is Monday all day and Tuesday-Friday open until 6pm $2 off full pours. Very family friendly, I always see a couple tables with children and dogs at them. Maybe I'm getting to be an old fuddy duddy but I hate when parents let their kids go free range. Screaming and running around like the establishment is a park these kids becoming trip hazards. There needs to be a revamp of their board game collection. There three boxes of games that looked incomplete or used up, not good with such games as Scrabble and Pictionary. After visiting the Huntington Library in the grueling heat and hordes of people, looked for somewhere closeby to eat on co-pilot, and was suggested this place with a patio which was one of my requirements. Arrived and parked on the street on a Sunday which is free, and could not find the place it's kind of tucked away. After walking up a block found the charming little passage way with some patio seating. It seems like it's a family-owned and operated restaurant as always a great indicator of things to come is the complimentary chips and salsa. They were perfectly thin crispy non-salty and warm, paired with a nice salsa that seems house made but was a little too tomato/ketchupy but by no means bad. I had crispy taco with shredded beef and chili relleno combo. It was pretty good. ($21 )I enjoyed the rice and beans and it was a filling portion. Wife and mother-in-law split a carne asada plate the meat was flavorful and tender ($30) came with the cheese enchilada was also very enjoyable. They have a really large patio so it's hard to fill but people kept coming in and out so the locals know something. It looks like it is a hole in the hall kind of place, but it is massively popular with a lot of foot traffic. It must have been spread by word of mouth and for good reason. Service: they are very very quick with making the food. You order outside and pick up inside. Ambiance: there is plenty of space for parking as well as the restaurant itself. Lots of seating inside and some outside as well. They have a bar for you to get sides, utensils, and Togo stuff. Food: they are famous for their breakfast burritos, I ended up getting a burrito two ways with bacon and sausage. It was HUGE! It was bigger than my forearm and the food was so so good. The sausage was whole and juicy, the bacon was crispy and not burnt, the eggs were moist and flavorful, and the tortilla was warmed on the grill. The portions are MASSIVE the burrito can definitely be shared between two people. It ended up being $14 but with it shared between two people that comes out to be $7 per person so very affordable. Overall, this place is very good if you're in the mood for a breakfast burrito. The quality is fantastic and the price is amazing.

This is a burger joint with a diverse menu, including one of the biggest breakfast burritos in town. I got my burrito with bacon. The burrito comes with hashbrown style potatoes, eggs and cheese - you get a choice of ham, bacon or sausage for your meat (or have it without meat). The bacon was crispy and remained crispy when I reheated my other half. Not only is the bacon crispy, the burrito has a generous amount of it! Oh and the other plus - the tortilla does not come wet and soggy and remains in perfect condition if you have leftovers. The burrito comes with only one salsa and to be honest, you really do need two for such a big burrito. I'm a green salsa girl but I asked what I should go with and I was recommended the red one (the green one is supposedly spicier). The red salsa did not disappoint other than I needed one more for my whole burrito (there's no kick to this salsa but it's tasty). The burrito itself isn't bursting with flavor on its own and it requires the salsa to compliment the other ingredients. But, who eats a breakfast burrito without salsa? There is ample parking in their parking lot and there's seating both inside and outside. I will definitely be returning to satisfy my breakfast burrito craving very soon and if this is what you're looking for - stop reading reviews and go get you one at Lucky Boy (it's served all day).
